3310 JBOD Installation on V880

Hi Everyone, hoping someone can shed some light on my situation here. I'm trying to setup a SA3310 Array as a JBOD on a SunFire V880.
- i have installed the Ultra3 SCSI LVD card and installed the patch that came on the CD-ROM with the card.
- i have connected the array to the host in a Single Bus configureation. The SCSI patch cable between the to SB ports and then I have Channel A connected to the Ultra 3 SCSI card on the server.
We have had many issues with this - i installed the 112697 patch for the SCSI drivers, shutdown the server and booted the array and the server. Performed a STOP-A and ran PROBE-SCSI-ALL - the result was that I could see the 5 drives inside the Array as well as Target F- the Processor. So ran a boot -r command and restarted the server. Just prior to the system loaded the /dev and /devices I receive the following errors:
WARNING: /pci@8,700000/pci@2/scsi4 (qus0): Target sync. Rate reduced. Target 3 lun 0
WARNING:     /pci@8,700000/pci@2/scsi4 (qus0): Parity Error
WARNING:     /pci@8,700000/pci@2/scsi4 (qus0): corrupt label wrong magic #
At this point my server locks up and boots no further and the only way to get the server to boot is to power off the array and reboot the server without the array turned on. We have been trying to correct this for a couple of months now and we would like to get this working and useable. If anyone has any idea as to what we can do next they would be greated appreciated.
Thanks,
Nick

The output I receive from the PROBE-SCSI-ALL looks like this for the 3310.
/pci@8/700000/pci@2/scsi@4

    Dear Gents,
I will detail the environment which which the customer face the problem in. then i will till you what the problem he face:
1- he has 2 clustered servers which are connected to a 3310 JBOD storage (no controller), the 2 connections come through 2 different SCSI Cards Types as following (V480 has the SCSI Card P/N 375-3057 which is a PCI Dual Ultra3 SCSI Adapter) but (V440 has the SCSI Card P/N 375-3365 which is PCI Dual Ultra3 SCSI Adapter 320)
2- Add to the above point that both SCSI Cards use a different drivers to work as the V480 SCSI card use the QUS driver but the V440 SCSI Card use the MPT driver
3- 3310 storage support both SCSI Cards (Both Cards are compatible with the Storage but an issues are published and alerted from sun related to the V440 SCSI 320 card which we need to start by avoiding it)

i would highly appreciate if any one could fix it
Could you help me to fix this problem
    Best Regards

thank you very much for your answer. i will replace the Card to make it Ultra3 instead of Ultra 320.
could you provide a procedure in how to do it as the cluster nodes will dettect a new path for the external storage and might gice an error or problems?

  • Storage 3310 RAID array as JBOD

    Hi,
I have Storage 3310 RAID array. I want to use it as JBOD, half of the disks connected to
one controller channel, the other half to other controller channel.
I connected cables as it's is shown on FIGURE 4-16 (http://docs.sun.com/source/816-7290-19/ch04_cable.html#pgfId-999796)
but without expansion unit and with one host.
Seems that's not ok since disks are not recognize by format command.
There was RAID 5 was configured. I erased it. What should be configured at storage?
    Thanks
    Mario

AFAIK that's not the question. The question is can we convert (from a H/W standpoint) a RAID array to JBOD. And the answer is no.
You can use NRAID, but this remains a 3310 RAID array. BTW, please have a look at http://dlc.sun.com/pdf/817-3711-17/817-3711-17.pdf page 100:
"Note – NRAID does not provide data redundancy. The NRAID option that appears
in some firmware menus is no longer used and is not recommended. "

  • Turning 3310 into JBOD for Cluster 3.1

    Good afternoon all,
I would like to know what is the configuration for the 3310 to turn it into a jbod that 2 systems can share for a Sun Cluster 3.1 cluster. I have not been able to figure out how to do this from ssconsole nor from the documentation.
My guess is that my cabling is incorrect. I have each system connecting to the 2 3310's on channel 1 for one 3310 and channel 3 on the other 3310 (primary server on channel 1) with the jumper from channel 0 to single.

Right, I guess I should've mentioned, I was asking about whether Sun Cluster 3.1 could present a single "virtual machine" because I'd rather do something like that - which is completely transparent, and can migrate jobs transparently within the "virtual machine" - than the "poor man's clustering" solution, i.e. using round-robin DNS.
We are interested in utilizing the entire cluster's resources - right now I'm doing work with the Grid Engine stuff - "qmake", "qtcsh" - and other non-Grid distributed compilation tools like "distcc" (which, so far, has proven to be pretty amazing - I compiled Mozilla 1.7.2 across 6 SunFire V240's in 38 minutes). But the idea of a completely transparent clustering of multiple machines is our Nirvana, and I'm still wondering if Sun Cluster 3.1 can do something like this. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

  • Converting Storedge 3310 RAID unit to act as JBOD?

