330 Mb of "hidden" photos?  ORLY!

I cannot for the life of me figure out why iTunes is reporting that I have 330 Mb of photos after I have unchecked all of my photos albums. If I sync "Selected Albums" in iTunes and uncheck everything "so I'm syncing "0 albums"), iTunes reports 330 Mb of "Photos" on the iPhone on the main screen (the yellow portion of the capacity bar). If I uncheck "Sync photos from" entirely, the 330 Mb disappears on the next sync. Checking it brings back the 330 Mb of "Phantom" pictures. The Photo app on the iPhone displays only the "Camera roll" album when I have "0 albums" chosen, and it has 40 pictures, only 6 of which are over 150k (these six weigh in around 1Mb each).
To make things even weirder, when I uncheck "sync photos from," the yellow segment on the capacity bar labelled "Photos" disappears, but the free space only increases by 10Mb and an orange "Others" section weighing in at 60Mb appears. None of the other indicators change in size. -330 +60 =/= -10
I am COMPLETELY confused.

Hi,
Try deleting the iPod photo Cache that is described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1314
If the issue persists, try restarting or restoring the iPhone.
You can restart the iPhone by holding the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears> then slide to turn off> and turn the iPhone back on by pressing the Sleep/Wake again, as described on page 46 of the iPhone User Guide.
http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/iPhoneUserGuide.pdf
This article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414 will walk you through restoring the iPhone.

  • How do i see hidden photos on MacBook Pro

I have clicked the hidden photos in the view tab & then made a smart folder but the folder is empty?  I still have the hidden photos, but can't see or delete them, I can see them on my iPad & iPhone but can't delete them as they are not the host of the pics. I have deleted all my pics from iPhoto on my MacBook Pro to see if that will get rid of them but all my pics were gone apart from the hidden ones?. Help!

You can play it in a web browser but you must have a Facebook account and play it via that app.

  • IPhoto - Hidden Photos - Events Thumbnail Display Bug

_*iPhoto - Hidden Photos - Events Thumbnail Display Bug*_
iPhoto 08 contains a bug affecting the display of images that the user has marked as "hidden." Specifically, when the user toggles the View-Hidden Photos menu option, the Library-Events thumbnail view does not refresh quickly or reliably to show or hide Events containing "hidden photos."
Sometimes all "hidden" photos remain visible when they should be hidden.
Sometimes all "hidden" photos remain INvisible when they should be visible.
This affects the Event thumbnail "key photo" if this photo was designated as hidden.
This also affects any hidden Event photos when the user "skims" over an Event thumbnail to preview its contents.
The issue is isolated to Events thumbnails. The problem does not exist:
    a) while browsing thumbnails inside a specific Event.
    b) while browsing photos in Library-Photos.
    c) while browsing photos in an Album.
    _*"Fixes" that do NOT work:*_
Software updates... I have the latest version of OSX 10.5.2 and the latest version of iPhoto 08, including all the recent security and graphics system updates as of 02/16/2008.
Maintenance... The issue is NOT resolved by rebuilding the database, rebuilding icons, or deleting the iPhoto preferences file. The issue can be reproduced in a separate user account after creating a new event in an otherwise empty iPhoto database.
After much tinkering around, the following is the closest I've come to a
    _*TEMPORARY WORKAROUND:*_
To *NOT DISPLAY* hidden images, go to the View menu and make sure Hidden Photos *is not* checked. Restart iPhoto, and the hidden images should now be invisible.
To DISPLAY hidden images, go to the View menu and make sure Hidden Photos is checked. While the hidden images are now visible elsewhere, they may still be invisible in Events thumbnails, so restart iPhoto, and then wait about 10 seconds for the Events view to refresh with all the hidden thumbnail images now visible.
If after carefully reading this you feel you have a definitive solution, please post a reply with your suggestions. Otherwise, please post to confirm if you can reproduce the problem on your computer running iPhoto 08 on Leopard. If so, please also file an official bug report with Apple. The more people report this, the faster we'll get it fix.
    .

