320 X 240 .MOV CLIPS TO DVD?

I have collected a few .MOV clips from still cameras. The clips are easy enough to drop into a sequence and export but the picture quality is adversly affected when the 320 x 240 frame is expanded to full size. I would like to export (for DVD) the original size frame with a black background filling the rest so it would look like a smaller frame in the center. I can certainly scale the sequence in Motion but am wondering if the damage has already been done. Is there a better way to do this? Thanks for your help!

Drop the clips into a normal FCP Sequence. Make sure the scale for each clip is set to 100% so the clips are at their native 320x240 size. Export as you normally would to make a DVD-Video.

Hi all -
I've been trying to wrap my non-computer brain around the process of importing a previously burned home movie clip from DVD back into iMovie so I can add to it. (I messed up the first burn, but because of limited space, I deleted the original clip.)
I'd be happy to get it back to tape on my camcorder if that is the only way to do it, but I fear losing quality.
I've downloaded Mac the Ripper and Streamclip, but I don't want to pay extra money for any software (I'm a poor, starving student mom).
Can anyone help out?

How to import movie clips from DVD?

A really stupid question, and possibly this has been asked before, but I am at my wits end--is there a way I can import video clips to iMovie from a DVD disc that contains video files? When I try to select 'import movies' from the file menu, it won't import the clips because the video files contained within the dvd are VOB. IFO. and BUP. formats, and the iMovie will only read MPEG or mov. Is there a way I can somehow import these clips by changing the setting somewhere in the iMovie or am I to require some other type of application to convert these files before I can successfully import them?
I'm really only trying to make a simple short clip, nothing big. The longest it will probably be is at most 5 mins. Any suggestions?

Not by changing a setting. Multiplexed MPEG-2 content is not iMovie '08 "edit" compatible. Either the content is recognized as being on a compatible camcorder and converts the content to an "edit" compatible compression format or you must manually convert the multiplexed MPEG-2 content yourself for import at the "Finder" file level.

If your VOB files are not encrypted (i.e., on a homemade DVD), then they can be copied to your hard drive. Once on your hard drive, you can use any of several applications to perform your conversion. Cost and work flow depend on the application you use. I normally recommend a new user try something like iSquint for their initial attempt. It is free and simple to use. Simply drop the copied VOB file containing the video you want to the application work area, set the "Optimize for TV" option, and press the "Start" button. This will produce an MPEG4/AAC file that can be edited. Other applications can produce alternative compression formats for editing but are either more difficult to use or are not totally free. My preference would by MPEG Streamclip here, but it requires a $20 QT MPEG-2 Playback component and s much more difficult to use since it has many more options and capabilities. Visual Hub (iSquint's "big brother") is as simple to use, but is a "pay-ware" application. In any case, the free application should allow you to do what you want and then you can decide if you need/want to invest more in the way of cost, time, and/or effort in a better application.
I use Quicktime pro as well to export any file to a version that iMovie will work with
Unfortunately, QT Pro will not work in this case since QT Pro is not conversion compatible with multiplexed MPEG-2 formats. Even if you add the $20 QT MPEG-2 Playback component, it will only convert the video portion of the file. Use an MPEG-based, third-party application like those mentioned above or FFmpegX (donation-ware/difficult to use) or MPEG2 Works (Pay-ware that also requires the $20 MPEG-2 component, etc.

How to burn downloaded movie clips to dvd

some friends emailed me a home movie and i can't get it to burn. i put it in toast and it showed that it burned but it wouldn't work in the dvd player.

You have two options:

If you want to burn just as a file for other computers to read it, then just drag it to the blank DVD-R, CD-R, DVD-ROM, etc.

If you want to burn it as a tracked DVD for DVD players to read for special purposes, then use a simple application called iDVD. Just follow through its guidelines and soon you'll be able to burn it. Just remember to use DVD-Rs.

