356mb back up in 12 hours!

Brand new 1TB TC. Has taken several days to get the thing working after the repeated "making back up disk available" message and then errors. Been through the trouble shooting tips step by step and searched on this forum. Last night (hallelujah!), it started to back up but ever so slowly. Let it run overnight and this morning it has reached 365mb after 12 hours! My back up is 95gb off an imac. It's connected via ethernet to my imac and I'm running a BT Homehub with average down speeds of 1mb. Question I guess is anyone else had experience of this and should I just let it run (now it's finally working). Thanks. ps for a £234 investment, it has been painful.

How was the Time Capsule configured? Did you set it up to create a network, or is it joining another network wirelessly? You should be able to confirm this from the wireless tab in the AirPort utility.
If it's joining a wireless network (which is highly discouraged) , then you are not going to have any benefit to connecting over ethernet (which is disabled in wireless client mode), as you are at the mercy of connection speed of your primary wireless router and it's link to the Time Capsule.
If this is the situation, then I would recommend setting the Time Capsule up to create a network, setting it up in bridge mode and hardwiring it to your main router and computer both.

  • My iPod has been backing up for an hour

My iTunes has been acting up a lot lately, and not letting my iPod connect. Now that it's conecting the backing up process has taken an hour, and it isn't done yet. It's been on step 2 of 7 for an hour now and I don't know how to speed it up, or what to do about it. It's never taken this long before, and I haven't dowloaded a bunch of new apps, and I haven't downloaded any new songs, since the last time it was backed up. Any help?

It shouldn't take this long.  Stop the sync.
    Close your iTunes,
    Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
    (Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
    netsh winsock reset
    Hit "ENTER" key
    Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes, Sync and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

  • 2.01 "backing up" now on hour number five

I typically cancel the 'backup' portion of a sync with my new iphone. But with the software update, it won't let me choose to cancel. Thus, I am on hour five of backing up. Still about 25% to go. Yes, I have a lot of apps. But five hours? That is cuckoo. It might even be stuck. Hard to tell cuz it's going so slow. Any ideas? I don't want to start over, but I might have to. Thx.

I was hoping that the back up time would be shorter as some of the reviews said that the time was 1/4 of the original with the new update. Having tried to back up after installing the update, it has been frozen after only 1/4 of the way along so I've had to cancel it again until I've got a whole day to let it run. The information box at the top is still the same and it is possible to cancel the back up by clicking on the x in the top right corner. If anyone hasn't got this in their box, there must be something wrong as it's the same as it ever was.

  • 10.5.2 - is TM now backing up Filevault files hourly?

I have a Parallels virtual disk and I want to use Time machine and Filevault.
Previously TM would only back up the contents of my Filevaulted home directory when I logged out. So, it seemed like a great solution to put the Parallels disk in my home directory where it would only get backed up when I logged out....as opposed to every hour doing 16GB.
With 10.5.2 it does back up the 16GB every hour even though it is in my home directory with Filevault. Is this a new "feature" that they quietly slipped in?
    Pity if so.

I'm having the same problem installing the Leopard Graphics Update on my Dual 2.5 G5. Installing 10.5.2 went fine, but afterwards the graphics update would fail to install, with the same error message you got. I tried both Software Update and downloading the standalone installer.
But wait, there's more! I also can no longer repair permissions using Disk Utility. I get the following message: "Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit." Booting from my Leopard install CD does allow me to fix permissions.
Lastly, my second internal hard drive is now also behaving oddly, Any time I try to drag a file to the Trash, I get a dialog box telling me: "The item "(file name)" will be deleted immediately. Are you sure you want to continue?"
I've run DiskWarrior from the CD and tried fsck in Single User mode (no errors found). Nothing seems to help
I had no problem updating to 10.5.2 on my MacBook, but the update to my desktop has been a real booger. Anyone who can offer any input, I'd sure appreciate it.

  • Time Machine not backing up/failed/skipping hourly backups

I had an issue with my mac after upgrading recently to Mavericks from Lion and took the machine to Apple who sorted out the problem. When I brought the computer home and reconnected everything, my Time Machine backup failed. After various attempts at fixing I decided the problem was the external HD and wiped the drive to redo a fresh backup of my system. Unfortunately this didn't fix the problem, so off to Apple again.
They checked drive and said it was OK, did a backup of my system in store and off I went. Have reconnected everything again and have now TM skips the hourly backup. I've also had backup fail again (firstly error 11, then error 2). I shut computer down and restarted machine and managed to do a manual backup, then the first hourly backup went OK, then it skipped again. I have managed to do a manual backup, but am now at my wits end. Not sure if my external HD is failing. I am running OSX 10.9.2 on imac G5.
Any help would be great as I'm a technophobe and am worried about messing with things I don't understand.

  • Why does the family locator sesson timed out and will not let you log back in for 24 hours?

Sometimes when I log into family locator it says session timed out and signs you out?  Than it makes you wait 24 hours or longer to log back in.

angery, Let's get your Family Locator sessions working properly! When this happens, have you tried closing and reopening your web browser? Are you signed into the Family Locator site as the Account Owner or Account Manager? The Family Locator app is also available on select mobile devices. Open the app store (e.g., Google Play , App Store , etc.) on your device and search for Verizon Family Locator. If the app appears in the search results, your device is compatible and you can download the app. This may be a great alternative to the Web Site. Please let us know which if you need further assistant.

  • I pod touch turns off. sometimes comes back on after several hours but keeps doing it again a day later.

my sons i pod touch started turning itself off wouldnt come back on took it back to shop were purchased they sent to apple after a month finally got it back wednesday. after 1 day its doing the same thing. sometimes if its left for several hours i can get it back on but it keeps happening after only a few hours of use. its up to date on software. hope someone can help because i think i shop will try and fob me off because typically it worked fine when they pluged it in to their system.  thanks in advance

Is the battery fully draining and is that why it is turning off?
    Otherwise try the standard fixes:
    - Reset,. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod
Then time for an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • I can't upgrade my ipad 1 to ios 4.3.  itunes prompts me to update but when i select, it won't install.  it backs up files for hours

    hi,
i am trying to update the ios from 4.2 to 4.3 for my ipad 1.  when on itunes it pormpts me to do so but after selecting "update" my ipad synchs for hours without updating the ios.  any thoughts?

You may have a corrupt backup. You can delete your backup and try again. Launch iTunes on your computer and go to Edit>Preferences>Devices. Find your iPad backup in the list, click on the backup name and then select delete backup. Then try to sync again.

  • My ipods been backing up for two hours is that normal?

my ipods been backin up for two hours now. and the screen hasmt changed or anything. im trying to updated my ipod. how long does it normally take?

Depends on size.  Usually about 2-5 minutes. Nome may take up to 20-30 if large storage space is being used.  Two hours is too long. Something is not right.m I feel an error message coming

  • Should a 5GB back-up take 3 hours to sync to an ipad with Apple Configurator

I'm setting up a cart of 22 iPads for my school.  I created an master and backup using Apple Configurator.  The size of the backup is between 5 and 6GB.  Had no issues creating the backup.  Supervised all the other iPads then began resorting them from the 5GB backup.  I'm on my 3rd hour of syncing.  Should it take this long?

It's quite possible.  I haven't run into your exact situation, but have regularly been syncing about 1 GB to anywhere from 12-60 iPads at a time.  And the major time difference seems to be related more to the amount of data that is being synced instead of how many devices.
With 1 GB it takes me about an hour.  So taking 3+ hours to sync 5 GB to 22 devices sounds reasonable to me.
