3750X, Dual Power Supply, 1 in 110V and 1 in 208V

I have a Cisco WS-C3750X-12S swith with dual C3KX-PWR-350WAC power supplies that are both currently connected to 110V PDUs.  We are being forced to migrate over to new 208V PDUs and I would like to know if it is possible to run this switch with one power supply connected to a 110V feed and the other power supply connected to a 208V feed?
I assume this will work as both power supplies are auto sensing and are rated for any input between 110V - 240V.  Would there be any potential issues with this configuration?
This will only be needed for one week while the second 208V PDU is connected.  I will need to migrate one PS to 208V, wait for the second PDU to be installed in my rack, and then move the second PS to 208V.
I was hoping to be able to migrate without having to reboot the switch as this would require a maintenance window and downtime for an important connection.
Thank you.

Hello,
That should be fine, I've seen customers actually run this in production for quite some time.  You should be able to migrate this without downtime as long as you are not running a large number of POE devices that are reliant on XX amount of power at one time.

On a 7301, I believe it does act as a redundant power supply, and this is often true for many Cisco devices with dual power supplies, but there can be exceptions.  For example, on the 6500 chassis, you might use dual power supplies in combined mode, i.e. failure of a power supply would leave the chassis short of necessary power.  The 3560X/3750X might also have insufficient power if a power supply fails when running on two (this issue may arise when using PoE).

  • Power consumption with dual power supply

    Hi,
I need to know how dual power supply works, I mean, when you have two power supplies in a router if both of them are working at the same time, or if one of them is working while the other one only begin to work when the first one stops.
And if both of them are working at the same time, what is the power consumption, the same as if only one of them was working?
    Thanks

The implementation details can potentially differ per product category but usually the following is applicable:
The product provides configurable power redundancy modes and choosing a mode dictates whether load will be shared across supplies or whether a particular supply will be dedicated for redundancy.
If both (or more) supplies are working at the same time then both share the power load.
The actual power consumption depends on the power required to run the installed components and is the same whether you use power supplies in redundant or power sharing mode.

  • CiscoWorks how many switches in stack + dual Power supply usage

    Hi,
Please tell me that is it possible to see in CiscoWorks that device with dual power supplies is using both or just one. e.g 6500
Also I need to count the total number of physical switches in the company but I am only able to generate a inventory report that only shows logical devices, but it do not show if the switch is stack then how many physical switches are in stack.
Is it also possible to count the total number of physical devices in the company instead of just logical devices.
    I am using the
    LMS: 1.2.0
    RME: 4.3.0
    CS:    3.3.0
    CM:   5.2.1
    DFM: 3.2.0
    Thanks.

    Thanks for reply.
In the detailed device view I am able to see that switch has 2 power supply, but but unable to see that its using either only one or both. But I understand your point that if its not visible here then its not possible.
Explainantion of my second query: My company want to know that how many physical switches has been installed. We manage over 2500 logical switches in the company and management want to have a report showing that how many total physical switches exist.
Is it possible to generate a report which shows that each logical switch contains how many physical swithes and/ or total number of physical switches in the company.
e.g MLS001 (logical switch) contains sw1 (physical switch), sw2 (physical switch), sw3 (physical switch), sw4 (physical switch)
MLS002 (logical switch) contains sw1 (physical switch), sw2 (physical switch)
CiscoWorks generate a report shows that 6 physical switches exist.
    Please reply ASAP. Thanks

  • Cisco 3850 Dual Power Supply - One No Response

    Hey Guys,
I am getting multiple switches on my network showing "power supply failure" from Solarwinds.
I am running Cisco 3850s running v 03.02.03.SE cat3k_caa-universalk9 iOS, and they all have dual power supplies. When i do the sh env power, I get this output.
    SWITCH1#sh env power
SW  PID                             Serial#     Status               Sys Pwr  PoE Pwr  Watts
    1A  PWR-C1-715WAC       xxxx           OK                 Good     Good           715
1B  PWR-C1-715WAC       xxxx         No Response   Good     Good           715
    SWITCH2#sh env power
SW  PID                              Serial#     Status           Sys Pwr    PoE Pwr     Watts
    1A  PWR-C1-715WAC       xxxx           OK                   Good     Good          715
1B  PWR-C1-715WAC       xxxx         No Response     Good     Good          715
When I physically go down to look at the switches, they have green lights, so they are receiving power, but I keep getting the PSU failure alerts.
Do you think it is an iOS issue, and should I upgrade? Or has anyone else seen this?

