3D anomaly in PS CS5

Hi all!
I have a 3ds file, a mere 12mb car modell, that opens easily in PS CS4.
PS CS5 finds it self short on RAM with the exact same file and refuses loading it.
Other 3ds files open properly.....
I fumbled a bit with settings, but to no avail so far...
Any hint on that one?
Thanks to all, dearly, for taking the time.
Cheers,
Erbs

PS CS5 loads the CS4 PAD with the said 3D layer.

I'll try to mail it to you, or send you a download link.

  • CS4 project to CS5 anomaly

Previous project was 1080 from a digital camera.
When I imported a previous CS4 PAL DV project into CS5, all the sequences were set to 1080 not DV.
I added a DV sequence, gave up and tried again.  This time the sequences were DV as they should have been originally.
This suggests that there might be an anomaly sometimes when importing projects from CS4 to CS5 when they are of different types from the immediately previous work in CS5.
Working OK now, but posted so there is a record in case others have the same problem.

If I can repeat it, or others report the same issue, I'll certainly put in a bug report.  But as of now it could easily be a one-off from a particular project.

  • Very strange anomaly in PDFs generated from InDesign CS5

This is going to take some explaining, so bear with me. I have a bog standard InDesign file, same as every other file I've handled since we upraded to CS5. The file features lots of text in a 2-column format, which has been styled using a defined paragraph style sheet. On generating a PDF of the file for printing, a couple of random chunks of text (as in about two-thirds of one line in separate places) appeared to be bold. Initially, I assumed it was because they were in 4-colour black (it had that kind of appearance), but rechecking the file showed that the text was clean - the only thing was that the paragraph style applied had been deviated from slightly by the application of a different tracking value. So nothing there. As the original source of the text was a placed InCopy file, I also extracted that and viewed its XML, again, it showed no obvious differences applied to the text that appeared bold. Cleaning the paragraph style in InDesign, however, (alt shift click) resolved the problem.
Wanting to know more, I took the PDF into Illustrator, and there the reason for the bold text became obvious. Those sentence fragments had the same letters repeated and pasted over the top three or four times. Even more interesting, if in InDesign I changed the format from 2 to 3 columns (thereby forcing the text to reflow), the PDF worked perfectly. Switching back to the 2-column format made the problem come back again.
Now I have never seen anything like this, and I am stumped as to what might be causing it. I can't see what might have been applied to the text in InDeisgn to generate this as an outcome. Has anyone got any ideas???
Here is a screen shot of the text in the PDF:
And here is a screen shot of the text in Illustrator, showing the repeated characters that were tacked up to create this effect:

I didn't need to export to INX. This happened to random lines of text, and checking in Acrobat Pro revealed the text strings were doubled.
Nice one: http://forums.adobe.com/message/3299371 mentions this problem and the OP could solve it himself. Doesn't mention how tho'

  • DW CS5 modify template head anomaly

    Hi
I have an established site based on a single template with external css defined outside an editable region below the default editable region into which the page title can be inserted.
To override a CSS class on one page, I added the new style into the title editable region which is above the point where the external css gets included, but this does not result in the modified style being applied.
To overcome this, I added an additional editable region just above the </head> tag in the template expecting that it would propagate across the site when saved.
What actually happened was that the editable region relocated itself to just below the <head> section both in the template and the child pages - ie to after the </head> tag and before the <body> tag.  If I move the new editable region so it is no longer the final line before the </head> tag, then it works as expected.
This smells like a bug in CS5, but before I report it I thought I'd better check to see if this is a universal issue or just on my system.
    Comments please.

Well, the code validated OK in DW with no errors and looked OK to me, but you're welcome to see if you can spot something in the head region where the problem occurred.  Edit Region 5 is what caused the problem - below it is in the position that works - nothing else is different.  I have removed my Google Analytics ID and added two CAPITALISED comments to show where the problem occurred.
The trigger for the unwanted move was saving the template and propagating the change to child page, which resulted in the move both in the template and the children.  If there was an error, then I would expect an error message of some sort, not unilateral unwanted editing.

