3750 vs. Metro 3750

Does anyone know if a regular Catalyst 3750 (WS-C3750G-24TS-S) can be turned into a Metro 3750 (ME-C3750-24TE-MA) simply by changing the code?
The switches look the same and are priced the same. I believe it should work, but figured it was safest to ask before trying it.

Not possible. The switches may look the same from far, but the hardware is different. The cat3750me has a "daughter card" integrated to it's motherboard for handling the mpls etc functionality. The cat3750 has 4 x SFP slots out of which 2 are so called ES-ports that have mpls support, you can't find those in regular cat 3750. I got 2 of those new Cat 3750me's at my desk..

    Hi Josh,
The Cisco Catalyst 3750 Metro Series is built for Metro Ethernet access in a customer location, enabling the delivery of more differentiated Metro Ethernet services. These switches feature bidirectional hierarchical QoS and Traffic Shaping, intelligent 802.1Q tunneling with class-of-service (CoS) mutation, VLAN translation, MPLS, EoMPLS, and Hierarchical Virtual Private LAN Service (H-VPLS) support, and redundant AC or DC power. They are ideal for service providers seeking to deliver profitable business services, such as Layer 2, Layer 3, and MPLS VPNs, in a variety of bandwidths and with different SLAs.
The metro switches have the PXF chips (which allow hierarchical QoS on the 2 "WAN" GigE ports, so several logical links can share a connection, and have soft bandwidth limits).

  • URGENT: MPLS P/ PE support on 7600/Sup720-BXL and 3750 Metro switch

I'm need to design a MPLS network for a Cable Operator.
They will start small with some Cisco CMTS doing MPLS-PE and needing only two devices to aggregate these PE and delivering Services (Internet connection, VoD, ...) , so they will need to work has P/PE.
For that I want to know if it's possible to:
    1 - Use 3750 Metro and 7600/Sup720-BXL as P and PE
    2 - Who many customers (L2VPN/VLANs and/or L3VPN/VRF) can they support?
Searching in CCO I found these values/features but, need URGENT to check:
    1 - sup720-bxl supports P and PE but 3750 only PE?
2 - 3750 supports 1024 VLANs and 8,192 MPLS labels but no values on L3VPN/VRF?
SUP720 supports more than 1000 VRF?
Really need urgent HELP on this design/capabilities for these two devices.
    Thanks in advance,

before you even get anywhere close to the numbers of L2/L3 on a 7200 I would seriously consider asking what throughput you can get through a 7200 with MPLS, QOS, L3vpns and L2vpns configured. I have done this testing already but dont think it is appropriate to quote the figures publically.

  • EoMPLS with Catalyst 3750 Metro Switches

    Hi,
I am trying to setup an EoMPLS tunnel (VLAN mode) between two 3750 Metro switches. But I am not getting the Status down from the both PEs.Also the 'show mpls l2transport binding' shows no output interface and no label stack is attached. Can anybody in the forum help me out? Is it any IOS related problem.
    The IOS version is:c3750me-i5k91-mz.122-25.SEG1.bin

  • Number of supported VRF instances on a 3750 Metro

    Hello,
When the 3750 metro first came out I believe there was an IOS limitation of 26 VRFs. Does anyone know whether this has now changed at all.
    Thanks.
    Eddie

    Hi Eddie,
I believe that these restrictions remain (12.2(35)SE):
The switch supports a total of 26 VRFs and VPNs.

  • 3750 Metro ethernet switch

    Folks,
I have 6500's at the core and want to use the 3750 at the PE. My question is the following:
    1) 3750 would do Q-IN-Q.
    2) Once the packet reaches the 6500(sup 720) running MPLS. What happens to the frame. Do i use xconnect to transfer the frame to the appropriate PE?
Just confussed about how does the PE use the Q-IN-Q information to direct it to the appropriate PE?
Sample config would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks

Well.. its about product features .. you gotta compare products with your requirments at various layer of your network and to come out with justification of your requirments . Any ways below is snippet for you to have some justification between two products

  • Metro 3750 with 100BaseFX SFP

    Hi all,
Do anyone know if it's possible to run MPLS over a 100BaseFX SFP in the ES port of a Cisco Catalyst 3750 Metro Edition?
    BR
    /Daniel

Ok, Just wanted to reduce the confusion.
    1) MPLS support : YES.
Its part of the software. And the IOS for 3750 supports MPLS to be configured on ES ports, with more QOS and other functions as well.
    2) 100 BASE SFP Support - YES.
Now you have a question clubbed in for hardware support of 100BASE SFP on 3750. What ever SFP you put in ES ports MPLS will run. Now for support of hardware question.
Yes 100BaseSFP is supported in 3750 series Gigabit SFP uplinks.
    Here is the link:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/modules/ps5455/products_data_sheet0900aecd801ba88e.html
Although you are not at all utilizing the 3750 to the fullest by using a 100BASE SFP but again it depends on your requirement.
But the support is there. :-)

  • 3750 metro series switch does not support dot1q trunking?

