3D standard shape in CS6

In Photoshop CS5 I created from a rectangle an tin can, that was nice.
When I use the same (.psd) file and the same standard 3D shape (tin can) I get a total different result.
What did Adobe changes with this option in Photoshop CS6?
And how I can get the same result as I got in CS5?

Some of Photoshop's 3D object presets are utter garbage, frankly. Some have good UV mapping but poor geometry, others have good geometry but terrible UV mapping, and the meshes and their problems differ between CS5 and CS6. There's clearly considerable incompetence in the team developing 3D for Photoshop because there's no excuse for a professional making a mess of anything as basic as these simple model presets.
Since you are happy with the CS5 Soda model, copy its DAE file from the CS5 installation to the CS6 installation and use that instead. It'll need rotated about X axis by 90 degrees when imported to a CS6 document, though.
The CS6 Soda model can be made usable by rotating the label texture by 90 degrees clockwise and adjusting the UV scaling and offset in the material, as shown below.

  • How can I deploy a standardized set of CS6 extensions to all users?

    Is there a single file or set of files I can distribute to all users which will give them a standardized set of CS6 extensions?  I have over 100 users using InCopy CS6 and InDesign CS6 and want to make sure they all have the same extension configuration.

    Perhaps I should have explained myself more clearly.  I want to be able to define an extension set (with a mix of Adobe and 3rd party extensions) and distribute that set to all of my users - without them having to take any steps to import the set, make it active, etc.  I'd like to be able to just have them log in and have the extension set I have distributed to them.  I've tried exporting a set, distributing it to a test workstation, then importing it via a script (as defined in "Adobe Extension Manager help and tutorials") but the import step doesn't seem to work.  No error, it just doesn't import the set.
    So I was wondering - can I package up my extension manager files ("/Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Extension Manager CS6" and "/Users/<username>/Library/Preferences/Adobe.ExMan") and deploy those to users?
    I am looking for a solution that will allow me to deliver the extension set I define to over 100 users without user interaction.  Is there a way?

  • How do I get a photo inside a custom shape in CS6

    How do I get a photo inside a custom shape in CS6...

    Also, in Sharon's method - "simply press delete" on a regular jpg picture will bring up the Fill Dialog in CS6, with Content Aware being default. Not what you you want here.
    If the OP wants to use a selection as a "custom shape", then creating a mask by clicking on the Add a Mask icon at the bottom of Layer panel (third in from left) is preferable to inverting the selection and deleting pixels.

  • How could I update from photoshop cs6 standard to photoshop cs6 extended?

    Hello,
    I'd like to update my photoshop cs6 standard to photoshop cs6 extended to work with the 3d features. I've looked on adobe's website but I can only buy the update from photoshop cs5 standard and not cs6. Is there any solution?
    Thanks, regards

    CS6 cannot be upgraded.  If you join the Creative Cloud and download PhotoshopCC2014 you get it with the 3D features.

  • Fill Color Changes When I Paste a Shape, Flash CS6

    Whenever I paste, or paste in place, a shape (this does not happen with strokes), the fill color I currently have selected will change to match the color of what I've just pasted. If I paste something with multiple colors, it randomly chooses one of those colors to switch to. I've tried running searches online for what this phenomenon is, or how to change it, but I've come up with nothing. I'm using a mac, but a friend uses Flash CS6 on her windows machine, and it does the same thing. This doesn't happen in CS4.
    Is there a workaround? Or is this an annoying new feature I just have to live with?

    I can only verify what you see and explain the behavior but I do not believe there is any way to alter that behavior. When the new object is added to the stage (via paste) Flash makes sure to select it and it's unavoidable (and desired behavior) that it would trigger the contextual (color) panels with the correct information for the current selection. This appears to be a bug in that regard.
    You can always report it in a bug submission, I think the behavior is a clear bug and it should be easy to fix. It affects CS6 which is still a current product (due to AS2.0 support mostly), and CC, so it's important. Good find!

  • Cutting out shapes AE CS6

    This will seem pretty basic but pls help a newbie learner!
    I've created a logo using type and a shape (put simply).  Ive transofmed the type to my satisfaction and created the shape that is to be added BUT its in a different composition and its in line form on a white ground - i need it cut out/masked so that it works like the type does ie like a letter that can be scaled, transformed etc so it eventually looks just like one of the letters.  Adding the rendered shape as a layer just plonks a white square onto the type and masking it just masks the white square not the graphic.  How do i cut it out pease?

