3D Cameras & Null
Hi all,
I am using Adobe Production Studio Premium CS3. I have created clouds using particular with a 3d camera (field of depth is turned on) and a null pick wick is linked to the clouds. The camera only moves on it's Z axis (moving forward, so no particular complex movements.) So you can see the camera flying through the clouds in a staright line.
I have then imported a JPEG image looking down at ocean and land. I have then made the JPEG image into 3D and have done nothing else.
The problem is here. When I put the JPEG into 3D it moves with the clouds 3D and null.
Why?
All I want to do with the JPEG image is for the image to move on it's Z axis at a slower speed than the clouds.
But how do I achieve this?
Thank you
josel
Hi
I have placed the footage on Youtube which is here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oUctZYNsS-s
Please ignore the first second or two as this is work in progress.
From viewing the footage you can see the camera flies through the clouds and comes out the other end. You will see the JPEG image (the Oceean and smalls bits of clouds.) Now this is the problem you can see the image staying still. I have not placed a null to the JPEG image at all. The only thing I do is press the 3D button to make it into 3D. When I do this the JPEG image moves at the same speeds as the clouds, which is way to fast for the JPEG.(ocean to be moving.)
Hope this helps to understand.
Thank yoy once again
josel

Camera and/or null layers question
Hi - I am having a heck of a time understanding camera null layers. I have 3 separate photos on different layers and a solid background on the bottom layer. i simply want to fly a camera in between the separation of the photos so all three look like they're flying toward or past the camera.
every video tutorial i find seems to have an assumption that i know or understand this but i really don't - i need to start from the very beginning. does anyone know of a nice simple step by step video online that can help me?
thanks.Start here to learn After Effects.
You don't need to use null layers to control cameras. It's just a way to make certain things easier. But it makes things easier at the expense of a somewhat complex setup. If you're a beginner, you don't need to be messing with that.
Here are some useful resources for learning about animating cameras. The ones from Andrew Devis listed in the comments on that page are quite good. -
Multiple rows Converge to Single row and join
Hi Folks,
I am facing a tricky challenge to join a table with multiple rows and converge into a single row (based on ID, period) and join with another table to get a single row. Let me explain.
Table 1: DTL_TABLE (id, period, course, names, title, type)
1 2010 mat john null null
1 2010 mat jim null null
1 2010 cam null officer null
1 2010 cam null Prof null
1 2010 phy null null Inclass
1 2010 phy null null Online
Join with
Table 2: ID_TABLE(id, period, Loc, Dept, Code)
1 2010 nj 101 CC.
Output format (id, period, course, names, title, type, Loc, Dept, Code)
result : 1 2010 mat,cam,phy john,jim officer,prof inclass,online nj 101 CC
I have created all the DDLs and DMLs if that help. Kindly let me know if a Join SQL query is possible.
Thank you,
Aj

Android AIR continuous autofocus doesn't work
Hello!
I am making an application for Android using AIR - it has to make a streaming of video from the camera to server. I started with a simple application which draws rear camera preview on the screen, the code looks like this:
camera = Camera.getCamera("0");
video = new Video(camera.width, camera.height);
video.attachCamera(camera);
And I have three problems when tesing the app on my LG L65 with Android 4.4.2:
1) The preview is very dark. It becomes a bit brighter when I show the lamp, or some other sources of light - the brightness is being adjusted continuously, but when i return back to ordinal views with no really-bright sources - it becomes dark again. The front camera does not have such a problem - the brightness is ok. The most important here is that the native Camera Roll application shows good and bright previews from both cameras, and also, when i test a simple Android app to check camera preview - it also shows good and bright picture from both cameras - so, i have this problem only in AIR application and only for rear camera.
