32 seconds of SD video takes 15 minutes to process...and only 35 mins left!

I am really getting worried about the power of my brand new MacBook Pro.
We already know that my brand new $2000 machine can't handle editing 720p video, and now I am trying to perform an image stabilization on 32 seconds of 640 x 480 video. Its been about 15 to 20 mins now and the estimated time reaming is 35 mins. Almost an hour to process under a minute of video? Whats the problem?!?!?!

I think I figured it out....
It wasn't stabilizing just the 32 seconds that was selected, it processes the WHOLE video file, which was several minutes long.
So for example, if you have a 2 minute video clip, but only kept the first 30 seconds, and the last 30 seconds, if you stabilized the fist 30 seconds, the last 30 seconds is also stabilized because it is from the same movie file.

I was making a movie on iMovie, and was trying to use the green screen to make a split screen. I pressed on the green screen button, but the second clip didn't play next to the first, and only the audio played. I tried again with some different clips and some worked and some didn't. This hasn't happened before. What should I do? (I am using iMovie '09)

  • Firefox 4.0 takes 5 minutes to open and another 5 minutes to close. Internet explorer takes a few seconds on same laptop. WHY???

To open and close Firefox 4.0 takes 5 minutes. Internet Explorer on the same system takes only a few seconds. Can you tell me why the major difference in time?

You probably have not seen anyone reporting the exact same problem as you. All three crash reports have the same crash signature and as currently ranked 67 it is not the commonest of reasons for a crash.
I hope you enter your email contact information when reporting crashes. I note you see this crash when using videos, others may possibly see this crash in other circumstances.
You have already tried the obvious, attempts at a fix so it is now down to wait and see, maybe developers working on the bug will report something or fix it.
Did you try my suggestion of installing portable ESR ?

  • Should it take 40 minutes to render and transcode a 3 min video?

I was using FCE on a 2009 unibody MacBook Pro.  It was starting to drive me crazy, so I stepped up to the plate and bought a new Quad Core 2011 MBP and FCPX.  I'm editing 1080P from a Canon 60D and my typical video is about 3 minutes with several transitions and a graphic overlay.  I'm typically saving the video locally using compressor's pre-configured YouTube 720P format.
Doing this seems to bring my machine to its knees for about 40 minutes to render and transcode the 3 minute video.  All my other programs become somewhat unresponsive.  Is this what I should be expecting, or is my computer having issues?  I was hoping my shiny new $2300 machine was going to eliminate this problem, but it doesn't appear so.  I've seen people mention that Qmaster isn't worth it for short videos, but if it's taking 40 minutes, I'm wondering if clustering is needed, or my computer has problems.
    Thanks!

Well.. i'm using a 2009 unibody macbook pro and have no issues whatsoever. So lets try and see what your doing wrong.
When you say "I'm typically saving the video locally using compressor's pre-configured YouTube 720P format" do you mean you are importing the files from the camera and then converting them to this format before working with them in Final Cut?
Unless i'm mistaken, "YouTube format" seems to be .MP4 H264 codec. For working in Final Cut, that is a BIG no no, and might explain why your machines take forever. Final Cut likes ProRes 422. You can import and transcode to ProRes right in FCP in the Log and Transfer Window.
Or save the raw files onto your computer and use MPEG Streamclip to convert them to ProRes.
It is very important to do some research and figure out the best workflow for a particular NLE, before going out and spilling another 1.7k for something that still gives you trouble because of something you are overlooking.

  • Why do you tube videos take so long to load and once they do they will only play for a few seconds before quitting ?

after a you tube video finally loads it will play for a few seconds then quit. after a few minutes it will resume play for a few seconds then quit and resumes the process

    download it, then play offline

  • Yosemite installed on iMac purchased with Mavericks now takes 2 minutes to boot and give the login screen.

Downloaded and installed os x yosemite on iMac that was purchased originally with Mavericks. When power button is pressed I get start up audio tone and then the the black screen with the white apple symbol with the progression bar. The bar moves very slowly two about one third and then the mouse cursor appears and there it stalls for around two minutes. After the wait the login screen appears and it operates normally. This whole process before update would only take maybe 30 seconds.
If I try the web recovery process it will revert back to Mavericks any suggestions on what this might be. I do have an external Mac passport pro external drive that does have time machine enabled and has been there for months.
    Thanks

