3D Applications advise

Hi,
although it's a Motion forum, I think that it is a good place to ask about it here.
Here there are many people creating advanced graphics and animations using not only Motion but as well AE and some 3D Apps (I suppose).
So, my question is: what 3D Application can you recommend me folks?
What advantagies and disadvantagies are in specific application?
Now, why I need it:
My wife is an architect and due to her contacts with her customers - it looks that maybe we will have some works for them. But except of her architectural job, I will attend to do visualisation of her works (buildings and interior designs).
Many years ago I was working with 3D Studio (on PC), after that I was using Electric Image (on Mac) and Infini 3D (for some easy works), but it was quite long ago and everything changed. But I have some knowledge how to do 3D scene.
Recently I download some trials of Strata 3D, Maya, Cinema 4D, but during 30 days it is not so easy to decide which one is the best for me. And thats not every possible Apps.
Except of architectural visualisations I will sometimes use this application for preparing some 3D elements for my animation in Motion etc. Of course I don't think about makeing 3D movies like a PIXAR studio - so, I don't need the most expensive and the most advanced application.
What can you recommend? I hope on your answer.
Marek.

Hi,
SketchUp is rather for fun, not for professional use.
I need a program which can:
1. open .3ds files,
2. preparing 3D scene and render realistic visualisations,
3. and of course, I will be able to do animation using created scene
4. doing some effects on created objects
With a trial version of Strata 3D CX, I made some pictures, if somebody wants to see - they are here:
http://www.omart.pl/public/Piec%20kaflowy.jpg
http://www.omart.pl/public/kuchnia.jpg
http://www.omart.pl/public/kominek.jpg
So, I need this kind of quality.
OK. Somebody can say - why am I asking, while already doing this.
Because with about 700 $ or more I can buy Strata, LightWave, Cinema 4D, SoftImage, 3D Studio, ElectricImage and I don't know how many more programs. I would like to choice the most universal and useful for me.
Strata is very nice, but I am not sure, maybe another program which costs similiar can be better.
So, any advice will be appreciate.
Marek.

  • Connection pooling and auditing on an oracle database

Integration of a weblogic application with an oracle backend,
Connection pooling, and auditing ,2 conflicting requirements ?
    Problem statement :
We are in the process of maintaining a legacy client server application where
    the client is
written in PowerBuilder and the backend is using an Oracle database.
Almost all business logic is implemented in stored procedures on the database.
When working in client/server mode ,1 PowerBuilder User has a one-to-one relation
    with
a connection(session) on the oracle database.
It is a requirement that the database administrator must see the real user connected
    to the database
and NOT some kind of superuser, therefore in the PowerBuilder app each user connects
    to the database
with his own username.(Each user is configured on the database via a seperate
    powerbuilder security app).
For the PowerBuilder app all is fine and this app can maintain conversional state(setting
    and
reading of global variables in oracle packages).
The management is pushing for web-based application where we will be using bea
    weblogic appserver(J2EE based).
We have build an business app which is web-based and accessing the same oracle
    backend app as
    the PowerBuilder app is doing.
The first version of this web-based app is using a custom build connector(based
    on JCA standard and
derived from a template provided by the weblogic integration installation).
This custom build connector is essentially a combination of a custom realm in
    weblogic terms
and a degraded connection pool , where each web session(browser) has a one-to-one
    relation
    with the back end database.
The reason that this custom connector is combining the security functionality
    and the pooling
functionality , is because each user must be authenticated against the oracle
    database(security requirement)
and NOT against a LDAP server, and we are using a statefull backend(oracle packages)
    which would make it
    difficult to reuse connections.
A problem that surfaced while doing heavy loadtesting with the custom connector,
is that sometimes connections are closed and new ones made in the midst of a transaction.
If you imagine a scenario where a session bean creates a business entity ,and
    the session bean
calls 1 entity bean for the header and 1 entity bean for the detail, then the
    header and detail
must be created in the same transaction AND with the same connection(there is
    a parent-child relationship
between header and detail enforced on the back end database via Primary and Foreing
    Keys).
We have not yet found why weblogic is closing the connection!
A second problem that we are experincing with the custom connector, is the use
    of CMP(container managed persistence)
    within entity beans.
The J2EE developers state that the use of CMP decreases the develoment time and
    thus also maintenance costs.
We have not yet found a way to integrate a custom connector with the CMP persistence
    scheme !
In order to solve our loadtesting and CMP persistence problems i was asked to
    come up with a solution
which should not use a custom connector, but use standard connection pools from
    weblogic.
To resolve the authentication problem on weblogic i could make a custom realm
    which connects to the
backend database with the username and password, and if the connection is ok ,
    i could consider this
    user as authenticated in weblogic.
That still leaves me with the problem of auditing and pooling.
If i were to use a standard connection pool, then all transaction made in the oracle
    database
would be done by a pool user or super user, a solution which will be rejected
    by our local security officer,
because you can not see which real user made a transaction in the database.
I could still use the connection pool and in the application , advise the application
    developers
to set an oracle package variable with the real user, then on arrival of the request
    in the database,
the logic could use this package variable to set the transaction user.
There are still problems with this approach :
    - The administrator of the database can still not see who is connected , he will
    only see the superuser connection.
    - This scheme can not be used when you want to use CMP persistence , since it
is weblogic who will generate the code
    to access the database.
I thought i had a solution when oracle provided us with a connection pool known
    as OracleOCIConnectionPool
where there is a connection made by a superuser, but where sessions are multiplexed
over this physical pipe with the real user.
I can not seem to properly integrate this OCI connectionpool into weblogic.
When using this pool , and we are coming into a bean (session or entity bean)
    weblogic is wrapping
this pool with it's own internal Datasource and giving me back a connection of
the superuser, but not one for the real user,
thus setting me with my back to the wall again.
I would appreciate if anyone had experienced the same problem to share a possible
    solution with us
in order to satisfy all requirements(security, auditing,CMP).
    Many Thanks

