3d Shapes display

I need to put together a display that's capable of showing 3d space with a variety of 3d shapes at the same time. Not fussed about having control over the camera angle (isometric is fine) but it needs to respond rapidly to any changes or additions to the scene. Was going to look into swing for this, so I thought I'd ask here first if that's necessary.
I have very little experience doing any sort of graphics beyond some simple GUI stuff, so it's well possible that I've missed the obvious/simple way of approaching this so just a quick approach description from someone with some more experience might prevent a fair bit of stuffing around.

Custom shapes display

I use PSE 8.
Over time, I have added a number of brushes, patterns, and custom shapes to the presets. And am real happy I can do so!
However, for the custom shapes, it lists them in columns from left to right and I am unable to see them all. Yes, I do have a lot!
Other than deleting, is there any other way to see them all?

Thanks MTS - that's a workable solution,
But I think I'm going to set up a folder in my pic files just for shapes. And I'll make a pic file of each shape that I am going to delete and save it in the shapes folder.
There are a number of shapes that I only use one or two of, so shouldn't be too time-consuming right:?!!!!
It's a shame tho that you can't delete some shapes from a file, and also add to others! Life would be so much easier!

Random Visio Stencils Displaying Only as Black and White Lines (No colour)

I'm experiencing a strange problem where some Visio stencils/shapes are displaying only as black and white outlines (i.e. - without any colour). I'm using Visio 2010 on a Samsung NC900 laptop with 8gb RAM, 1.7Ghz i7 CPU on Windows 7.
The symptoms that I'm experiencing are:
The majority of stencils display fine in the left hand stencil window but some do not.
Some stencils display the majority of shapes as black and white outlines but some in full colour.
Some shapes display fine within the stencil window but change to black and white outline when I drag them to the drawing (These are typically ones that I open independently of the drawing - i.e. - by double clicking rather than via "Search Shapes").
I've done a search on the web for this problem and have found some similar issues but none of the suggested fixes work.
One of the stencils that I experience this issue with is the Exchange 2013 Microsoft stencil.
I've updated Java and Silverlight (stab in the dark there) and my graphics driver is up to date.
It's driving me mad now so any help would be appreciated!

The remove profile worked like a charm with the greyscale images. Maybe a slight loss of contrast, but I'll hold the tiff scan in any case. I-photo would not import the image again (already in the library) but I can remove the profile on the image in my folder outside i-photo. And I think I can prevent it at import now.

Transparent Background - shape layer?

CS4
So I have this great little shape and I want to save it as a jpeg with a transparent background so that IE will show a gradient around it. However, IE is showing only a white background around the shape. My the thumbnail in the shape layer is also white (not the vector mask's thumbnail). How can I export this shape to jpeg and have a transparent background that IE understands?

Thank you Bart. As is typical, I was confused and had the features of jpeg and gif confused.
I'm curious though, why do you say "gif preferred"? At least in IE7 both file type are displayed with transparent background. However, the PNG is noticeably sharper. Is the issue just the increase file size?
(FYI: for anyone reading this that may have the same issue. When I first created a GIF instead of the JPEG as Bart said to do, I still did not see the shape displayed with a transparent background - or at least I didn't think I did. The issue was with my CSS. My header div loads a graphic as a background image. The logo was in a logo style class, again as a background, that was assigned to a div that was a descendent. I had assumed that the logo was going to load "above" the header graphic in the Z order. That didn't happen. So what I was seeing was the white background of the browser and not a white background of the logo image. FWIW.)

Linking multiple emails to a single event in ical and/or to do's

Hi:
Often I receive emails and I want to link them to an event in ical. OS X does this just fine as long as there is date in the email that OS X can recognize. The problem is sometimes I get multiple emails relating to the same event and I would like to be able to link all of those emails to one single event in ical. My same questions applies to 'to do' items.
And a follow up question--say I receive an email that has no date explicit in the text-I've tried to find some function that would allow me to schedule a new event in ical and would link that email to it. (I hope that all makes sense) I'm open to whatever solution I'll even pay money for 3rd party software if anyone knows of a good program. But I"m looking to stick to the basic ical interface. Any suggestions?

visio graphics, may only support for one row.
you may consider this idea :
"It is a good idea to separate your rows into visual units so that you have everything you need and nothing else in a single row. To link a shape to a data row, simply drag the row from the external data window and drop it on the shape. A default data
graphic should immediately appear next to the shape displaying some data from the row. From here you are able to customize the graphic to fit your needs"

How do you make superscripts and mathematics in Preview's text annotation?

When adding text annotations that include scientific notations, how do you make superscripts, e.g. "3.2 × 10^{-23}"?
Searching Help for 'superscript' turns up nothing, suggesting the command does not exist, as it does under Baseline etc. in iWork. Please tell me this is not the case! If it is, has the situation been improved in the new operating system?
A related issue: I wish to include other mathematics -- is there a way to include mathematics similar to LaTeX? Might Preview incorporate using latex code in the future, so I can easily type "\exp{-\lambda t}" etc and have the math appear?
I'm adding text annotations to PDF lecture notes in Preview, basically filling in blanks the instructor has left so students will pay attention in class, and these annotations include superscripts; I wish to format properly.

