3560 PoE and 3560

hello
i have an enhanced image running on 3560PoE switch for dynamic routing. can i copy this image to 3560 switch which is not a PoE switch.
is there a different ios image for poe switches

Hi
No there is not a separate IOS image for PoE so memory and flash considerations aside you should have no problem with this.

  • WAP4410N PoE (and other) Problems

    Hi!
I own two WAP4410N-E V02 Access Points and I am (too) experiencing loads of problems even after upgrading both to the BETA Software Version 2.0.5.2
As most other users keep reporting, the router, for no apparent reason, will stop allowing connections after a given amount of time. The maximum I got my AP to stay "working" was for almost 19.5 hours!!! Several of £9.99 Netgear DG384G have stayed connected for YEARS without a SINGLE failure!!!
The MOST annoying problem I have is that my WAP4410N-E V02 Access Point is NOT working with PoE and I am having the exact same problem as described on here: https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/2122117 and my PoE is NOT a "green" PoE EEE (Energy-efficiet Ethernet) 802.3az PoE, just in case Cisco support try to blame the PoE!
And before you ask, my PoE Switch is fully IEEE 802.3af (Power over  Ethernet) compatible and delivers up to 12.5 Watts per port where the WAP4410N-E V02 has a Max power draw of 10.1W....
    1) With cable connected in Wireless AP connect other end of cable to PoE switch
    2)  POE indicated lights up on Wireless AP, followed by Yellow (right  hand-side) LED on switch port and POWER lights up on wireless AP
    3) Green (left hand-side) LED on switch port blinks together with ETHERNET light on Wireless AP
    4) POWER on Wireless AP blinks followed by ETHERNET on Wireless AP
    5) WIRELESS on Wireless AP lights up
    6) Suddenly all LEDs on Wireless switch off and POE dims to off followed by LEDs on swtich port
    7) the above will start all over again!!!
The same PoE switch successfuly delivers PoE to other PoE devices including one device with higher demands than the Cisco AP!
The SAME problem happens even if I disconnect all other devices and the PoE switch has up to 38.5 Watts available!!!
Also to point out that after a factory reset the AP gets an IP address of 192.168.1.245, but NO other network info via DHCP so the only way to configure it is to directly connect it to a PC! This is just unacceptable!
I am deeply unhappy with this product and the amounts of hours I have spent configuring it, testing it, re-booting it, upgrading it etc etc
I have never had a single problem like this with any of my netgear products and cisco supposed to be better and it is more expensive!
So why are we paying the extra money for? The name? Because is not for the quality for sure!!!!
I will NEVER EVER not only buy another single Cisco product, but as an IT Consultant, I will NEVER, EVER sugest CISCO for ANYHTING, except if Cisco admits that this product was a total failure and agrees to replace it straight away with another (hopefully more tested) product!
In here I can see nothing but problems (and exaclty the same problems may I add) with everyone! And all Cisco is trying to do is blame others like "it is the fault of the "PoE" switch, "have you checked this" or "have you checked that"
Come on Cisco! Admit that the product was a failure and agree to replace it for eveyone that was unluky enough to buy it! At the end of the day, most of us are IT specialists that have better things to spend their billable hours on than trying to resolve problems on a product that was a total failure!
If Cisco support wants me to spend more hours to try silly suggestions, usless firmware and try to blame other equipment that works well with ALL OTHER probucts connected to it EXCEPT the WAP4410N, I have no problem with that, but please give me your billing address so I can charge you my wasted hours on testing your product directly. I have no problem with that.
I will exept nothing else than replacement with a better product with similar feautures! Not more waiting for a year at a time for firmware updates that do NOTHING!
    George, London, UK.

    Hello ry:
See my suggestion above (archive and install). I would not spend anymore time with arcane UNIX commands - they are not, IMHO, going to fix anuything. An archive and install will install a fresh OS X while, at the samne time, preserving files, programs, and settings. You will, of course, need to run software update after the A&I. It is always good practice to back up before any software update.

  • Which switch for POE and 7940G phones?

I have 2 (and maybe soon 5 more) 7940G phones to add to my network, which already has a Netgear POE capable switch. I've since discovered that early Cisco POE isn't the same thing as current POE, and the switch doesn't power the phones.
I was looking at adding a Cisco SD208P 8-port switch to power the phones, but I soon discovered it only has 4 POE ports, and I'm not sure that this switch will even power the 7940G phones. And if the other 5 phones show up, I'll need two of those switches with no room for expansion on the voice network.
Will this switch power those phones?
Is there another small switch available so I don't have to replace my existing switch infrastructure to get these phones to work? Or do I need to scrap the phones and get something newer that will work with the current POE standards?