    Hi Blyau,
As Joe has already provided some technical advice,
I'll try to say something on engineering process level.
While migrating an application from one technology to
other, like client-server to n-tier in you case, customers and
stakeholders want to push into the new system as many old
requirements as possible. This approach is AKA "we must
have ALL of the features of the old system". Mostly it happens
because they don't know what they want. Ad little understanding
of abilities of the new technology, and you will get a requirement
like the one you have in you hands.
I think "DBA must see real user" is one of those. For this
type of requirements it can make sense to try to drop it,
or to understand its nature and suggest alternatives. In this
particular case it can be a system that logs user names,
    login and logout times.
Blind copying of old features into an incompatible new architecture
may endanger the whole project and can result in its failure.
    Hope this helps.

  • Where can I find $HOME/public_html for dowloaded files on windows?

    Hi ,
I am new to PHP. The tutorial on running the PHP application advises to put the following files ( hr.php ,hr_cn.inc, hr_ui.inc,hr_db.inc ,styles.css ) in the $HOME/public_html directory on unix platforms. I am using windows version of the program, so where is the equivalent of $HOME/public_html on windows?
Can anyone let me know please?

On Windows, PHP files can be put in a couple of places for the "Oracle
Database Express Edition 2 Day Plus PHP Developer Guide":
    http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B25329_01/doc/appdev.102/b25317/toc.htm
    and the Oracle XE Tutorial:
    http://st-curriculum.oracle.com/tutorial/DBXETutorial/index.htm
    1. Check the DocumentRoot parameter in httpd.conf, e.g.
    DocumentRoot "C:/Program Files/Apache Group/Apache2/htdocs"
    Files like C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache2\htdocs\chap1\file.php can
be loaded in a browser using http://localhost/chap1/file.php
    2. Edit httpd.conf and set UserDir to your favorite location e.g.:
    <IfModule mod_userdir.c>
    UserDir "C:/Program Files/Apache Group/Apache2/users/"
    </IfModule>
    Files like C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache2\users\cjones\chap1\file.php
    can be loaded with http://localhost/~cjones/chap1/file.php
On Windows the Beta release of Oracle XE has problems when Instant
Client is in the PATH environment variable, so Zend Core for Oracle
can't be used just yet (this problem does not affect Linux).
Until the next Oracle XE drop is available, ZCO can be substituted
with standard Windows PHP 5.0 binaries from:
    http://snaps.php.net/
The OCI8 extension for PHP must be updated from:
    http://pecl4win.php.net/ext.php/php_oci8.dll
Stop Apache. Copy the new php_oci8.dll into PHP's ext directory
replacing the old DLL. Restart Apache.
Other instructions for installing non-ZCO PHP on Windows can be found at:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/php/htdocs/inst_php_apache_windows.html
Personally, I don't copy php.ini as shown in step 2, and don't copy
    php5ts.dll or php_oci8.dll as shown in step 4. I leave the dll's
where they are and simply copy php.ini to
    c:/Program Files/Apache Group/Apache2/php.ini and set its
extension_dir directive to, for example, "c:\php5.0-win32-200511031730\ext"
In a new thread on this forum I'll post a couple of typos I've
reported in the Beta "2 Day Plus PHP Developer Guide".

  • Master Data not updating

We have found that are master data text isn't updating in APO from BW.  I can see that the data is in the APO PSA but doesn't reflect in the master data object.  We tried deleting the master data but the application advises that you cannot delete master data that's being referenced.
    Are these problems related?
Why will the master data descriptions not update?
    Please suggest a solution.

We have are pulling the description text from BW into APO via a master text load.  I am loading the data into the PSA and then into the maste data object.  The PSA shows the correct description.  When I view the master data, the description is empty.  We are updating 0LANGU, QSMATNR, and 0TXTLG.  When I look at the info object table /BIC/TQSMATNR, there are no table entries.