Hello, I have been struggling with this configuration, any advice is appreciated.
I have 4 x Storedge 3310 RAID units each with it own controller. I have 1 x Linux host and 1 x HBA in the host, with ch0 and ch1. I want to be able access to all 4 Storedge 3310s. Normally if this were 2 x Storedge 3310 RAID + 2 x JBOD then I just connect each RAID unit to a JBOD then each RAID to ch0 and ch1 respectively to the host. Instead what I have is 4 x Storedge 3310 RAID units, is there a way to convert two of the Storedge 3310 unit to make it act exactly like a JBOD? So that I can daisy-chain them to make them all accessible to the host?
Or adding another HBA card to the host is the only option?
    thank you.

What is the difference between the host/drive channel? Besides the fact that they are their for connecting to disk drive or to host. Because lets say I connect the first RAID controller to the second one, host-to-host configuration from one RAID to another, will the host see this transparently?
By the way, I tried the JBOD method you mention so basically just connect one of the RAID unit to the other one just as a JBOD and the RAID controller can see the disks on a difference channel but only half of the disk because the RAID I/O actually have internal conneciton to half of the disk, while the other half is jumper.

  • HP Photosmart 3310 - Scanner not working over Bonjour since 2.1 update

My HP3310 is connected to my Time Capsule via Ethernet to allow it to be used by my iMac and a Macbook.
After I updated to OSX 10.6 I had a few problems but eventually I was able to get my 3310 working as a printer and a scanner with both Macs connected as described.
This last weekend following installation of the HP printer Driver 2.1 update, the scanner no longer works as connected. I just get the message "failed to open scanner". I tried removing the device and re-installing as described throughout the various threads but nothing works. If I connect the 3310 via USB to my iMac or Macbook then the scanner works but not on the Time Capsule with Bonjour. This has only happened since the 2.1 update was applied which was preceded by the OSX 10.6.1 update.
Anyone with a similar problem that they fixed? If so how did you fix it?

    All,
First off, the HP Photosmart 3310 is supported in Snow Leopard with the In-OS scanning solution. This allows you to scan through Preview, Image Capture, the Print & Fax control panel, and your printer browser. Some details are available on [this|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3771] link (and hopefully the scan document linked to within this page will go live again soon), other information is on [this|http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01846935&lc=en&dlc=e n&cc=us&lang=en&os=219&product=439491] link.
Second, HP Scan Pro and HP Device Manager are NOT supported under Snow Leopard. Do not install the full solution under Snow Leopard, and if you have, I'd suggest deleting these two items. A full solution installer for the Photosmart 3310 that will include HP Scan (scan software compatible with Snow Leopard) should be available later in October.
    Just trying to help.

  • Photosmart 3310 does not install on Windows 7

I can't install the HP Photosmart 3310 software and drivers on my Windows 7.  The very first time i install the software, it will find the printer, but at the very end of the installation process, it will give an error and then uninstall the driver, but leaves some software on my computer.  The next time I run the installer, so that is just tries to add a device, I try to find the printer, it will not find the printer on the network, even if I explicitly type in the printer IP address.
The installation works on Windows XP, i can print from other machines.
I am using the software AIO_CDB_FSW_Full_Win_WW_130_141.exe.
I uninstalled everything and tried again, exactly the same results.
What is going on?  Can you help me get the printer working under Windows 7?

Yup, I have this problem as well, even though at one stage it was working perfectly.  VERY FRUSTRATING.  Especially all the money I have spent on genuine ink over the years!

  • Apple Raid Card panic on Mac Pro Early 2008 after installing SSD as an enhanced JBOD.

I recently installed a SSD drive in my Mac Pro to replace an aging, original boot drive.  I have an Apple raid card with 3 other hds attached - all in an enhanced JBOD configuration.  After installing the SSD from OWC (3G Electra SATA II Compatible) everything appeared to work fine.  But after 36 hours I received a apple raid card kernel panic alert.  See below for diagnostic crash log.  OWC support says that their drive should work fine - now I am not so sure.  Anyone out there with suggestions/solutions is most welcomed.

