3d Solid Layer Glitch.

Hello, I am trying to mask an object in my composition, but whenever I create a solid layer and turn into 3d, it creates a weird glitch with the background image. Please help, I want to remove that particle looking affect on the solid.

Ok and one more question, when I press f4, I do not see Track Matte tabs for my "Citadel Pic" layer like the other picture has. How do I get those Track Matte tabs like in the other picture?

I do not know how to tell if my GPU is compatible or not and I am not planning to bend the layer. I am trying to follow this tutorial right here.

Solid Layer Shape messed up

Hi, I am trying to create an energy beam/blast for a project. I created an ellipse shape on my solid layer but when I try to expand the shape with the pen tool it becomes a rectangle. I am not sure what I did wrong but here is a screen shot of the problem. Help would be much appreciated.

It works as it is supposed to - your solid is simply too small and outside the bounds there are no visible pixels when the mask goes over the edge.

Sizing issue when pasting corner pin data from mocha ae onto a solid layer. Please help!!

When I bring in my corner pin tracking data from mocha ae and paste it onto a solid layer that I created, it sizes the layer to the corner pins, but I want it to stay the whole size of the screen. I'm following a tutorial at the address http://www.videocopilot.net/tutorials/sub_surface_skin/ and there is no mention of this problem in the tutorial. I am following the tutorial exactly, and using the latest version of After Effects. Any help would be much appreciated.

I took some photos of a simpler version of whats going on.
Just in AE with my footage.
About to track in mocha.
Tracked in mocha (only tracked half because i didnt want to wait).
Adding a solid to paste my corner pin data to.
Masked it to where I wanted it.
Selected the type of data I wanted.
Copy to clipboard.
Paste.
Great... the insert image thing grayed out.
Going to have to post the last pic separately.

Color of SOLID layer

Can we change color of our SOLID LAYER after made them?
Without any FX tools?
I made a black solid layer but then I want to change color of it. How to do that? There is no any properities of that layer or something like that. Even when I click 2x on it I can't see option to change selected color.

Before this I used my custom drop-down menu and expression on Transform:

By scripting you can do :
     var source = this_layer.source;
     source.width = newWidth;
     source.height = newHeight;
     Be careful as this will affect all layers throughout the project that have that same solid as source.
By expression, you can't.

Masking a Solid Layer with an Effect

Should be easy, you would think.
I have a solid layer (white) with a radio waves effect applied to it. I've got the effect dialed in and it's what I want, but I want to mask off just a triangular portion of this layer, creating a beam shape (not eminating in 360 degrees.)
But my mask has no effect on the effect, if you know what I mean. I've tried inverting the mask and changing the mask modes but nothing works.
Isn't there a way of masking a shape layer with an effect on it?

Precompose or nest.
Apply the triangular masking to the nest.
Think of it this way, your'e making a movie of the radio wave effect then importing the movie and applying a mask to the movie.
You can also set Radio Waves to use closed but custom shapes as the emission source but that's often more trouble than simply masking a nested pr precomposed sequence.

Masking paint brush solid layer

Howdy,
I searched the web to figure out my issue but couldn't find the right answer anywhere.
I feel like it should be a very simple solution.
I am drawing animations with the brush tool onto a black solid layer which is set to add blending mode.
My goal is to create a mask on the solid layer to hide a certain area of what I drew... but it doesn't change anything.
I noticed when I add another effect to the layer (such as curves) the mask does hide that area of the effect, but thats not exactly what I'm trying to do.

You can't mask directly on a paint layer but you can use a black solid set to screen, draw the mask on the black solid and use that as a track matte for your paint layer or you can pre-compose the paint layer and mask the pre-comp. It's a render order thing.

In pse 9 there is a button at the bottom of the layers panel, which you press
to get the list of adjustment layers.
Also Layer>New Fill Layer>Solid Color.

Smart object layer glitch

When converting an existing layer to a smart object there seems to be some sort of glitch that causes the layer to become scrambled. I'm guessing it has something to do with the graphics card. Take a look at the video below and see if it makes any sense. I appreciate any help or ideas!

This same thing is happening to me, only when dragging in images from other programs (PS automatically creates a smart object from external images).
Creates an insane glitch pattern, in which I can see other, completely unrelated smart objects inside of?

After Effect CS 5 layer glitch?

