3D Acceleration in VMware Player 5

Hello,
I wanted to install Archlinux into a VMware virtual machine but I have trouble making 3D acceleration working with Gnome. When I activate the option under VMware, GDM will get stuck on the background screen. This only happens when the acceleration is activated, otherwise GDM works fine.
If I start gnome-session in fallback-mode directly from the terminal, everything will work fine; If gnome-session is not in fallback-mode, a freeze similar to GDM's will occur. I can't reproduce this problem with the default X environment (the startx command).
And since GDM doesn't crash or stop working, I have a hard time finding the origin of the problem. Here is the content of my "0-greeter.log" log:

CurrentTime used to choose focus window; focus window may not be correct
Got a request to focus the no_focus_window with a timestamp of 0. This shouldn't happen!
This is strange because the 3D acceleration used to work on my previous virtual machine (but I lost it ).
Have anyone encountered a similar problem ?
Thanks !

  • VMware Player and mouse not behaving correctly with the vmmouse driver

I'm running Arch on VMware Player and having problems with the mouse behavior.
    - Arch is updated, 32 -bit
    - VMware Player 6.0.1
    - Host is Windows 8.1 64-bit
    - XFCE 4.10
If I install xf86-input-vmmouse, the following happens:
    - If cursor touches the edge of the screen when scrolling a window with the scroll bar, scrolling stops. If I continue pressing the mouse button and moving the mouse (and not touching any edges), the scrolling starts working again after two seconds.
    - When opening any new window, hovering and clicking will register only after two seconds. This is very noticeable when opening the application menu and trying to launch any app - first click never works.
Uninstalling the vmmouse driver fixes the above problems. The mouse "feeling" gets very bad though, it seems jumpy and the acceleration is crazy and can't be tweaked to be satisfactory with the mouse settings. With vmmouse the mouse feels otherwise just fine.
Installing or uninstalling Open-VM-Tools doesn't do anything.
I tried this, but it had no effect: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/In … s_expected
Happens both in fullscreen and windowed, scrolling behavior happens every time, hover/click lag is not so predictable (seems to happen 50 % of the time).
Might there be any easy fix for this?

Hi Sung, Thanks for your reply.
    Leonardo:
If I understand your msg correctly, I'm wondering if
the data model as you described is complete.
You state that you have MaintenanceType, Maintenance,
and MaintenanceOrder, but don't you need
MaintenanceOrderLine?MaintenanceOrderLine is what I'm calling Maintenance. A Maintenace record is used just to link a MaintenanceOrder to a MaintenanceType
    >
Otherwise, you say that you removed all Maintenance's
in step 2). How did you form a list of all
Maintenance's in step 4)? How do you form this
    list?
was raised due to unique constraint violationAt step 3) I'm using a view object, MaintenanceTypeView, to create a list of checkboxes, one for each MaintenanceType.
At step 4), for each MaintenanceType selected in the form, I'm creating a new Maintenance using:
//All codes of maintenance types, that already have a
//respective maintenance record in the db, have already
//been remove from the maintenancesToInsert list at this
    //point
    for (Iterator iter = maintenancesToInsert.iterator(); iter.hasNext();) {
    MaintenanceViewRow maintenanceRow = (MaintenanceViewRow) maintenanceView.createRow();
    maintenanceRow.setMaintenanceTypeCode(Integer.valueOf((String)iter.next()));
    maintenanceView.insertRow(maintenanceRow);

  • How do I disable the hardware acceleration in Flash player on a Windows XP machine remotely?

How do I disable the hardware acceleration in Flash player on a Windows XP machine remotely?
I have a few hundred computers running Adobe Flash Player.
The operation system is Windows XP.
They are Compaq 6005 desktop PC’s, with an inbuilt ATI radeon HD 4200 video card.
We have a persistent issue where viewing a flash video (e.g. something on youtube) causes the video card driver to crash.  You are left with no video signal to the monitor.  Audio continues and the computer still responds to commands. This only happens when watching flash video.
    We have tried:
    Updating flash plugin (numerous versions)
Updating the video card drivers (we have tried the last three video card driver versions, including the HP drivers and ATI drivers)
Updating the browsers (this problem happens with IE8/9 and Firefox10/11/12)
There seems to be two ways to work round this issue.  One is to disable the video acceleration in the ‘troubleshoot’ section in the advanced part of the display settings area in windows.  The other way is to start a flash video, right click, go to ‘settings’ and untick the box marked ‘Enable Hardware Acceleration’.
Doing either of these things allows the user to view flash videos with no apparent issues.
Is there a way to disable the hardware acceleration in Flash without visiting the PC?  Perhaps an undocumented option in the mms.cfg file? I understand that you can use an option to skip the video card check, and so force hardware acceleration on, can you do the opposite?
    Thanks in advance
    Daniel.