The entire DVD containing Quick Time movies (Final CutExpress project) and slideshow was done in iPhoto. The Final Cut project was rendered prior to export to QT, the slideshow was sent to iDVD withoutrendering. The slideshow with most of the pictures from my still camera incombination with stills from movie clips and some downloaded from the Internet.After burning, the movie playback is perfect but the slideshow is not. The slideshow containing 3 differentkinds of pictures; those from my still camera looks OK; the stills from themovie clips and from the Internet are not. I don’t have much knowledge in this game, but I think NTSCwith frame size 720x480, and the downloaded picture Item Property shows most ofthem are between 400 to 500 x 300 to 600, may be both of them are not suitablefor TV screen while the stills from my still camera looks OK because they are2048x1536. How do I separate short movie clips loaded from my digital camera to iPhoto 11 at the same time pics are downloaded and how do I get those video clips to a dvd that will play on a dvd player

When loading pics to iphoto 11 from my camera, occassionaly it will include some video clips with the description of Movxxxx. I wonder if someone could direct me to some straight forward instructions as to how to transfer these video (movie) clips, which now exist in iphoto, to a dvd that will play on a dvd player as one might expect to see a video play, including the audio that was captured at the time of filming.

You need to open iMovie and it will have a event library called iPhoto Videos, click on that and the videos will load in the window next to it, then you make a new project in iMovie. Then open iDVD and make a new project then import the movies to the program then burn to a DVD..

Movie clips in iDVD won't burn to disc image or a DVD

I created an iDVD project with a slide show created in iPhoto and some movie clips I took with a digital camera that were also in iPhoto. It works great in iDVD preview. When I burn a disc image or a DVD, the movie clips don't play while the slideshow is fine. There is also the clue in the menu of the project (only on the disc image or DVD, not the iDVD preview) that the printing of the names of the movie clips is clearly lighter than the name of the slideshow. During the burning to disc or DVD, one can see the movie clips supposedly being encoded and no error messages occur. This is a birthday present. Help, please.

It's become a moot point. It turns out that while I could navigate with the mouse with respect to the slide show (on both the disc image and the DVD I burned), I had to use the arrows and enter key to navigate and activate the movie clips. Once I figured out to use the arrow keys/enter key rather than the mouse, everything worked okay. Thanks for trying to help me!

I have had some luck doing the following: Export each clip from imovie as a quicktime clip. Open iDVD and create a new project. Import a few stills into iDVD and then click on the button that gets created to get into the screen where the individual slides appear. Drag each quicktime into that screen and arrange in the order you want. You can then delete the stills. The button that appeared when you dropped in the stills will launch a complete show.

How can I burn Movie clips to Lightroom using DVD-RW disk

I have edited a file containg 2 dozen still photos and 7 movie clips. Although I can burn the still photos by clicking on EXPORT I am later told (but not the reason why) that the Movie clips did not successfully burn to disk.

AFAIK, there's no way to do that with Premiere Pro. You can probably find a utility on the Internet that will change the dates for you after the fact.

Copy - Pasting .mov clips causes QT crash?

I don't have occassion to do this often but for some (long!) time now I find that when I've copy-pasted a few short clips together (to make a longer clip), QT will suddenly quit without warning. This is accompanied by the message asking if I want to make a report to Apple. (Lately - I've given up on reporting - the problem has existed over a couple generations of QT (6.x and 7.x) on two different Macs (a G4 eMac and an Intel Mac Pro).
Apparently this will never be fixed - but does anyone have any "work around" to avoid these crashes?

All the video clips I take are done with one of two Canon cameras - both are "still" cameras which take outstanding video (stored as .AVI files). When I'm copy-pasting or as happened this morning, just changing the size of these files (whether or not I've already saved them as .mov files), - QuickTime quits like a pathetic, sick little puppy. This has been happening for *a year!* now! (before around v. 6.5) used to be a rock solid foundation for "basic video" editing and conversion.
Ironically - I'm running QT 7.4 on the Mac Pro right now and it does not have any problem with MPEG4 files - which is what you're asking about.
I did send Apple another report on this just before replying to your post - here is that (with crash report). -->>

From "widescreen" to 320 x 240

Hi there, I have a small problem I have solved before... but I can´t remember how I did it..
I have a .mov video which is 720 x 576... It looks like the movie is recorded in widescreen so when I play the movie all the persons in the movie got "tiny" faces... I have managed to convert the video to
1024 x 576 so they all look normal... the problem is that I need to make it a video for web sized 320 x 240 with black over and under, and the persons have to look normal...
can anyone please help me with how I can do it.. refresh my memory

In DVD studioPro>Track editor (lower right hand side window) you can select your *display mode* (16: 9 pan-scan if you don't use Compressor, 16:9 letterbox as a second option if you encode the video with Compressor). Once that's done your track will automatically display the way you want it.
Try a test with just 20 seconds to check that out.