My Acrobat Pro 9 has also this bug. I am using XP SP2. I have reported this bug at Adobe web site many times. I wrote to the Adobe customer care. I wrote about this on many different forums and I was hopping an update with this bug fixed. I installed all updates till now bu the problem still exists. I do not know why Adobe is not caring about this stupid bug. It is really, really annoying. In my experience with Adobe Acrobat for about 10 years, Acrobat version 9 is the worst version I ever worked with. There are a lot of glitches and bugs in it, expecially with fonts, web version creation, password protection encryption etc etc.
If you find any fix please post back on this forum.

  • Can I select and manipulated hidden photos as a group?

I've been through an album and have hidden some photos as they don't add much to the slide show I'm creating. At this point I would like to do some stuff with the album as it is (without the hidden photos), so I would like to delete all the hidden photos from the album. Is there any way to do this? Similarly, could I export all the hidden photos so as to archive them somewhere, or export the album without the hidden photos? Really I want a way to treat 'hidden' as a status - is any of this possible?

  • Photos: why do hidden photos remain visible in all photos and in last import?

just updated iPhoto to new Photos app. and migrated my library, noticed that my hidden photos are no longer as hidden as they where in iPhoto..

I'm afraid that hidden photos do not work the same way that they did in iPhoto."All photos" is intended to include hidden photos. Hidden photos are only hidden from moments and collections.

  • How do I get "hidden photos" back into album permanently.  How di they get "hidden"?

How do I get "hidden photos" back into album permanently?  How did they get "hidden"?

    View -> Hidden Photos.

  • Hidden Photo Album

I did the most recent OS upgrade and part of that is a new version of iPhoto, now Photos... My first impression is rather negative, but the problem I'm having now is that the "Hidden Photos" option is no longer present in the "View" menu. I have hundreds of hidden photos. If I click on "Photos" the hidden photos do not appear, however if I click on "Albums," there they all are. There is an "Show Hidden Photo Album" option but I've so far been unable to figure out how to create one of these "hidden photo albums." Next thing you know my nephews'll be seein' Abiela's ***...

The "Hiding" is different in Photos from iPhoto.
If you hide a photo, it will be invisible in the Photos view - in Moments, Years, Collections, but it will be visible in any album.  So there is no need for a View option "Show Hidden Photos". All hidden photos are shown together in the Hidden Photos album, that you can add to the sidebar.
There is an "Show Hidden Photo Album" option but I've so far been unable to figure out how to create one of these "hidden photo albums."
You cannot create albums based on "hidden".   There is only the one smart album, that will show all hidden photos.

  • Hidden Photos and Web Galleries

Looks like if you have an event with contains some hidden photos and you publish the event to a web gallery, the hidden photos also get published.
Is there any say to prevent these from being published?
    Thanks.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. No, the web gallery will include all photos in the album or gallery. You can change how you create the web gallery. Open the event, select the photos, not the album icon, and create the event from just the selected photos. That should exclude the hidden photos.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Hidden Photos Appear In Slideshow

Is this a bug or a feature? If you've hidden some photos in an Event and then make a slideshow of that Event, the hidden photos show up in the slideshow.
Why would you ever want hidden photos popping up in your slideshow?

On the face of it, your point certainly makes sense. But the point of the Quick Slideshow is to show you everything in the chosen Event (or Album) and everything includes hidden photos too. It’s quite possible that a person might forget that they have hidden photos in an Event, for instance, and this feature could help them find something thought lost.
So I can see where I might agree with you, and where I might not.
On the basis of that statement I’m now going to run for election. While I’m campaigning... let Apple know what you think

  • Aperture Projects - Hidden Photos - Corrupt?

