3560g router, old 12.2 IOS - updating

So i have this older router which has probably never had the firmware updated.
Apparently the release is up to 15.x.x and I should update this firmware has we have some issues and I need to eliminate this as one of the possible causes.
Since I am going from a pretty old version, what is the best practice of getting up to date?
Do I go to the first release of that group (15.x.1) and then get to the latest version?
Or can I go straight to the newest release?
Other suggestions?

Most stable IOS for 3560/3750 is still 12.2(55)SE8.
The next stable IOS for 3560/3750 is 15.0(2)SE4.
Take note I said, "next stable".
All of my 2960/2960S are running 15.0(2)SE4, all my 3750/G/E/X are running 12.2(55)SE8. My 3560E/C are running 15.0(2)SE4.
I've given you the options, it's your call.
NOTE: Yes, my 3560E/C are running 15.0(2)SE4 because I can "get away with it". If you are risk averse, then no harm done when you run 12.2(55)SE8.

IPhone 4 downloading old mail after iOS update

I have the mail app set up to download my comcast email. I have it set not to delete messages from the server because I still want them to download into outlook on my home computer. I have had it set up this way since the original iPhone and never had a problem. Now after installing the new iOS, it is downloading all my old emails over again. How do I make it stop doing this? I have not changed any settings. I only installed the new iOS that came out when 4s was released.

The phone will still download the most recent emails from the server. The number of recent emails it will download is in Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendar > Show [50 or 100 or 200] Recent Messages.

What you need to do is temporarily set up your new 4. Just long enough to update the operating system. Then you can erase all content and settings - which puts it back to its out of box state, then set it up again, this time restoring it from the backup of your two.
So, using the same Apple ID on both - just to keep things easy - set up your 4. Just basically choose 'set up as new' to activate it, then immediately update the iOS to 7.1.2.

Then set it up again, this time choosing to 'restore from the backup' of your 2 and your 4 will be a near clone of your two.

IPod Touch 4G with 4.3.1 iOS update does NOT seem to work with WEP

I have a new wireless router (1 month old) with current firmware that I have set up with WEP (I know, not great but also have some older laptops that need it). Before the iPod iOS update, everything worked reliably all the time, but after the update "Unable to join the network XXXXXXXX" message was displayed. Post update, iPod works fine on other "public" networks.
So far the only workable solution I have been able to come up with is adding a 2nd unsecured SSID (router will support up to 4) with no broadcast and access limited to the iPod MAC address. If any of the WiFi experts here have other suggestions, I would sure welcome them. Thanks.

WEP and Apple products are only somewhat compatible - as you are finding out. If you create your own passwords, then you have to follow specific rules - 48 bit, 5 characters, 128 bit, 14 characters. Shorter or longer, the password won't work.
If you are stuck with WEP (I'd update the laptops with a USB wireless stick before I used WEP, but that's your decision) try the following:
1. Use the 128 bit setting
2. Either create a 14 character password or use WEP key 1 (that's the hex key) in place of your password on the touch.
You could set up a second wireless access point and, as long as it used a different SSID, setup to run WPA2-AES encryption. That would take care of your modern devices.

My iPod Touch is no longer charging since iOS update

Hi, so I have three iPod chargers, and as far as I know, they should both work perfectly fine. One is super old, I've had it since my first second generation iPod Nano, and one is practically brand new, I've had it for a few months. The new one and the middle one are both store bought chargers, non apple brand, and whenever I try to charge my iPod with these chargers, the same error message comes up, saying that charging is not supported with this accessory. All I can think is, they worked perfectly fine until the latest iOS update. Now, neither are charging my iPod, and I have to use my old iPod charger from my old Nano. This would all be fine if (a) that charger wasn't falling apart with electrical tape holding it together and (b) it wasn't shared with my mother. I was wondering if anyone else was experiencing this problem with store bought chargers. No way do both of these chargers just decide to stop working around the same time. I'm just wanting to know because I don't want to find out Apple created a new thingy in their update that stops non-apple accessories from working. (They already did that so that my car charger never worked with my new iPod).
Oh, and in case it matters, my iPod is the iPod Touch 4 (bought just a couple months before the iPod Touch 5 came out, so I think it's a 4s).

Does it charge on a computer? Does it appear in iTunes?

ITunes 10.6.1 Update button for iOS update does not work (a bug)

iTunes 10.6.1 Update button on iOS device Summary / Version page does not update devices. It only checks the iTunes version!
With iTunes 10.6.1, connect an iPad, iPhone, iPod running pre-6 iOS version.
On iPad Summary / Version page, next to [Update] button the message says:
"A newer version of the iPad software is available (version 6.0). To update your iPad with the latest software, click Update."
However, clicking the [Update] button will not start update iPad. Instead it gives you a dialog saying:
"This version of iTunes (10.6.1) is the current version".
Obviously it should start updating the i-device there but instead just goes and check the iTunes version ?!?
A Bug!
What's really annoying in this bug is that it's the only way to update pre iOS 5.x devices, which is now impossible!
Apple should get this fixed asap!
Anyone found any workarounds?

Just forgot to add, yes, I know there's iTunes 10.7 but it's only available on Snow Leopard and higher.
The machine in question is an old macbook, running Leopard (10.5.8), that it will propably never get upgraded.
Since most my older i-devices were initially synced with that particular machine, I'll be now stuck with iOS updates, without loosing content.

I did an icloud backup on my old 4S with iOS 8.3 and wanted to install on my new iPhone 6 but it only has iOS 8.1.3! Can I do/use the backup after I chose "install as new iPhone"?

Your iOS version is probably too old to support software update. You must update using iTunes on your computer.
Make sure your iTunes on the computer is current. Plug your iPhone into iTunes. Let it sync. Then choose "Check for Updates..." from the iPhone's summary tab in iTunes. That should od it for you.

Can't connect to wifi after IOS update. Do you know a solution?

Loaded the new update and now it is sporatic connections with the wi fi. I have unplugged the router and all that, still no luck. It will work normally very briefly, but only briefly after I unplug the router, etc.
Do any of you have a solution to fix this?

Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

Ios update and 4g

I just updated to the new IOS update released this morning which appears to still be 5.1 but a 5.1 build 9B176. What I noticed is that my AT&T iphone4s is now showing a 4g network instead of 3g. I didn't think the iphone4s is 4g compatible?

It depends heavily on the towers in your area and what is offered there. My old iPhone 3G and my wife's iPhone 4 top out at about 3.5 Mbps with the Speed Test app. My iPhone 4S in the same area (before and after the iOS 5.1 update) reaches 6.6 Mbps. But in another area, all three max at 3 Mbps.
The only real definition of "4G" is "whatever your carrier wants to label as 4G". 3G was the same way; there were a lot carriers calling their network 3G when all they had was an enhancement of GPRS (same technology as Edge).

Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.
