3D Scene Icons

I'm working my way through an instruction book on how to use Motion... and it tells me to click View and Overlay Options menu and choose 3D Scene Icons so that I can see the camera icon when in 3D mode...
I can't find a 3D Scene Icon option in my version of motion. (3.02)
And so can't see a camera icon.
Any ideas where I can switch this on?

Oh... found it... there are two View Menus!!!

  • Can't find the camera move behavior & 3D scene icon for the camera

Since a couple of days I've been playing around in the 3D environment in Motion 3.0.1
Unfortunately I can't find the (official) "camera move behavior" as used in the templates with comes with Motion 3. This particular behavior must be used to animate camera moves as far as I understand.
Furthermore I can't find the 3D scene icon for the camera. By having this representation of the camera it would be a lot easier to follow what the camera is looking at along it's motion path.
Thanks in advance for your help. . .

    Hi gents,
First of all thanks for your input!
I've found the solution for my missing 3D camera icon.
When I'm in (3D) perspective mode I found out that per default Motion doesn't show the camera icon.
I've to zoom out of the 3D scene to actually see this camera icon. As per default the view is inside from a gigantic camera, which is only visible when I zoom out.
Furthermore I understand that I can animate the camera via it's own transform properties. But I was just wondering where the camera move behavior as used in the templates with comes with Motion 3 came from.
Thanks and have fun over there!

  • Can't See 3d Scene Icons

    Hi,
In motion 3, I have to simple objects in a 3d group and then I added a camera and a light.
I made sure my 3d overlays was checked on, and the 3d scene icons was checked on and the 3d grid and compass were checked on as well. When I click on a view in the compass say top view, or right view I can't see the added camera, can't see the added light I can't even see the lines of my objects either. I can see the grid, and the compass but no scene icons.
    help, please!
    thanks

yes and yes. Nada. I have plenty of room on my monitor to fit the window. When select the camera in the layers pallette and press F, to frame the camera, Motion zooms in to some point displaying nothing at all but the grid.
The only thing that I can see are grid, and the red, green and blue lines representing the x,y, and z axis'. I see the objects themselves but ONLY if they are not perpendicular to an axis (the objects are simple 2d illustrations, a clock and a pair of scissors). If they are perpendicular to an axis in a view, say the top view, all see are the colored axis lines and the grid.

  • Can't fine tune scene icon starting point

    Hello.
I have an iMovie HD project that I am finalizing in iDVD 6. It is 90 minutes long and divided into ten chapters. iDVD 6 automatically created motion icons for each of the ten chapters. For ease of editing, I have turned Motion off for now.
I can click once on each icon, and a slider appears above it that allows me to set the starting point for that icon's movie. The problem is that I can't finely select the starting point I want. Even if I move my mouse the shortest distance possible, the video jumps by about one minute increments. Same thing when I use the right or left arrows on the keyboard. I've tried variations with the shift, control, option and command keys, but nothing worked, and iDVD Help has no solution that I can find.
Is there any way that I can get the movie sliders to move in much smaller increments, preferably frame by frame? Thanks!

I never found out anything on this, so I just finished the project as best I could. Now I have Final Cut, and doubt I'll use iDVD again. Good luck!

  • Can't see the camera icon!

When I select the camera, I don't see the small camera icon. Instead, I see the three circles for rotation and the middle circle for the axis. Where is the camera icon? Also, How do you change the camera axis? I would like to move the axis away from the camera.
    Thanks

Look in the view button on the upper right of the canvas. Make sure that 3D overlays and 3D scene icons are checked.
You can change the axis of the camera in the camera tab. A viewpoint camera will have the axis on the camera body itself, while a framing camera will have the axis in the middle of the viewable frame of the camera.

  • Motion 3.0.2 bugs found from APTS Motion 3 book

Hello, I'm going through the Apple Pro Training Book for Motion 3 (great resource like all the other APTS books).
As a result, I have found some bugs/issues in Motion 3. Besides sending reports to Apple, I think I'll start this thread and keep a running list of ones I find as I go. Please add on if you find some from going through the APTS book.