    Hi,
I think below Bug could match with your issue.
"power supply B is not responding" reoccurring on Catalyst switches
    https://tools.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCun41735/?reffering_site=dumpcr
And we can see workaround of this issue is HW workaround.

  • IMac G5 bluetooth + airport + power supply problems - oh and the dvd drive

Yeah, seems like a lot is going wrong with my mac lately. I bought the iMac G5(no isight) model last year around july. I had some power issues (i.e. leaving the house with it turned on to come home and find it off) For the last year though that was all that was wrong. Once I had to reinstall OS X because it would not find the OS X harddrive during one of these power losses, but that was it.
Then about two weeks ago, I came home to a turned off iMac. I thought the power had gone out in my apartment, but the clocks were all right, and to my surprise the iMac would not turned on. Because I am not under warranty I searched online and found an extended exchange program for my emc model. (http://www.apple.com/support/imac/powersupply/repairextension/) I made an appt at the apple store and they replaced the power supply.
I got the machine back two nights ago and my bluetooth hardware wasn't recognized. And I now had a new "ink" system preference panel in the hardware section which aparently is some sort of handwriting recognition tablet. It ticked me off, but I just wanted to use my computer.
Well today I came home from work and my computer was acting funny. Everywhere I clicked brought up dashboard. This had never happened before and I had no choice but to force a shutdown. Powered it back up and poof, there goes my airport card. No hardware recognized. Now I have a 25 ft cable running the floor of my apartment. This was cause enough to call apple. I was told to make another apointment to bring the computer in. The guy made it sound like it was no big deal to lug a 30 lb bulky computer 40 miles and through a crowded mall. He also made no promises that the repairs would be covered under the exchange program.
I just wanted to hear any suggestions before I decide whether or not its worth it to bring in the computer. Nothing shows up in system profiler under bluetooth or airport. Should I just lie to the "genius" and tell them that my computer still shuts down randomly? I think that way they would at least replace the logic board (which I think is the problem) before telling me to sell my kidney and pay for repairs. I've tried reseting the SMU, and I looked at the bluetooth and airport cards to see if they had been accidently disconnected during the PS replacement. They are actually screwed into the logic board so I think their connections are efficient.
Oh and about the DVD drive. I have to use two cd's in order to burn a single disc. The first disc I put in the drive NEVER works. It spins for about 30 seconds then starts buzzing like blender and spits the cd back out. The second blank disc I put in USUALLY works, but sometimes it takes three discs. This problem has always been there since day 1, but I don't burn enough cd's for it to be an issue.
Thank you for listening to my gripes. I really don't think I'll make the mistake of buying the first issue of a model.
    iBook G4 900mghz, iMac G5 20" 2.0 ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

OK, first thing -to restore your bluetooth, shut down, unplug for a few minutes and then reboot. Thay usually brings the BT back. You should also repair permissions. Reset your SMU nd your PRAM as well.
Try those four things and please post back,

My iphone 4 has completely died - it wont connect to the power supply, wont connect to PC nothing - any suggestions ??

  • T61 - Power supply wire melting and smoking

Do you guys have any problem with power supply. My wife just called me and she smelled something burning. And power supply wire is melting and smoking.
And I called Lenovo tech and he told me that my machine is just 13-month old and he can't do anything at all.
He just told me replace power supply. I used to have dell and IBM X41 and never have wire burning problem.
Is this normal? If my wife found out little late and buring the carpet still he is going to say this machine is out of warrenty and Lenovo has 0% responsibility.
I told him, I'm going to take picture and post to the internet and he told "I don't care".
Wow what a nice man. He supposed say "Sorry" first then say your machine is out of warrenty...
Anyway, I'll never going to buy Lenovo again.
    Thanks

  • Scxi 1520 dual power supply

    Greetings!
I am using an SCXI 1520 right now. I wish to get a dual voltage power supply out of it (+/-) 5V. I know that what I get is just 0-10V. But is there a trick to do this. Thank you very much!
    -Ham

