32inch HDTV LCD

Hello all - Im fairly new to the whole HDTV area, while ive had experience with one before but a blotch of dead pixel filled the screen and got annoying watching videos or using it as a pc monitor...ive found two monitors im interested in purchasing on a budget at the moment to use as a Computer Monitor and basic entertainment usage [dvd player, general tv watching]
1. http://microcenter.com/singleproduc...uctid=0245608
2.http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1140392384567
Im trying to figure out if those would be beneficial for a pc monitor im currently using a Apple Mac Pro 2.66 quad core with a ATI X1900XT video card which suopports high resolutions but form my previous experience with a 32inch lcd hdtv monitor the best i could get was 1280x768 or something really bizarre like that and stretched out all the text and graphics and was unbearable to workon for video editing and applications though video showed upw ell as a pc monitor ...
I have a vga cable and a HDMi-to-DVI cable and was wondering waht would be the best option to use to get a good resolution as a pc monitor as im using both OS X and XP Pro SP2 on the same machine
If anyone has any good tips or pointers i should look into before purchasing either of those monitors id appreciate it and how to set up the full resolution with the monitor and video card as im not entirely sure how to get the best aspect out of them - as ive seen alot of pcs with 32inch hdtv and they have pretty clear set ups without saturation or blurry graphics and choppiness and can read websites and text pretty good.
Thanks!!
APPLE:
2.66Ghz QuadCore
2gb RAM
2x500gb Harddrive
ATI X1900XT PCI EXPRESS VIDEO CARD
1xSuperDrive
MacOsX & WinXp Pro Sp2

as a main monitor, i wouldnt get an HDTV. its jsut a personal preference though, i know the price makes them tempting. I am currently using a 20" apple cinema and a 42" wesitnghouse HD Video LCD monitor (professional quality HD-Ready TV). any HDTV will work fine, but you should consider the pixel pitch before you buy

  • Which Graphics Card for a 40 inch HDTV LCD or Plasma Monitor for the best

Which Graphics Card for a 40 inch HDTV LCD or Plasma Monitor for the best value and price?
Hi, I was wondering if I replace my current standard graphics card for a MacPro Early 2008 for a graphics card for a 40" HDTV, which was is the best for the price and value? My current card when used with such a large monitor/ TV isn't very good, I think? So thinking of updating...

This sounds like a price match question. Without knowing all the details, it sounds like a yes for the Westinghouse, but I would encourage you to read the price match policy link here:

If all you care about is 1080p definition and an HDMI input at a $300 price point then this tv should suit your needs. (As a bonus it has 120Hz refresh for smoother action scenes.)http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Westinghouse+-+40%26%2334%3B+Class+-+LCD+-+1080p+-+120Hz+-+HDTV/5772998....
Although I do work for the Best Buy, all comments and opinions are my own.

  • HDTV LCD 40-42" w/ headphone jack

Anybody know of a 40 to 42 inch LCD HDTV that comes with a headphone jack (and mutes the speakers when the headphones are plugged in)?  Thanks Ecurb
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

some TV's will come with it but even if you had one it means you would have a long cable running from the TV  to where ever you are sitting. The best solution would be wireless headphones where you can listen to the show or movie with the volume on the speakers being down. One of the home theater guys or the Magnolia Pro's would be the best to talk to at the closest Best Buy store.

  • Can not get MacBook Pro to display on Sony HDTV LCD

So I bought a DVI to RGB (Y/Pb/Pr) cable. I have it hooked up and use Detects Displays. It detects a VGA connection but it will not show a picture on the TV. I have verified I am on the right input on the display and checked all just in case. I can't use DVI to HDMI because the TV only has one HDMI and it is being used by my cable signal. There is another input that is labeled RGB in the Sony manual but I can not find a DVI to RGB that looks like the plug configuration on the back of the TV. I would like to stay away from S-video and everything else because they do not support HD. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried a DVI-VGA (D-SUB) cable? It does actually support any resolution supported by both the display and the computer (including HD). This will deliver the same signal as your analog component RGB cable. I use this with my SONY HDTV every day, works very well.

  • Using a HDTV LCD for mirroring

    Hello all,
I have a 20" imac and have been looking at buying a Samsung LE32R41BDX for a new TV, half the reason for this is so I can mirror the imac and watch DVD's etc. The Samsung has a resolution of 1366x768 with 800:1 contrast and 500cd/m2. it also has s-video and HDMI (DVI comp.)
Can anybody put me at ease that I will get good enough results to be worth buying, if not can you recommend an alternative LCD. and also, should I use s-video or DVI for best quality?
    Kind Regards

Hucky, Welcome to the discussion area!
You need the Apple VGA Display Adapter M8639G/A. Check the box your iBook came in. That cable came with my iBook.

  • What cable do I need to watch movies on my Sony HDTV LCD tv from MacBook pr

I have a brand new MacBook pro 13" and just wanted to watch movies on my tv instead of the laptop, thanks

Depends on what input options you have on your TV.
If your TV has DVI in then you need a MiniDisplay Port to DVI Adapter.
If your TV does not have DVI in but has HDMI then you need a MiniDisplay Port to HDMI Adapter with Audio Support.