  • Another bug - CS4 to CS5 Layer Drag

I've repeated this on two different MacPro/Intel computers running Leopard 10.5.8.
We prefer to use ContactSheet II in order to make contact sheets for import into InDesign and then printing through ColorBurst RIP. As mentioned in another thread, the best workaround offered was to run CS5 in 64-bit and run CS4 when needing 32-bit-compatible functionality such as this.
We also use ContactSheet II to make contact sheets for printing CD case inserts, and this is how I discovered this particular anomaly.
I have my layered master TIF file open in CS5 which is where I want to place my contact sheet and then print. The file is 5.4 x 4.65" @ 300ppi, 8bits/channel.
    I've just made a contact sheet in CS4 at 5 x 3.5" and the result is @ 300ppi, 8bits/channel.
There are two ways to quickly move this into my CS5 file:
Command-click on the image and drag into my CS5 image window - or - select all in CS4 and paste in CS5.
After doing this, the new layer (regardless of the method of moving it into CS5) is minute in size, actually 1.2 x 0.84" @300ppi.
The workaround was to save the contact sheet from CS4 and then open that file in CS5 and the size is not affected.
Again, this was repeated on another computer, but I have no clue as to why this is happening but it appears to be a bug. I'm aware I can just do the whole operation in CS4 from start to finish.
    Any thoughts on this?

Thanks Jeff - ya,sorry, I should've specified. I'm running Win 7 64-bit and I have Production Premium CS4 on the system now. Ideally I would deactivate and uninstall it before I load CS5.5 Production Premium.
My only reasoning is to save on SSD space. Is there any reason to keep CS4 on the machine, other than possible problems with CS5.5?
Thanks again for your reply Jeff.

  • Merge to HDR Pro Anomaly

    Hi:
This is an open message more for the Adobe engineers than Forum members.  I have reported in the recent past that I can't get Merge to HDR Pro and Photomerge to work in 64 bit mode without crashing.  I just discovered an anomaly associated with this problem.  Out of desperation I shut off Enable Open GL Drawing to see what might happen.  The crashing still occurs but when I went back to Preferences I found that the Open GL option was checked again.  I then made other changes to the Tile Size and the History States and sure enough after attempting HDR, all the changes were back to default positions.  I don't know what this indicates but I thought I would report it in case this helps with the diagnosis of the problem.

As I posted on this thread:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/2901177#2901177
trashing the "Adobe Photoshop CS5 Settings" solved the problem for me.
    Hope this helps.

  • Importing project from Pro 1.5 to CS5

I just purchased an iMac. Loaded CS5, but could not import a project I worked hard on Adobe Premier Pro 1.5. I get an error message that reads "This project was saved in a version prior to Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 and cannot be opened on a Mac."
Can anyone give me advise as to how best I can import my old projects?
    Regards,
    Ban

    GLenn,
Good work, and there will be something extra in your Adobe payroll envelope.
The problem with the PrPro 1.5 to CS5 Mac, is that there was no PrPro 1.5 Mac version. With older Pr versions, say 6.5, there is not a platform limitation. Older (pre Pro) Mac Projects work fine in my PC. With the Pro introduction, PrPro 1.0/Pr 7.0/PrPro 7.0 (rather an anomaly), Mac support was stopped, until CS3. This created a gap, with ONLY PC versions, and no Mac compatibility. As Harm and GLenn pointed out, the only workflow is to take the older PRPROJ file (created on a PC), and Improt/Open - Save (essentially Converting it) in version CS3 on the PC, and that will allow a Mac to use the PRPROJ file.
This is when it pays to have friends on PC's, running PrPRo, so that they can do the Conversion for you. Baring that, then it's great to have folk, like GLenn, on the forum, who will do it for you. It's simple, so long as there is a PC, running CS3, or later, to get those Projects into a format/version, that the Mac can read. Time for some "bi-partisan" cooperation.
Glad that you got it to work, and happy editing.
    Hunt
PS - one little caveat: There are differences in the Effects & Transitions, between the platforms, so a Project that was created in PrPro 1.5 (or 1.0, or 2.0), might have Effects, or Transitions, that do not exist on the Mac. Also, if one had 3rd party Effects or Transitions on the older PC, then those might show as missing, when the Project Opens on the Mac. In most cases, PrPro is very good at pointing out the exact location, and more details, where those appear. One can then just make note of the location, and go there to replace the missing Effect, or Transition, with one that does exist on the Mac. For me, going from Mac to PC, this process has been perfect, but I cannot say that it would be in all cases going from PC to Mac.

