36 Hour Deep Sleep....forgets what track i am on

So I upgraded from a 4th Gen nano to the new 6th gen one. I use it mainly for listening to audiobooks when I run. The problem I seem to have is I don’t use my nano for 36 hours it goes into the deep sleep and then when I turn it back on it boot and looses the track I was playing. This seems to be new because on my 4th gen nano I could not use it for a week and when I started it up it would be on the same track that I listening to previously. Is this a new feature and just going to be the way it is?
Also please no one tell me about selecting the “remember playback position” option in itunes. This has nothing to do about remembering where in the track I am, but which of maybe 200 tracks I was last listening to.
Thanks in advance
Brian

Stephen Spark is right--"remember playback position" is only to remember the position within the track, not which specific track you're playing.
Unfortunately Apple has changed the behavior of the new nanos, so that if the nano goes into deep sleep or is turned off by the sleep timer, the next time you set it to play something it'll play a random track and not remember the last track you were on.
I posted about this in a different post, but I have the same problem as TimeKnight--although I use my nano frequently, if I set it to turn itself off with the sleep timer it won't remember which track is playing. Very unfortunate for use with audiobooks. And with the small screen, it can be frustrating to figure out which of several audiobook tracks I was listening to when the iPod shut itself off.
I'm very much hoping that Apple will come out with an updated firmware that will change this behavior to remember the last track played--at least if an audiobook track was the last track played. (This is how my 1st Gen Nano, my iPod classic and my 1st Gen Touch all work.)

  • Battery, Power, Deep Sleep and Spotlight problems after 10.9.4 update

Hi, I have a Macbook Pro 8,1 13in (Late 2011). I updated to the latest version of Mavericks (10.9.4) and iTunes on Sunday, right after that my macbook started to goes into Deep Sleep after closing the lid, even when the battery was 80% of charge. My battery normally lasts for almost 5 hours. After it went to deep sleep, the power bottom does not respond. Also, I have noticed that spotlight process in Monitor was consuming so huge amount of resources. This problem persists in Boot Camp. There is no way to turn the machine up without plugging it to the power cord. Sometimes it charges the battery as usual, sometimes it does not recognize the battery. Suddenly, the mac goes into sleep mode while I'm using it.
I have researching and troubleshooting in order to fix this but no solution. I have reset the PRAM and SMC. I made a backup of my files and installed Mavericks from the ground with external storage in order to erase the entire disk, no solution. I made an Internet Recovery and downgraded it to Lion, it worked for 2 hours and then I upgraded again to Mavericks (10.9.0) and the same problem came again, the upgraded to 10.9.4 and no solution at all.
I have searched on internet and there are other people experiencing this problem but nobody is able to bring a valid solution.

  • Macbook Pro Retina Mountain lion freezes after deep sleep

    Hello All,
I am having a strange problem with my MacBook Pro Retina, Mid 2012 (Mountain Lion 10.8.3). Since about January time It keeps crashing after I put it into a deep sleep. After closing the lid - waiting for 1 hour or so - then reopening the lid, i get presented with the normal Apple login screen (breifly) and then it crashes and i get a grey screen saying my mac has had an issue and it needs to restart.
When i log back on i get an error message that I can send onto Apple and then my Mac carries on as normal. Very weird.
I have searched these forums, been into the Apple store, spoken to Apple done hardware diagnostics, reinstalled the OS (worked breifly then stopped working again) - so i assume its one of the programs or bits of hardware that i use (which i have tried to isolate/remove)- but i am still strugling to solve these issues.
It would be great if someone could give me some advice around:
    1. Where I can find these log files/error messages, etc.
    2. Understanding what it is causing this issue.
    Thanks in advance.

The solution is to dump the 100€ mini-display port DVI-D adapter that apple sells and buy a mini-Display to Display-Port cable for 6€. No crashes, no annoying interruption of the display (which I had several times the day for 2 or 3 seconds). There are very short interruptions now, but it is much better than with the apple adapter. The apple adapter needs a USB port, which is not necessary with the simple cable.
As for the monitor: Burn In, otherwise great. The burn in can be erased via monitor menu but should not be there in the first place.
    Hope this helps.

  • Deep sleep/wake black flash problem of normal?

When my imac is coming out of a deep sleep such as an hour or more. When the screen wakes and the password screen comes on, it flashes off or black for a quick second then back to password screen. It does not do this during use or a quick sleep just coming out of a long sleep.
How do I fix this? Is this a major problem worth taking the imac to an apple specialist? Is it a hard drive failure.
Is this normal please help. Imac is a late 2012 27 inch model with fusion drive.