    Hello,
There is no way to get +/- 10 V from the SCXI-1520. I recommend either using an external power supply, or the unused AO channels on your DAQ device to provide these voltages. To make use of the unused AO channels, you can either use a SCXI-1180 Feedthrough panel with a SCXI-1302 terminal block, or a 50-pin ribbon cable connected to a CB-50. Both of these simply give you access to the unused pins on the DAQ device (AI 1..N, AO 0..N, CTR, etc...).
For more information on the SCXI-1180, see:

  • X99S Gaming 9 ACK - power supply compatibility - JPWR2 and JPWR3- Status code 00

    Hello,
Setting up a newly purchased X99S Gaming 9 ACK, and would appreciate any help.  Can't get past status code 00 and am in debug mode.
First step in my debug process, I'm trying to confirm power supply requirements.   The board has two 12V input connectors - JPWR2 and JPWR3.  The manual mentions them both.  However, my power supply only has one 12V "EPS12V" cable with an 8 pin connector that can be separated into 4+4.
A quick search did not turn up any power supplies that come stock with two 12V cables.  This seemed odd, so I searched for information for JPWR2 and JPWR3 hoping to find something and what turned up was somewhat contradictory.  Some info out there seems to suggest that powering one of the two would be OK if not overclocking.  So I tried that - first just JPWR3, then split the power connector and did just JPWR2, then did JPWR2 and part of JPWR3....and then just to confirm what I thought I was seeing (that 00 status is telling me the CPU's not active) I removed everything from both JPWR2 and JPWR3.  In all cases, the status code was 00.
So I'm looking to find out how folks with this MB actually working have connected the power.
Question 1:  Does anyone run it without having both JPWR2 and JPWR3 connected?  If so, what approach do you use?
Question 2:  Does anyone run it having them both connected?  If so, please let me know what power supply you use.  I am guessing maybe a configurable cable sort could be set up with two 12V lines?
I know, it's possible with no known-good components (well, the power supply is freshly removed from a happily functioning PC, so it's not suspect) I may have either a bad CPU or a bad MB.  And they are both brand new and eminently returnable.  But I don't want to do that till I know I've got them powered correctly.  I'm relatively confident (well, hopeful) that having the correct power supply setup will let me get past 00 status code and see what else I get to debug.
Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Thanks for the input.  Reset CMOS, removed all but the first stick of RAM.  No change.  Status code 00.
Initial PS was the Corsair TX750W.  I got another power supply to test that has cables to fill both JPWR2 and JPWR3.  No change.  Status code 00.
So, apparently a DOA Motherboard.  Was afraid of that.  Sending it back to try again.

  • I have the first generation Time Capsule A1254, the power supply went south and I'm looking to replace it any suggestions where I might find one?  Thanks

    Hi,
I have the first generation Time Capsule A1254, the power supply inside went south, does anyone know where I can purchase another?
    Thanks

Might be worth considering a repair of the power supply so you can keep the data on your drive.

  • T440s keyboard and external power supply

The issue that I come across is if T440s starts up on battery, as soon as the external power supply is connected, the keyboard stops responding, as well as mouse. if I disconnect external power supply, both keyboard and mouse function as usual.
If start up on external poewr supply, it seems to be OK.
    Any suggestions?

    Hello Hans -
Taking a look a the PrecisionHD Camera User Guide on pg 9, the 2.5x camera does have a power supply connector just like the 4x and 12x cameras.  It does say the power supply connector is For future use, so it doesn't seem like it supports an external PSU at this time.

  • Looking to upgrade the video card and power supply in the K330

Hello, I'm looking to upgrade the power supply and video card in the Lenovo IdeaCentre K330 but I need to know if these parts will be accepted by the mobo.
Here's the card name (no link, don't know if theres a restriction to off site links) ASUS 2GB GDDR5 DIGI+ VRM technology Graphics Cards HD7770-2GD5
The power supply name follows: Xion High Performance 1000 Watt ATX Power Supply XON-1000P14F
Thanks for reading, and extra thanks for a good reply

Thanks for replying, I have looked into other PSU's and came up with this: XFX PRO750W Core Edition 80+ Bronze ATX 750 Energy Star Certified Power Supply
Feedback? And main question is, will they both (video card and PSU) be compatible with the motherboard that come standard in the K330?
I don't really have a need for the front panel except the power, and backontrack buttons.
Also, the reason why I'm getting a high wattage PSU is because I might later decide to build my own PC with the upgraded parts, and put the old parts back into the K330
