3D Shutter Glasses for Boot Camp Win 7 Using the iMac i7?

Hello. I've tried anaglyph 3D gaming but do you have any recommendations on an affordable but good 3D shutter glasses that'll work great on the iMac's screen (i7 late 2009, 8GB). I plan to play games on it using Windows 7 64-bit. Other recommendations are welcome. Thank you in advance.

You may be seeing one aspect of the USB ports problem that some of us see: inability to see some USB printers at all, problem in working with the USB device for many minutes, and disabled USB services within virtual machines on a Boot Camp Windows host (VMware software not fully functional because of USB controller not quite right).
See this thread:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2411685&start=0&tstart=0
It looks like problems with the USB host controller, and it shows up for devices that run software to check the ports before trying to use them. I hope Apple eventually acknowledges the problem (going on since April at least) and fixes the firmware and/or Boot Camp drivers.

  • Option Key for Boot Camp not working with New iMac Keyboard

Hi, I own a early 2006 Intel iMac. Recently, my wife complained that the keyboard was getting dirty. Basically I think she liked the new keyboard on the new Aluminum iMac better. We purchased it back in August and everything worked great. Oh I also had the beta version of Boot Camp installed. Everything worked great, hold Option down on boot and could choose which OS to go into.
Fast forward to now, purchased Leopard and love it! Decided to wipe the system and do a fresh install. Everything is installed (Leopard, Boot Camp, Windows XP) and working great, that is except when I press and hold the Option key at start up. If I have the new keyboard installed, the Option key does not bring up the boot manager. However if I plug the original keyboard in and hold Option, it works!!!
Ok I could see a problem if the new keyboard was NOT an Apple product. But it is and frustraiting as I can use the control panel to choose. This is a long round about method and does not make a happy wife with me. HELP!

Thanks for the info! I was about to call myself and I may still do so. I am hoping if Apple gets enough of these calls then maybe it will spur them on to get it done sooner. (Apple are you listening) I will do the same with the KB swapping, she will be happy at least she can still use the new keyboard. She types a lot and has be really happy with the new keyboard and its response.
    Thanks again for the help!!!

  • Need to format the partition for Boot Camping to NTFS.  How do I do this?

So yes, I have searched online to find a way to format the partitioned to NTFS so I can Boot Camp my Mac Mini and have found nothing that I can use.  Instead, all I have found are horror stories of others messing up their Macs when doing this.  I want to be sure I do this as correctly as possible because I do adore my computer.
For Boot Camping, I have followed the steps and started the installation of Windows 7 but when it comes to choosing the partition it says I can't because it's not in NTFS format.  Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Heh! Yes, it's one of those things that are simple, once you know where to look. Glad you got it figured out.
You won't quite be done once Win 7 is done installing. You'll notice that the graphics in Windows likely won't be very good, and in general running kind of slow. That's because the Windows DVD had no drivers for Mac hardware.
So you need your Snow Leopard disk. Either the first gray disk your Mac came with, it if shipped with Snow Leopard, or the retail disk you purchased.
From the Windows 7 desktop, put the Snow Leopard disk in the drive. Windows will pop up the usual message about what you want to do with an external drive. Choose "Run Setup". It will run for a while as the drivers for your Mac hardware are installed for Win 7.
Once that's done, you'll have menu icon for Apple Software Update. Run that to see if it needs to download and install any other Boot Camp updates, which would any updated Win 7 drivers for you Mac.

If you do really want to partition your hard drive then you need to look in your utilities folder for disk utility.
Once this is open, click on your hard drive image in the left hand column and then you will see a partition tab. Here you can split your HD into two partitions. Call one of them XP or something like that so that you know where to install windows.
It's quite safe and you can always go back to one big partition if things do not work out.
    Remember though to backup first...
    To the OP
Do not heed this advice, you should use Boot Camp Assistant to create the partition for Boot Camp, do not use Disk Utility.

  • HT3777 how to undo partition for boot camp

I want to undo the partition for boot camp, we never use it and use VMware
    instead. Can this be done?

So you never installed Windows natively and Fusion is not using anything other than its own image?
Some people dual boot and use VM.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4818
The install guide is also how to remove the partition, you do so from same utility.
    http://support.apple.com/manuals/#macos
Seeing you are on 10.5.8 ? then that really goes back to 2008, too.
But G5s never supported Windows, so guess you have a different system now.