Rear camera preview screenshot From AIR application
Rear camera preview screenshot From Android application
2) I noticed, that the continuous autofocus doesn't work in AIR application - it works (refocuses) only when manually calling Camera.setMode, but the solution of refocusing every, for example, 3 seconds won't fix the problem, because it will hang the video every time for half a second. There was a discussion here: https://forums.adobe.com/message/3775731, whitch led to creation of a bug in bugbase here: https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=2921514, which was closed, but should not. It was concluded there, that if a smartphone does not provide continuous autofocus - it won't work continuously in AIR also. BUT: i checked my LG L65, and also Samsung Galaxy Note 2 for continuous autofocus - made a simple Android application, set the autofocus mode to continious, and it worked for both smartphones. But the AIR continuous autofocus did not, for both LG and Samsung. That's why i really ask you to reopen that bug in a bugbase and try to help to find some solution. The code I use to check continuous autofocus in Android:
parameters.setFocusMode(Parameters.FOCUS_MODE_CONTINUOUS_VIDEO);
camera.setParameters(parameters);
3) I also tried to use flashlight at the same time, as the video is previewed from camera - and failed: we cannot use one camera object in AIR and one in ANE at the same time - we only can release it in one side to work with it in another, by making camera object null in AIR or by calling Camera.release in android. I could only blink the flashlight, using the native extension (make AIR camera null, start flashlight from ANE, release camera object in ANE, make a new camera object in AIR, attach it to video). What would you kindly suggest to do here - to show camera preview and use flashlight at the same time? Are there any possibilities to change android camera parameters to use in AIR camera with help of ANE or anything else? And maybe you are already planning to add some more functionality to Camera class in AIR to use more camera settings?
Hope this post helps other developers when you answer!
I also submitted the 3 bugs here:
https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=3927313
https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=3927321
Also, i have made a feature request for using the flashlight in AIR during the camera preview working:
https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=3927326
And a feature request for controlling the camera parameters of android and use them in AIR camera:
https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=3927339
please, vote it up!
Thanks,
Vassad2214.Same question here. What I'm looking for is a camera app that would focus continually like a web cam. I think that is the tm you should look for in the app store. Or try googling "continuous auto-focus". I'm going to do that now.

Hey guys,
I'm tring to use app.executeCommand(app.findMenuCommandId("Solid...")) to add a solid layer to active comp. But it only add a solid layer to the project panel, instead of adding the solid layer to both project panel and active comp.
It works fine when I use this method to add camera, null or shape layer to active comp.
What should I do?
PS, I don't want to use addSolid() method.app.executeCommand(app.findMenuCommandId("Solid..."))
Works fine for me in CS5.5 on OS X 10.8.2, but I agree with fusepilot, in that you should use the addSolid() method. It's a native option and was engineered specifically to do that task. The whole app.executeCommand(app.findMenuCommandId()) option is an unstable method and was probably meant for Adobe developers to test code quickly or something.
If your reasons for not wanting to use addSolid() are because you want to have the solid options window popup for easy customization of the new solid created, then you can build a GUI to emulate the same task and pipe the results into the addSolid() arguments. Yes, it is a lot more coding, but in the end worth it.
If you are unsure how to code an ExtendScript based GUI, my recent tutorials may help you in that.

Catch exceptions out of catch block
Hello,
Here in my job we was using Log4J , but since some of our logs need complex things like replication for
some databases analise log t see where we will send in and lots of emails too , so we are developing our own log framework, my question is , there is a way to caught exceptions not declared in a try catch block?
Example: IndexOutOfBound some time are not cought in a try catch block, or some files sometimes came null and throws uncauht exceptions some times, there is a way to me listen to all execptions wich was throwed to the system and have a no catch block??
Thank You
RicardoWhen an uncaught exception occurs, the JAVA runtime system determins the ThreadGroup of the current thread and calls "uncaughtException" on that ThreadGroup object. However, the java.lang.ThreadGroup object performs the printing of the stack trace, which you will normally see in such cases.
If you want to modify this behaviour, you could write your own ThreadGroup class, which extends java.lang.ThreadGroup and provides a different implementation of uncaughtException. E.g. you could write a log message to your own log file or whatever you want.