    Will,
I would look at the ESW520 8 port switch, it will power the phones and will have the "*" VLAN's already setup in them.
Side note "*": This assumes that you are using VLAN100 and Cisco Voice system for the switch

  • POE and 1131's

We are just starting to switch over from the 1010's to the 1131's and are curious about the AP. How many can one put on a POE switch(3560) without an injector? Do people prefer using the injectors over the POE since the 1131's use 12 W? I know they come Lwapp, so when they are installed how does one get them to talk to the WCS without using the DNS? I have a test one and used the Lwapp ap command to just send it to the controller of choice. Is there an easier way?
    Thanks tons,
    Jeff

    Hi,
Power: depends on your switch model of course, as you say the AP takes 12 W. I use PoE whenever I can, it's easier to deploy than RJ45 + power.
The APs talk to the WLC, Wireless LAN Controller, not the WCS (Wireless Control System). An easy way is to use DHCP option 43, see here http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/wireless/airo1000/1000hig3/1000h_f.htm .

  • RPS 2300 together with 3750 - 48 PoE and Cisco 2821

    Hi,
I'm wondering what kind of power modules to include in RPS 2300 (750 or 1150 Watt) to provide redundant power supply for 1 x Cisco 2821 router (standart power supply) and Catalyst 3750 with PoE 48 ports.
    Thanks

I am not qualified to answer your question... I would like to mention to be careful when calculating power for phones, because some of the phones (especially color) will take more power than others. We ended up only being able to support 24-ish phones on a 3750 due to power limitations.

  • PoE and Non PoE

    Hi all,
Just want to ask if it is possible to connect a cisco PoE switch to a cisco Non PoE switch?
The core switch will be a cisco Non PoE switch while the connected switch is a cisco PoE switch.
    thank you....

Is there will be no problem encountered with it?
Just want to be sure because we plan to have and implement it.
Another is there an option to disable it's PoE?
    thank you

  • SD208P PoE and Pre-Standard Cisco IP Phones (eg. 7960)

Well, I've been learning the eccentricities of Cisco's product lines the hard way!  Here's my situation:
I've taken over for an office that has a hosted Cisco IP phone system using a variety of what seem to be older Cisco phones (the one at my desk is a 7960) these are normally powered by the PoE that gets delivered by some Cisco Catalyst 3750X switches.  Our office has grown to the point where we've had to place a few people into some semi-jury rigged seats in areas with limited network drops.  As a result I need to do something creative to get phones over there.
I first went out and purchased a small 8 port switch with 4 PoE ports on it from a competitor and this was where I discovered that the models of Cisco phones I had needed something generally referred to as Cisco Pre-Standard PoE (or some variation on that theme).  I returned the switch and after doing some research decided to buy a Cisco SD208P switch, which a few messages out on the Interwebs led me to believe should be able to power the switch (possibly a firmware upgrade would be needed).
So I got the switch today, and plugged my phone into it and... nothing.  No signs of life on the phone.  (And nothing as simple as plugging it into one of the non-PoE ports on the switch).  I went online to try and find a firmware update, and couldn't find anything.  It's also an unmanaged switch, so I'm not even sure how I'd update firmware on it if I wanted to (and there's nothing in the manual).
I went back and double-checked some of  the sources that may have led me to believe that this would work and I found what turned out to mostly be people recommending this as a possible option, but not strictly saying it worked for them.  I found one person saying it worked for some Cisco phones, but he didn't specifically say they were prestandard ones.  Lastly, there is mention of 200 and 300 series switches being firmware upgradable to support prestandard PoE, but from looking around Cisco's site I'm not 100% sure that this switch is actually part of the 200 series despite the number in the name.  It seems to show up in a Small Business Unmanaged Switch category online rather than in any proper series.
So, the question is - have I just missed something somewhere?  Is there any hope for me?  Or do I have to send this back and go for something else?  If so, what's recommended?  Perferably something in that price range or we might just give in and... gasp... buy power supplies.
    Thanks,
    Chris.