How do I backup movies/clips to use in future projects?

After burning my first DVD & deleting the iMovie file, I was sad to discover that I could not just pop the DVD into my drive & access the material to use in future projects. (Is there a way to do do this that I don't know about?)
I'm guessing I need to burn the archived iMovie file onto multiple regular CDs (I have not burned anything that spans several CDs before). This is confusing me because the zipped file is hardly smaller than the original (Is there a better zip program than the one that comes with this system?) I threw away the wrapper for my blank CDs so I don't know how much they hold but I think it is something ridiculously small like 670MB and the iMovie file is 7GB. Is this the only way to save my movie/clips so that I can bring clips into a future movie?

DVD is end-of-the-road, not meant for further processing; there are tools, allowing to import DVD to iM, but that is a time-consuming and lossy (=losing pic quality) process, due to the deliver-format nature of DVDs.... search forum for "DVD import"
iM is by concept not meant to handle a clip in many projects (that can easily been accomplished with pro tools as FC(E), which offer "bins" for imports, offering the content to many sequences/projects).
there are workarounds, dragging clips from the internal files of an iM project to another... but, as said: you "fumble" the concept: import tape, edit, burn - done.
a video contains ~13GB of data per hour... and, video is allready highly compressed, no zipper can reduce that dramatically... and, you risk damage of files... yepp, a cd-r fits ~700MB = 3.5min of video......
recommended workflow:
* don't store iM projects on -r media (cd/dvd), but firewire connected harddrives..
* keep the tapes; import clips from tape into project; you can export single clips out of iM/import into another project, I wouldn't do that with "lots" of clips, importing the tape is... more convenient..

I am using the loadmovie method to load a swf file into a
movie clip "container"
Code snippet:

The movie clip I load does not have a stop action in frame 1,
but comes up playing (audio and images). I am not using video. It
is a series of still images synced to the audio.
I would like to be able to load the movie clip, stop it from
playing, and by clicking buttons, get it to play, pause, etc like
the buttons and skin on the FLVPlayer.
Any tips on how to do this?

option to publish as 'actionscript 1.0 or 2.0' is the script you
supplied an actionscript 3.0?

IMovie HD refuses to import .MOV clips that it used to import.

I've got an odd problem. Doing a search didn't turn up anything relevant to my situation so I'm gonna try to pick some brains on here.
My Problem: My version of iMovie(5.0.2) no longer recognizes .mov clips that it used to. Meaning that when I try to import clips using settings that worked previously, I am now confronted with an Error during import message that reads "The file could not be imported: Unknown Error". Two things have changed since I last made a project.
1.) I have added a microphone that now allows me to record stereo audio. I don't think this is the culprit.
2.) I updated to 10.6.6 Recently. I think this may be what messed things up.
After trying to Drag and also import clips through the menu with no success, I tried to import clips that I have used before under the exact same conditions and was greeted with the same error. This is importing using the HDV 720p setting. If I try to import new or old clips using the standard DV (16:9) setting then everything works.
These same clips are able to be imported into iMovie '09 with no trouble but I am uncomfortable with that interface. Is there anything I can do to continue to work in iMovie HD or would I just be better off with getting used to iMovie 09?

I have Mac 10.6.6 and use iMovie 05 transferring it to iDVD 08. It is getting less easy to do, but usually i make the movie in 05, complete with chapter marking and press the export to DVD.
The file for the Movie I have made is saved automatically in the Movie folder on my owner/home page. To get it out to iDVD 08 open 08 and select create new project and click save This puts a small file into Documents, However to get your work into the new DVD select import>video and when the screen opens for you to find it go to your movie folder in your owners area and click to open the file. It works, but there is usually a problem somewhere along the line. Usually a different one each time, occasionally it goes like clockwork. It won't work if you try the drop down 'open' option.
This last time I got so irritated that I've downloaded the last set of film clips to 05 and then transferred them to 08 to compare the results. I still feel that the later versions are less good (?dumbed down) and await to be converted.