Now you must guarantee, that all threads in your system are childs of that customized ThreadGroup. I did this in my main class:
public class Application implements Runnable {
private String[] argv;
public static void main(String[] argv) {
this.argv = argv; // save this for use in the run method
ThreadGroup tg = new MyThreadGroup();
// start a thread in the new thread group and terminate the original main thread
new Thread(tg, this, "main").start();
public void run() {
// perform all other tasks here
public class MyThreadGroup extends ThreadGroup {
public MyThreadGroup() {
super("MyThreadGroup");
public void uncaughtException(Thread thread, Throwable exception) {
// ignore death of thread
if (exception instanceof ThreadDeath)
return;
// ---- perform your actions here ----
}All other threads, which are created later, are also in the new thread group, because they inherit the group from their creator. -
Is it possible to draw a mesh on top of a background image in flash ?
Problem i am trying to draw my 3d mesh on top of any image or an object in flash but my model is drawing under the image all the time i don't know how to sort this problem since i am bit new to flash development .
Please help me with this thank you.Sorry about this messy code its because of this copy pasting stuff but if you could press ctrl + f and type Init mesh and Init Functions thats where everything is happening and this 3d mesh will be loaded
using a preloader function in a separate file thats why i add a event with Added_to_stage to the listener Problem is once i Draw this mesh with their morph target on to the screen i couldn't able to draw anything
in the background of this object everything comes on top of this 3d mesh .
once again sorry for this mess anyway its still in the unit test phase .

IPad as "best way to browse the web"? Come on, Apple...
We're loyal buyers, so at least be honest with us. You can't seriously make the claim that the iPad will be the "best way to browse the web" and keep a straight face. Yes, here it is again: the "no Flash" complaint. Flash is not a luxury trimming on a few specialized sites, it is INTEGRAL to the web. For you to deny it to your users is atrocious.
Not only do we have to pay another data fee to AT&T for the 3G version, but for this expense we get NO flash features. That's crap, I have to say it.
And on problems like lack of USB...if you want to claim that the iPad will be the "best way to manage photos," then you need to explain how one gets the photos from our digital camera to the iPad in the first place. We ALL know the answer: we'll need another computer as an intermediary. So much for the logic of a compact, self-contained pad system! You just rendered vacationing with the iPad and a camera null.
I'm really upset you would produce such a crippled product and tell us how "cool" it is.I'm really upset you would produce such a crippled product and tell us how "cool" it is.
I don't understand what all of the complaining is about, quite frankly. It will have the same utility value as an iPhone/iTouch (without the phone part) except that it will have a significantly larger screen and newer hardware. If you already use an iPhone or iTouch you already know how to survive without Flash.
Flash is not the be all, end all or do all of the iPad. Quite frankly, I have no sympathy for a company that has outsourced its entire operation to India and whose end-user support is the worst I've ever experienced. I'm talking about you, Adobe.
No Flash. No big deal. Get on with your lives. -
Making star fields: Transparent layers for stars made with noise?
I'm trying to do what David Bogie described here:
David Bogie, "How can you create a flying through space effect?" #4, 16 Jul 2008 7:28 am. But I'm a real newbie in AE (I have 6.0 and have owned it for years but only used it about twice or so - I do everything else in PPro), so I'm getting stumped on basics. What kind of layer should I do this with? The choices in 6.0 are Text, Solid, Light, Camera, Null Object, and Adjustment Layer. I tried a solid black layer, but it is indeed very solid - when I make a second one, the first is never seen again. Null Object and Adjustment layers don't seem to respond when I put the noise and threshold effect pair on them, so they are apparently the wrong type for this. There seems to be no such thing as a Transparent layer type, or is there?
A secondary question (sorry to put two questions in one post, but it's probably simple) is about the threshold effect. It seems that the result is either pure white or pure black - I started with noise of varying lightnesses and even color, but when I use threshold to thin it out (to make it more like stars), the result is only bright white dots and nothing else, no matter what threshold level I choose. Am I missing something simple?Sorry, Thomas, I thought you were the one who was frustrated - it sounded like you felt I needed to either upgrade or study the basics on my own before attempting something like this. And I wasn't belittling older versions; I thought you were. Don't ya just hate that lack of voice inflection and facial expressions that you get in online communication...! Okay, onward.