Hey there. I am having the same issue with the same computer. Sometimes my screen will stay black longer or flash multiple times as well. I have lugged it to an Apple store twice with video proof of the events happening and after multiple extensive testing the techs say they cannot find out what is causing it or reproduce the effect. For me, it does it when waking from sleep after at least 2 hours. I told them this but apparently it didn't do it in store. After much head scratching and frustration they told me they are going to replace the logic board and ram. No idea if it will work but I'd definitely contact Apple about your situation. If anything changes I'll try to post back here about it.

  • Qosmio X500-116 - goes into deep sleep

I have had the above computer since February 2010, and over the years I have had many problems. I have been inclined not to use it as each time it gives me problems.
Today I thought I would try to see if I can find a solution. I switched on after charging the battery for about an hour and it booted up in around a minute, not bad. I updated my Norton Internet Security, this completed and I checked my incoming emails and sorted them. I left it for about 10 min (had a quick coffee). on my return the screen was blank and I just can't get the screen to come on at all. This happens almost6 every time I try to use this computer.
The only was to get things going is to hold the start button down till the laptop shuts down. then press the button to start it, It then runs through all the loading of windows files after I select "Safe Mode" I have tried all the suggestion of options and never got anywhere. If I just select restart things go back to normal. I can log in and all seems ok. and I can do what ever I need t do.
I try to keep it active, If I leave it for any time it goes back into the unrecoverable sleep.
I have run Norton "Scan Now" on both hard drives, no problems found.
One a few occasions I have seen an odd coloured screen (multicolour) not what I would describe as a Blur screen. I did wonder if it could be a graphics card issue, perhaps not.
    Any suggestions?

Hi Ivan 25, thanks for your interest.
Currently I have the on battery setting:- Dim the display 1 min, Turn off display 2 min, Put the computer to sleep Never
    and
Plugged in to the mains: All NEVER.
I never run it to battery only it will go into a "deep sleep" and nothing apart from a Hard shut down will allow me get it up and running again.
Plugged in to the mains allows it to keep on with no problems.
To be honest since new this has been an issue since new, but it was not so bad in the early days. Hence my reluctance to use it very much.
Sorry I did not say, it's the screen that goes to sleep NOT the hard drive.

  • Imac won't wake from deep sleep

This just started a week ago- in the morning after my Imac has been asleep for a few hours, I will try to wake it by pressing the keyboard or mouse and nothing happens- powerswitch is unresponsive, I eventually have to unplug and replug to start it up. During the day it will sleep and awake normally, it just seems to happen after long periods of time. The only thing I can think of is recently there i installed an Itunes update, could this screw things up? I have a (pre intel) IMAC running OSX 10.3.9 -1.6ghz and 512MBSo far I did the following:
    1. ran hardware diagnostic test from CD (passed)
    2. Zapped pram (command-option, p and r during start-up)
    3. File system check (fsck -yf)
    4. Trashed powermanagement.plist preferences
    5. Deleted system cache and repaired disk permissions
    6. Reset open firmware ( reset-nvram, reset-all)
This morning I tried to wake up the imac and the same response, nothing. Sleep light pulsating, but when I touch the keys, there is no response, the imac seems to do into a deep sleep. I had to unplug and replug again. Is there anything else I can try?
This all seemed to start when I installed the latest security update and newest Itunes, could this be a connection? If so, is there anyway to uninstall these?
    Imac G5 (pre-intel)   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   1.6ghz/ 512MB

Henry, there are reports of problems occurring with updates, I don't think you can un-install the Security update, and as far as reverting to an earlier version of iTunes, well, you could try and extract an earlier version from your receipts folder, but I would hesitate to mess with iTunes, you might lose your entire library.
What I would recommend is an Archive and install, or perhaps an upgrade to Tiger.
Let me know what you do,
    Miriam

  • MBA goes into deep sleep on OSX, wakes up and boots Win7??

I recently picked up my new 11" MacBook Air (1.6, 4GB RAM, 128 GB HD) and because I'm graduated student, there are a few programs that I need to run under Windows 7. So I used boot camp to install a legit copy of Windows 7. That all went fine, so now i have a nice dual-boot MBA.
Here's the problem. I know that the new MBA models have a new sleep mode when you close the lid. there's a short-term sleep and a long-term sleep as far as i know. 90% of the time i'm in OSX (10% in Win7). When I close the lid for a short amount of time (up to an hour maybe?) and then open it back up again, it comes right up, no problem. But whenever its been closed for a longer period of time and I open it back up, instead of it OSX popping back up on the screen, it starts booting Windows!! VERY frustrating! What the heck is going on here?? This happens pretty much every time without fail and is very easy to replicate, you just have to wait the requisite hour or so until i know the MBA has gone into the deeper sleep mode.
Anyone else running Boot Camp and running into this problem?