RE: Mac Pro Replacement Graphics cards
    1) Apple brand cards,
    2) "sold in the Apple store" cards, and
    3) "Mac Edition" cards ...
... show all the screens, including Boot up screens, Safe Mode, Installer, Recovery, debug screens, and Alt/Option boot screens. At this writing, these choices include:
    1) Apple brand cards:
    • Apple-firmware 5770, about US$250** works near full speed in every model Mac Pro, Drivers in 10.6.5
    • Apple-firmware 5870, about US$450
    2) "sold in the Apple store" cards
    • NVIDIA Quadro 4000, about US$1200
    • NVIDIA Quadro 5000, about US$2500
    3) "Mac Edition" cards -- REQUIRE 10.8.3 or later:
    • SAPPHIRE HD 7950 3GB GDDR5 MAC Edition, about US$480** Vendor recommends Mac Pro 4,1
    • EVGA GTX 680 Mac Edition, about US$600
The cards above require no more than the provided two 6-pin aux power connectors provided in the Mac Pro through 2012 model. Aux cables may not be provided for third-party cards, but are readily available.
If you are Meet ALL of these:
    • running 10.8.3 or later AND
    • don't care about "no boot screens" etc AND
    • can re-wire or otherwise "work out" the power cabling, THEN:
You can use many more cards, even most "PC-only cards"

  • StorEdge 3310 RAID hung.

During the billing run on a Sun Fire V440, the attached 3310 hung. Reboots of the server did nothing to improve the situation, but once the RAID was powercycled everything was alright again.

    [repeat]
The question is whether or not to upgrade the firmware. Since the current firmware is so old (version 3.x) there seems to be special instructions to bring it to 4.x, and eventually 4.15G. Which would include OS patches as well. (117171-12).
Or, just carry on, since this has only happened once (during the last billing run) in the last 9 runs/months.

  • StorEdge 3310 Slowness and "Memory Not Sufficient" Error

    Hello,
I have a 3310 single-controller array who's LUN inexplicably became incredibly lethargic a couple of days ago. I checked the controller's event log and have the following message: "Controller WARNING: memory not sufficient to fully support current configuration". And it takes several minutes to perform any inquiry within sccli.
I found a Sun Doc 201253 that referenced Bug ID 6382051 for the 3510 with pre-4.21 firmware, but nothing that spoke of the 3310. I even followed the instructions from that Doc and disabled FTP, but nothing changed. The 3310's firmware is completely up to date (done last summer). This is on a high-usage system so we're still discussing the scheduling for a controller reset (to clarify -- NO reset/reboot has been attempted yet), but I wanted to see if anyone has any ideas or has seen this before? Thanks!
    - Dion

    Start at the beginning..
At the obp prompt do you see the array and all disks via a probe-scsi-all?
If yes, then the hardware would appear to be ok.
At the OS, are the additional logical devices being created review via devsfadm -c disks; devfsadm -al
Is the qus driver loaded, via modinfo
Is the qus patch loaded via showrev -p |grep patchid
Does the scsi loop, ie. cable lenght comply with SCSi loop rules > less than 10m I think
Is it JBOD array or do you have raid controllers, if raid controllers have you physically configured the Luns on the array?
Is it a single loop configuration, if so have you got the loop cable to connect one half of the array to the other?
If the answer is yes to all then format should be correct.

  • SAP NW 7.0 AS JAVA Application Server Installation in DMZ : Win 2008 SR2

    Dear Experts,
We are installing two AS JAVA application servers in DMZ (XYZ domain) and the central instance is running outside DMZ (ABC domain). While trying to give the profile path of the CI, in the application server installation, it says that the path cannot be found. We have opened the following ports 54200,54201,54204,54218,54230,3342,3641,3310,3610,8010,8011, and 25.  The installation inside DMZ is run with a user which is part of local administration group. The DB (SQL 2008R2)is running on a different host in a distributed setup.
Could  someone please let us know if any other port needs to be open to allow communication between the central instance and application server?
    Help is appreciated.
    KP

If FileSharing disabled, Firewal is open, unable to do ping test. How does the poor App server can access the Path from CI ?
Please request your network team to open firewal between CI and APP server otherwise, even if you install you might get other below access problems
1). user's in App server can't update CI
2). Jobs in App server might run as expected.
    etc...