After spending a number of hours with Apple Care personnel I was connected with a supervisor and finally got the iMac to boot up on every attempt and in a reasonable amount of time. Login screen now comes on in 30 to 40 seconds and computer is usable within a total time of 1 minute to 1minute 30 seconds.
Here was the process. Tried to download whole operating system with reinstall from utilities menu at power on and at 7 hours progress bar stalled at one third the way. Reason, time machine external hard drive was still connected during process. Disconnected all external connections except power and tried download again. This time whole operating system downloaded in 15 to 20 minutes. Yosemite installed and rebooted automatically and booted to login screen, signed in then to desktop, but boot took around five minutes. Shutdown and connected all peripherals, i.e.. ext. HD, DVD, printers and tried to start. iMac stalled at 2 minutes into progression bar with white apple symbol before login screen. Removed peripherals and tried again and still stalled and would not boot.
What was done to correct is as follows. Started iMac in Safe Mode, cleared all items in cache from Macintosh HD/Library folder and System /Library folder, system start up items, launch agents, and launch daemons contents cleared, removed printers in system preferences, ran disk utilities verify and repair of disk and disk permissions. Shutdown and removed power from iMac. With no peripherals system then booted normally. Reconnected peripherals while iMac was still on and added printers back to system preferences and all is well.
So it seems only reasonable that the downloading problem was hindered by the time machine external hard drive, to which an Apple rep. agreed and the extremely slow boot up or stalled boot up was caused by items in the start up and launch folders. I will state here that I was using my ISP's anti virus software for the Mac which was in the launch folders and most likely was causing the boot up problems.

  • [Sound Blaster ZX]Control Panel takes 6 MINUTES to load and is nearly unusable?!

    All,
Yesterday I took the plunge and picked up a Sound Blaster ZX to replace my old Audigy Platinum. Unfortunately I've been met with a series of problems that leave me with a bad taste in my mouth about my purchase.
The driver install seemed to go well though it was a little disconcerting when the 'Check for update' button in the auto update tool that runs right after install was grayed out. I noticed that I was not getting sound out of the 5.1 analog inputs that I had connected up to my Logitech Z680 speaker system. So I checked the system tray and there was a new SB icon there, that was clearly a utility to get to the configuration. Knowing this was probably the right place to start fiddling with the settings, I clicked it. And waited. And waited. And waited some more.
Strange I thought, so I checked the Windows task manager and located the Sound Blaster control panel in the list of running processes. I waited another minute or so and still nothing was displaying. So I killed the process in task manager, located the shortcut to the SB ZX control panel in the start menu and launched it. Again with the waiting. I immediately took to google and started researching a potential problem with this card.
As I was searching and had forgotten that I had launched the Control Panel, it suddenly showed up on my screen. Wow I thought, that took a while to load. I then proceeded to try to navigate the various areas of the Control Panel application. I was immediately concerned when I noticed that the app was not responsive and appeared to be frozen. I decided to patiently wait to see if it would wake up. Fortunately it did, though only after waiting for several minutes. I then attempted to close the Control Panel app, which it did after several more minutes of waiting.
I thought maybe there was some anomalous process running so I decided to try the Control Panel from a fresh boot. After my machine had started up, I clicked the SB icon in the system tray again, only this time I was going to time it. I recorded that it took 6 FULL MINUTES from the time I clicked the icon until the application displayed on my screen. Further, the lag of switching between the various areas of the application was as high as 3-4 minutes. In essence this software is completely unusable.
I decided to try the TOSLINK connections between my speaker system and the soundcard to see if it would respond better. I set the mixer settings(via the built in Windows mixer) and I could get it to produce sound albiet only in two channel stereo. Progress, or so I thought. So I switched back to the analog connections and there was no difference in the response of the control panel. I had found some instances where an onboard or video card based HDMI audio driver might interfere with the card. I had long since disabled the on board sound of my Asus P5Q Pro motherboard via the BIOS so there were no drivers hanging around from it. I then took a look at the device manager and disabled the ATI High Defintion Audio device that was likely part of my SAPPHIRE 100259-1GL Radeon HD 4870 video card. This had no effect, I was still getting no sound from my speakers and the interface is abysmally lagged.
I then took the following steps to no avail:
Uninstall all Soundblaster ZX drivers and software
    Restart machine
Install the updated Soundblaster ZX software from the Creative Support site: http://support.creative.com/Products...T=CategoryID:1
Nothing I have tried has resolved the issue with the virtually unusable lag that occurs when trying to run the Control Panel and/or configure the Soundblaster ZX or the amount of time it takes to start up.
Anyone experienced this and know of a fix or a remedy? I really want to enjoy this sound card.
    **UPDATE**
I just wanted to post up and say that I solved this issue by first uninstalling all drivers for both the SB ZX and my Radeon graphics card. I then used Driver Fusion(http://treexy.com/products/driver-fusion) to perform a registry/file cleanup on all files associated with AMD graphics cards and Creative sound cards. Then I installed the drivers & software for the SB ZX from the CD that came in the box. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the software was responsive and the hardware was fully functioning. I then installed the software for my Radeon card however this time, I selected a custom install and chose NOT to install the HDMI audio driver. I don't know if this was key or not but at any rate, after the graphics card drivers and software was installed I am happy to report that the SB ZX software remained responsive and fully functioning.
I then updated the SB ZX software to the version linked above(1.0.22) from the version that ships on the CD - 1.0.13 and strangely the Cinematic tab disappeared from the Pro Studio control panel. Some research revealed that this tab is dependent on the Creative Labs Extras which seemed to have gotten nuked during the update. I was able to bring back the Cinematic tab by re-installing the extras from the CD, however it only installed the Dolby Digital Live component. DTS connect is still missing. I am going to do a little more research to see what I can do to get it back.
Hope this helps someone who runs into this same predicament.