    Folks,
I have a 3750 metro series switch and i am trying to use it to do inter vlan routing. I do not see an option for "encapsulation dot1q" under sub interface?? why is it not supported??
    Thanks

    Narvin,
if you want inter-vlan routing, the interface Vlan nn itself specify vlan.I think you confuse with router subinterface where you must specify what Vlan a subinterface must use ( and encaps type ). Encaps type ( dot1q or ISL ) is used at trunk level, and whatever trunk use you can do intervlan routing using vlan interface.

I have a 3750 metro series switch and i am trying to use it to do inter vlan routing. I do not see an option for "encapsulation dot1q" under sub interface?? why is it not supported??

    Navin,
The 3750 Metro series switch does not support Layer 3 trunks; you cannot configure subinterfaces or use the encapsulation keyword on Layer 3 interfaces. The switch does support Layer 2 trunks and Layer 3 VLAN interfaces, which provide equivalent capabilities.
For more information, see the note under Table 12-5 on this page: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps5532/products_configuration_guide_chapter09186a00803960dc.html#wp1326724.

  • 3750 Metro hardware defection.

When two 3750ME ,same IOS and same configuration, connected using fastethernet trunk, vlan interface over the trunk can't building ospf neighbor, one can recieve the ospf hello ,the other can't.We have 22 3750ME running in our network, several sites have met the same problem.
Futhermore ,when 3750 Metro connect with a 7507 router using a fast ethernet trunk, the 7507 interface configured dot1q,then the 3750ME interface lost packets.

Take care when setting the mode to on (manual configuration) in etherchannel PAgP modes. All ports configured in the on mode are bundled in the same group and are forced to have similar characteristics. If the group is misconfigured, packet loss or spanning-tree loops might occur.

  • Netflow on Cisco Catalyst 3750 Metro Series Switches

Does netflow possible in 3750 metro series?

    Hi Syed,
You have to first check if there is any image in switch or not so that you can manually boot from switch: prompt but as you said there is no image in the switch you have to go for xmodem procedure to upgrade the switch.
Have a look at this link and just follow step by step instructions and you will be good to go

    Hi
I did try to find out the same but could find only the voltage ratings which is -36 to -72 VDC.
Had seen 7300 routers with same kinda rating having rating of 3A.
But still would suggest to get the same confirmed with ur vendor.

  • Port-ACL's on a 3750 - question

I have a 3750 that is connected to another network via a layer-2 type connection. I have a specific set of tcp and udp ports that I want to allow access to via this switch. In taking a look at the documentation I see that I can apply Port ACL's directly to layer-2 interfaces, but that it will only work "inbound" to the switch.
    Will this work:
If I have (bad ascii net diagram):
    [hosta]--[rtr]--[switcha]-WAN-[switchb]
I want to put an ACL on the l2 uplink from switchB to the wan (WAN is a metro-ethernet type l2 wan extension - rtr is a router) that only allows hosta to hit tcp ports 1000,2000 and 3000 on hosts sitting on switchb. I want to allow hosts on switchb to do whatever they want to hosta. Is it as simple as:
ip access-list 101 permit tcp any any eq 1000
ip access-list 101 permit tcp any any eq 2000
ip access-list 101 permit tcp any any eq 3000
and then applying that ACL onto the l2 uplink interface on switchb? Thinking that since Port ACL's only affect "inbound" direction - allowing inbound connections on the l2 uplink gets the packets onto my hosts on switchb, and there is nothing preventing the return traffic or new tcp connections from hosts on switchb -> hosta...?
    Thanks!
    -Frank

Yes frank, Your idea seems to be okei.
As per document, You can configure only one type of per-user ACLs on a Catalyst 3750 switch port: router ACLs or port ACLs. Router ACLs apply to Layer 3 interfaces, and port ACLs apply to Layer 2 interfaces. If a port is configured with a port-based ACL, the switch rejects any attempt to configure a router-based ACL on the same port. However, if a port is configured with a router-based ACL and then a port-based ACL, the port-based ACL overwrites the router ACL.
while applying to the interface connecting to l2 port give "in" direction, but anyway out is not supported in l2 interfaces.
so nothing looks preventig the return traffic.

  • 3750 as MPLS PE !!!

    Hi,
I came across this link "http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/switches/ps5718/ps5532/product_data_sheet0900aecd806e27b9.html"
It says that 3750 can be used as an L2/L3 PE... for me it sounds too good to be true.
Am I missing something... is anyone here using these to provide MPLS based L2/L3 services.
    Please suggest.
    Thanks
    Cheers
    ~sultan

It's weird because I browse the 3750 Metro configuration guide and it seems that you can run bgp process on it (with vpnv4 address so MP-BGP)
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/metro/catalyst3750m/software/release/12.2_44_se/configuration/guide/swmpls.html#wp1021082
It's confirmed in this picture too : http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/switches/ps5718/ps5532/images/product_data_sheet0900aecd806e27b9-3.jpg
So it should be possible to use 3750M as a PE, i'm very interested by this solution for our metropolitan network !
