3D glasses

Hey All,
Has anyone seen the Muppet Show 3D in Disney World in Orlando, FL? I know it's over 15 years or so old, but that is the only 3D movie I've seen which does NOT use the standard red-green/blue glasses. Instead, they use glasses that look more like traditional see-through "glass".
I was browsing a website which sells various 3D glasses and it looks like there are 3 different kind besides the traditional red-green/blue ones.
1. circular polarized
2. linear polarized and
3. chroma depth
( if you interested this is where I got the info from: http://www.the3dmarket.com/Plastic/default.asp )
So anyhow. The question is, I was looking at AE CS3's "3D Glasses" FX. I know it does the traditional red-green/blue FX, but I am not sure if it can do one which would require one of those polarized or chroma glasses. That is why I was referring to the Muppet Show 3D, cuz that was one of those.
Is one of the options in the "3D View" popup of the FX would require one of the above mentioned glasses? And if so which one would that be?
Thanks!

Unlike with red/green 3D, for polarized lenses to work the two separate images have to be projected through two separate polarizing filters, so there is no sense in compositing the two images together before displaying them.
Chromadepth apparently uses prismatic lenses to separate different wavelengths of light to create the illusion of depth. This means the location of an object's color on the spectrum will determine the depth of that object with, as Wikipedia tells me, red being near blue being distant (those of us who wear glasses can sometimes see a subtle example if this effect by turning our heads with respect to the computer screen). If this method works with RGB sub-pixel-based displays, recreating it in AE would have to involve a depth map of some sort, rather than separate images for the left and right eyes.

  • SCANNING MULTIPLE PAGES TO SINGLE DOCUMENT ON 8620 FLAT GLASS

Does the HP Officejet Pro 8620 have the capability to scan multiple pages into a single document using the flat glass and not the auto feeder?
Use this when I want to scan a package or any item that won't fit through the auto feeder.
My Officejet Pro 8600 at work does by using a promptor after each page scannned that asks if there are more pages remaining to scan to same document.
If the answer is no, do I have to return my 8620 and purchase an 8600?
    Jackimo

    Hi Jackimo,
A such can be done by launching the scan from the HP software on your PC.
Open the HP Officejet 8620 software and clcik on Scan a Document or Photo.
Select the PDF option, ensure the scan resolution is  set as 300 or below and the Scan Source is set as Flatbed Glass.
As well ensure the Show Scan Preview option is checked and click on Scan.
Use the Plus button below the scan preview to scan additional pages from the glass, click on Save once you are done.

  • The glass on my new ipad air was broken one day. I have had it for about a month. 1 day I took it out of its case as usual and the screen was splintered at the top and cracked downwards.  It had not received any bangs, or been dropped or anything.  Help!