+(sorry this is so long, but without seeing it, it's difficult to describe with few words)+
Chapter 4 has you working with 3D Overlays and the Compass/3D View Selector and 3D Scene Icons to see a wireframed camera and its relationship to an object as it shows the camera's field of view. You then use the 3D View tools to pan, orbit, and zoom the camera/object relationship around to change the perspective.
*Here's my buggy problem:* when I orbit the camera-object perspective around (that is, move the camera wireframe around a sphere pattern while the image is anchored to a canvas point) so that the camera icon is close to the left or right hand sides of the Canvas and the object's image plane is on a perpendicular with the monitor so that you can't see the object, then the object will flip incorrectly to a mirror image in relation to the wireframe camera even though the camera and object retain their correct spatial orientation in the wireframe, as well as the object's XYZ arrows.
In other words, Motion seems to get confused with the object's visual orientation even though it keeps the object's correct wireframed relationship to the camera including its XYZ arrows (the arrows continue to point in the correct orientation in relation to the camera, they don't flip with the visual image).
You can correct this by continuing to move the camera's orbit around the edges. It doesn't take wild orbit swings around to create this buggy behavior, just get the wireframe camera close to the left or right edges of the canvas and nudge the mouse back and forth. It will sporadically flip the object image between normal and mirror and back to normal.

  • Menu Labels- Premiere 4.0

I created a new menu template which has up to 16 scene marker icons. When I apply the template, all the marked scenes appear as expected, but I can only "rename" five per page. I created the additional scene icons by duplicating the orignals, so they have all the same components (text, background, boarder, etc). I just can't edit the titles for scenes above number five. Is there some limit to active scene markers?
    Vista, Premiere 4.0

    Steve,
Since I do not use PE for DVD creation, I could be way off base here, but doesn't PE create the necessary number of "scene selection" Menus, that are needed for the number of Chapter Markers? If that is the case, Alan could modify a Scene Selection Menu to hold, say 7 Links, and Save_As a new name, with the appropriate Main Menu to accommodate these (seem to recall that PE wants to see both, and then automatically handles generation of additional Menus, as needed), per the link that you offer.
Maybe my thinking is all wrong on how PE handles the Scene Selection Menus.
    Alan,
Beyond about 8-9 Buttons, users get very confused, even though you can fit up to 16 Buttons. The artistic layout also get compromised. Instead, I find that having multiple Scene Selecton Menus is a better route, with additional navigational Buttons to "Previous," and "Next," where necessary. I just did a Project with 35 "Chapters," and used 6 Scene Selection Menus. The last one also Linked to a Slideshow, while the "Play All" Button was on the Main Menu, along with the Link to Scene Selection 01. This Menu had a "Main Menu" Button, plus a "Next" Button. Scene Selection 02 had a "Main Menu" Button, plus a "Next" Button and a "Previous" Button. Same for most of the rest, until Scene Selection 06. It had only a "Main Menu" Button, plus a "Previous" Button. Otherwise, all Scene Selection Menus were the same. Now, I did use thumbnails for each "Chapter/Scene." The "Next," "Main," and "Previous" Buttons were just text.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Where is wireframe view mode in Motion 5?

Am I missing something, or is there no way to view, like in Motion 4 or FCP 7, a way to view and manipulate objects in wireframe view.  That way complex actions can be tweaked and viewed back in real time, without the heavy rendering.
Maybe I just can't find the toggle.
    gthomas

I've been through the apple archives for Motion manuals. Could not find a manual for 1.x, but since 2.0 onward, the options for wireframing have been the same: Emitters and Replicators. 3D scene icons are wireframed (that would be since 3.0).
Your speed issues stem from Motion using floating point all the time now. There's no option to use 8-bit (integer) color.
Turn off Field Rendering (docs say it nearly doubles rendering time and it's not necessary for non-broadcast projects) and Frame Blending.
You can also reduce quality and resolution of the canvas (Render > Draft [or Half or Quarter]), but I haven't noticed very much benefit in speed increase by doing this.  You can also use the (Render>) Custom settings and turn everything off or set to lowest quality options. [The benefit of this is that Text quality is also included in the resolution settings.]
Another option is to toggle visibility of layers. Turning off layers you don't immediately need to test an animation will speed things up considerably (depending on the object.)
And lastly: RAM Preview. Set a play range of 2 - 3 seconds worth though, unless you have a huge amount of RAM available. Along with that, shut down all other running apps.

  • I can't see my camera in motion

Hi! i already read some post about my problem, but I can't fix it yet.
I can't see the camera icon in the motion canvas. No matter if i zoom in or VERY out. No matter if i change the views, i still can't see it, i only see the framering and viewpoint handle. BUT! in my home computer i'm able to see my yellow outline camera icon, well i check put the preferences and they are exactly in the same way, so if somebody can help me put i'll be thankfully.

Ok, i start to click EVERYTHING in motion and i found it!!!!! to put the camera icon you need to check on the "3D scene icon" and "Show 3D overlays" in the view menu wich is just under the project bottom if you have the default layout. I hope this help to other peoples with the same tricky problem.

  • How are I supposed to make a 3D spinning icon after Photoshop CC removed the 3D Scene Position?

I've read about how to make a portion of my logo into a spinning icon but all of the tutorials involve using the 3D Scene Position adjustment in the timeline. However, with a recent update Adobe removed this feature. Is there another way to accomplish this? I cannot get the keyframes to work the same way using any of the other options, e.g. 3D camera position, 3D render settings, position, etc. Every time I set a keyframe the older one resets. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

I more or less figured out a way to do it. Use the 3D Mesh keyframes in the timeline layer of the object you are trying to animate.

  • How to set the window frame icon of javafx.scene.control.Alert ?

    Hi,
I am looking into using the new Java 8u40 Alert Dialogs (javafx.scene.control.Alert) and I am struggling with setting custom (application) icons for the window / stage.
I mean that icon, which appears in the upper left corner (on Windows OS) of the window frame, which you can set for normal stages with
    javafx.stage.Stage.getIcons()
Similarily I want to apply a custom stylesheet to the Alert.
    How can I do this?
Is it really only this way?
    ((Stage)alert.getDialogPane().getScene().getWindow()).getIcons().add(...) ?

I think you already have the recommended way to set an icon for Java 8u40.  Maybe some future Java version might add some additional API to make it a little bit less clunky, but for now, just go with the same code you have:
    ((Stage)alert.getDialogPane().getScene().getWindow()).getIcons().add(...) ?
It is the same technique used in:
javafx - How do you set the icon of a Dialog control Java FX/Java 8 - Stack Overflow
    and in makery's dialog tutorial:

  • Chapter icons don't match the scene in the movie

    Hi all,
Important note to start: I have read the article "Exporting to iDVD" that Tom Wolsky has recommended to other posters who have had trouble with their chapter markers.
I made a movie in Final Cut Express and exported it with chapter markers to iDVD. In the Scene Selection page, I chose a still image from each scene for the button.
The problem is that the button doesn't link to the right chapter. It's linking to a chapter one back in the movie (i.e when you click on the button for Scene 9, Scene 8 comes up.
    Any ideas?
    Andrew
    Thanks,
    Andrew

The only thing I can think of is that you might have made an error when you added your chapter markers in FCE. There is a specific procedure that you must follow. You might try resetting your chapter markers again and see if that cures the problem.