    Hi Chris,
The SD208P is an unmanaged switch that does not have any web interface and you will not be able to upgrade firmwares on this switch. The unmanaged switch that you have gotten will only support 802.3af POE standard and does not support the Cisco pre-standard. Also, you did mention the 200 and 300 series switches which are managed switches and with the latest firmware of 1.1.2.0, you will be able to power up your 7960 phones. The models are called SF200, SF300, SG200, and SG300. Please make sure to get the models with the letter "P" for POE. For example, you can get the SF300-24P. I hope this information is helpful.
    Thanks,

  • 300 Series POE and legacy devices

    Greetings;
I convinced the powers that control my paycheck to stick with Cisco for small POE switch deployment.  Yay!
So, I opened up my shiny new piece of hardware (a SF302-08MP aka SRW208MP-K9-NA), plugged in a Cisco 1230 and an 1121 AP AND... nothing.
I thought to myself, looks like Cisco is following the 802.af standard.  I grabbed my crimper, swapped pins 4 and 5 with 7 and 8, and... nothing... again...
Now, the whole reason I pressed so hard for this equipment is that I wanted to be certain that our Cisco devices would be supported.  The weird part is that an older Linksys (by Cisco or whatever) POE switch works just fine.
Knowing that there are two types of 802.af (one that delivers power via pins 1,2,3, and 6, and the other 4,5,7, and 8), it does not make sense that a switch (especially a Cisco switch) that says it complies with 802.af, would only comply with one type (I'm pretty sure the standard requires both).
Do I have a faulty switch, or an unhealthy attachment to a company that I adore?

Hi, My name is Eric Moyers. I am a Network Support Engineer in the Cisco Small Business Support Center.
Currently there is no testing from Cisco to certify the use of any third party PoE adapters or extenders with any of our Small Business Equipment like the SF300 switches. While there are several out in the market, while using third party equipment that has not been certified can potentially work, they have an equal chance of not working or damaging equipment. Before using such devices I would make sure that they will replace any equipment that is damaged from the use of their products, because Cisco may not depending on the circumstances.
I am by no means saying that customers can not use third party equipment. I just want all of our customers to have all of the information.

  • PoE and the WAP4410N - need a recommendation...

Looking for a Cisco, low-cost power injector solution to push the WAP4410N. Network is all cat6 and the AP is 100ft away...
    Thanks, Mark
I'm long on Cisco - I believe in the future...

Hi, My name is Eric Moyers. I am a Network Support Engineer in the Cisco Small Business Support Center. Currently there are no PoE injectors that are certified to work with any of the Small Business Access Points. The current recommendation is to purchase a small unmanaged switch, similar to the SD208P.
Cisco does recognize that this is a need of our customers and we are currently developing one specifically for these devices, Sunfortunately there is no known timeline for when this will be available.
There are some currently available through Cisco Enterprise and other 3rd party vendors, however we can not guarantee that they will work or not damage your unit.
I hope that this answers your question. Please let me know if I can provide any further assistance.

  • Problem with switch SG300-28P Poe and Avaya 1408 telephone

    Hi Team
We have a model SG300-28P Switch 28-Port Gigabit PoE Managed Switch, in every port we are allowing the voice VLAN and data VLAN (trunk), happens to be off this type of phone, we reconnect the cable and port the switch is dropped, so that the voice vlan phone is lost and no longer work.
    Thanks for your comments.
    Regards

Hi Yesenia, did you contact Avaya support? Did you configure the phone for a voice and data vlan?
I'm trying to dig through the Avaya website and looking at the fact sheet and user guide it has no mention of VLAN.
Is the switch supported for the usage of Avaya Aura Communication Manager call processing system?

  • SG-300 52p POE and the case of Native vlan forgotten on a Port-channel

    Hi
We have recently changed our access switched to Cisco Small Business SG-300 52p on which is working firmware
    SW version    1.3.5.58
We found out a very annoying problem on Port-channel and default vlan topic.
Our switch have a default vlan diffrent to the vlan 1 that depends on the floor they are, and this native vlan is at first defined on the portchannel of our central switch, a Cisco 3750
Example of a central switch port-channel with a define native vlan:
    interface Port-channel2
    description TO 1F
    switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
    switchport trunk native vlan 6
    switchport trunk allowed vlan 4-6,11,13
    switchport mode trunk
on the SG300 side the configuration is this:
    interface Port-channel2
    description 1F
switchport trunk allowed vlan add 4-5,11,13
    !next command is internal.
    macro auto smartport dynamic_type switch
As you can see there is no "switchport trunk native vlan 6" simply because the SG300 once i write it on the command line, it accepts the command but the command sentence is not written on the conf (why?!)
the result is that everytime the SG300 is restarted on the port-channel i got two AUTO CREATED commands on the configuration "
    switchport trunk native vlan 1
    switchport default-vlan tagged
that let not work the network on that floor until i manually write on the SG300
    no switchport default-vlan tagged
    switchport trunk native vlan 6
These command, as said, works once i write them but are not viewed on a "sh run" and so saved on the conf so every time SG 300 is restarted i need to re-write them.
    Is this a bug?
    have i made some mistake?
    Please let me know
    regards
    Pietro