I have about 10 folders, perhaps 500 subfolders, and about 1300 projects in a 40 GB Aperture 3 Library.  One folder, and many, but not all, of the perhaps 300 subfolders 400 projects inside, will not show photos.  The photo count in the projects are accurate, I can make a smart album which shows the photos, and I can manually find the photos inside the hidden folders within the Aperture Library, but the photos will not appear if I highlight the project or the parent folder.
I have rebuilt the database, repaired permissions and gone to the Apple Genius Bar, only to get cheerful instructions to manually rebuild everything.  I'm hoping for a more clever solution, like trashing a plist, using my backup copies of the library, or something along those lines.  Any ideas would be much appreciated.
I'm also open to suggestions that I move to Lightroom, or another software, for to have this happen 6 months into using this software concerns me.

    Hooray!!!!!!!!
You just saved me the prospect of several days worth of work.  Hooray!  Thank you so much.
For some reason, the folders and projects with the hidden photos have some sort of filter.  But when I go to the search bar and click on the magnifying glass, and select, show all (^6), the images return.  I'm guessing I might need to manually do that for each folder, but at most that would take an hour, as opposed to the several days my other options would have taken.
Do you have any idea how I might have accidentally created a filter for selected photos?  The thing in common about those images is that most are pictures I collected from various websites on the internet.  But I'm not sure that has anything to do with it, as other parent folders and subfolders with photos from the internet were just fine.

  • Photos update causes hidden photos to appear in screensaver slideshow

The upgrade to Photos caused me a few issues relating to hidden photos. First, I started seeing photos I had hidden appear in the screensaver. Then I went to find the hidden photos to re-hide them, but they seemed to be already hidden. Then I couldn't show the Hidden Photos Album -- I had to hide a new photo in order to activate the "Show Hidden Album" option in the menu. Once I did that, I could see all of my previously hidden photos.
HIdden photos continue to appear in the screensaver, however. Can anyone find a new setting somewhere to ensure that hidden photos don't show, or is this a bug?

How do you know what the intention was, and how it "hardly seems to be the case here"?
So you're saying it was intended to show photos marked as "hidden" in albums, slideshows, and events? If so, what's the point of having specifying photos as hidden when they're clearly not being hidden very well at all?
This is not how it worked in iPhoto - hidden meant hidden from any photo display, unless you specified Show Hidden Photos in View. To intentionally change the behavior indicates the designers felt that this was a better way. I can't see how freely displaying hidden photos is an improvement, can you?
    Already provided feedback.

  • Scrolling through photos, restarting iPhoto: "Hidden Photos" are unhidden!

    Hi,
As you may know, iPhoto has this great feature where you can mouse over an Event to scroll through the photos in it. iPhoto also has another great feature - the possibility to hide photos!
However, here's when they both went wrong: I had a few Hidden Photos in an event, yet when I moused over it - they showed up! Just makes them not so hidden...
Also, when I last closed iPhoto, Hidden Photos were checked to show. As I opened iPhoto up again - they were still unhidden. It would be nice if they automatically hid themselves upon closing. Is there an Apple Script available for this?
In the same scenario, I hid the photos manually. And as I opened up a photo in an event up full screen, and browsed through the event using the arrow keys - a hidden photo appeared! This, as I understand - is a bug. Where would I report this?
    I hope you can help!
    Thank you for your time,
    Rudi

    rudi_e:
First delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder. Then rebuild the library as follows: launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the first three options.
    Happy Holidays

  • Why do hidden photos still show up in 'all photos'?

I have been using Photos for a couple days now and I have noticed that when I hide a photo it gets hidden from 'moments', 'collections' and 'years' but not from 'All photos' under albums. Its frustrating since there is a specific folder under albums (that you can also hide from view) called 'hidden photos'. Why go through all that trouble of creating a 'hidden photos' album, that can be hidden from your folder list, to still allow all the hidden photos to be displayed under 'all photos' under albums? Seems to defeat the purpose.
Am I the only one that is having this issue?

I'm afraid that hidden photos do not work the same way that they did in iPhoto."All photos" is intended to include hidden photos. Hidden photos are only hidden from moments and collections.