Once you have the circle shape displayed, long press on the border of the circle. Once it is highlighted, drag horizontally or vertically. This should allow you to distort the circle into an ellipse (or the square into a rectangle).

Assign multiple records to a single graphic in Visio (Or SharePoint 2013 in Office 365)

Hello,
I would like to make a live seating chart for an event. I am pulling data from a SharePoint 2013 list that has names and table numbers (and other stuff). There will be 10 names per table. Each name is a record, not each table number.
10 names will have the same table number. I can only see where Visio lets me attach one record to a graphic. I can automatically link Tbl# (in my list) to
Table_No in the graphic but it will only pick up the first entry, not all 10. Is there a way to tell Visio to look at the list, and where
Tbl# equals Table_No attach the first and last name from all 10 records to the graphic? I want it to be dynamic so when they edit the list, the tables change accordingly.
Maybe there is an app for that in SharePoint? I am working on Office 365 SharePoint.

Is there a way to slow down the playback of video in Captivate 5?

I just made several recordings (FMR) and would like to slow them down for the viewer. The video was actually of someone else's software demo that moved way too fast. On the Captivate skin there is "2x" to move the video twice as fast, but no "1/2x". Is there another way to slow down the video?

Is there any way to slow down playback?

i'm trying to note down times of changes in the music for an animation i'm doing but am new to soundbooth - is there any way of simply slowing down the music file i have to note these down easier?

4:3 playback on 16:9 monitors is distorted

I have a DVD with 4:3 and 16:9 footage on separate tracks. When I encoded with BitVice and authored with DVDSP, I thought I set all aspect ratio settings correctly.
The DVD does play back correctly on 4:3 monitors: 4:3 footage is full frame and 16:9 footage plays back letterboxed as I intend.
However, on 16:9 monitors, the 16:9 footage correctly fills the screen but the 4:3 footage also does. 4:3 footage gets stretched and distorted horizontally, until I change the setting on the DVD player during playback.
Is this typical, or is there some setting I missed that will automatically put black bars on the side for just the 4:3 footage when played on a 16:9 monitor?

Actually, if you pillarbox (your 4:3 material), setting your DVDSP track to *16:9 Pan-Scan* will force DVD players connected to 4:3 sets to crop the pillarboxes, providing the desired full-frame image. For DVD players connected to 16:9 monitors, the image will be displayed with pillarboxes.
In case you're tempted, +do not+ use the 16:9 Pan-Scan & Letterbox display mode, as that setting is dependent on the exact 4:3 TV shape/Display setting of your DVD player (most have two: 4:3 Letterbox and 4:3 Regular) thereby producing unreliable results. (16:9 Pan-Scan works on either setting.)
In case it matters, I've been doing this (16:9 Pan-Scan with pillarboxed encodes) for a few years now with great success.

Visio - Remove/Delete Realization Link

Hi,
I am using Visio 2010.
I created a class and an interface in a Class Diagram. I put a realization link from the class to the interface and I want to delete it. However, Visio does not let you delete it due to Shape protection.
Is it actually possible to remove it?
I can move the realization link away from the interface so it points to no object - but I still have a line I cannot get rid of. I can hide the realization link from the Shape Display Options, but when I show it again it reappears. I just want
to move the stupid link. See below:
This is frustrating.
Can it be done?
And on another note, I cannot seem to add more than 3 realizations on a single class.

The only way I found to remove "rogue" realization link(s) was to drag the class from the model pane to the diagram to duplicate the shape, delete the original shape, and rearrange the new shape to reflect the old one.
As far as the maximum of 3 realizations per class, I had the same problem and didn't find a solution.

Compressing Video for DVD Burn Makes Text Look jagged

Hello,
I'm currently at the final steps of a lengthy video production project and am struggling to make the text elements of my finished video display correctly after compression prior to burning it to DVD.
I create and produce music for a living and don't have nearly as much experience with video editing. I'm a bit new to all of this and am using FCE 4.0.1 to create my video & Compressor and DVD Studio Pro 2 to compress and author video for DVD.
*My main issue is this:*
I'm using an imported still image as the title card for my film. It's a mixture of large plain Helvetica Neu font text with some additional stylized lettering created in Photoshop (which is why I'm not using FCE's built-in text generators for the title card). The typography isn't very wild and crazy, it's basically big bold letters and a few gentle curves. I exported the image (1200x600) from Photoshop as a .png and imported it into FCE.
When I export my finished video file (.png title card and all) out of FCE, I export it as a raw uncompressed Quicktime file:
Apple Intermediate Codec 1440x1080i
29.97 fps
Pixel Aspect Ratio: HD (1440x1080) (Anamorphic not checked).
Field Dominance: Upper (Odd).
(It displays in quicktime at 1920x1080 though.)
After initially exporting from FCE, the title card image and all the other text in my movie created from FCE's built-in text generators look fine. It's only after I compress the finished movie in DVD Studio Pro or Compressor that I get jagged looking edges on the curves of my letters, primarily the title card image (the text generated by FCE's generators holds up okay).
In compressor I'm using the "MPEG-2 6.2 Mbps 2-pass settings for DVD" preset and in DVD Studio Pro. Using '2 pass VBR', 'Best' motion tracking, 'best' and 'highest quality' on all the compression settings I can find. I'm encoding at a total rate of 6.5Mb/sec max and 6Mb/sec average. These are standards for compressing to DVD and since I'm preparing a master for reproduction, I've been told I shouldn't increase the data rate over this or I'll run into player compatibility issues down the line.
Any ideas on how I can make this text image last through the compression process and still look clean and crisp without having to increase the data rate of compression? I'm going to play with different file formats for now, but it that doesn't work I don't know where to go from there.