Hi, I have had my ipad air for about a month.  The other day I took it out of its cover and it was splintered from the top with downward cracks.  It is new and under warranty so I rang the support team.  They told me that it would cost about €120 but could be repaired on the spot and they made me an appointment at the local genius bar.  I got there and they told me that I had dropped it or banged it or something.  I said I had not, they insisted that I must have done.  I repeated several times that I had not - it was obvious they did not believe me, they said I must have done.  They then told me they never repaired or replaced broken glass in any ipads, that the man on the 'Support' had been wrong.  They always replaced the whole ipad at a cost of €300.  I was devastated at not being believed and at the amount of money they were asking for.  I left and rang the support again.  I was told their system was down but to call on monday to get a quote for the reparation, I could send it to my home insurance company and they would undoubtedly cover the repair.  I asked how long this was all going to take because, I was in the middle of a big project and this was taking up my time, and also I needed the ipad for my work.  They told me it would be done in a minute.  I rang on the Monday and I was told it would take up to 5 days to send but probably it would arrive sooner (it is now thursday, I have received nothing).  I then rang my household insurance, a big company - and they told me they had never heard of such a cover.  I asked if this was because I had a very basic policy, they said, no it wasn't that - I didn't have a basic policy I had quite thorough policy, but they didn't know of a policy in any comany that would cover this sort of damage.  I was stunned - yet again I had been given false information and false hope by apple.  Yet again I was let down.  I then decided to do a further investigation on the internet and discovered a long trail of comments on Apple Forum of people who have also had splintering and cracking of the ipad air glass for no reason whatsoever.  Some have commented that the glass could be thinner in order to reduce the weight, some have said that the splintering could be caused by a weakness in the casing at the top where it is plastic (the ones that take sims) that might make it more flexible and therefore liable to crack.
All of the posts and complaints on the apple forum and elsewhere seem to point to a design fault.  However throughout all this I have been mislead by apple support staff constantly who all say different things, I have virtually been accused of lying by denying that my ipad received any kind of impact by apple staff and I have been left feeling incredibly frustrated and upset by the total lack of any kind of real help by Apple.  All this despite being acomplet apple user in my business for the last 25 years, where I have never come across this attitude towards me as a customer before.
When the screen on my iphone broke, it was because I fell in the street while I was talking on the telephone, it flew out of my hand and smashed on the pavement.  I was rolling around in agony, while my son was holding up the smashed telephone wailing 'Mama, you've smashed your iphone!!!'  This of course, I blamed on noone but myself - it broke because it fell, I paid an arm and a leg without protest to get it repaired.
This is not the case with my new ipad air.  It has splintered for no good reason at all - and noone at Apple seems to want to help me or to care!
I would really appreciate it if someone could tell me if there is anything else I can do to ge this matter resolved?

If it was a refurb replacing one that was under warranty, the warrany is good until the original warranty expires or 90 days from replacement, whichever is longer. In either event, it should still be covered if you've only had it for a month. (assuming you're in the US here). You can try to restore it as a NEW device rather than restoring from your backup, but this sounds like a hardware failure... I think. I'm not sure what you mean by "the top half of the screen slides". If you mean only the top half is touch sensitive, how can you determine that? You wouldn't be able to slide to unlock if that were the case...
Sorry, I'm a little confused by that description.

  • Sun Java 3D looking glass now available - Package ?

    Hi,
    justread the following:
    https://lg3d-core.dev.java.net/lg3ddevelopersguide.html
    Project Looking Glass Open Source
Sun Microsystems is contributing Project Looking Glass, based on Java(tm) technology, to the open source community. Project Looking Glass is an exploration project to bring innovative 3D features to the desktop environment. The desktop interface will offer an intuitive, new 3D environment to interact with desktop applications featuring window transparency, rotation, zoom, multiple desktop workspaces and miniaturization.Project Looking Glass offers a platform to realize far richer and more entertaining user experience for existing and new applications in 2D or 3D. The technology enables developers to build highly visual 3D desktops and applications that will run on Linux systems such as Sun's Java Desktop System. The Solaris(tm) environment will be supported in near future.
What does this mean to you?
If you're a software developer, please go to http://enews.sun.com/CTServlet?id=63058 … 8531213971 and download this early version of the code and join the community in developing the 3D desktop.
Interested in using the Project Looking Glass? The project is in very early stages and a commercial version is not available yet. Please go to http://enews.sun.com/CTServlet?id=63058 … 8531213990 to keep up to date on our progress.
    Why Open Source?
Project Looking Glass is in its infancy, and we'd like to explore lots of ideas and possibilities.  We're releasing the Project Looking Glass code to the whole community to explore every aspect of the technology rather than restricting access to a privileged few. We believe this open development is an excellent model to pursue this exciting and vast opportunity.  So, your involvement is eagerly anticipated. We believe new dimension of developer innovation by making Sun's cutting edge technology available at Sun's 3D Desktop Technology Open Source Project on java.net.
We have been working for several months on cleaning the software up, providing basic features and functionality key to 3D window management. A key focus was looking at the existing 2D desktop applications, ensuring minimal compatibility and performance problems. The next step is to look what else we can do to foster real world 3D interactivity. We decided to open source this at a very early stage to ensure that we got good feedback from the community.
What's in the Open Source Project?
The following features are now available in the Project Looking Glass open source release:
3D Window Manager Platform - Java 3D based highly scalable 3D platform with client-server model support.
3D Window Manager and Application Development API - Java API to develop new 3D desktop applications and 3D desktop Window Manager features.
Native Application Integration Module - Allows developers to run conventional X11 applications in the 3D environment.
Sample 3D Window Manager - provides a simple sample implementation for testing and demonstration purposes
3D Environment Lite - Enables developers to run a simplified 3D environment as an application on a Java 3D enabled platform including Linux and Solaris environments. This serves as a development tool to test implementations.
This is all available at: http://enews.sun.com/CTServlet?id=63058 … 8531213971
    What's the licensing model?
There are three license choices for developers interested in creating applications using Project Looking Glass.
For developers who are interested in reviewing, revising, and redistributing the source code as part of their own application, Project Looking Glass has been submitted as an Open Source project on java.net under the GNU Public License, or GPL.
For developers who are interested in developing an application on top of the existing Project Looking Glass platform without reviewing and/or altering the code base, there is a binary version of the current state of the project available for download under a traditional Binary Code License. This is also available on java.net.
Finally, for developers or organizations interested in other uses or revising the source code but wish to keep their implementation and related application proprietary, please contact Sun at [email protected].