    Hi.
I have had over 200 views, and no suggestions as to how this could be fixed.
I have also posted in the general flash forum, that thread has fewer views.
If I should put this question in a different forum please let me know which one.
If what I am asking is not possible is there a mechanism for escalating this issue or requesting a feature for the next version of flash?
    Thanks.

  • Issue with VMware player - trying to install Windows 7 on a virtual machine

I'm currently using the basic version of VMware player (not the pro version)
I create a new virtual machine. VMware player automatically detects my Windows 7 bit installation disc
    in my attached CD/DVD drive.
in the next screen, i select my operating system version and fill in my windows license key
then there is a progress bar with the title "creating disc" which takes about 10 minutes to complete
after installation, the virtual machine launches.
It says (white on black background)
    Network boot from Intel E1000
    PXE-E53: no boot filename recived
    PXE-M0F Existing Intel PXE Rom.
    Operating system not found.
on the bottom of the virtual machine window it says "easy install is installing Windows 7 64 bit",
however my CD/DVD drive is not spinning and there is no progress leaving this alone for 30 minutes.
I then rebooted the Virtual Machine and went into the bios to update the boot order
with the CDrom 1st, then the hard drive and then the network.
I still get the same errors.
I also tried the same process with my Windows Xp installation disc, same issues
    Any advice would be appreciated

Jmattson, good idea I'll try the manual install. user "aka", I did check the bios, intel virtualization is enabled.

  • [SOLVED] VMware player, network doesn't work

    Hi!
I installed VMware player through AUR and it works well. But when I started my vm (Debian 4.0) it asked if I had copied or moved it. I chose "I copied it" because I copied it from my hdd to external hdd. I started my vm but network didn't work. I configured network using vmware-config.pl file like it recommended (vmnet0 as bridged with my wlan0 and vmnet8 as NAT. I also chose to use host-only networking in my vm's (wmaster0)). How did you guys configured your network succesfully?
I just want it to work like on my windows box. It has it's own IP and I can connect to it's IP directly from firefox. Yeah, I run webserver on that vm.

  • BUG - client-side iPad keyboard in MRD 8.1.5 is mis-mapped for remote VMware Player console on Windows 8.1 Pro

Client system: iPad 4 running iOS 8.1.1
    Client language/locale: US English
    Client app: MRD 8.1.5
Server system: 64-bit Windows 8.1 Pro
    Server language/locale: US English
Problem: client-side keyboard in MRD 8.1.5 does not work properly within VMware Player 6 console only
When interacting with VMs through the VMware Player 6 console app on the remote Windows 8.1 host, the client-side iPad keyboard for MRD 8.1.5 is not properly mapped. Letter keys and the top-row number keys send function keys or non-standard key scan codes
that aren't used by traditional PC keyboards. The spacebar sends the D key, and some keys send nothing at all. Many other keys work properly, including the client-side numeric keypad, and uppercase letters sent by using the Shift key (but not the iPad up-arrow
shift key). The only way to send the proper keystrokes to VMware Player from MRD 8.1.5 is to not use the client-side iPad keyboard and instead switch to the on-screen keyboard provided by the remote Windows server.
This problem only occurs within the VMware Player console app, and only with RDP connections that use the MRD 8.1.5 client on iOS. I do not encounter the problem with other iOS RD clients such as iFreeRDP by Thinstuff or Pocket Cloud Remote Desktop by Wyse.
    Steps to reproduce:
Connect to Windows 8.1 Pro system from the MRD 8.1.5 client for iOS 8.1.1
Using the client-side iPad keyboard within MRD 8.1.5, bring up the Run dialog by typing Windows-R
Launch Notepad by typing notepad.exe in the Run dialog and pressing Enter on the client-side iPad keyboard
Type some sample text in Notepad until you're confident that the client-side iPad keyboard is functioning properly
Launch VMware Player 6 and start up a VM (mine was Windows Server 2008)
Open the sign-on prompt in the VM by sending Ctrl-Alt-Ins from the client-side keyboard or by pressing the Ctrl-Alt-Del icon in VMware Player
Touch or click in the password field in the VM to ensure it has keyboard focus
Using the client-side keyboard, try to type letters or numbers in the password field, and notice that dots generally do not appear for most keypresses
Switch to the server-side on-screen keyboard and delete the contents of the password field if it is not already empty
Use the server-side on-screen keyboard to sign on to the VM
Inside the VM, open Notepad or some other text editor
Enter text into the editor from both the client-side and server-side keyboards to verify that only the server-side keyboard is functioning properly within the VM
This issue is the only problem I'm having with MRD for iOS, and I hope it is resolved soon.

  • Trying to install Vmware Player on OEL 4-kernel 2.6.9-78.0.0.0.1.ELhugemem

    All
I need to run a preconfigured Vmware VM on one of ours Enterprise Linux servers. I've already installed VMware-Player-3.1.2-301548.i386.bundle on the machine, no error message, but now when I try to run vmplayer I am getting the following message:
before you can run vmware, several modules must be compiled and loaded into the running kernel:
    kernel headers 2.6.9-78.0.0.0.1.ELHugemem
kernel headers for version 2.6.9-78.0.0.0.1.ELHugemem were not found...
I've already searched both on google and on Oracle website for a package containing this version of kernel headers, but didn't find them.
I've did an up2date -i kernel-devel, some kernel headers got installed, but it seems they are at the wrong version:
    [root@dscdap01 ~]# ls -la /usr/src/kernels/
    total 24
    drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 4096 Nov 2 06:59 .
    drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 4096 Dec 4 2008 ..
    drwxr-xr-x 17 root root 4096 Nov 1 09:42 2.6.9-89.31.1.0.1.EL-hugemem-i686
    drwxr-xr-x 17 root root 4096 Nov 2 06:59 2.6.9-89.31.1.0.1.EL-i686
As far as I can see, I have two paths for solving this:
1: update the running kernel to 2.6.9-89.31.1.0.1.EL-hugemem-i686 - in order to do that I'll have to restart the machine, which is quite risky because this is an important machine used for many projects and I do not have physical access to it; in case something goes wrong I'll have to make an SR to the GIT guys, and pray for a quick resolution
    2. find this particular version on kernel headers (2.6.9-78.0.0.0.1.ELHugemem), install them in a non-standard location and then point vmplayer installer to that location in order to compile and plug them into the running kernel
    Questions:
    - If I choose the 2nd path:
-- where can I find this particular kernel headers version?
-- after vmplayer compiles them, will it request a machine restart, or plugging them into the running kernel will be possible without restart?
-- I already did an up2date -u, so the entire system excepting the running kernel is updated to whatever is in Oracle's internal repositories. Will this conflict somehow with an older running kernel and modules?
-If I choose the 1th path (update the kernel itself and reboot the machine):
-- will then vmplayer be able to compile and install the kernel modules without asking for another restart?
Thanks a lot for your feedback.
Any idea is appreciated, even pointing me to someone in Oracle that might help (I am an Oracle employee) would be useful.
    Regards
    Serban

Thanks for your reply Joe. I did not realise that I shall search for the package name without "ELHugemem" part since the headers are probably the same. Please correct me if I'm wrong here.
So I downloaded the i686 package, but now I get this message:
    [root@dscdap01 ~]# rpm -iv kernel-devel-2.6.9-78.0.1.EL.i686.rpm
warning: kernel-devel-2.6.9-78.0.1.EL.i686.rpm: V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID 82fd17b2
    Preparing packages for installation...
package kernel-devel-2.6.9-89.31.1.0.1.EL (which is newer than kernel-devel-2.6.9-78.0.1.EL) is already installed
I am not sure if I shall do a "rpm -ivf" for this package, forcing it to install. Will this command install the package alongside the existing one, or will it overwrite it? My guess is that it will install it alongside the existing one, but since this system is an important one I would prefer to ask before doing any stupid mistake...

  • How to install vmware tools in cucm on Vmware Player

I'm running CUCM 8.0.1 and Unity Connection 8.0.1 on VMWare Player.  I need to install the VMWare Tools.  I'm using the COP file from the CCO (ciscocm.vmtoolsUpgrade4.1-8.3.2-257589-v14.cop.sgn).  However, it's not loading. I Clicked Install VMWare Tools from Player so the CDRom is mounted and has the COP file in it, but I can't seem to get the path.  The connection is use physical device /dev/cdrom and I have a burned COP file in the dvd drive.  I keep getting "The directory could not be located."
I have NTP enabled and "the NTP Service is accessible"
I tried the Remote File System but keep getting the error: "An unknown error occurred while accessing the upgrade file."  I tried different files, e.g. locale file, but get the same error.  Is there something else I need to do on the VM?  The Host machine is Ubuntu 12.04 32 bit.
Is there a document on this?  VMWare Player is ver 6.0.  The VMs were built in VMWare server 2.0 a while back.

Thanks for the link.  It is for vSphere and I'm using Player so Step 2 is a little different.  I choose Virtual Machine>Upgrade VMWare Tools.  The settings are set to "use ISO file" and the path is to the linux.iso file.
When I run the 'utils vmtools upgrade' command, it says: "Executed command unsuccessfully, no valid command entered"
    Any other procedures to try?