    Hi kdolson,
Interesting issue you're experiencing. I have the new MBA as well, as well as several machines configured for Boot Camp, and none of them experience this issue. I've let my new MBA sleep for 10+ hours undisturbed and OSX fired right up. I'm wonder if something funky is up with the partition map on your HD.
What is set for your default startup volume, Windows or Mac? By default when you Boot Camp the machine and install the drivers/Boot Camp support files it sets the Boot Camp volume to be the default startup volume. I wonder if that's perhaps the issue. Regardless, this shouldn't happen (deep sleep the machine and have it wake to another boot volume)
It's probably worth reaching out to Apple on this.

  • I need help with the sleep or deep sleep modus

    hi
i if there is anybody how can speaks german he should contact me please. because my english is not so well.
    To my problem:
I have wone a Ipod. I'm do not agree with this product because it isn't so good i think. The first problem i have is that the battery isn't 20 hours( so it stands in the information). well i agree that some hours are left but my ipod does only have about 10 hours bevor he shot down ( i was fully loaded the first times). the ipod isn't full with music oder something about 15 gb are on it. is this normal that the battery is so bad?
the second problem i have is that the sleeping modus is to long. my brohter's ipod goes after 1 hour from the sleep modus( i call it screenscaver modus) to the deep sleep modus. this is normal i think because the ipod didn't need so much battery then. my ipod goes after 2 days or so in the deep sleep modus. this is to long because in the screensaver modus ( sleep modus) it takes so much battery?
so can anybody help me with this problems?????

In a server file structure, what you want is not accessing a flash page, it will access a folder called "aboutme" and then your server will load the default file of that server/host with the address you prefer.
    for example:
    http://yoursite.com/aboutme
If there is no other info, the server will likely load a file called index.html, default.html, or welcome.html if it exists, that resides in a folder named "aboutme" in the root. If the "home" page or default page of the url is named index, default etc. and the swf are in the root of the server then you could use a relative path to the swf anchor point, such as, http://yoursite.com/#about me because you are loading the swf by default anyway. Otherwise it will error, or you'll need to use an absolute path to the file such as http://yoursite.com/aboutme/thefile.html#anchorpoint
If you want to actually use an absolute url as you described http://yoursite.com/aboutme, then you would need to create a folder, inside that folder use a default name like index.htm within that folder, that has a redirect script to the html page that contains the swf with the path http://yoursite.com/theswfhtml.html#aboutme.
You must use the operator # to access the anchor point of the swf. So in essence you're just making a simple link complicated for the purpose of having a simple url address.

  • MBP won't ' deep sleep'

    MacBook Pro Mid 2011 13"
    i5 2,4 GHz
    OS X 10.8.2
    4 GB RAM
Hi all! I have a problem with my MacBook Pro regarding the deep sleep mode. Normally when you close the lid, the MacBook goes into sleep modus. When you open it, you're back in a second. When you don't use the MBP for a couple of hours, it goes into deep sleep.
I wanted it to put it manually to deep sleep, so I downloaded the deep sleep widget.
    (this one: http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashb...deepsleep.html)
It went into deep sleep but when I tried to wake it, it got stuck at the loading screen. It then made 3 *beeps*, repeatedly and I had to turn it off and then turn it on again.
So I tried some terminal fixes, but now it won't even go to deep sleep anymore.
Here is what I did in this order:
    Removed the deep sleep widget
Terminal: sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 0
    rm /private/var/vm/sleepimage
Set back to: sudo pmset hibernatemode 3
    Pram - PMC Reset
    Reinstalled OS X
None of this fixed the problem.
So now my MBP won't go into deep sleep mode, and I don't know why.
Is there anyone who knows how to fix this or provide me with any tips or pointers?
    Thanks in advance!

I have just recently started having the same issue. When it happens my keyboard feels very warm. I keep my MBP on an elavated surface all the time. I have held down the power button for a few seconds then let the MBP sit and cool. This seems to help. If you get a different answer from the store will you share the info? The nearest store to me is >75 miles away (the one in town closed).
    Thanks

  • Wlan MAC in deep sleep. Please help debug

Some searching around lead me to this (long thread), which suggests this might be an aspm related bug/issue.
Just for the sake of testing, could you try if the issue also occurs if you disable aspm (add "pcie_aspm=off" to your kernel line in your bootloader config)?

