3D acceleration for OS X iMac 10.4.8

Good morning peoples. I have some issues. I am using OS X 10.4.8 on an iMac 20" w/ Core Duo/ 1.5 gb ram/ ATI X1600 256 vram. I have UT2003 and it runs very choppy at best. I would like to know if there is any way to get it running smoothly on my system and if so, then how.
I will do whatever I have to but lack Mac experience. My experiences are mainly Win and Linux, plus some FreeBSD experience but we all know Mac is a bit different, so if you can help, please share.
Thanks...

My guess is you are running a PPC-only application on an Intel Mac. As a result the application must run in the Rosetta emulator which causes a substantial hit in performance. Try upgrading the program to one that is a universal binary or Intel-only version. I suppose UT has been upgraded since 2003. If updates are available you will find them at the developer's web site. Or you can try the updater Unreal Tournament 2004 3369-2 (www.macupdate.com or www.versiontracker.com.)

  • Premiere CC kicks GPU acceleration for 6770M

Installing Premiere CC has disabled GPU acceleration on my 2011 iMac running the "Supported" AMD Radeon HD 6770M 512 MB Graphics card. GPU acceleration was working fine on CS6 without the need for any hack.
I am running a fully updated OS Mountain Lion.
GPU acceleration was also kicked on a work computer I was using on a different license. A PC with an Nvidia card. This required the card driver to be reinstalled. But because my iMac has the driver built into the OS I can't do this for my iMac.
Since this happened on two completely different computers I've used with different OS and graphics cards I'm surprised this isn't a big issue for lots of people.
Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.
    James

And yet it was working fine on CS6.
The required specs on the Adobe page are little confusing as they read...
       Windows
    Mac
AMD Radeon HD 6750M (only on certain MacBook Pro computers running OS X Lion (v10.7.x) with a minimum of 1GB of VRAM)
AMD Radeon HD 6770M (only on certain MacBook Pro computers running OS X Lion (v10.7.x) with a minimum of 1GB of VRAM)
    ATI Radeon HD 6750M (OpenCL)
    ATI Radeon HD 6770M (OpenCL)
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285 (CUDA)
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675MX (CUDA)
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 (CUDA)
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX (CUDA)
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650M (CUDA)
    NVIDIA GeForce Quadro CX (CUDA)
NVIDIA GeForce Quadro FX 4800 (CUDA)
    NVIDIA GeForce Quadro 4000 (CUDA)
    NVIDIA GeForce Quadro K5000 (CUDA)
So they obviously have the Mac and Windows titles in the wrong place.
But further, when I look inside my System, through Terminal, it says I have the "ATI Radeon HD 6770M" - which is supported without the 1Gb VRAM caveat. When I open "About This Mac" / "More Info" it tells me I have the AMD Radeon HD 6770M 512mb.

  • Where can I get a new hard drive for my intel imac?  **** thing dumped, less than 3 years old.

This is my first mac and the **** hard drive crashed in only 2+ years and of course the waranty is expired.  Can I replace the hard drive with any 3.5" replacement or do I need something special.  And if I do where can I get it?  I didn't see anything specifically for an intel imac at apple store.  I don't want to pay apple to install it, already spent enough money on this disappointing purchase.

any 3.5" Sata drive will do.  I recommend http://www.macsales.com/, or http://www.newegg.com/

A PC can have more issues connecting than a Mac.
But it really should not matter.. so just try it in situ.. press and hold the reset.. once it starts up, it will return to default IP, 10.0.1.1 the PC should then be able to find it via the airport utility.
If not drag it over to the Mac and plug in there by ethernet.. or since it is a laptop, really should not be that difficult to drag the Laptop and plug it into the TC.
Important thing is to get access to the TC.
The Mac if it is running lion, then you MUST download and install 5.6 airport utility to do anything useful.

  • How can i use my old iMac as a extended desktop display for my new iMac?

I recently purchased a 21.5 in iMac and wanted to use my old iMac as a extended desktop. My new iMac has thunderbolt and USB 3.0 connections while my old iMac has firewire (400 and 800), USB 2.0 and mini-DVI. Is this posible?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If your iMac has got Mini-DVI, you have a 17, 20 or 24-inch iMac that doesn't support Target Display. Late 2009 and Mid 2010 27-inch iMacs, and iMacs with Thunderbolt can be used as external displays. Read > http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11302?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
If your old iMac doesn't support Target Display mode, you can use ScreenRecycler to use your old iMac as an extended display for the new iMac. The only thing you need is that both Macs are connected to the same network

  • Can i use iCloud for pages documents iMac?

can i use iCloud for pages documents iMac?

    Hi lmdavis72,
    It looks like you can.
From "iCloud: Documents in the Cloud overview"
You can download a document from icloud.com/iwork to your Mac or Windows computer, edit it, and then drag the revised version to icloud.com/iwork. It’s then automatically updated on all of your iOS devices. You can also drag an iWork ’09 (Keynote, Pages, and Numbers) or Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, and Excel) document created on your computer to icloud.com/iwork.
So it looks like it can go between iOS devices and your iMac.