  • Black/Blank Screen with Boot Camp Win 7 Install on new 27" iMac

I'm having a problem getting Windows 7 on a new 27" iMac and am familiar with the Boot Camp Windows installation process. Here's what I've done...
    1. Run Boot Camp from OSX, partition the drive.
    2. Insert Win 7 cd, proceed with installation.
    3. Computer restarts and the 'preparing for initial setup' message displays with the Win 7 splash screen. When it switches to where it should be displaying the Win 7 desktop, the screen is black.
I can hear the Mac still running, but there's no display. It's like it's waiting for some type of user input for the intial Windows setup (haven't yet entered the key).
I've done a hard shutdown and restarted Windows with the exact same result. After reboot, I get the 'Windows was not shut down properly' message with the 3 safe mode options, where choosing either gets me the 'Windows cannot complete setup in safe mode'. And any key reboots it.
The Mac side still runs fine and holding the option key at start up gives the Mac/Win boot options.
I'm inclined to think that it's a video driver issue since the 27" is brand new. Maybe Apple used a new video card for the larger screen and haven't updated the Boot Camp drivers. I checked on ATI's site for an updated driver for the Radeon HD 4670 they say is in the new 27" model that's currently available. (not the quad core)
Is there any workaround for this? I was thinking of installing Vista instead, and upgrading to Win7 once installed, but if it's a driver thing, it would just be a long way to the same result and could have the same problem with Vista as well.
    Any ideas?

I think I figured out what is happening here with the video drivers on the new iMac's and Win7. I believe it's re-directing the video to the mini display-port output when you see the screen go blank. I installed my Win7 x64 with no issues but I had an external monitor hooked up at the time and while it was installing the O/S my iMac went black but everything moved over to my external screen. Once it finished installing then everything went back to normal after a reboot.
Not sure if that helps anyone but pretty sure that's what is going on. So if you have another monitor handy, get the mini display-port adaptor from Apple and connect your external screen before you install Win7. Cheers!
P.S. If you have one of the new iMac's and want to install the latest Radeon drivers (after you have installed Win7 on your iMac), try the following. Download and install the drivers from ATI/AMD directly. They'll try to install and fail (no worries) but now the driver/install files will be unzipped into an ATI folder on your main Windows hard drive.
Now go to this site: http://www.driverheaven.net/modtool.php and download the tool and use the Vista instructions listed on the main page of the URL above. You shouldn't need to download the MSXML 6.0 and I don't think you need to disable the UAC stuff like they suggest for Vista (I didn't) and it works fine. UAC is not nearly as intrusive on Win7 as it is in Vista so I think that's why it worked for me and pretty sure the MSXML 6.0 is already in Win7. Once the program has modified the mobile Radeon drivers then you can run "setup" from your ATI directory and the new drivers will finally install correctly including the Catalyst Control Center. Voila! I now have 9.10 drivers up and running on my new 27" iMac and working perfectly so far.

  • How do I fix my Internet on my Boot Camp Win 2008 R2 installation?

I have a brand new Macbook Pro running OS X 10.8.2 and Boot Camp 5.0.1 and I got a legit copy of Windows Server 2008 R2  SP1 from my MSDN subscription. I installed it with Boot Camp and then updated the drivers with the Apple drivers BC supplied.
In Windows, everything works great except the internet. I tried reinstalling the drivers and it didnt help. I went into Device Manager and the ethernet adapter is properly installed. However, Bluetooth has a /!\ and so does an "Unknown Device." Everything that I have read about this says to reinstall the manufacturers drivers, but as I mentioned, that doesn't seem to get it working.
What do I need to do to get the Internet working? Is Server 2008 R2 supported by Boot Camp?

Windows Server 2008 is not supported. See the system requirements for Bootcamp and Windows. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1899 .
Install Windows Server 2008 using a virtual machine like Parallels or Fusion.

  • Custom icon for Boot Camp partition on Snow Leopard desktop?

I have a Boot Camp partition (NTFS) with Windows XP. In Snow Leopard, the partition shows on the desktop with a generic hard drive icon. I'd like to change this to a custom icon, but when trying to paste over the generic icon in the Get Info window, Edit->Paste is grayed out.
In Leopard, it was possible to have a custom icon for a Boot Camp partition by formatting a thumb drive as FAT32, pasting the custom icon onto it in the Get Info window, booting into Windows XP, and copying two invisible icon files from the thumb drive to the NTFS drive. This would display the custom icon for the Boot Camp partition icon on the Leopard desktop. This doesn't work in Snow Leopard.
Is it possible to use a custom icon for a Boot Camp partition on the Snow Leopard desktop?