  • Cannot upgrade to 9.4.3

    Good morning all,
I am currently running iPhoto '11 version 9.2.1 (628).  When i check for updates the application advises that 9.4.3 is available and would i like to Open Software Update.
On doing this there is no update available.
I have subsequently downloaded version 9.4.3 but this will not update iPhoto.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Alan

Move all three applications back to the top "Applications" folder, if you want to be able to update them; it should look like this:
For applications, that need to be upgraded from the AppStore, subfolders are no longer supported. You could group them in the "Launchpad" however, if you want to organize them. Dragging applications on top of each other in the Launchpad will create folders there for quicker access - just in case you like to use the Launchpad.

Also I now administer the teams and have accepted the invitation to I received to be a team member and download the apps.  The admin page shows that I have been sent an invitation but does not show my account as "ACtive" unlike my other team members.  I tried to use the link in the invite to accept it become active but the link displayed an error saying I had already accepted the invite... why is no account not active?
Finally what other product downloads in Creative Cloud do not actually download as part of the Creative cloud Packager for downloading the apps? e.g. acrobat and what else?

Electronic voice: thank you for calling apple. We are now closed" So now I have 2 problems: the adviser had got me to reset so bye bye wifi passwords and settings. And then when he phones back as we agreed he's not actually on the phone, it's just a voice saying Apple Support is now closed! What on earth is going on at apple support I wonder.
Anyway, the original problem: an application called JotNot Pro fails to update. The error message says something like "you cannot update this cos either you bought it with a different Apple ID or somebody else bought it."
    Neither applies. Can anybody help?

You might have better luck contacting the app's support or developers.

    I have a Windows PC - OS: Win 7 Home Premium, SP1
I recently had to have my hard drive replaced and, as result, had to reinstall the Adobe products I own: Acrobat 10, Premiere Elements & Photoshop 9
I assume as part of reinstalling the software the Adobe Application Manager was installed as well - regardless, it indicates 'updates are available' -- however when I open the updater I am receiving the error message:

    Photoshop Camera Raw 6.5 Update
There was an error downloading this update. Please quit and try again later.

    Please advise!! thank you kindly
(secondary problem: whenever I open Elements or Photoshop and I am asked to log in with my Adobe ID, I get the error message 'Error. Photoshop.com services are currently unavailable. Please try again later or check your network connections. Error 400'. Now I know photoshop.com was replaced with Revel - but why is it consistently giving me the same error message? shouldn't it be updated by now or, specifically, is this indicative of a different problem when I attempt to login with my Adobe ID??)
thank you so much for any help provided!!

I don't know why you are getting these errors.  Try downloading & installing the updates manually from http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates.html

Hi, I have a sign being advised Power PC Applications no longer supported when I try to go into Microsoft Word, Excel, Entourage & MSN Messenger, hoe do I resolve this? Any help appreciated Sorry, this is for a Mac Air

Most versions of Office 2008 use an Universal installer. A few have one which is PowerPC-only.
In any case, Mac OS X Server 10.6 can be run in emulation, and Rosetta applications can be run in it. Saying that PowerPC-only applications won't run in Mac OS X 10.7 is correct. Saying that they won't run on a Mac which shipped with Mac OS X 10.7 is not.

    If you are using Lion:
Dealing With The Resume Feature of Lion
Managing Mac OS X Lion's application resume feature.
If you shutdown your computer you should get a dialog asking if you want applications to resume on the next startup. Simply uncheck the box to prevent that from occurring. Open General preferences and uncheck the option to Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps. You can also install a third-party utility to control resume features on individual applications: RestoreMeNot or Application State Cleaner.
It is possible to completely stop the Resume feature although I'm unconvinced that it is that annoying. Nevertheless see the following:
If you have not yet done so you must first make your /Home/Library/ folder visible. Open the Terminal application in the Utilities folder. At the prompt paste the following command line:
    chflags nohidden ~/Library
Press RETURN. Quit the Terminal application.
In the Finder navigate to the /Home/Library/Saved Application State/ folder. Delete the contents of the folder. Back up to the /Home/Library/ folder. Select the Saved Application State folder. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. In the Sharing and Permissions panel at the bottom click on the lock icon and authenticate. Set each of the listed entries to Read Only. Close the Get Info window.
Quit all open programs except the Finder (this is very important.) Next, navigate to the /Home/Library/Preferences/ByHost/ folder. Look for a .plist file with "com.apple.loginwindow." in the file name followed by some numbers in hexadecimal. Select the file. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window and in the Sharing and Permissions panel click on the lock icon and authenticate. Set each of the listed entries to Read Only. Close the Get Info window. If you also find a file with the same filename but with a last extension of ".lockfile," then you should delete it.
The above should eliminate the Resume feature system-wide. Note that any future system updates or upgrades will likely undo these changes. You will then need to repeat this procedure assuming there are no major changes in OS X related to it.
