333Mhz IMac reporting wrong RAM

Hello,
I have a purple (grape? blueberry?) 333Mhz iMac running Panther and 9.2.2. I mainly use it as a jukebox, but I have been toying with it lately, and thought about upgrading the memory. It had two 128Mb sticks. I bought two 256Mb sticks very cheap, and did the swap.
Now the iMac is definitely snappier, but it still reports two 128Mb sticks under both operating systems. What's wrong with this picture?
I also found that the motherboard says Rev.A, although it should be Rev.D. Could it be a revision A updated with a revision D processor?
Any feedback on this will be appreciated.
Peace.

You can put a 333 MHz CPU card on a Rev. A motherboard. The Rev. A and B motherboards also have the mezzanine slot on the back side that were removed with the Rev. C and D, so that's one way to visually check. Also, the Rev. A had ATI Rage IIc. The later ones had ATI Rage Pro or ATI Rage Pro Turbo. The Rev. A only had 2mb of VRAM, but that is upgradable to 6mb like the later tray-loader iMacs.
I've heard some tray-loaders will only recognize 128mb of RAM in each slot. Apple only specified up to 128mb in each slot, but they can usually see 256mb each. Mine sees 256mb in each slot.

  • Installing OS onto 333Mhz iMacs

Hello, it's been a year or so since I last used this forum. I know this question has probably been asked before, but I am in need of an answer quite quickly and I know this is the right place to come to.
As the part-time Mac tech in our school, I get the task of making the Macs run smoothly. With all the financial crunches in the schools nowadays, we just inherited a dozen 333Mhz iMacs for our school. My problem is that while they all do start up, all must have an OS re-installed on them. They start up with the "?"
I would like to install OS 9.2.2 onto them, as we have the legal install disks at the school. Here's the catch. None of them have functioning CD drives, and none have firewire ports. Is it possible to install the OS via a network connection or from a disk image?
Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

All of the computers boot to the "?" on the folder, probably indicating they can't find an operating system. It would be time consuming to open each one up to replace or repair each individual optical drive. Not to mention the cost versus practicality of doing so with these machines.
You need to make a master machine and clone things from there. The only possible way around opening up the machine is to do a network boot. You would have to figure out the way of setting up the network server. I assume the 333 can do a network boot.
The other thing is that I have limited resources at our elementary school for a full scale tear-down. Our new tech support guy is not great with Macs, but is more of a PC tech. I was hoping that there was a quick fix to my problem other than to open each one up.
The hardware skills are the same. Perhaps you can convince him to deal with the hardware and you the software.
What you need to do is create a master copy of the software then copy it to all the other harddrives.
In case you should try a machine with Mac OS X, you should verify that you have the latest firmware, before installing new software. See the system profiler for details. What firmware do you need?

You may run Mac OS 10.3 on this machine.
Mac OS X takes about 4gig. With a custom setup, you can reduce this to 3gig.
For X, you will need a minimum of 128meg of ram. More is better. I'd suggest 256. You may put 512meg of ram in this machine. There are two memory slots. One must be Low Profile memory. Be sure you can return your memory cards. iMac memory cards are finicky.

All the tray loading iMac g3's, models a-d, are constructed the same. The 333 is the model d.
Here is a good disassembly page:

The tray loading iMac requires the boot partition to be within 8gig. Since there are hidden partition before the first visible partition, people recommend that you make the first visible partition 7.5 gig to 7.9gig. The machines support upto a 128gig Parallel ATA drive.
You should be able to use Unix symbolic links to 'move' some directory like /Users to the second visible partition.

When I send a photo directly from iPhoto using the Mail app on my iMac, the wrong photo appears on my iPad2 Mail app.  However the correct photo shows if I log into gmail on the iPad2.  I assume there is a glitch with my "Mail" app on the iPad2?  Any suggestions for getting the correct photo to show on iPad2?

Update:  I was able to have the correct photo show in my email as received on my iPad2 by changing a setting on my IMac prior to sending the photo on the email.
On the iMac, I went into iPhoto > Preferences > Email photos using > Mail (in lieu of "iPhoto").  This seems to have corrected the issue.  I'm not sure why.  Now the correct photo shows up when received on my iPad2.

  • Add on XL reporter : Wrong executable digital signature for Add on

    Hi Experts,
I have a client who gets this error 'Add on XL reporter : Wrong executable digital signature for Add on' when they try to login. They are on 2007A PL45. This happens on the server as well as on clients. Uninstalll and reinstall of client didn't work.  We had a look at the AddonLocalRegistration folder to see if XL reporter is registered but can't see any.
I have found a similar link in the forum but that says about 2005b.
    Any help will be appreciated.
    regards

    Sir,
Please do the following steps :
    1. Please go to the SBO-COMMON database, find table SARI, you will get
the data entry for your Addon. Please check the value of field
"AddOnChk". This is the digital signature of Addon executable file.
    2. Then go to installer package of the Addon, open the ard file
(XLReporter.ard) with notepad then check the value of "addonsig".
    3. Compare these two values, if they are different, please overwrite
"AddOnChk" field in database with the value of "addonsig" in ard file.
and then try to start the addon again.
    4. If there are the same, the ard file or the executable file has been
corrupted. I would like to suggest you remove the installer package
from your machine, and download a fresh installer of Addon from SAP
Service Marketplace. After that, please follow the steps as per the
attached note ( Note no. 819501 ) to make your machine clean and
    then install the addon again.

  • Can my iMac g5 2gb ram intel core 2 duo 2.16 ghz processor support OSX 10.6?