  • Problem with freezing and hour glass comes on as if updating every 10 minutes or so and lasts for 52 seconds or more.

When I am on a site, any site, or writing an email every ten minutes or so, the hour glass comes on and I cannot do anything but wait. I think it is updating something. How can I stop this?

Updating to Firefox 8.0 might do it, unless there is damage to the places.sqlite indexes, anyway this is the fix, and I actually option (same as all options).
    freezing at regular intervals: http://blog.bonardo.net/2011/09/30/is-your-firefor-freezing-at-regular-intervals
    : https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/places-maintenance/
:<br>Install add-on, run at least the option mentioned in the article, I ran them all. When finished you can uninstall the extension, all without taking taking Firefox down, The extension is one of the new JetPack extensions.
Thought I was having that problem right now, but it's my anti-virus scan, usually ties things up pretty much.

  • I have this weird stain in my ipad screen and screen protector that has formed around a crack in the glass.

Some time ago my ipad 4 screen slowly began forming a long hairline crack at one corner and near the home button for some reason, perhaps daily rough and tumble taking it to class and whatnot.  The crack is not very noticeable so I have delayed getting the screen repaired.
I used to have a Boxwave Cleartouch Ultra screen protector on, and as directed, would peel it off now and then to give it a good wash(it's one of those reusable ones with adhesive on the edges only and yes they are meant to be washed now and then).  One day after doing this, I noticed a strange puddle of tiny round stains clustering near the crack.  I didn't think much of it until I equipped my ipad with a stronger ipad case with it's own screen protector.  The stain seemed to cling onto the Boxwave screen protector even after cleaning.  Now with a new screen protector the stains around the crack were these tiny rainbowy areas around the crack that sat on top of the glass and were visible as just some kind of smudge when the screen was turned off.  I recently discovered the stain has transferred to my new screen protector when I remove it and is visible when you look at it at an angle when removed from the ipad. Not even dish soap seems to get rid of it.
I am wondering what this stain could be, I mean there is no liquid pooling out of the digitizer or anything.  One idea I have is that maybe some adhesive from the first screen protector got loose after washing and pooled into the crack and thats why they have a smudgy appearance that they got when wiping the screen dry.  There are no liquid stains under the crack however.  Another thing I thought of was maybe something to do with oleophobic coating and the crack itself.  I am also wondering how  to get rod of it safety.

    You are welcome.
Despite Apple's incredible wealth, they don't/can't control the Internet. Sadly, this is an ongoing and ever increasing problem. The best defence is knowledge on the part of the user. Any message that pops up while surfing the Internet should ALWAYS be treated with skepticism.

  • Upgrading to FF, need to upgrade the glass too... 5D mkiii and 1 lens, or 6D and 2 lenses?

I've been shooting for several years now, and my trusty 40D has been in dire need of an upgrade. I have had some good paying jobs in the last few months and I have some cash to play with. I've just been beating my head against the wall trying to figure out the best course of action.
I recognize that style determines one's needs, but my needs change. Sometimes it's portrait, studio/location... sometimes it's event, action... sometimes low light and long exposure. Increasingly, paid video is becoming part of my workflow.
I waited to see what the 70D would offer, I was impressed with the new AF system, fps, ISO performance, as well as the usefulness of the flip screen/wifi (more than I thought I would have been). The problem is that it's still a crop sensor, and still on the lower end of the "prosumer" line. I try not to let my ego get in the way too much, as I know that an expensive camera doesn't always make for a good photographer. However, after shooting the xxD line for many years (since the 10D), I would like to move up, and I don't know that I have the patience to wait for the 7D mkii.
I started looking at the 6D as the entry full frame option. The price is right, and if you put it together right, you can get the body and a good kit lens for around $2200. The limitations, as far as I can tell, would be AF system (number of points, and virtual lack of cross-type), fps, build quality, lack of headphone jack, single card slot, sync speeds, etc. If you are familiar with this camera, you are familiar with its functional shortcomings, especially when compared to the Nikon counterpart, the D600. However, I have to respect this camera in its sheer photo taking power, and that in some cases it carries better sensor ratings than the 5Dmkiii. The end result will be as good, if not better than the 5Dmkiii, so long as you are able to get the subject in focus and in frame due to the bogus AF system/fps rating. Seemingly, this camera will not do a lot of the work for you, not as much as it's big brother will, anyway.
I had the opportunity to shoot with a 5D mkiii, and I was blown away with every aspect of its layout and functionality. The AF system was stellar, the ISO performance was amazing, the IQ was well beyond anything I am used to. I was also able to use a full stable of L glass along with it, as well, so I could really express the potential of the camera. Every shot I got was in focus. The grouping options worked flawlessly, and I didn't have to focus/recompose as I have gotten so accustomed to. On the video side, I like the headphone jack and greater resistance to moire (supposedly). It felt solid in my hand, fit perfectly, and wasn't too heavy to carry around a 12 hour corporate gig (even with a broken finger). Was pretty stoked on it.
All of this being said, I need to upgrade the body. This much is clear. The limitation is that my lenses aren't up to par. Half of them are EF-S, and the EF lenses I have aren't much worth mentioning (28-135mm IS, 50mm f2.5 compact macro). The big question is, do I spend the money on the 5D for the greatly advanced features and functionality, and suck it up on the lenses for a while? Maybe just get the 24-105 and use that for basically everything? Or should I get the lesser 6D, and play with some classic lens options like the 16-35mm, 24-70mm, 70-200mm, etc? After all, the focus system wont matter if I don't have the lens to capture it anyway.
    What is the better option?
    1. Buy the more functional (expensive) body and maybe one lens to start.
    2. Buy the less functional (cheaper) but equally IQ rated body and a few lenses, or other pro-business expenses?
Common knowledge seems to state that you invest in glass first.
In the past, I have felt limited by my camera's ability to keep up with low light and focus issues. I don't want to voluntarily step into an inferior system.  Conversely, I don't want to get saddled with a pricey body and no glass to use with it.  Are the technology gains in the 5D mkiii worth it if my budget is limited?
Just wondering if anyone has any insight to this dilemma?