  • HT2412 iMac "deep sleep" problem

Hi, I have a iMac 27" Late 2012 and it keeps going in "deep sleep" when I leave it unattended during the day. When I come back, I have to wait for my mac to load the saved state which is quite long. I had many macs in my life and it's the first time I encounter the problem. I've seen that sleep mode before when my MacBook would be out of battery, but never on a desktop... My energy saver settings are set to never sleep (computer) and 15 minutes (display). My setting in Privacy/Advanced/Log out after XX min of inactivity is also off. I checked my hibernation mode in the terminal and it is set to 0. Out of ideas. Anyone ?
    Thank you !

I have the same problem on my black MacBook. My problem is intermittent. Sometimes restart works; sometimes I'll select restart, but after the logout it never really shuts down. Black screen, glowing status indicator, completely unresponsive. I've also left it overnight with no change. The only "fix" is to do a hard shut down with the power button, whereupon I'm presented with the annoying "computer wasn't shut down properly" message on startup. No kidding! But no matter how many times I report it, no response.
I've tried resetting the power manager, I've tried zapping the pram. I've tried reinstalling the system -- I just nuked and paved this weekend, with no change. So either it's a hardware problem, or something fundamentally wrong with the OS. But since I don't hear a lot of people complaining about this one, that makes me think it's specific to my (and your) computer...

Hi. I have had this problem for a few months and still havent found a solution. This macbook air freezes and is totally unresponsive for five or six seconds when it wakes from deep sleep. I have tried:
1 Apple hardware test, which came up negative. No hardware problem detected
2 reset the SMC several times. No fix.
3 repaired permissions in disk utility, and also verified and repaired disk. Still no results.
    4 restarted many times.
5 tried booting in safe mode, but it made the machine hang.
The only thing I havent tried yet is resetting the PRAM. in the event that that doesnt work, does anyone have any ideas. I only found thre

I think it might just depend on how often your machine does this. My MBA 13 has done what you are describing one or twice, but its a rare event. I'm not too worried about it, but you might want to contact AppleCare and see if they have any more information...

  • MacBook always needs to be woken from deep sleep twice

Whenever I wake my MacBook Pro (mid 2012) from  "deep sleep"/"hibernation", it wakes up with the gray loading bar and brings me to the login screen as usual, but the keyboard and mouse remain unresponsive.  The cursor is blinking in the "Enter Password" field and everything, but it won't recognize any input at all.  It remains this way for 2 or 3 minutes, and then it shuts off again.  Not just goes back to regular sleep, but back to "deep sleep", so I have to press the power button again, I get the mac chime, and the gray loading bar again, and this time it does this same thing but after about a minute it will suddenly start recognizing mouse and keyboard input.
What's up with this?  Is it some driver that's taking a very very long time to load or something?  This happens 100% of the time, every single time I wake my MacBook from deep sleep, without fail.  Please help, this is extremely inconvenient.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • Should I care about BT not available? Or... Is Deep Sleep safe??

As many others here from what I've seen, BT in not available from time to time. I would rather put my MB to sleep rather than shut it down completely. I've downloaded the Deep Sleep Widget and I'm thinking of using this every time BT becomes unavailable. It seems that BT is not available more and more these days.
I don't use BT for anything and I'm wondering if it's safe to use Deep Sleep to put MB to bed each night.
Is it OK to use DS on my MB when BT is MIA?
    Thanks

So what does this mean? Does this mean that if I am
going to spawn a thread which updates a Swing
component, that any code which modifies that component
(say setText, or setLocation, etc...), I should wrap
those commands inside Runnable and pass them to
SwingUtilities.invokeAndWait()???If the code that is updating the Swing component is not actually in the Swing thread, then you do have to do that. The Swing thread, by the way, is the one that calls your ActionListeners and other component listeners like them. So you can update Swing components directly from Swing listeners, but otherwise you have to do the invokeAndWait business.
Do I only have to do this if I think there may be
multiple threads accessing the Swing object at the
same thing? I assume so...Yes. And remember that the Swing thread is one of those multiple threads; refer back to the previous comment.
An example I'm dealing with is updating a
JProgressBar. I create multiple threads at startup to
get initial values. These commands take time and it is
much faster to start them all at once rather than run
them sequentially. However, each job then increments
the JProgressBar when it completes. I figured this is
as good example as any of violating this "Thead Safe"
issue, since you have multiple threads trying to
    update a single Swing component.Yes, that's a good example.