  • ATI w/ HDTV

Im looking into purchasing a LCD HDTV roughly 32inch in size for my macpro to use both in windows and osx.
I was wondering if anyone had any good tips on picking one and what i should look for as resolutions will be a tad picky, i tried a 32inch hdtv lcd on it at one point but the settings were not well adjusted as part of viewing area [menu bars] were cut off and tried editing the settings but could never get osx to view it properly though ive seen some photos and articles saying its possible and those with a nice resolution setting.
    any good ideas, tips?
im assuming, with regards to that an hdtv isnt a dedicated computer monitor, but if i switched from OSX to Windows like in normally do with my ACD the resolution should stay consistent when i switch so i dont have to adjust it each and every time?
    thanks in advanced

I bought a 37" Westinghouse 1080P LCD TV as a display for my mac pro and my windows lapop, and I am really happy with it. If you can get a 32" 1080P TV (they are hard to find) Sharp makes one, but it is about $1,300, then get it, but 37" TVs are easier to find with 1080P resolution. If you don't get a 1080P TV and your TV can only do 1080i, then you wil be running your display at 1366 x 768 resolution, but if you get a 1080P display, then you can run it at 1920 x 1080, a big increase in resolution. I love my Westinghouse and it had 6HD inputs - 1 HDMI, 2 x DVI, 1 x VGA, 2 x Component. It has no internal tuner, but my cable company requires a seperate box anyway. I don't know what your price range is, but I got mine for $1,005 off of Amazon. The model is LVM-37W3. I highly reccomend it. Westinghouse makes a 32" version but it is not 1080P. Once I set the resolution on my Mac and PC for the first time, I never had to change it, no matter how many times I switched back and forth. If you can afford to get a 1080P display - get it, it is definately worth the money for the increased resolution - 1,024,512 more pixels. Hope this is helpful.

  • Insignia LCD HDTV Display

I got a HDTV LCD TV for X-mas last year and just recently it has been getting this gray line along the top of the display and then the picture gets kinda distorted. I looked all over for information but unfortunately, like normal, I can not get my questions answered. This is why I NEVER use Best Buy....but my dad was not as smart as I am to not use them. So if anyone has any information that would be great.

    Hey Ktarver2,
Sorry to hear you're having problems with your Insignia TV. If you just got it for Christmas last year, I would recommend contacting our In Home Service department at 1-888-BESTBUY to set up an appointment while you are within the one-year manufacturer's warranty. After the year passes, you would be responsible for cost of all repairs so you'll want to call as soon as possible. I don't know what model your tv is, but you can also check for your product manual and information at http://www.insignia-products.com
    Hope this helps!

  • Mini - DVI/HDMI - Onkyo TX-SR674 - Philips 42" LCD | Problem

OK, I just got my new Mini (1.66 Core Duo) to hook up to my Philips 42" 1080P HDTV LCD. I have the video signal going via a DVI to HDMI cable through my Onkyo TX-SR674 Receiver. The reason for this setup is that the Onkyo receiver controls my video switching and sends the video signal through only one HDMI cable to the TV. That way with one press, I switch audio and video signal at the same time.
Well, the Mini works great with this setup... until... I start up Safari. As soon as Safari starts, I lose the video signal. I can run iTunes, System Utilities and it doesn't cause this problem. The video signal flickered a bit during a repair of permissions, but as soon as Safari brings up the Apple page, I lose the signal.
My video res is setup at 1920x1200, 60 Hz.
Any idea why this is happening. What in the Safari browser would cause the video signal to all of the sudden freak out?
    Thanks!
      Mac OS X (10.4.9)

OK, I had no problems with a direct hookup to my TV and bypass the TX-SR674, but I was not satisfied with that solution!
I found other programs and not just certain webpages in Safari that caused the display to freakout in the old mode, too.
I downloaded and installed switchResX and it had two (2) 1920x1080x60 resolutions listed. When I choose the other 1920x1080x60 resolution, it works fine. Doesn't freak out. Not sure what is different about the second setting, but so far it seems to work OK.
If worse comes to worse, I could always lower the resolution and just have the TX-S674 upscale it to 1080 for me. I may do this eventually anyway since everything on the screen is a bit too small to read from my couch. Not sure on that yet.
But anyways, just thought I'd report back on my results. Thanks!

  • No Display on HDTV using Mini Display Port to HDMI Cable

    Hi,
I have a Mini diplay port to HDMI cable Male to male cable. I am trying to connect my Macbook Pro running OS 10.6.4 to my LG 32inch HDTV and cannot get display onto the HDTV.
The screen just blinks for a bit but still no luck. I have searched a number of forums and am still looking for the appropriate steps.
Is there any configuration that I am missing?
    Please advise.

    Hi,
I currently have the same problem, but have found a temporary solution while looking for a permanent one. The temporary solution involves resetting the SMC. To do this follow these steps:
-First connect the cable to both your TV and your MacBook Pro and make sure both are powered on.
-Then shut down your MacBook Pro
-On the left side of your keyboard press command, alt (option), shift and the power button at the same time, holding them for a second and then releasing them at the same time.
-Wait about 10 seconds and then power on your MacBook Pro, the display should be detected and working.
As I said earlier this is only a temporary solution and I am looking for a permanent one, so any more help would be appreciated.
Let me know if it works or not.