  • Indesign CS5 and Export to PDF

    Hi Group!
    Got a weird one here...
I've searched high and low for this but, I have a user who i just recently upgraded to CS5 (company still on CS4 for internal reasons), and noticed a strange anomaly when exporting to PDF. For whatever reason, somewhere within the operating system and/or application(s) when the IDCS5 file is exported to PDF, as soon at the PDF hits the desktop, or where ever the PDF file is saved to, Acrobat opens the file immediately after. Even before the PDF has finished ripping. Where do you suppose this setting is to open PDFs automatically like this? Anyone seen this? Thanks!

    Hi Bob,
Maybe you can help with the CS5 problem that sends Acrobat to the background after automatically opening the pdf I just created with the "view pdf after exporting" box checked. In all previous versions, and in Illustrator, the pdf opens nicely in Acrobat and stays in the foreground so I can look at it, and send it as an attachment, etc.

    Hi Noel,
Yeah, I kind of made a long story short.  I have a display anomaly as well.  Two different display cards, two different driver families.  Here's the URL for that thread:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/2974532#2974532
Removing all remnants of drivers usually includes editing the registry.  I haven't come across instructions of what to do in that regard.  I uninstalled CS3 (my most recent PS version) and uninstalled all plugins except Portraiture by Imagenomic.  Portraiture crashes Photoshop a lot when I use it.  After installing CS3 I defragged my drives then ran CCleaner and cleaned the registry.  After uninstalling CS5 I defragged again and reinstalled it.
There is something badly wrong with my system, but it only shows up when using PS CS5.  Is there a diagnostic for driver conflicts?
This is my last system running Windows XP.  I plan on retiring it as soon as I can bring my latest build up to snuff.  I'm dreading installing Office 2007 on the now PC and having activation problems.  I want to make sure Office works on the new PC before decommissioning the one this thread is about.  I'm also waiting for Dreamweaver CS5.  DW 8 won't run on the new Windows 7 64-bit PC.  I ordered it four days ago and can't get a response from Newegg.  I should have had it today, but my order is still showing "charged"!

  • CS5.02 w/MPE turns off Aero Glass

I have a new Dell Precision T5500 workstation(X5560 CPU, 12GB Ram, PNY Quadro 4000, Win7 Ultimate 64-bit) running CS5 MC.  AE looks and works great. PPro CS5.02 loads and looks correct but, once a project has loaded with the Mercury Playback Engine(MPE) enabled, all Aero Glass effects for Window Color and Appearance get switched off.  Resulting in what looks like the default Windows 7 Basic properties and color scheme(Baby Blue with no transparency).
PPro captures, edits and outputs fine.  And once PPro is exited, the Win7 desktop, visually, returns to my "normal" saved Theme.  While PPro is running, the Win7 Personalization page shows that my saved Theme is loaded.  Clicking it's icon to reload the settings doesn't cause any visual changes.  Selecting the Window Color icon brings up the Window Color and Appearance tool which has a message stating that Windows Aero is off, etc.
If I remove the Quadro 4000 entry from the cuda_supported_cards.txt file, essentially disabling the hardware MPE, Aero Glass stays on while PPro runs.  Except now I have to render effects since Premiere is using the software MPE.
The NVidia driver is from 10/16/2010( 8.17.12.5993 ).  Everything else on this machine(HW/SW) is up to date and is working great.  I haven't been able to find any mention of this anomaly here or on other CS5 or NVidia related forums.  Has anyone seen/heard of this?  Is there somebody else using the Quadro 4000 with CS5?