Any news about the SoundBlaster Zx Linux drivers? Currently, there's no way to get even the most basic sound of it on Linux.

  • I imported 30 minutes of DV tape and it takes 90 minutes to process it?

I imported 30 minutes of video from a DV tape, and it has been processing it for 70 minutes so far and it says it has 40 minutes to go?  Is this right?

DV should import in real time.
HDV would take longer than real time, because the MPEG2 of HDV is converted to Apple Intermediate Codec.
After the import, there would be a time of generating thumbnails, this might take a few minutes.
If you have the preference to analyze for image stabilization turned on, then this process will begin after the thumbnails are created. This process can be lengthy.
I would suggest that you open the Activity Monitor. Select the iMovie process and then click the Inspect button.
Look to see if there are any recent hangs. If this number is zero, you are probably OK. It is just analyzing for stabilization.  If there is a positive number in "recent hangs", it may mean that you are in a loop and might want to force quit iMovie and try again.

  • Video takes 3 sec to process

So I have the 4th gen iPod touch and updated everything. For some reason I noticed that recently (1 week ago) my iPod was much slower. The video would load but if I pressed pause, the pause/play button would have a "white glow" on it like I was pressing on it. Then it takes about 3 secs to process it. If I press "done" on the top left corner, it would take also a couple seconds to process it. When I am on the home screen and I press the video app (with no other app running in the background), it takes a couple second to load and also the scrolling is not smooth.
I tried restoring it to the latest software last night and it is still acting like this. I have 11GB free on my 30GB touch so the amount of videos on the ipod doesn't matter.
also a minor problem...sometimes my music albums would be displayed as scenes from a music video or something....how do i fix that?

I have the exact same problem, I load videos from my personal trainer Dr K and have been for weeks now, they used to be fine (I convert them to MPV4 using Quick time to avoid any incompatibility issues)since the update the videos take time to close and sometimes my videos will crash back to the home screen.
This is really annoying as I have demonstrations on these videos so look at them many times and switch between the various exercises cooling down more than I would like while I await confirmation from the video my form is correct.
I have restored my ipod and that did not work, so don't bother doing that, you have to set up all your email again etc etc. The music videos I have purchased through Itunes are all fine, so it looks like this update is causing problems when Itunes cannot verify the source of the video file it takes longer to load.
Apple can you please fix this problem.

iMac will not start following OS X 10.9.4 update - takes 30 minutes to load with spinning wheel and progress bar and then when it appears to be finished it powers off?

  • You tube and other videos take forever or keep starting and stoping

youtube and other online videos take forever to open or keep starting and stopping

First thing to check is your actual download speed. Services, especially cable internet providers, say their top speed is "up to" some value. Cable internet is a shared resource so, should someone on your node be hosting online games or hosting a file sharing site from their computer, they are robbing you of bandwidth.
    Try this speed tester:
    http://speedtest.net/
and compare the results to what your ISP says you can get at max. Also try the test at different times of the day.
If the test shows you are consistently getting only a fraction of what the top-rated speed should be, contact your provider. They can see if there is a problem in your area. Old cable, oxidized connectors, and neighbors hogging the resource are things they can address.

A minute or so later the "Bookmarks and History system will not be functional because one of the files is being used by another application" message appears and Firefox either does not respond or responds very slowly to various mouse clicks and such. For example, I wanted to disable all plug ins and when I clicked on Tools and Addins it took three minutes for the tab to open and after 20 minutes still nothing had appeared on the tab. I've tried restarting Firefox, restarting the Mac, resetting Firefox to the default settings, starting Firefox in safe mode, renaming the places.sqlite file, uninstalling Firefox and reinstalling from a fresh download, performing a complete uninstall and reinstall in which I remove the Firefox folder from the Application Support folder after uninstalling, and relocating the plugins folder. I've tried just about everything in every Firefox support article that there is and nothing works. Any suggestions would be very helpful.Thanks.