  • HDTV advice Samsung LED or Sony XBR?

I am getting a HDTV LCD for the 1st time and wanted to know if anyone has any experience, good or bad with the Samsung LED 6000 series 46" or the Sony XBR 46"?
Saw them both at Best Buy today.
I guess I can use it with a mini too if I need too.
    thanks in advance

I cannot address the technical issues, but I can offer the advice to get the Best Buy extended warranty, particularly if you purchase a Samsung. If you have a problem later on than the local technicians cannot fix, Samsung customer service is terrible. The Best Buy warranty has "lemon" coverage that, unless they've changed the terms, will provide a replacement if the unit can't be fixed.
If you want comparisons between the two systems in terms of picture and audio quality, I'd suggest asking in the AVS Forums:
    http://www.avsforum.com/
That's a great place for advice on AV and home theater gear.
    Regards.

  • Can HDTV be used for editing?

I have Sony DSR 30, DVCAM deck and Canon HD camera. Can I use HDTV LCD for example 24", for editing, monitoring? Can I use my old Samsung 22", LCD for the same purpose. There is only a computer connection, no RC or S cable in/out.
    Thanks,

HDV will not stream out through FW to an external to my knowledge.
However, take a look at the Matrox MXO.

  • Using Bravia TV as second display with Macbook Pro

After waiting weeks, my Mini DisplayPort-HDMI cord finally arrived, only to find that my TV wouldn't connect to my computer. After a full day of fiddling and lots of (mostly unhelpful) Googling, I managed to get them working.
My TV is a Sony Bravia HDTV LCD tv, and the Macbook is a mid-2010 running Lion; if any of that is helpful.
    I have a cheap Mini DisplayPort-HDMI adapter, and a mid-priced Rocketfish HDMI-HDMI cable.
    The Issue:
When connecting the tv and computer, there was a visual connection (both flashed momentary blue screens), but the tv would show it's 'menu' background and in the corner it would say 'Invalid Format'.
    What I tried:
         - using each HDMI port on the tv, to rule it out that it was an issue with the tv (however my cable box uses HDMI, and works fine)
         - connecting when the Macbook is on, when it's off, and during start-up
         - a lot of fiddling with the tv's menu, trying to find out if unsed HDMI ports were disabled or something (we found nothing)
         - changing the Macbook's resolution to the very worst to see if the tv could find that (didn't help)
         - contacing Sony to see if they had heard of this and had tips: to which the rep said that Macbooks don't work through HDMI, so I'd wasted my money on the cable.
    What worked:
I shut down the Macbook and booted it up in SafeBoot (hold Shift key during start up). In SafeBoot, my computer's desktop background showed (nothing else) and a little computer monitor icon appeared in my upper menu bar, which when selected showed a few of the display options available in System Preferences>Display. In this menu, it gave me a few resolution choices for 'Colour Display' and also a few for 'Sony TV'. I picked the highest one under Sony TV, and selected 'Turn on Mirroring' (which allows all my desktop icons and task bar to show, in addition to just the Desktop background). After this, I shut down the computer, still connected, and started up out of SafeBoot. Now in normal mode, my TV recognised the computer and I was able to sign into my Macbook user account while it displayed on the TV.
(If your sound isn't going through to the TV, go into System Pref>Sound>Output and select your TV. If the option isn't there, or this doesn't work, I don't think your Macbook's compatible yet, so you'll just need one of those stero cord which you can get anywhere and are super easy -- plug into Mac's headphone jack, other into the tv's audio jack.)
So, try Safeboot! I think someone, somewhere said that both the computer and TV try to guess and remember the settings they think the other need. If they're wrong, nothing happens but they always remember to go to those settings anyway. By going into SafeBoot, the computer is open to changing those settings and you're more likely to establish a connection.
(For sanity's sake, I would suggest turning off all of your 'Launch on Start-up' apps, since you'll have to wait for all these to load, and if your resolution's low in SafeBoot, you'll have a very crowded screen with a lot of apps going.)
Hope this helps someone; I wish I'd known to try this from the start.

    Thanks

  • Connection Questions

Ok so I have been thinking of buying a new mac mini and a standard HDTV LCD display to use as a TV using basic cable, computer, and media center. My question is can or how would I switch from cable TV to my mac mini display?

If the TV has multiple inputs, typically you'd use the remote of the TV to switch.

  • FCP 7 & 3 Monitors

Hello, I currently have a 2009 Mac Pro, with two AOC 2752VH 27" LED HD Monitors, and one Samsung P2570HD 24.6-Inch Full 1080p HDTV LCD Monitor. How would I go about setting up Final Cut Pro 7 so the two AOC monitors are for the editing, and the Samsung monitor is for the playback output?
    Thanks!
    Manny Rothman

You need a video output device that will utilize an available PCIe slot in your Mac Pro to provide video to your Samsung monitor. Some examples:
