3D paint -- obj normals from Softimage?

Hello,
I've seen from a Digital Tutors tutorial that not all objs
are created equally. That is, some are not exported in a way that Photoshop can read its normal
s correctly. They had a solution for Maya, but not for Softimage.
Does anyone here work with Softimage (i have 2011) and paint objects in Photoshop CS5? If so, how do you deal with the normals export? Are there special settings from Softimage?

Hello,
Is there some trick to making 3d obj files visible when loaded into CS5 from Softimage? The wireframe view works, but the solid view does not. At first i tyhought it was a problem with my model, but when simply exporting a sphere primitve (with uvs) as an obj, and loading that into CS5, i have the same problem. While a sample obj created in another program loaded and was visible in solid mode.
Does anyone know how to make this work with Softimage obj exported models?

I can't start windows 7 normally from Boot Camp

I can't start windows 7 normally from Boot Camp.
It was running fine since I have installed it 7 months ago, but now it can't start or (restart) normally (safe mode is ok). It displays a black screen after showing the logo, and I have to shut down the machine. My Mac system is working fine. Mac technician (Genius Bar) has run a surface scan to verify hd integrity and proofed ok, but could not give any advice on Windows issues.
Please advice if anything I should do before cleaning up my partition and reinstall Windows.

I would guess and sorry for asking but you already tried booting from Windows 7 DVD and doing auto repair?
There are dozens of things to look at and do, and begin with chkdsk in Windows, yes but that only looks at one aspect. You can't really check for bad sectors on a drive's sectors. The best? to use the drive vendor's own utility actually, often with a linux boot CD or Windows program (they don't make Mac OS versions, one reason I first installed Vista over 5 yrs ago)
Restore check points
Uninstall last update or driver
Clean the system of debris temp files, caches, registry errors, fonts and left overs
make sure you have 20% and 12GB free space or more
A hard shutdown can create more problems.

The best way to remove a pattern is to use a Fast Fourier Transform. There's a free plugin (as well as examples and instructions) here:

My printer HP 3510 has been printing horizontally from one computer and normally on another. Why does this happen and how can I correct the problem?

You try to print portrait, but it comes out landscape. When you checked that setting, was it at the document level or at the default level? The document setting overrides the default level setting.
If the document level setting is on Portrait and the document is coming out Landscape, I recommend downloading and running the HP Print and Scan Doctor for Windows. Does that help?

My email account in Mail.app is IMAP, but when I delete emails, they don't delete from other devices connected to the mail server with IMAP. Deleted mail on other devices delete as normal from the server and thus from other devices as normal.

MacBook Pro, late 2011 version. Up to date Mountain Lion.
My email account in the Mail.app is set up as IMAP, but when I delete emails in the Mac Mail App, they are not deleted from the mail clients of the other devices that are connected to the mail server with IMAP. IMAP works perfectly between Windows Outlook 2010, iPad Mail App and Android default mail client. Deleted messages behave correctly, as in delete from one device and the mail is deleted from all devices.
Having just tested in reverse order on the Mac; emails deleted from the email client on Windows, iPad and Android are not deleted in the Mac Mail App. It appears that the account is behaving like POP rather than IMAP.
Any advice on how to have IMAP work correctly on the MacBook Pro Mail.app?

Hi Csound1, thanks. The email host is 1and1.co.uk, however, i am going to fess up and make myself look like a plonker now -
the email account in question was set up in Outlook as POP - stupid, stupid, stupid me, wasted an afternoon on this! I have now changed the Outlook account to IMAP and Mail.app works perfectly - and looks much nicer than Outlook did. Im in the middle of converting from Windows to a Mac, and still finding my way around the Mac
The lesson learned, never assume - always double check! All my other email addresses with 1and1 are all imap, except this one, and it happened to be the first one I set up in the Mail.app. (bows head in disgrace!)

HELP ! Cannot read normals from a Sphere Object !

Hi everybody! Can anyone help me please ? I�m trying to get the coordinates from a Sphere object, and I can�t read them! I�m implementing the Ray Tracing algorithm, and I need to change the color of a certain pixel on the Sphere. I can get the GeometryArray from the Sphere, but I get a "cannot set cabalility bits on a live or compiled object, bla, blah hhh" message, when I try to set the "ALLOW_NORMAL_READ" permission. Thanks for any help.

i would set the capabilities (ALLOW_COORDINATE_READ, ALLOW_COORDINATE_WRITE,ALLOW_NORMAL_READ,ALLOW_NORMAL_WRITE) directly after creating the sphere, before adding to the content branch.

The keyboard command to make the switch is Command-Option-Control-8
You can disable that keyboard command by going to System Preferences > Keyboard, click the Keyboard Shortcuts button near the top. Select Universal Access in the pane on the left, then uncheck the item "Reverse balck and white" in the pane on the right.

recommended and the reason.Well, if stat1() is declared static then you have a choise. You can either access it as in inv1 or inv2. In that case the inv1 is recommended, because stat1() belongs to the class (book1) as a whole and not to any particular object (b1).
if stat1() is not declared static then you don't have have a choise. You have to access it as in inv2. That's the situation in your example and that's why inv1 doesn't work.
What I meant with my recommendation is that you should avoid static declarations. They have their proper uses but as a newbie it's easy to overuse them because they resemble the global variables you may be accustomed to from for example Basic and that doesn't lead to good OO.

Integration builder config obj transported from DEV to QA but not found

Hi,
I have a new development in PI DEV. I exported the ESR objects in a transport as well the Integration builder config objects in the same transport. Asked my admin to move it through CTS to PI QA. Its done.
In PI QA system, I am able to see the new ESR objects in the Enterprise services Builder.
But not able to see the config objects in Integration Directory (Integration Builder).
I researched the forum got some tips tried but in vain.
1. I chose Tools menu --> Find transports option but no transports found.
2. I cleared cache (full refresh)
3. Closed and reopened Integration builder
I just want to see those config folders as it was designed in the dev !!
Help is appreciated please.

After transport ID Objects, will not directly come into ID object list Like ESR Object Did , here in ID transported Object first Move into Change Object list , There you need to acticate Them. then these Object will be appear in ID Object List,
Method CONFIGURATION OBJECTS ---> (INTEGRATION DIRECTORY) -
> INTEGRATION BUILDER.
Step -I
1. Select Configuration Scenario to trasport.
2. Right Click on Configuration Scenario to Transport.
3. Select Export Option.

Suite au passage à la version CVI 2013, il faut passer par un fichier .obj au lieu du .c quand on veut utiiser la LoadExternalModule.
Le pb qui en résulte impossibilité de récupérer la valeur des control dans l'uir géré par le .obj qui est appelé par une dll.
Autrement, il m'est impossible de faire parvenir à la dll les valeur des control ( dll qui appelle le .obj).
Quelqu'un a eu le même soucis amigos?

When using the LoadExternalModule function in CVI 2013, we can no longer use a .c file. Instead we have to use an .obj file.
My issue is that' impossible for me to get a control value from an .iur managed by the .obj witchi is called by a dll.
Otherwise it's impossible for me to get the control vale when calling the .obj from a dll.

For people who could be interested in, here the code I provided to the customer. This code demonstrates that calling a function defined in a .obj file from a DLL which is called itself by a program can be realized without throwing any error.
In order to use this example, you will have to :
1) Open "main.cws"
2) Define "Madll" as Active Project (right clic on the project and click on "Set Active Project")
3) Build the DLL (CTRL+M)
4) Define "Main" as Active Project
5) Click on "Debug Project" in order to build the executable and run it
This example has been built with CVI 2013.

Did Photoshop Steal Features From Corel PHOTO-PAINT?

I emailed this old-school PHOTO-PAINT tutorial guy from forever ago and he gave me this list of features that PHOTO-PAINT had before Photoshop:
PP had floating Objects before PS had layers (they are the same thing)
PP had unlimited multiple levels of undo while PS only had 1 undo.
PP had lenses before PS had styles (these were both based on methods to incorporate non-destructive alterations to objects/layers and to the image) .
PP had clip masks before PS had layer masks (again, same thing)
PP had a Paint on Mask Mode before PS had Quick Mask
Anyone know anything about this?

Yeah I like how he stated in a previous stupid post that he's been doing this stuff for 15 years!! Come on, did anyone look at his profile pic?? You can't possibly understand how productive this can be unless you have relied on it for so long (myself, 15 years). I literally use this command ALL the freakin' TIME!

Appleworks Drawing & Painting: Color palettes *still* getting scrambled

I have a problem when using Appleworks drawing files with painting frames.
An Appleworks painting frame normally has two color palettes. One comes from the Drawing document, and this determines the background color of the painting frame. Anywhere that has no other color has this color. The other comes from the painting frame itself.
When clicking into the painting frame, both of these can get scrambled, with unpredictable results. In some cases, although both the drawing document and the painting frame used the same [presentation] palette, and the background color and another color were supposed to be the same, one could switch to another color. I started resetting the background color of each painting frame to white [in the drawing document], and filling it with whatever color I needed [in the painting frame] which solved one of the problems.
However, I'm still facing the annoying problem that the color palette gets scrambled. When I click into the Painting Frame, the color palette scrambles. If I start painting, it gets screwed up. If I switch the palette from presentation, to something else, back to presentation, that fixes it for the moment. If I click out of the painting frame, and then back into it, or click from one painting frame into another painting frame, the color palette scrambles again. I have to switch the palette twice each time I enter the frame.
Is there any way to correct this problem?

The earliest version of AppleWorks stable in OS X is 6.2.4. That you're using 6.2.2 could be a big part of the problem. Since AppleWorks was designated "end-of-life" it is difficult to find the updaters (especially the US/North American) on Apple's site. Here is the page with the links I have for the 6.2.9 updater. The page has a link to the North American updater in the upper right (the blue 15.8 MB) & links to other languages further down.

Whenever you do an update, it's a good idea to do two maintenance tasks, one for the system (Repair Permissions) and one for AppleWorks (delete preferences). (Thanks to Barry for this way to format this very common answer.)
To Repair permissions, launch Disk Utility, found in the Utilities folder in your Applications folder, click on First Aid, then on Repair Permissions.
To delete AppleWorks’ preference files, go to HD > Users > (your account) > Library > Preferences. Find and delete the file com.apple.appleworks.plist. Find and open the folder AppleWorks in this Preferences folder, then delete all of the enclosed files (with the exception of the Button Bar Preferences if you have customized the Button Bars). AppleWorks will recreate the preference files as it needs them.