I read about the Pan Behind Tool before (if you start searching for "anchor point" and "position" it comes right up), but then, as now, I don't understand how it works with layers that have already been moved out of whack. And since my last post I have done way more to my comp: To try to reduce the afore-mentioned problem while still getting a variety of star patterns in my layers, I made all the positions 360x240 (which is the same as what I left the anchor points at) and introduced rotation instead - that didn't solve it, but it looked a little better. Then I decided that the time before the earth appeared was kinda boring, so I learned about parenting, made two of the star layers children of the third one, and bezier'ed some position and rotation action to the parent, so that it will look like the viewer's ship is changing direction as it's flying, and then when it steadies its heading, earth begins to appear. It's not bad - the flying motion takes your attention off the layer discrepancy. But when I showed it to my husband, who had conceived the original idea of this sort of video for the song intro, he instantly noticed the relative motion without me mentioning it - he didn't know what to call it, but commented that my stars seemed to be moving around. Yup! I am now convinced that it's not just anchor points, but the fact that the scale is different on the three layers. I even tried adjusting the rates of change of the scale to be the same on all layers (2X over the course of a period of time - one is 100->200, another is 60->120, and the third is 50->100), but they still move funny. Oh, well. So I finally just rid of the keyframes on the two child tracks altogether and let the parent do all the enlarging. I don't know how that differs from having each layer enlarge the same ratio over the same course of time, but somehow it is - the funny movement is gone. Unfortunately that eliminated the final thing that made the layers different - the current result could have been achieved simply with three layers in Photoshop. I would have liked to have "closer" layers enlarging faster than "farther" ones (that's the reason for multiple layers in the first place), but if they won't do so from the center point, it's just too weird. I have spent a whole day working on 18 seconds of video - I need to move on to the rest of my project.
Okay, now to address Andrew's post, which came in when this post was almost ready to send (I learned my lesson and checked before actually sending!). That's my kind of tutorial! In one sitting he teaches several techniques, effects, tools, unnumerable keyboard shortcuts, etc. Often when I watch a tutorial video, I learn just one thing in ten minutes, but this guy packs in the information. I will have to be careful to sort out what I can do and what I can't - I have 6.0 Standard, and he has Pro of some newer version (I don't know how new, but he was able to make great-looking stars in seconds using fractal noise, an effect I don't seem to have). As for using his idea directly, it had occurred to me that zooming in closer than I am would be cool, but I don't have any images for that. Do you know where one would get satellite images like that? Google Earth is copyrighted material, even though I assume the images it uses are not.
Wow, I learned a lot today - thanks to both of you for pointing me in good directions. AE is not as intimidating as it was yesterday! :-) -
Live Webcam and Netstream.publish HELP!
Hello! Im new to the forums. Im working on a project for work and im using FMS 3 and AS3. I've gotten to a point where google cant help me anymore. When I get my webcamera with flash and allow the camera to be used it then opens a netstream to the FMS server, which for some reason doesnt work all the way. I can see the new stream being published but i just stops and you cant view it. Here is my code.
var my_nc:NetConnection = new NetConnection();
my_nc.connect("rtmp://my_fms_server_ip/live/livestream");
var camera ;
var video ;
function onCameraStatus( evt ):void {
if (evt.code == "Camera.Muted"){
trace("Camera Access Has Been Denied!") ;
if (evt.code == "Camera.Unmuted"){
trace("Camera Access Has Been Granted") ;
camera = Camera.getCamera() ;
camera.addEventListener(StatusEvent.STATUS, onCameraStatus) ;
if (camera == null)
Security.showSettings(SecurityPanel.CAMERA) ;
}else{
video = new Video(camera.width, camera.height) ;
video.attachCamera(camera) ;
addChild(video) ;
var my_ns:NetStream = new NetStream(my_nc);
my_ns.attachCamera(camera);
my_ns.publish("cwysong");
Please Help!I got everything working.. here is my code. FYI this is done in Actionscript 2.0 and im passing variables from PHP to actionscript using FlashVars.