Thanks, I checked out the search results of the link posted.
I grabbed and ran Microsoft's Mats_Run.aero.exe tool.  Funny thing, even with Premiere running that tool still says there are no issues with my system.  Plus I don't get a systray message saying something to the effect of "aero is turned off" like other folks report in the MS Answers forums when things like this happen.  Anyway, like I said previously, I can live with this "feature" while I'm using PPro and so far with my hardware, my AE usage hasn't been effected.
    Thanks All,

  • Tell if CS5 or CS5.5 at a glance?

Is there a way to know if an After Effects Project File is CS5 or CS5.5 at a glance? I mean by just clicking on the info or something? (Running a Mac). I have 5.5 and I down save them to 5 to send them to people and I was wondering if there was a faster way to tell than just opening every single file and checking it in AE. Thanks!

If you open an AEP file in a text editor like BBEdit you can actually
see which version of AE created it by looking in the meta data at the
    end of the file:
    <xmp:CreatorTool>Adobe After Effects CS5.5 10.5 Macintosh 64</xmp:CreatorTool>
I can't find anything in the file that shows which version of file it
    was saved as, though...
Opening a binary file like this in a text editor always comes with a
risk of you accidentally changing something that will make your file
    corrupt, so be careful.

  • DW CS5 will not open pages from local view sidebar

Using the latest DW and having a major issue. Sites are visible through manage sites; all is fine with settings. However, when I open a site to edit, if I try to click on the right side (local view) to open the html pages, DW gives me an error message - for example -  "HD/user/site/xxxx.html not found" but if I open the file from the menu, it opens. I can edit but not "put" the file or add to the remote server manually. I thought one of the site's files was corrupt but then I realized it's happening for all my sites (which work fine on my laptop - also running same version of DW). Is one of the DW settings off? Should I reinstall? Has anyone encountered this issue? Thanks in advance.

Well, I don't have CS5 and I've never seen this problem before, but I would start with deleting and then re-creating the site definition.

  • After Effects CS5.5 Wont Open - Application Just Bounces In The Dock.

    Hi all,
I appear to have encountered a problem with After Effects... I was working on a project earlier today which usalizes a VideoCopilot plug-in called Element 3D. After a quick break I came back to the project and attempted to load in the 'Free Earth Project' by VideoCopilot. (http://www.videocopilot.net/blog/2012/08/free-earth-project-for-element-3d/). As their site suggests, I had to place a downloaded project folder called 'Earth' into Element 3D's 'My_Models' folder. Immediately after this I tried loading After Effects and encountered the issue. I'm not sure if it's couincidence or directly related which is why I am posting here.
After Effects does nothing but bounce in the Dock. When I right-click the application I'm met with a 'Force Quit' option, and a message saying "Application not responding". I'm on OS X 10.7.4. I'm not able to tell you what version of AE I'm running, only that it's CS5.5, as I cannot lanch it to find out. All other Adobe products work with no problem.
I have already contacted the support team at VideoCopilot and they have sent me an updated build of Element 3D in an attempt to resolve the issue, unfortunately though this did not work. Addiitonally, I have tried booting into Safe-Mode and tried to launch the application from there, as well as using Disk-Utility to 'Repair Permissions'. All of these steps have failed to get AE working again.
If anyone knows of a way to fix this I would be most grateful. I'm working to a very tight deadline and am afraid that I will miss it. Additionally, if anyone has any fixes that doesn't require reinstalling applications that'll be a bonus!
I've also attached a crash-report to this post incase it's of any use in determining the cause of the problem (I couldn't find a way to attach it directly, so the file is hosted on my website - I apologise in advance if this is against forum rules!) -  http://www.starfireindustries.org.uk/uploads/8/6/6/1/8661295/ae_error_report.rtf
    Thanks in advance,
    John.