Hi jadphoto, thanks for getting back.  I shot film for many years as well.  It gave me a really good foundation for making sure that you do everything as right as possible before hitting the shutter.  Making the change to digital was certainly revolutionary in the way that I was able to approach photography (cost, learning curve, instant gratification).  I was hoping that the move from crop to FF would be liberating and vision-changing, as well.
Not needing a tripod as often would be awesome.  I do some long exposure stuff that will always require it, but I would like to be able to get some sharp, clean, hand-held images when I don't feel like lugging it around.  I was at a music festival recently, and basically all of my night shots were hand-held, or taken with the camera resting on something.  A lot of the shots were unusable because of blur or noise.  The lighting in those scenarios can be tough, and I've read that the 6D and 5D can basically focus in the dark.  Not needing external flash and a tripod would be great.  On the 40D, I don't like to push the ISO above 1250 (defintely the extreme end for that camera, in my opinion).
I was looking at the 24-70 2.8, or the 24-105 4 IS in that range.  The 24-70 has a lot of clout, and I like the lens.  I really like the bokeh/DOF of a 2.8.  However, the 24-105 has a little more reach, and the IS which is nice.  So I don't know that I would want to do double duty in that range, and like everything else, they seem to spread the awesome features around a bit.  I have really enjoyed the 28-135 over the years.  It has a solid build, really good optical results, but it can be a bit long on a crop sensor, so it gets limited indoor use.  I also recently dropped it from about chest high onto the street... while attached to the body... lens down (first time I've ever done something like that).  It slipped out of the tri-pod collar which was not fully secured.  The filter shattered, and I had to convince the barrel to go back into position so it would zoom properly, but everything alse still works fine.  Still sharp with fast AF.  Pretty incredible.  The 50 compact macro can be a lot of fun for still-life/detail/nature stuff, but I rarely take it out for portrait because the AF is loud and slow, and the results are not always spot-on.  Could be user error.  I might need to keep trying it out, but it doesn't get a lot of love in the paid portrait department.  My 50 1.8 had a cheap build too, but would take some pretty awesome photos (sometimes).
I figured the rest of the kit would make sense once I settled on a mid-range.  I have an 11-18 EF-S that I would have to find a replacement for.  The 24mm on a FF was impressively wide, and might require less immediate attention.  Makes me realize the tunnel vision effect of the crop (good when you want it for reach)...  With that being said the 70, 105, and even 135 might need some help reaching on the FF.... and I've always wanted a fancy, beige/white 70-200.  I just don't know what would get the most use yet.  I was able to use a 70-200 2.8, and I loved the cross-room candids I could get when I wasn't all up on people.  A lot of time, they didn't know I was shooting them.  It's just a beast, though.  It's big, and not too discreet, which can serve the ego but can get you in trouble too.  I can imagine that it is a great tool to have when you need it.

  • I've tried to troubleshoot downloading Firefox but it won't open on Windows XP. The Firefox Update box with the hour glass symbol runs for hours. Then I have trouble even shutting down. When I click on Firefox, no window, program won't quit, etc....

Windows XP. I used to use Firefox and it worked okay. I'm not sure why I downloaded a new version but it won't open. The window that says "Firefox Update" continues to try to load. Hour glass symbol, for hours. If I try to click on the Desktop symbol, Nothing. Then when I try to shut down, it's slow, programs won't quit, or it freezes. I've removed Firefox completely and tried downloading again with the same results. Even with the latest version. Shit. Whassup?

Hi zenithtwc, to test whether this is a settings issue, could you do a three-minute experiment?
    '''Create a new Firefox profile'''
A new profile will have your system-installed plugins (e.g., Flash) and extensions (e.g., security suite toolbars), but no themes, other extensions, or other customizations. It also should have completely fresh settings databases and a fresh cache folder.
Exit Firefox and start up in the Profile Manager using Start > search box (or Run):
    firefox.exe -P
''Don't delete anything here.'' Any time you want to switch profiles, exit Firefox and return to this dialog.
Click the Create Profile button, assign a name like Test731, and skip the option to change the folder location. Then start Firefox in the new profile you created.
    Can it reach the internet?
When returning to the Profile Manager, you might be tempted to use the Delete Profile button. But... it's a bit too easy to accidentally delete your "real" profile, so I recommend resisting the temptation. If you do want to clean up later, I suggest making a backup of all your profiles first in case something were to go wrong.

  • Can anyone tell me how I can get my IPad 3G verizon (cracked glass from display) repaired from Belgium. They denied service twice ?