I am looking to upgrade for needs of music production. I need help to figure out if my computer iMac g5 2gb RAM and an intel core 2 duo processor 2.16ghz can handle it?

"Mutually exclusive," meaning one can't exist at the same time as the other.  If you have an Intel Mac, you don't have a G5 iMac. A G5 is PPC (Power PC) and can't install Snow Leopard.
But I'd max out the RAM. 2GB is bare bones and you won't go very far with that, especially if you're going to be running some memory consuming music production applications.

  • IMac 20", 2Gb Ram, 256Mb GPU

    Nooooo 4 days... harsh!
Just bought a new 20" iMac with 2Gb Ram and the 256Mb GPU.
Has anyone else got this configuration? How is it?
I only use native Apps so it should be sweet!
      Mac OS X (10.4.4)

I have the same exact setup...it is SWEET! I upgraded from a 17" G4 iMac (1.25Ghz/1GB RAM) WOW...what a difference. You are totally going to love this machine. Even if you do dabble with some non native apps, I have found all of them to run faster than they did on my old machine, so it is still way faster for me overall.

  • Mixing iMac/MacBook Pro RAM

Is it possible to take 1 GB of my iMac Core Duo RAM and add it to the existing 1 GB in a MacBook Pro? Basically, are the RAM modules identical? Thank you for your help.
    iMac (Intel) 2.0 2GB 256MB   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    No, they're different sizes.
I don't believe that is correct. It was true that earlier PPC-based iMac models used different RAM than their laptop counterparts, but it appears that the MBP and Intel iMac share the same motherboard design right down to the RAM slots.
It is possible that there's physically less space in the MBP and that it mandates a smaller profile, but I don't believe that's the case. Certainly the price and specifications from the online vendors I've checked are identical for the two systems.

Try to boot in Safe mode, see if you are able: Hold down shift and then power on. For wireless keyboards, hold down shift after the chime.

Does someone know if are available the same corrections for my SAP FF Rel.?
    Thanks in advance,
    Claudio Orsi

    Hi Claudio,
Not sure if this helps any....
We recently upgraded FF 5.2 (520_620) to current SP levels and experienced some issues with the reporting feature
We utilize the reports through the NetWeaver interface and were not receiving correct results; this happened after we went from SP 3 to SP 4
We have backed out the SP4 level to get back to "what was working"; we have an issue opened with SAP and they have identified our experience as a bug and plan on a fix with the next release scheduled for end of June
Are you experiencing report issues using the NetWeaver interface or the backend report tools? What is the SP level you are at?
This information on our experience may or may not be helpfull but anything can be of some value as long as it is mentioned

  • How Much RAM can I stuff into a 333MHz iMac?

The way I read the specs for the 333 MHz model, 128 MB is the max. RAM I can put in. Is that correct? What type of RAM am I looking for and who is a good source. There appears to be 32 MB installed.
I want to upgrade to OS 10.2 which apparently requires 128 MB of RAM. I think I need to do a firmware update first - to 1.2 - right? This iMac has CD-ROM tray in the front that pops out when you push a button. That's not what they are calling a slot-loading iMac is it? I'm not at all familiar with these older machines. My sister-in-law donated it for my kids use.
    Thanks for your help

    W.werker,
Niel is right. There are some exceptions as noted here:
    http://lowendmac.com/imacs/rev-d-imac-g3-333-mhz.html
"RAM: 32 MB, expandable to 384 MB using SO-DIMM SDRAM (3.3V, unbuffered, 64-bit, 144-pin, 100 MHz or faster, 10ns) in two DIMM sockets (256 MB on top, 128 MB on bottom), top DIMM socket accepts 2" DIMM, bottom socket takes 1.5" DIMM
    * The exact amount a Rev. A-D iMac can be upgraded varies from unit to unit. We have field reports of some models accepting 256 MB modules in both memory socket and reaching 512 MB - and other reports of early iMacs that won't work at all with 256 MB modules. There appears to be no way to know in advance whether a particular iMac will work with a certain sized memory module."
I actually had one that would take a 512 module in the top position. It wouldn't work in any other machine.

  • 27" imac i7 16GB RAM mid-2010 turns off randomly

I've done a lot of reading on the existing posts, and so far no real solutions except for removing RAM. I have 27" imac with APPLE-INSTALLED 16GB RAM. It is a mid-2010 imac model 11,3.
The random shutdowns don't seem to correlate to particular apps or usage. They started a few weeks ago with shutdowns once in a week or so, and now are happening about 3 times a day.
    What I've tried so far:
    - installed istatpro temperature dashboard thing & smcFanControl. I've been monitoring HD and CPU temps and turning up the fans to keep CPU under 110 degrees F. Did not fix it.
    - reset SMC; did not fix it.
    - zapped PRAM; did not fix it.
I see from other threads that others are having the same problem. The next thing I am going to try is removing RAM. I'll report back in the next few days what I discover.

It's a new machine and still under warranty. Why are you bothering to play with it? Get straight onto Apple and take it back before you do something that voids your warranty.

  • Bios reporting wrong value memory

I am still running on my old AMD Athlon XP 1800+ on MS-6330 Motherboard.
    I have 3 RAM slots: 512kb, 128kb, 512kb. (max allowed 1.5gb).
I have S.I.W. (Systems Information for Windows) installed that reports this as correct. However, since reinstalling XP following a drive failure, S.I.W. now reports that BIOS is reporting the wrong value; i.e. total 512kb only.
My question is; Is this a hiccup in BIOS or SIW?
Has anyone had a similar experience please?

how much the bios counts during bios post?