  • How do I fix a problem with .eps files not showing up properly in icon view

Actually my .eps files are not showing properly in any of the views but icon view is most important to me.  I am using OSX.8.5 on a mac mini and mac book air.  Almost all of my .eps files are conversions of .wmf files converted to .eps by WMF Converter software.  All of these files used to be on a PC running windows Vista using ST Thumbnails explorer to be able to view thumbnails.  For background info: I had to use a program to view the WMF files becasue hackers could put viruses into the thumbnail for WMF fies so instead of fixing the problem Microsoft disabled the thumbnail view for all WMF files.
A few of my .eps files are conversions of files created in CorelDraw 3x and converted to .eps in CorelDraw 3x.  Both types of .eps files misbehave the same.
I downloaded one .eps file today from the internet to see if it would misbehave the same way (it does).
Here is the problem: After a reboot when I first view a folder that contains .eps files in icon view I can see the file contents fine.  If I use the resize slider at the bottom of the window or resize the window itself then some or all of my .eps files revert to displaying the "generic icon" of a Loupe with a picture behind it.  If i can manage to put the resize slider to exactly where it was then my icons display the file contents as they did before I messed with the slider.  There seems to be no rhyme or reason as to when an icon will display as the file contents or when the generic icon comes up.  In some folders all the icons display correctly at the smallest icon size and in other folders the icons may display correctly or as only generic or a mix of generic and file contents.  Icons to files that came from the same source will not necessarily display the same way.  Icons to files that came from the same source and were converted by WMF Converter at the same minute do not necessarily display the same way.  If I display "info" for the files sometimes the previev pane of the info box will display the generic icon or sometimes it will show the file contents.  If I take an .eps icon that displays properly and drop it into a folder where all .eps icons are displayed as generic then that icon displays generic.  When I move that same icon out of that folder then it will display properly.  Icon view, list view, column view and cover flow view all display differently with no discernable pattern.  Sometimes I can see file contents in column view and not icon view.  Sometimes in cover flow and not in icon view.  It makes no difference if I have a handful of .eps files in a folder or hundereds of files in a folder.  After an undetermined amount of time the icons might display properly again or maybe not.
What I have done so far:  exhaustive search of the internet did not find anyone else with the same issue.  I checked and fixed all disk permission errors that disk utilities would fix.  I know that icon view and quick look are two different things, but, I did however, download and install an eps quicklook plugin that did not seem to make a difference for my issue.  BTW Quick look sometimes works and sometimes not (no discernable pattern to this behavior either).  I tried the cnet download fix for quicklook just for grins.  It had me force QL to reload plugins and it's cache then I cleared out the QL configuration files.  This did not seem to make a difference in the behavior of icon view or Quicklook.  The only two things I have found to be consistant are 1)  The "open with preview" always works but I know this is different because this preview actually generates a pdf view of the file. 2) When the icon does display the file contents it always displays correctly.
When you read this please be mindful of:  I am a Microsoft refugee not yet familiar with the Apple world so you may have to tell me how to do "simple" things.  I have no idea what is the difference between a "thumbnail" or a "preview" or the behind the scenes way that apple generates the icon appearance for the 4 different views.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.  I tried to insert a screen shot but got an error message when I did it.

Was the error number really 0XE8....

  • Is there a way in fcpx to keep timeline clean for just one scene at a time ?

It would be so wonderful if I could just see the scene I'm working on in the timeline rather than the whole project....
I tried to make a compound clip of all the material related to one scene  and double clicked it ....it opened in a single timeline but I felt it behaves a little differently than the parent timeline when it comes to making tracks.....
To be impractically point blank....is there a way of making the project timeline empty when Im treating one particular scene such that I don't see anything else .....and can bring back everything when I want ?

You can't really make the clips "disappear" completely, but you can go a long way to making the workspace more pliable.
Open the Timeline index (2nd icon, bottom left of FCPX) and click the Roles tab. To the right of each role is a small icon.
["normal" timeline view... thumbnails, audio waveforms, etc..]
Clicking on those icons will "minimize" the onscreen information (turn off the thumbnails and audio waves, etc) creating "blank" placeholders.
You can go one step further and select the clips you want to turn off and type V to toggle their "visibility" (this will eliminate anything from those clips from showing up in the canvas -- it will just be "black" and silent until toggled back on — *and* it will dim the clips further [see next image]).
You can then Assign a custom Role (go to Modify > Edit Roles) and create new custom Video role (and possibly audio too, if you need to isolate waveforms and have them show in your workspace). For the clips you want to work with immediately, select them all and Assign Roles > whatever name you used. In the illustration below, I used "Under Construction". (You can also toggle the canvas visibility of the clips off by *unchecking* the role in the Roles inspector.)
At the right side of the image, you'll see a normal looking clip amongst the "blanked out" clips on the storyline — it was assigned the role "Under Contruction" and its setting overrides the default Video settings. This technique should help you adequately isolate your "working scenes".  When you've done, you can either create another role ("finished") or revert the roles back to the plain Video and/or Audio (Dialogue) default roles. (Remember to select and type V again to turn their visibilities back on.)

Quit the app and restart the iPad.
In order to quit or close apps - Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
    Try the videos app again.