I have purchased on the 29th of April 2011 in Florida US an Ipad WI-FI 3G 64GB  Verizon. Now I have a serious issue in getting this repaired. When I purchased the device I was told by the salesman of the store that I had global coverage in repairs and even going through the Apple support website this is confirmed but in practice this does not seem to be the case.
I have offered my Ipad 2 for repair now twice in my Home coutnry Belgium and on both occasions was denied repair as I purchased the device in the US. I have contacted Apple support in Belgium, first time they confirmed I could get the repair the second time they told me that the device could not be repaired as it is a Verizon device and that I should contact Verizon instead. I contacted them in Europe but they refered me back to Apple.
Now I do not know what to do anymore? I will gladly pay for the repair and will gladly send it by insured postal service to anywhere but since I do not live in the US I cannot stop by the store for repair.
I hope anyone can help me with this issue?
    Br,
    Jan Willem

I'd love to know how Apple can expect a phone company to replace broken glass on their own product.
Threaten them with media coverage on the issue, they'll realise you mean business.  If you get the same run around from the support person (who is most likely in a call centre in some Asian country) ask to speak to a Supervisor.
The way I read the warranty it is supposed to be World-wide.

  • On macbook pro when I went to magnifying glass in top right corner it comes up spotlight I am unable to retrieve utility

Can you help struggling with macbook pro since updating to yosemite? maginifying glass in top right corner is not offering utility options only comes up spotlight and wont searc what I want. I need to erase SD card

i bought new sd card to download music. I did this tonight however although it appeared on sd card to have downloaded music it would only play podcasts over and over on my roberts music system. I then eventually after deleting podcasts on the SD card on my mac tried again. Again it would only play podcasts on sd card on music system. I then thought perhaps to delete all music on card but i am unable to do so.
Interestingly the sd card came up with NO NAME... I was unable to name this and when I checked the information on the new Sandisk 16Gb SD card bought this week from sainsbury it was dated 1980!! dont know if any relevance but its been a disaster spent whole pm on this last time it was so easy but misplaced the last sd card.
    Can you help? thanks

I paid for this service to fix my glass on my phone and now the entire LCD display is not working and after my repair the home button stopped working and I went back and they told me it was like that before the repair which it wasn't and they are telling me I need to pay 300 plus for a replacement phone that's refurbished now I don't understand apples support is suppose to be the best in the business and I have been more then ripped of the service I got damaged my phone more than it was before I would like to know where I can go to talk to someone who will help me not tell me it's my fault this is outrageous!!!

Take the issue up with whomever replaced the device, whether that is Apple or another company.

  • How to delete an item under the 'glasses' icon in reading list?

I cannot delete a webpage under the 'glasses' icon in the reading list of the Safari browser. It just says ' show unread' but does not delete it. There is no 'Edit' button in the reading list under the 'glasses' icon. There is no way I can delete that webpage. I erased the iphone but it did not work. The webpage is still in the reading list under the 'glasses' icon. What can i do? I want to delete it.

    Hey virginiefromfr,
I found this on deleting items from your reading list:
Delete something from your reading list:
Swipe left on the item in your reading list.

  • How can you tell if you need to just replace the glass on an ipod 4g or the glass and the LCD screen?

i just broke my ipod touch 4g about a month ago and i think it is just the glass but i am not sure. It cracked and the glass started falling out of the top right corner and today, the white part started cracking. is this just part of the glass or is it part of the LCD screen? I want to figure this out because i dont want to order a repair kit with an LCD screen if i dont have to. thanks in advanced

On the 4G the outer glass and the LCD screen is one bonded unit.

while recording? sure, there are products called 'dull spray'.

  • How can I fix the smashed rear glass of my iPhone 4?

The rear glass of my iPhone 4 has smashed. How can I get this fixed? Heard a rumour I could take it to an apple store and they would sell me a new one for £100?! Not sure I believe that though!!!!!

The price for a replacement iP4 is £119 exchange
You get a refurbished unit that many say is better than new due to the testing it receives and all new externals
You can make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an  Apple Retail store and they will replace over the counter
You can mail in but personally think face to face is better ,no danger of it going astray

  • The search function in the itunes store does not work.  It will accept a request and suggest searches but then it locks up and will not search.  Clicking on the magnifying glass or a suggested search does nothing.  Re-installing itunes has not helped.