    Every new user wants to have fun with AE right away, but please, please, PLEASE don't try jumping into the deep end of the pool.  You'll only end up frustrated because you need a LOT of basic AE knowledge to use it properly.
    So do like every AE user has to do.  Start with the basics:

  • Why does the knife tool leave gaps in the shape? (CS6)

    When I use the knife tool on an shapeit leaves a gap where I slice. First I thought it was just an illusion in the program but it stays even after I've exported the image (both by "save as" in illustrator and "export" in inDesign). I've been careful not to move the shapeafter I used the tool so I don't think that should be a reason.
    I've tried on different types of shapes like normal circles and more complex shapes. I've also attempted to start a new file from scratch but with the same result  What could the reason be? Is there a setting I should be aware of?
    This is what I see in Illustrator:
    And this is what the image looks like when saved as pdf (in illustrator):
    It also looks the same if I place it in inDesign and then export to pdf.
    EDIT: I don't know if it is important but the size of the shape is about an A4 or there about.
    Best regards,
    SirSkorpan

    Thank you for your reply, I still have a slight problem though,
    Turning off anti-aliasing in illustrator did take away the gap when viewing the artwork in illustrator, but as soon as I export it through inDesign or use "save as" to make a pdf the gap is back. Is there an option to turn off anti-aliasing when exporting a document?
    This is what I see when zooming in max (6400%) in acrobat reader:
    When u say it's a screen issue do u mean that the gap won't show when printed? The problem is that I'm doing artwork that will be shown digital as well. Is there a way to get rid of this?
    Thanks again for taking your time.
    Best regards,

  • PS CS4 Extended: Default texture aspect ratio on standard shapes

    Hi,
    I want to design a cover for the default soft drink can 3D model. I create a 3D layer from a 2D standard layer. However I cannot find out the aspect ratio for the standard texture applied to the can's surface in order to be able to produce a cover without any distortions. Where can I find this information OR the default textures?
    Thanks. I am desperate finding an answer... :(

    The distortion information should come from whomever is in charge of printing the cans.

  • Include configurator in standard installation in cs6

    If various articles on the web are correct, Configurator 2 will be available for CS5 (and that’s already a load off my mind), but I’d like to see it become part of the standard installation as I’m afraid many users simply won’t make the effort to download and install it otherwise.

    Couldn't agree more.  Perhaps we'll also have more Panel offerings from the community if the app is already installed.

  • I cannot wrap around object shape in CS6. The object is a circle.

    I have made a circle in inDesign CS6 and need to wrap around the circle.  But "wrap around an object" treats it like a boundary box.  What is the problem?

    Try restarting ID and start a new document. Draw a text frame, fill it with placeholder text. Draw a circle. Click the wrap button indicated in the screen shot. Does it now work?
    You may need to reset your preferences.

    If that fixes it for new documents but not your working document, it may be corrupted.

  • Path/Shape tool and Hand tool are awful in CS6.

    We recently upgraded to CC at work and I do love the idea. Hypothetically, what could be better? Sadly, CC comes with CS6 which doesn't shine so well. Photoshop in particularl is hindering me and slowing down my productivity. Therefore I am sharing my thoughts and hoping something will get done.
    Paths/Shapes in CS6 are absolute trash. As an illustrator, I use these tools frequently on a daily basis. It used to be rapid and easy. Now, when I undo more than one stage I have to reselect the path, so that's +1 click per mistake.
    I used to love the expanded pathfinder view, of the shapes/pen tool. Now it's contained in a drop-down which feels very dumbed-down and is +1 click EVERY time I need to use something in there. REALLY AWKWARD and a complete pain to use. Especially if I select the wrong draw mode. Why is there not even the option to use the old expanded view, or a PATHFINDER PANEL added to Photoshop for 'traditional' users/illustrators?
    Seeing as that hasn't changed for as long as I can remember... I imagine that it is annoying a lot of people. I don't know how you thought it would be good to change that outright without even phasing it out gradually or offering the original view as well. Terrible. Don't even dare tell me to draw my paths in illustrator. Worse still, the infinitely useless marquee tool keeps the original expanded view! So it's not even like it couldn't have been done. Just. Annoying.
    Also the Hand tool is a right pain. Are you seriously telling me I can't scrub freely? Outside of the 'frame'?? That's retarded. Even if an imported layer is larger than my document bounds and the 'frame' I still can't even scrub outside of it?
    I've been a loyal user of photoshop for over 10 years and this is the worst update I've seen in all that time. There are great things happening, with the content aware stuff and better GL processing etc etc. Sadly, tried and tested features are being wiped out as you try and turn photoshop into one giant DESIGN button.
    Sorry for the massive rant. I had real high hopes for CS6 and to be honest, I'm moderately disappointed.
    I couldn't figure out where on earth to post this as I couldn't find a feedback button in photoshop. Which may also be a great idea to consider.