Hey all,
first of all, i'm new here and i'm not a pro adobe user so please bear with me!
I have been working on this project for over a year in after effects. It contains more than 1300 layers and has always worked perfectly, untill now.
For no appearant reason, suddenly after effects is glitching with my layers, especially the 'last' ones ( the ones completely at the buttom).
All layers are 2D, there is no 3D layer to be found.
I recon it has something to do with after effects naming the layers past the first 1000 exactly the same? Strange thing is that i have been working like this for over a month and it never glitched untill now ...
I cant select my layers, and when i try it jumps back to the middle of my comp and all layers 'dissapear'. It still shows in the above right corner the correct layer but it is imposible to work with correctly ...
Hope you understand my ramblings! Anyone know any way to fix this? Thanks in advance!

There is a limitation (a bug, really) that causes the After Effects UI to not correctly display items in lists if the lists are more than 32,000 pixels tall. In the case of a list of layers in the Timeline panel, that limit is hit somewhere over 1,000 layers.
If you have so many layers in a single composition, then you should probably be doing a lot more precomposing.

Problems with backgroundColor in UI when creating a Solid layer in Timeline

When you are running scripts that use the backgroundColor property to draw swatches (like colorLibrary and SwatchYouWant) and try to create a New Solid in TImeline, script panels go gray. This way, you cannot use the color picker to select your Solid's color. This was possible with versions older than Adobe CC. Anyone knows anything about this issue?

I have had the same issue but in Solaris 10 platform.
In my case it was a hardened server, I had to use a non-root user with the minimal permissions.
While my user didn't have permissions, DSCC always showed the error message you posted. I debugged for a while and the solution was to grant some permissions to the user that runs DSCC and cacao.
You can navigate in DSCC because most pages in DSCC only depends on DSCC Registry to work. But when you need to register or start a directory server, DSCC executes dsadm and dsconf in the local machine (where common agent and ldap instances run).
In unix, cacao calls suexec function and forks dsadm and dsconf processes with the user configured in each ldap instance. If cacao is not allowed to fork and to suexec, you'll get the error message, therefore I granted the user to execute "su" command and added the attributes "basic" with moduser.
In windows it could be the same thing, but with windows stuff. I don't know how to debug and set permissions in Windows but I'm almost sure that it is the problem in your case.
It could be that you are not allowed to fork programs if you are not registered in the domain. Please just check it and provide feedback.

Importing Photoshop layer glitch?

I imported a PS file that has 14 layers into AE CS5.
I brought the comp of it into the timeline.
It automatically imported it as a 2 frame comp, which I know I can change.
The problem is that one frame is correct, the next is flipped horizontally? I haven't added any effects to the comp.
When I lengthened the comp and then stretch timewise all the layers with in it, the first half the all the frames are correct, the second are flipped horizontally.
What is going on? I just want a comp to be 30 seconds and have all the layers within the comp 30 seconds, and I want them all the way I created them, not half flipped horizontally.
Does this sound even remotely familiar to anyone? I've imported a 4 layer layered PSD and didn't have this strange problem.
EDIT: This is because I accidentally had import sequence checked. It was importing a previous version that had the image flipped horizontally.

Need help with swapping footage and solid 3d layer

Here's my situation: I have a .mov file which i want to place inside that red solid layer [1]. I hold option and drag on top of the solid layer and it is swapped in the timeline. However, it gets placed at the very end of the comp as a single-frame snippet on the 6f mark, rather than at the beginning for the full duration of the video [2]. If I try to drag my video to the beginning of the timeline with my cursor, the track doesn't budge. Any idea why I might be experiencing these issues?

Did you not time-reverse the layers yourself? How did they get like this if you didn't do it?
You time-reverse a layer using the menu command Layer > Time > Time-reverse Layer.

New Adjustment layer vs. new solid and turn on adj icon

Hello All,
Is it safe to say that an Adjustment layer is just a solid layer named Adjustment Layer with the black and white adjustment icon activated and that defaults to a Solid Setting that is comp size and white in color.

That's close. Any layer can be turned into an adjustment layer, not just a a solid-color layer. When you create a new adjustment layer with the Layer > New > Adjustment Layer command, it creates a regular white solid-color layer as you describe and then turns the Adjustment Layer switch on for that layer.

3D solid warps on oddly on a Z rotation

I've browsed the internet looking for an answer to this peculier problem which is: Whenever I convert a flat solid layer to a 3D object and then try to rotate it on the Z axis, it begins to stretch the object on the X axis. When I return back for a full 180 degree turn, it returns to it's normal size and ratio.
I have found other people with this problem, but I haven't found a clear solution on how to fix it.
Help would be appreicated.
I'm using CS6 on Adobe Creative Cloud and I'm running on Windows Seven.

Theck the PIXEL ASPECT RATIO of your footage, comps, and any nested comps. They all need to be square: a pixel aspect ratio of 1.