I started with a variety of HD raw footage (most of it gathered on Canon 5D Mkii SLR Digital camera in the form of: H.624 1920x1080) but converted all my raw footage prior to editing into:

I edited everything in Final Cut Express 4.0.1 using the AVCHD Apple Intermediate Codec 1440x1080i60 at 29.97 fps sequence preset.
When I finished editing all my video I exported it as a raw uncompressed quicktime file which is also:
Apple Intermediate Codec 1440x1080i
29.97 fps
Pixel Aspect Ratio: HD (1440x1080) (Anamorphic not checked).
Field Dominance: Upper (Odd).
But when played in quicktime this finished video displays at 1920x1080, which I'm happy with. (I'm assuming this is the proper behavior of Apple Intermediate Codec? It seemed to take 1920x1080 footage, converted it to 1440x1080, and then spit it back out as 1920x1080 after the whole editing process.)
But seeing as how my issue is with an image file I'm creating in Photoshop and importing into my video sequence, I don't quite understand how the rest of my footage would really effect it. I've made sure to create the image using the same dimensions and pixel aspect ratio as my sequence frames by using one of the standard Photoshop screen templates (HD widescreen 1440x1080). I save my title card image as a non-interlaced .png file and import it into FCE.
When I place the imported image on the timeline, FCE doesn't resize it because it matches the frame dimensions of the sequence. When I view the image at 100% in FCE's viewer all of the image's lines, curves, and shapes display properly as they appear in my original photoshop file.
But for some reason FCE treats this imported .png image file as a 'rendered proxy.' So while it looks fine in FCE prior to rendering and exporting, when I export the video sequence containing this newly imported title card image, the resulting uncompressed quicktime file contains jagged horizontal lines across some of the characters in the title card image. It almost looks as if there's some interlacing issue going on.
However after much experimentation and trial and error I landed on a custom compression setting in Compressor that seemed to take care of this issue. I did as you recommended and selected a high quality 7.5 Mbps encoding preset (7.5 Mbps max/6.4 Mbps average), but noticed a 2 pass VBR rendered better results. What really seemed to do the trick was adding a deinterlace filter to the compression preset, and that miraculously seemed to eliminate the jagged lines in my title card image, restoring it to its original appearance (at least during my initial inspection in Compressor's preview mode).
After letting Compressor crank away, I looked at the finished compressed video in quicktime and the jagged interlaced-looking lines in my title card image have returned. Compressor's preview was somehow misguided.
Now my plan is to burn this compressed video to a DVD and view it on a TV to see if maybe these jagged lines in the final compressed version are only being caused by viewing on my computer's monitor. I'm hoping this is the case, otherwise I'm at a loss of what to do next.
If you need any more details please let me know. Otherwise I hope this is enough to give you a better idea of what issues I'm dealing with.

Rectangle tool won't show 4 sides

Using NO FILL and with stroke to inside or center, the shape displays only 1 side...bottom line. With stroke set to outside, the rectangle shows 3 sides - left, top & right. If I FILL, I do get a full rectangle, but I need an empty rectangle. Never had this problem before. Just applied Adobe Cloud update this morning (Fireworks already up-to-date). Have restarted and deleted cache. Same problem.

How to get mouse over shape to display data in Visio 2013?

Hi Visio pros,
I am required to create a diagram of our servers rack setup and will be publishing to a Web page using Visio 2013.
The goal is to mouse over the server shape and have the data be displayed. I have followed arguably every solution on the internet. I am either doing it wrong, or it might be outdated information.
I'm hoping Paul Herber, or other Visio pros would be able to help me with this situation as I am on a tight schedule and have exhausted my resources.
Things I have tried:

I am open to the possibility that I may have done something wrong as I am very new to Visio.

Browser that I am using is Internet Explorer since I ran into problems with Google Chrome.
However, after more reading I noticed the User.visEquivTitle provides a tooltip. If it is what I think it is, which is a small yellow box displaying a string, my employer would not want that.
We're looking for something that will provide an aesthetic display of data after mouse over onto the shape.