    Hi champrider,
You can use an application such as Apple Remote Desktop to control your iMac remotely. See this article -

  • I am using iphoto 6.06 for my intel imac.  I have been trying to print pictures from iphoto and i keep getting a message that states " the picture you are trying to print is in the iphoto library"  what can i do to be able to print a photo from iphoto

I am using iphoto 6.06 for my intel imac.  I have been trying to print pictures from iphoto and i keep getting a message that states " unreadable file: the following file could not be imported.  the file is in the iphoto library folder"  also when i try to print a picture from iphoto i get a message that says "no page was selected"
not sure what happened but i can pnly print when i drop the photo onto my desktop as an 8.5 x 11 size picture and i am trying to print 4x6's

Since the new library gives you the same message log into another user account on your Mac and see if you can run iPhoto without getting that message.  If you get that message there also a reinstall of iPhoto seems indicated. To do so you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iPhoto" in the file name with either a .PKG or .BOM extension that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder and from the /var/db/receipts/  folder,
Then install iPhoto from the disk it came on originally and apply all available updates to it.

    Dear Mr. Z,
    Thank you for contacting APC.
The compatibility of the UPS with an OS is dependant on the installed management software the UPS communicates with.
    1. BR900GI - PowerChute Personal - no compatibility with OSX, please find the compatibility chart below:
    http://www.apcmedia.com/salestools/JNOE-7GSAQJ/JNOE-7GSAQJ_R11_EN.pdf
    2. SUA750I - PowerChute Business Edition - no compatibility with OSX, please find the compatibility chart below:
    http://www.apcmedia.com/salestools/ASTE-6Z5QEV/ASTE-6Z5QEV_R37_EN.pdf
Alternately, if you install a network management card (AP9630 or AP9631) in the SUA750I, it will be able to communciate with the PowerChute Network Shutdown software. This is compatible with Mac OS X Server 10.7.2 x64:

  • I moved from the UK to the US with my iMac. What do I need to buy for the UK iMac to work in the US? A power convertor? A plug convertor? or Both?

I moved from the UK to the US with my iMac. What do I need to buy for the UK iMac to work in the US? A power convertor? A plug convertor? or Both?  I had previously read that you only need a plug convertor (three prong to two prong).  But I'm terrified that my iMac will blow up if I only use a plug convertor and not some sort of voltage convertor (Transformer).

I'm not really hardware tech savy - is it easy to pop out the UK power cable and plug in the US power cable? Or do I need to get someone like an iMac support guy to do this? And because of the voltage difference, is there something built into the iMac that takes care of the voltage difference for me?  Thanks!!

  • Recommendations, please, for external DVD writer for my 2006 iMac. (Internal drive unable to write coherently.)

Recommendations, please, for an external DVD writer for my 2006 iMac whose internal drive is writing unreadable discs.
    Model Name:          iMac

      L2 Cache:          4 MB
      Memory:          4 GB
      Bus Speed:          667 MHz

Thanks, A Brody.  Don't know what the PRAM battery is.  Here are more details of the fault ... Although I've had the iMac for 5 years this may be the first time I've tried copying a video recording onto the DVD drive (I've made lots of CD copies without a problem).  The folder and files all seem to be reproduced in identical order on the disc but my domestic DVD player cannot make sense of the recording, unlike the original source DVD from which the files originated.  The drive has always been noisy but I've never assumed it shouldn't be!  Does this fit your PRAM battery theory?  If so, please explain more.  Thanks.

  • RNDisAssembler issue in Biztalk 2010 or 2009 accelerator for RosettaNet

We are receiving 3C3 PIP messages from a traing partner. But from time to time, below error pops out.
    Source module:
    RNDisAssembler
    Correlation information:
    Description:
    Receive pipeline rejected incoming message
due to the following RNIF exception:
UNP.SCON.VALERR : A failure occurred while validating the service content.
    Details:
Data at the root level is invalid. Line 3, position 1.
It's just once in a while. And I can't see any perceptible exception in the problematic message. This is so weird. I would assume it's a bug of Biztalk. Please refer to the post
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/955240/en-us, which provide a hotfix for BizTalk Accelerator for RosettaNet 3.5. Is there a counterpart for Biztalk 2010 or 2009?

    Hi,
The resolution to this problem is descrived here:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/biztalkcpr/archive/2011/03/05/btarn-app-pool-settings-for-biztalk-2010.aspx
"Here is a some additional information regarding extending BTARN 2010 with new PIP’s. The artifacts generated are going to be .Net 4.0 unless Visual Studio is configured to do otherwise. This means along with setting the application pools for the
32-bit the .Net setting must be set to match. "

I like the idea of auto back-up for my new iMac, Ipad and PC Netbook, particularly if I can access all files and data stored on any device.  But I have a Conceptronic router.
    1. Will Time Capsule work with this and how?
    2. Can my printer USB be plugged in and then shared between the devices?
    3. Can I create a network and how?
    4.  What happend when a visitor logs onto my existing wireless router?
I'm new to Macs (well a returning user having started with Mac Plus!!) and not very technical.  Any help / advice will be much appreciated.
    Ray

The key to what you seem to want to do is to be able to get Apple's Time Capsule router to "join" the network that your Conceptronic router.  I believe that works with some third-party routers, but I've never seen a list of those that work in such a configuration and I have no experience with Conceptronic equipment.
You might be better off with a Network-Attached Storage (NAS) device instead of a Time Capsule.

I'm trying to set up a dual monitor for my new iMac. I'm using a second display I used with my old G5. My iMac recognizes the second monitor but the monitor won't turn on. Power button doesn't do anything on the monitor itself.

If it won't turn on then the monitor is dead (power supply?, video circuits?).  Not worth repairing.
If you have a new iMac then it has thunderbolt.  So exactly what is that monitor you are trying to connect?  For TB you can connect a mini-displayport monitor.   Probably (not 100% sure with TB) can use dvi or vga too if you have the appropriate adapter.
