32 Gb (Model MB533LL) iOS 4.2.1

Hello,
Can anyone tell me what generation is my iPod Touch by the model number - 32 Gb (Model MB533LL) iOS 4.2.1, Serial Number 9C929B13208, Version 4.2.1? The reason why I need to know is because I'm trying to find out how to delete TV Shows, Music and some other items trough iTunes. If I can do it on the iPod itself, I would appreciate any and all help to assist me in this matter.
Lastly, is there any way for me to wipe my iPod and start fresh like it was never used? I'm not looking to sell it, I just want to have the bare necessities so that I can put the most amount of music on it for my mother to listen to. She has no CD player, and she's in her 70s. I just want something easy for her to listen to her songs while reading in bed.
Thank You.
David

It is a 2G, it can go as high as iOS 4.2.1
To erase, go to Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and settings. It can take hours. Make sure it is connected ti a charging source during the erase.
Y can also connect to computer and restore as new via:

how do upgrade my ipad apple model MB293b7 iOS 5.1.1 to iOS 7?

You can't; that's a first generation iPad, which can't be updated past 5.1.1.

    Craig,
Your analogy is excellent! Perfectly captures the opinion I have heard from many. The reason that I have encouraged you to update is because really I, personally, have never experienced an issue with an update, and neither has my signifiant other. Call us lucky! I will not lie to you and say that that means that all updates are going to flawless -- far from it. Many people, as you described, find themselves in the exact situation described by your analogy, and they take to the internet to describe and outline these problems. It is unfortunate that iOS 8 has been such a buggy release for so many, and disheartening that Apple has not yet found a solution for some of these major bugs.
I do ask you to remember though that most of what you find when looking for opinions on iOS 8 will be people having problems with their device -- those whose update went through perfectly have no reason to question it, and thus it can make it seem like everyone writing on iOS 8 is having a problem. There is most definitely a large amount of people with problems after the update, but most likely an equally large amount of people who did not have problems and simply didn't post about it.
My significant other is not a heavy user. She uses her phone an average amount, but she most definitely does not rely on it as much as you have outlined above. I do not want to deceive you into thinking that just because she had no problems that means that you will not encounter any either. To answer your question, she updated about a week after each release of iOS 8 (iOS 8.1, iOS 8.1.2, etc.)
I also do not want you to think that I am a completely neutral party either. I am a fan of Apple, I will admit to that, but trust that I try to speak from as unbiased a position as I possibly can.
As far as your concerns with Apple go, I hear you. Many people would agree with you. Apple markets itself with the concept of flawlessly functioning devices, and that means that for some, when issues do occur, it is even more than just a bug because they bought the device on the promise of it flawlessly functioning. Yes, the functioning factor is part of the reason behind the higher prices of Apple products, but remember you also get a one year hardware warranty and over the phone assistance, access to the Apple Store and Genius Bar (both of which have excellent customer service, a fact that is widely agreed upon), as well as features such as iCloud storage. Widespread bugs like the ones that have occurred with iOS 8 are uncharacteristic of Apple, but in the end they will make mistakes, it is how they fix them that characterizes the company.
From everything that you have stated, here is my solution for you: If your phone works right now, it works. It will continue to work if you do not update, that is guaranteed. What is not guaranteed is that if you update, the phone will function even better. Both you and I are aware that iOS 8 has caused just as many issues as it has resolved -- updating here is a gamble, if you rely on your phone as much as I am thinking you do, it is probably better to take the safer route that guarantees the phone will work. Keep in mind, iOS 8.2 is right around the corner. More bug fixes may be introduced, and that may be a better time to update.
You bring up some excellent points. In the end, this decision is all up to you. I'm just a guy on the internet with some strong opinions!
    Nick.

You have to connect the iPad to your computer to update.
If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.1.3. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).
Tip 2 - If you're updating via wifi, place your iPad close to your router to preclude getting a corrupted download.

anybody having trouble with their Apple iPad Model A1219 ios ver. 5.1.1 freezing up?

  • Upgrade new iPad 2 models to iOS 5

I have several cases of new iPad 2 models with iOS 4.  Anyway to upgrade these to iOS 5 before activation?  I was hoping to distribute them already updated.

Are you talking about locking it to a carrier? Was your iPad originally sold as locked to a particular carrier? Very few ever were. The vast majority of iPads have been sold unlocked. If it was never locked, it won't lock when you upgrade it. If it was sold as locked and you had it unlocked by someone other than the carrier to whom it was locked, yes, it may lock when you upgrade. Contact the original carrier.

  • Minimum hardware models for iOS

As you can tell by the question I am a beginner in the Cisco universe.
Being in the process of becoming a CCENT and supporting SMBs... does the Cisco SMB line of products support iOS / the CLI? And if no, what is the minumum hardware series / models that I need to work with iOS / the CLI.
    Thank you
    Stephan

As a noob to Cisco I started a thread here about setting up a very cheap 831 router. That was not a good experience. For a home network a responder in my OP recommended starting with at least 851 or 871.  But for my part, I'm not interested to be a Cisco admin, so maybe you'd like the challenge of a cheap 831!

  • HT4437 AirPlay icon is not avilable in iPad Mini Model A1454 iOS 7.1.1.. Any recommendation?

I cannot find, it is not available , the icon for AirPlay in my iPad Mini Model A1454, with iOS 7.1.1
I have followed all the instructions in Apple web site without any result, can somebody help me to resolve this problem or understand what is wrong?
    Thanks  lot
    Mario

it is there, but will only show up if it sees another airplay device active on the same wifi network, using the same apple id, and airplay / home sharing is turned on   on all the devices.
If it is not showing up (best place to see it is in control center - (swipe up)), the there is something amiss with the network sign ins.
reboot everything, including the router.  recheck the settings on everything, and make sure home sharing is tuened on  on the pc/Mac

  • IPad 2 - Model: A1396 iOS 6.1 Wi-Fi not working

    Hi,
Since updating to iOS 6.1 my iPad 2 wont connect to our Netgear DG834Gv4 Router.
I have tried turning encryption on / off and changing channels but nothing matters.
Of course the Router works great for every other device including an iPad 3 on iOS 6.1.
The router is on firmware V5.01.01 and I am considering an update to v5.01.16 but I would prefer to not have to.
I have tried turning it off, I have tried forget this network, I have tried a Restore in iTunes, nothing has made a change.
When I tap on the Connection the spinning loading icon just sits there indefinately.
Its at work, so I really need this to work with our Router for iPad Development.
    The device is:
    iPad 2 (GSM model) 2011 16GB
    Model Number: A1396

    Hi,
    I did a blank restore.
I have tried no encrpytion, WPA1-PSK and WPA2-PSK, none of them work.
Its clearly the new iOS 6.1 update.
I have seen other people have been having problems with netgears, some people have had to downgrade their router firmware.
I will try updating the router firmware this afternoon but yeah, its a bit of a nightmare.
Has anyone else experienced any problems with WiFi and iOS 6.1 on iPads?

That definitely sounds frustrating! I understand that you are prompted for a passcode on your iPad. If you have forgotten this passcode or are unaware of what it may be, you can use the steps in the following resource to reset it:

    I have a 2nd Generation iPod Touch (model MB533LL) running iOS 3.1.2.
Is it possible to upgrade it to 3.1.3? There is one app that i want to run which requires 3.1.3.
I found some firmware for 3.1.3 online, but when I try to install it I get an iTunes Restore Error 3194.
    Thanks.

Interesting. I am definitely upgrading from 3.1.2 to 3.1.3.