  • How to install Oracle Enterprised Linux on VMware PLayer 4

    Hi Everyone,
My name is John and I've a small issue which I would like to share with you and hopefully, you are able to assist.
My laptop is installed with a Window 7 Home Edition operating system and I've installed VMware-player-4.0.2. After reboot, I've also downloaded the file - V29609-01 which is the ISO file of Oracle Enterprise Linux 6.2.
After that, I've tried to create a Virtual Machine - Oracle Enterprise Linux using the VMware Player by specifying the path and file name of the V29609-01.iso file on my local c:\ drive. I've tried it several times, but every time it just returns the message - 'pxe-e53 no boot filename received' and it just hangs there without proceeding further. Please let me know what I've done wrong and the correct steps and procedures to solve this problem as this is my first time installing a Linux operating system. Thank you for your assistance.
    Regards,
    John

    Hi,
Can you clarify and explain what is your exact meaning of 'Are you sure you've added the ISO to the VM to boot from?'? Because the following is what I did:
1.) Click the Create A New Virtual Machine.
2.) Select the 'Install disc image file (iso):' option and enter the full path of the V29609-01.iso (Oracle Enterprise Linux 6.2) file that I've downloaded from https://edelivery.oracle.com/. But underneath it, that is a message saying - 'Could not detect which operating systems is in this dsic image. You will need to specify which operating system will be installed.'
    3.) Click 'Next'.
4.) I chose "Linux' under the Guest operating system and chose 'Oracle Enterprise Linux' under the Version drop down.
    5.) Click 'Next'.
6.) I left the Virtual machine name as 'Oracle Enterprise Linux' and click 'Next'.
7.) I set the Maximum disk size to 300 GB and have the 'Split virtual disk into multiple files' option selected and click 'Next'.
8.) I have the 'Power on this virtual machine after creation' checked and click 'Finish'.
9.) A black screen displayed inside the VMware Player saying:
    'CLIENT MAC ADDR: 00 0C 289 ......
    PXE-E53: No Boot filename received
    PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel PXE ROM.
    Operating System not found
10.) And the process just hangs there.

    John

  • Portege R-400 3G modem freezes VMWare Player 3.0 in Windows 7

    Hi all,
I have a following problem need your help.
I have a Portege R-400 with 3G modem build-in. It is installed Windows 7. Everything is fine until I install the VMWare Player 3.0.
Without 3G modem connection, every application still works very well. (I use WiFi most time.)
When I am not able use WiFi and connect with 3G, without starting VMWare Player, the system is frozen in 5 to 20 minutes.
The sympton is no any response for keypad and mouse, but can see HD light in flashing.
Next, I will try Virtual PC from microsoft. It may have same problem, too.
It will be very appreciated if there is any solution for this problem.
    Many Thanks!
    Mike

    Thanks, Dr. Lamp.
I fully agree your analysis. So, over the weekend, I re-install the windows 7 system. Unfortunately, this problem remains.
    From my experience,
    1. this problem is isolated in 3G HSDPA modem.
    2. the 3G modem meeds to be connected.
    3. there is no any other connection available.
So, the potential problems are in:
    1. 3G modem driver.
    2. The way of the host machine (Windows 7) acceses and manages the 3G modem.
    3. The way of VMWare acceses 3G modem.

Since you posted this in the iPod Touch forum and didn't provide enough information to contradict that I am going to say the it can't be done. VMWare does work in iPods.

  • Anyone succeded in installing VMware-Player 3.1.5?

I tried the same thing as for 3.1 and didn't succeeded. I looked at that previous post: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=100128

    moljac024 wrote:
Did anyone try to install VMware player using the official installer?
When it asks for the system services directory I give it "/etc/rc.d"
    After installation:
No rc*.d style init script directories were given to the installer. You must manually add the necessary links to ensure that the vmware service at /etc/rc.d/vmware is automatically started and stopped on startup and shutdown.
I think the crucial part is to
    # mkdir -p /etc/rc.d/vmware.d/rc{0,1,2,3,4,5,6}.d
    # mkdir /etc/rc.d/vmware.d/init.d
I just wonder if a dummy vmware-package could be constructed which just does that. There would be the benefit that these directories could also be easily removed.

  • Uninstall of VMware Player breaks Remote Control - Fix?

    Hi all,
I've had VMware Player 2.5 installed on some of my workstations, and we've recently (thanks to ZAV) been able to remove it. Unfortunately, the uninstall of VMware Player 2.5 breaks the ability to remote control the workstation. I see the service running, but it no longer responds to either the Zenworks Control Center or the TightVNC viewer on any port.
I've tried turning the firewall off, still broken
I've tried ZAC CC and ZAC REF on the workstations, still broken.
I've tried extracting and manually rerunning the Remote Management MSIs on the Agent...
Remote Policy shows good, no outward errors
Anyone know of a what might be causing this issue? Only way I can fix it is to go to the machine, uninstall and reinstall the Zenworks Agent... ugh...
    Thanks,
    Merrell