    Figure out!
the problem was on macro i have to write this:
macro auto processing type switch disabled
and then everything starts going as it should be

  • MSI 975X Platinum POE and 6-pin power connection

    Hi,
I have seen a number of topics somewhat related to my problem, but I am still unsure.
I have an MSI 975X Platinum PowerUp Edition main board, and I recently bought a NorthQ 4775-500S power supply to replace my current Hiper HPU-4M580. A good PSU, but too noisy for my taste.
Anyway, when installing the NorthQ PSU, I noticed that it has a 6-pin connector, I think it is a PCI-e connector. The main board, however, has an 8-pin connector, called JPW in the manual:
"The JPW 12V power connector is used to provide power to the CPU"
The 6-pin plug from the PSU seems to fit nicely in the 8-pin connector. After reading some other posts, I started to remember that 4 pins of the JPW connector were indeed blocked by a removable plastic chip, which I did remove to make room for the 8-pin plug from my previous PSU.
So, I think I can use the 6-pin plug in the 8-pin socket, but I want to ask you guys first; Will this be correct and safe, or should I get a 6-pin to 8-pin adapter, or even a 6-pin to 4-pin adapter?
    Thanks in advance!

"The 6-pin plug from the PSU seems to fit nicely in the 8-pin connector"
    No don't do that.
If your PSU don't have 8pin power cable for the CPU, use the 4pin power cable instead:
But do NOT connect PCI-E power cable(6 pin) in CPU power socket.

  • 3560 Poe switch help needed.

Bought a 3560 poe and its currently running base ip services.
    c3560-ipbasek9-mz.122-44
Was asked to download the latest version of Advanced ip services.
Problem is i cant find the the advanced ip services in the latest release section. 12.2.55 Se8 ?
All i see there is IP base and Ip services.
Was "advanced ip services" image replaced by "ip services" image in the lastest releases ? older releases still have a "advanced ip services" image...
    Thanks

I dont think i did anything wrong . please correct me if im wrong . i downloaded 122 .44 of the advanced ip services set but havent even put it on the switch yet. its an old ios version and it doesnt require any contract or anything to download. I got it from the official cisco web page. It does everything i need it to do so .... did i do something wrong ? should i not use this image ? Im not selling anything or makin money im just studying for ccnp switch ... finished my ccna couple of months ago...
    Please let me know.

  • Recommended IOS Image for 3560's

Does anyone know the what the most stable image for the 3560's is?
Is there a difference depending on the model as well? I have four different models, 3560G-24TS-S, 3560G-24TS-E, 3560-24PS-S, 3560-48TS-S.
All my S versions will only have VLANs configured w/QoS on the PS switches for VoIP. The E versions will be running OSPF, HSRP, VRFs, and QoS for VoIP.
    Thanks, Daniel

    Hi
These are the config models you have in place there in your site.
    Cisco Catalyst 3560-48TS
48 Ethernet 10/100 ports and 4 SFP ports
    Cisco Catalyst 3560-24PS
24 Ethernet 10/100 ports with Power over Ethernet (PoE) and 2 SFP ports
    Cisco Catalyst 3560G-24TS
24 Ethernet 10/100/1000 ports and 4 SFP ports
    Cisco Catalyst 3560G-24PS
24 Ethernet 10/100/1000 ports with PoE and 4 SFP ports
The word followed by the model name either E or S states that it has EMI(enhanced version) or SMI(standard version) loaded on that.

  • PoE for IP Phones and non PoE switches

Like everyone has already pointed out, a PoE device will need to be connected directly to a 802.3af compliant PoE switch. If you only have one jack for every workstation, then you will have to connect the phone to the wall/switch, and connect the computer to the phone. If you have separate data and voice vlans (like you should), 802.1q will need to be configured for the port as well.
PoE injectors are a great if you have them installed here and there, but if every port has one it will be a mess and PITA to work with since there will be double the Ethernet and as many power cords as you have injectors.
I stated 802.3af earlier because I've come across "PoE" devices (mainly from ubiquity) that still need an injector even though the switch is PoE.

I recently purchased a netgear PoE switch in order to power some IP phones we are going to implement into our office. The switch is with the router in our server room and I was wondering if power will continue through non poe switches. Each desk only has one ethernet port beside it and so in pretty much all our offices I have a 5 port switch so we can use multiple devices and printers and now these phones. Does anyone have any experience with PoE and dealing with non PoE switchs behind a PoE switch? much appreciated!