  • Can't boot OS after installation on TS200 with ServeRAID card

    Hi,
I have a Lenovo TS200 which I am having problems with.  It is fitted with a ServeRAID card and a single 2TB HD (configured as JBOD and set bootable).
After having installed Windows Server 2008 (which installs fine) it won't boot.  Basically it seems that the boot device can't be
found (so Windows doesn't even get to load).  Also I've had the same issue with WHS v2 so it's not specific to the OS.
BTW, during the installation of the OS I needed to add the drivers (via USB) for the ServeRAID card.
When I look in the BIOS boot settings I can see a new device that seems to have been automatically added by the installation
process.  I have tried all of the sensible boot options in the BIOS.
Another thing I have noticed is that during the continual boot cycle/loop I'm NOT seeing the Network Card or ServeRAID BIOS as I normally do as follows (as an example):
Initializing Intel(R) Boot Agent GE v1.3.27
    PXE 2.1 Build 086 (WfM 2.0)
Initializing Intel(R) Boot Agent GE v1.3.27
    PXE 2.1 Build 086 (WfM 2.0)
    LSI MegaRAID SAS-MFI BIOS
    Version 4.14.00 (Build Jan 29, 2010)
    Copyright(c) 2010 LSI Corporation
    HA -0 (Bus 26 Dev 0) ServeRAID M1015 SAS/SATA Controller
0 JBOD(s) found on the host adapter
    0 JBOD(s) handled by BIOS
0 Virtual Drive(s) found on the host adapter
0 Virtual Drive(s) handled by BIOS
Press <Ctrl><H> for WebBIOS or press <Ctrl><Y> for Preeboot CLI
I have tried setting the BIOS back to defaults but that's not helped.
    Any thoughts appreciated.
    Cheers Ian

Which RAID card do you have, and what's your HDD model/type?
And of course assuming uEFI and firmwares have been updated to the latest?

  • Mountain Lion installation fails at license agreement

I am running a Mac Mini with 10.6.8 OSx, with 4 GB of Ram, 2.07GB of which is free space.  I have been having sluggish performance, and even after using Time Machine to Backup my hard drive to an external hard drive, and subsequently removing all my music, movies etc from my computer and freeing over 250 GB, it is still very sluggish.
When I tried to download Mountain Lion from the Apps Store I ran into issues.  It would freeze and get stuck on the spinning wheel, wherein I'd force quit the download.  I performed disk permission repairs many times, and finally got it to download.  Now when I am running the installation, every time I get to the Software License Agreement window, the installation fails and more spinning wheels.
I only have one external hard drive and DO NOT want to erase all my files as I have nowhere else to transfer them to in order to create a bootable drive.  What are my options, it is a little ridiculous how it has taken me several days worth of attempts and gotten nowhere.
Could it be that I need more RAM?  As stated earlier, I have 4GB of total space, with 2.07 GB free.  I understand the OSx is 4.7GB, does this mean I need to upgrade my RAM as well.  From what I understand my friend has the same Mac Mini but with a 2GB RAM space and was able to install it without issues so I am at a loss for ideas.  Help me Obi Wan Kenobis...

I do not have the Installation DVD.  I bought my mac mini off of Craigslist and it did not come with the disks.  As far as I am aware, I am unable to reinstall the OSX without the installation DVD.  If I am mistaken I would appreciate some help on how to to reinstall it.
I did delete the ML installation file and downloaded it again, but am experiencing the same error.  This is the detailed report I get which seems to be a language identifier issue:

I had the same exact issue on a V880 with a flar made on a V890. I solved this after trying about 10 different things. For my solution to work, your situation will have to match mine. So I will ask, did you have MPXIO enabled on your V880 when you made a flar of it? If so, we are in business.

  • Looking for the right KVM drawer and switch for SUN Fire v240 and v880

    Hi,
We have Sun Fire v240, v880, and four dell servers in a Shark Rack. The LCD monitor and keyboard drawer and the KVM switch were part of the original installation from Shark Rack. The switch and the monitor stop responding from time to time so I am looking for a replacement.
I am surprised that the prices for the KVM drawer are very different from different manufactures. I was just wondering whether I really need a SUN ready certified KVM drawer. If anyone has any experiences(good or bad) with getting a new KVM, please share it with me.
If the KMV drawer is compatible with SUN systems, do I need to install any patch on the system or it's simply plug and play?
    Thanks!

For most SPARC based Sun Servers you do not need a KVM switch, but merely a terminal switch which you can attach to the console port of the Sun Server. There are plenty of Terminal Servers to choose from, the most recent i bought was a Cyclade, which works very well and allows you to ssh to a console..