var nc:NetConnection = new NetConnection();
nc.connect("rtmp://My.Server.IP/live/"+ confid);
var ns:NetStream = new NetStream(nc);
mycam = Camera.get();
mymic = Microphone.get();
myvid.attachVideo(mycam);
mycam.setQuality(84500,0);
mymic.setRate(11);
ns.attachAudio(mymic);
ns.attachVideo(mycam);
ns.publish(+ uname);
there ya go! -
var cam:Camera = Camera.getCamera();
var vid:Video = new Video();
vid.attachCamera(cam);
addChild(vid);
if (cam == null)
trace("User has no cameras installed.");
else
trace("User has at least 1 camera installed.");
now how can i Captur and store the video in to local hard disk drive.......google: flash as3 jpegencoder class

Button Transition only plays audio
Hi,
In Encore, I have configured the MAIN MENU to continous loop Video and Audio (via the Motion tab) I then configured each button to play a "transition" movie (1 second clip) so that it will play the transition first, then the actual movie set in the "link" section. Everything is set properly (at least to my knowledge), however, when I preview and click on the button, only the transition's audio is playing, the video of the MAIN MENU remains to be playing. When the transition (that 1 second clip) is done playing its audio, then it altogether went to the actual movie.
Any ideas what I did wrong? Any help appreciated.I first learned about the pickwhip from some online video training for AE, I really thought the trainer said "pigwhip". And since "whip" sounded so negative (like why would I ever want to use a pig whip and whip my precious MOV, Cameras, null layers, etc.), I then just call the "pickwhip" a "pigtail" since it does look like a pigtail...and then I just gotten used to it. Glad you understood what I meant!
How I add the transition? I pickwhip the transition to an MOV (which I import as asset)
How to add the Motion Menu? I pickwhip the Video/Audio to an MOV (which I imported as asset)
Motion menu rendered? Yes, the motion menu was rendered
OK, back to business. Here is what I've tried:
1) I created a new, simple blank menu and simple buttons with NO motion menu: Transition worked perfectly
2) Using the SAME blank menu (from 1), I added a MUXed MOV, it didn't work.
3) I deMUXed the MOV to a video-only MOV and separate audio (in AIF), problem persists!
In Summary: Appears that transition didn't work (for me) ONLY when I do a motion menu
btw, thx for the help with the troubleshooting.....Any additional insights appreciated. -
Video Chat on Android very slow !
Hi everyone,
I'm developing an audio/video chat Android application. On my Android device (Samsung Galaxy S), all works... but it is very very slow !!
I launch the application (release version) on my phone and then I launch this application from my computer (from Flash Builder)
Each applications are connected to the Cirrus server and streams are sent/received. On my computer, no problem. But on my phone, the CPU usage grows immediatly (>90 % !) and the app finish to crash.
Before I click on the "connect" button : RAM 26 mb / CPU 0.33% (great !)
When I publish my audio/video via NetStream : RAM 42 mb / CPU 64%
When I publish AND receive an audio/video NetStream : RAM 48 mb / CPU 94%
By the way, my phone is getting hot...
I know that this could be done without such performance problems on Android. The proof : http://coenraets.org/blog/2010/07/video-chat-for-android-in-30-lines-of-code/
Yes, LCCS is use here by C. Coenraets, but LCCS is nothing but a NetConnection/NetStream and a RTMFP solution... So what am i doing wrong ? Any help would be very appreciated.
I paste here the code (firstView of the ViewNavigatorApplication) :

Hey guys, just experimenting and remembering how to work with nulls to control cams.
I noticed when I enlarge the null in one dimension, the camera's view also seems to widen. What's happening here? What is that and what am I doing that is causing the camera to "see" differently? I thought the whole point of a null was that it didn't have a physical dimension and was really only about orientation and position?Woahhh hold your horses!
I'm trying to understand the program, not trying to criticize it. I love Adobe and AE. Did it sound like I was trying to pick it apart?
What I'm trying to understand is why when I resize it horizontally, it changes the camera view...and therefore understand how it's changing the camera view. This is an important concept for me to get about this. It's not something I have been able to find in literature or other boards. That's all I'm trying to ask. I'm not trying to argue with it or point out a flaw or something like that, I just don't understand what's going on. Is the camera changing and how when I enlarge the null?