I don't see this option in Properties for the Boot Camp volume. In any case, I believe the custom icon is set correctly for the C: drive in Windows. I followed he procedure in the second paragraph of my initial post, which I learned from a post over a year ago. I copied the two hidden files .VolumeIcons.icns and ._ File _ to the C: drive. When I boot into Leopard, the correct custom icon for the Boot Camp partition appears on the Leopard desktop. But when I boot into Snow Leopard, only a generic hard drive icon appears on the desktop for that partition.

  • Can I use a NVIDIA card only for Boot Camp in MacPro5,1

I bought an ACER HN274H 3D monitor and then found out that 3D (primarily for gaming) won't work with the ATI Radeon HD 5870 card that I have in the PCI Express 2.0 x16 slot.  I assume the easiest fix would be to put a NVIDIA card in one of the remaining PCI Express 2.0 x4 slots.  A post from 2008 said that 2 cards should work if only one is plugged into the monitor at a time - one for MacOSX and the other for Boot Camp.  I wanted to confirm if that still is the case for Boot Camp where I'm running Windows 7.  What would be a reasonable NVIDIA card that would not exceed power of 300W combined maximum for all PCI Express slots (no other PCI cards currently); primarily for gaming with 3D option.
This would be for a Mac Pro bought in Nov 2010.  Other relevant info:
      Processor Name:          Quad-Core Intel Xeon
      Processor Speed:          3.2 GHz
      Number Of Processors:          1
      Total Number Of Cores:          4
BTW, HN274H works ok in 2D for both OS's.

300W is without using two 6-pin aux power video card cables, 75W per slot.
So as long as the 5870 is present you need to look into a 450W PSU to rig together to add 6/8-pin aux power to an additional card.
My understanding though is that a PC card under OS X needs support, the fan can run constantly.... not my forte as to how and what to expect.
    OSX and Graphics Cards
GTX 460 and above would fill your needs.

  • Clone Windows HD to use for Boot Camp

    Hello Apple Forum!
I have a bit of an issue. I have had a laptop where the motherboard has died on me. The harddrive is perfectly fine though. What i want to do is clone the hard drive and have that set as the partition for Boot Camp. Is this possible?
    - First, could I put the hard drive into another laptop to clone it to an external HD? Even though there will be driver issues when I boot up WIndows 7 Pro.
    - Second, once I have the copied image onto my external hard drive, could I clone that to the boot camp partition?
Or, would I need to install a fresh installation of Windows 7 Pro on the Boot Camp, then download Acronis True Image and allow Acronis to handle the disk image on my external hard drive?
    Thanks.

    Moving Windows means
You have retail copy in order to reactivate
    Dell OEM won't work
The motherboard drivers are totally different and can't be uninstalled.
    Clean install is required
I'll leave it to you as to what methods to clone that can restore onto a Mac with hyrid GPT

  • Boot-camp Win XP SP3 Sound Device drivers incompatible

    Hi,
I have recently installed windows XP on boot camp and installed all the correct software, but the sound card does not work! I installed the boot camp software on XP from the Leopard DVD and everything worked fine except the sound. I then installed the recent update for boot-camp 2.1 from "Apple Software update" hoping that this would solve the problem. It didn't. I then went back to the Leopard DVD and explored through the installers in there. I knew that the Sigmatel driver was missing, so I ran the installer for that from the CD. The installation seemed to work, and it asked me to restart, so I did, when windows came back up again the installer popped up to complete the installation but half way through, an error message came up and told me that "The driver you are trying to install is incompatible with this version of windows. Click OK to end the setup". I then tried going into Device manager and manually installing the drivers from the Sigmatel directory. yet another message stopped me "This file does not contain information about the device you are trying to install" and clicking ok takes you back to driver selection. I then thought about trying the installer for Realtek and went through the same process, this time the installer finished correctly but the driver was still not present, so back to device manager again. In the Realtek folder there were at least a dozen files containing drivers, so i tried them all, without success and seeing the "does not contain information about the device" message.
If anyone knows how to help, plz do. Thanks

Hi..yeah..can anyone help on this please..
im also experiencing the same problem..ive also tried realtek R249..
    thanks...

I have just loaded Windoze XP on Boot Camp partition but after loading drivers (at least a half dozen times) none of the hardware is enabled - audio/nVidia graphics etc reports no drivers installed. I have visited the nVidia website and downloaded the latest drivers but still after installing - no drivers installed! Anyone else have this problem? Any fix or must we await a revision of boot camp with newer drivers?

I have noted a link to the latest version for Windows XP.