    Apologies for the triple post but this is still frustrating me.
    I don't understand why Adobe would do something that slows down long-term Photoshop users so much!
    When I am on the path selection tool, the little check mark to deselect all paths is gone. Why? It was one tiny button that didn't even add clutter and was impecably useful.
    Now, if I'm trying to add to my path or subtract from a path, the minute I switch my pen to this mode, the whole shape layer abides by that rule. So my existing path is inverted if I select subtract, etc.
    Why does the pen tool now control paths in the same way as the path selection tool? I thought that was the ENTIRE POINT of the path selection tool. For selecting and modifying a paths properties. Any modifiers applied to the pen should be strictly for once you draw with the pen? Again. More clicks, more undos and more workarounds to figure out. All of which seem much slower and more convoluted than every previous version of the CS.
    Also, where have the transform controls gone from the path selection tool? Once again, another click. Right click > free transform. Who thought that would be smart? Works for some but not me for a second.
    These bulky, childish cursors are annoying some of my colleagues too. Even precise cursors are now massive. Where have sleek, 1px thick cursors gone? Why have we got these chunky horible things that look like they're from the Sims or something?? I'm not playing a videogame. I'm working. I feel like a school child with these hilariously over-sized pointers.
    It's not even like a fix for these issues is needed. Simply revert back to the method which was practical and useful? With some of the new additions like the rubber band and illustrator style-stroke... All great stuff, if applied to the *real* path tool. Not this lame excuse of one. Why did you got screwing with what WAS one of the most versatile tools in photoshop? I can only hope this is the first stage of a major upgrade in this tool.

  • How can I feather the vector mask (path) of a shape layer in CS6?

    How can I feather the vector mask, i.e. path of a shape layer in CS6?
    The corresponding slider in the properties pallette is alway grayed out and unmovable for me when dealing with shape layers. Is there a trick to it, or ist it really not possible at all? (In CS5 you can feather any vector mask via the mask pallette, although the mask's behavior is most of the times quiet buggy after doing so.)
    Or is there any other way to non-destructably blur a shape in CS6? (I know I can create a smart object and use a blur filter on it, but that's not really what i'm after.)
    Thanks in advance for any help on this.
    Reiz

    Start from the beginning
    - Select the Rectangle Tool - go to Options Bar, ensure 'Shape' options is on from the the Pick a Tool Mode drop down list.
    - Draw Rect. This should create a vector Shape Layer.
    - Select it in the Layers Panel: The Properties Panel then should highlight the Density and Feather options.
    What happens here when you drag the Feather slider? On my end it feathers the vector shape as a whole.
    If you need further masking capabilities, then apply a Layer Mask to the Shape and proceed with the Properties Panel Density/Feather options.

  • Shape thumbnails in CS6

    Is there any way to get the same looking thumbnails for shapes in CS6 ?
    With previous versions I could get the position of the shape just by looking at the thumbnail in the layers palette but now they are only generic icons, I have tried to resize them and set panel options ( Thumbnails contents) but without any luck.
    It's really a problem if they are many shapes in the document.
    Thanks

    With the way CS6 displays Shape layers if you target the shape layer and do a ctrl+t  or menu item Edit>Free Transform you get the interactive Free transform bounds you want.  If you want an interactive transform in you script I would think you could use the scriptlistner code generated for the Ctrl+T step.   If you just want to resize the shape some percentage I would think  making the shape layer the active layer and getting the active layer bounds that you could resize the layer some percentage. Being  its a shape layer Photoshop might do the resize using vector.
    I don't know why the old look in the layers palette is so important to you when with the new look Ctrl+T gives you the transform bounding box you want in the image window|tab.
    This script seems to resized my shape layer  to 50%  each time I run it.
    var startRulerUnits = preferences.rulerUnits;
    preferences.rulerUnits = Units.PIXELS;
    var LB = activeDocument.activeLayer.bounds;
    var LWidth = (LB[2].value) - (LB[0].value);
    var LHeight = (LB[3].value) - (LB[1].value);
    alert("width = " + LWidth + " pixels Height = " + LHeight + " pixels");
    var percentageChange = 50;
    activeDocument.activeLayer.resize(percentageChange,percentageChange);
    preferences.rulerUnits = startRulerUnits;
