3D TV 42TL515U

1. TV built in media player only plays flash drive and not USB connected external hard drive.  Need firmware upgrade?
2. Guide button on remote has no effect, software version 2.2.2 OCT. 26 2011 installed.
3. How to program universal remote CT-90367 for BD/DVD, AUX?
Tom

What file format is the hard drive using?
The guide button never responds at all?
To program the remote, look up the remote code for your device on page 91. Let's say you're trying to program it to control a Mitsubishi Blu-ray player. There are two codes listed, so we'd start with the first one - 1034.
Press the mode select button (for example, BD/DVD). The button should now blink three times. Then, while holding down "INFO," input the four-digit code. In this example, that would 1034. If it blinks twice, the code was valid. Next you test the remote by pointing it at the device and pressing the power button. If it doesn't work, you go back to the table on page 91 and try the next code.
The green button on the remote will cycle through upper-case letters, lower-case letters, numbers, and symbols.

Any help regarding this information is appreciated.

But what is the way to connect this thing now ?
I haave been searchine online -- dont seem to find the cable anywhere.

  • 3D TV 42TL515U Remote becomes unresponsive and TV crashes while watching Netflix

Back in March I ordered a brand-new in-the-box 3D TV 42TL515U TV. The TV has been running great except starting last weekend (Oct. 7th)
I noticed the remote become completely unresponsive to the TV except if I held in the power button.
The remote would work fine when the TV was turned off and turned back on for about 10 minutes and then become unresponsive.
Changing the batteries in the remote had zero effect to correct this issue.
While I was trying to watch Netflix, the TV would crash and shut off and turn back on every 12 minutes (I timed it).
I get this issue when the TV is either hard-wired or wirelessly connected to my network.
    I have the lasted TV patch/software version 2.2.2 Oct 26 2011 - 11:34
What can I do to get my TV functiong properly again?

I don't understand why we have to call "customer support" when this isn't an individual issue, its a universal one that needs to be addressed with a firmware update.
This is just awful on Toshiba's part that they can't even push out fixes for issues like this. It's not like we're asking for new content or updated codecs' to play more file types... THIS IS ABOUT COMMON FUNCTIONALITY.
And what's more convenient, Toshiba offers no online chat or even a support email. Awesome job!

  • 42tl515u Netflix won't load videos.

    Dear Toshiba TV Forum,
My 42tl515u will not load videos to play instantly from Netflix. I activate the device, and it comes to the screen with all of my correct preferences and recently watched shows. I know it is communicating with netflix. When I select a show to watch, the loading screen displays. After a short time, I get the message "We're having trouble playing this title right now. Please try back later or pick a different title." It does this for every title I try. I can rent movies through Vudu and I watch them at HDX settings flawlessly. I doubt it is a connection issue, and since netflix connects, I doubt it is a server rule blocking a port. However, despite having looked for a solution for weeks to this problem and finding no one else experiencing this difficulty, I figured it is unique. I have exhausted every other avenue, and I have to ask for direct help. Please fix this problem. I have confidence this is an anomaly for Toshiba, but I want it corrected.
    Best,
    Chris

I'm having a similar problem.  Here's what happens when I attempt to stream from Netflix:
    1) I push Netflix button on the remote;
    2) TV asks if you're a current Netflix member - I say Yes;
    3) the TV then says, "To have movies streamed instantly from Netflix...
Go to your computer and connect your device to your Netflix acount.
              1. Visit netflix.com/activate
              2. Enter this code: ----- (the TV will provide a 4 or 5 digit alphnumeric code)"
    4) On the Netflix website, I go to "Activate Your Device" and it says, "Follow the instructions on your device to get an activation code."
    5) I input the code provided by the TV
    6) Netflix processes the code and says "Activation is complete
You are ready to watch instantly.  Go check it out now!"
    7) As soon as I get the "Activation is complete" message from Netflix, the TV says "Your activation code has expired. Not a problem - just 'Get a new code.'"
    8) You can then either "Get a new code" or "Exit".
    9) If you get a new code, the exact same process plays out.
I've tried this over a dozen times and the same thing keeps happening.  I clearly have online access through the TV (e.g. I can use the Yahoo widgets).  And the TV and Netflix website appear to be communicating with each other.  However, there's a definite glitch in the Netflix app on the TV.
Any suggestions?  Anyone else having the same problem?  Is there a firmware update in the works to fix this problem?  I like the TV and have enjoyed it in the short time I've owned it, but I will have to return it if Netflix is not accessible.

  • 42TL515U HDMI Broke

I have a 42TL515U. Everything works on the TV except HDMI ports. 2 Direct TV boxes, PS3 and XBOX 1 do not work on it. The TV does turn itself off randomly but turns itself back on. It started after an thunderstorm but TV and remaining appliances(PS3/Cablebox) still worked.
The HDMI port has worked once since I tried it again. Did factory reset, unplugged tv for 30 min and plugged Direct TV into it and it worked. Was so excited unplugged direct tv and plugged in XBOX one and its broke again. If all inputs are attached to same board I dont get how all HDMI ports dont work. Should I replace board? If so which one.

I have called and the tech support was horrible. The guy was nice add all but treated me like I was an 80 yr old woman and had no clue what I was doing. Really wish I could have received an answer on why would HDMI just not work if all the additional ports share circuit board. TV's are cheap now, not sure if buying new board would fix it or just buy a new TV. Sucks because its a Smart/3D TV :-/

  • TOSHIBA 42TL515U 3D Flickering sometimes, is it normal?

    Hello.
Last week i bought this Tv. I love it! The 3D is spectacular with no ghosting, no crosstalking, it's quite impresive! But i only have one problem with the Tv, which i don't know if it's normal or not. I have the antena connected through video input. And my PS3 on HDMI. Sometimes in both the image turns black for a fragment of a second. Today i noticed that the TV did it more time on the antena, like 3 very quick flickering.
When i bought it i updated it, so i don't know if it's an update issue or something, hope someone could help me here, because i really like this Tv a lot! and that's the only thing i can find a little annoying, but most of all, worrying if the TV can break in a future because of that issue.
Does anyone has experineced this? is there something can be done?
    Thank you.

Thanks again for your replies, xwrestling and Peter,
I think both things are right. I tried what you told me xwrestling, the cable. I had an HDMI brand Sony, that i used for my old Bravia TV and the PS3. It was a High Speed HDMI cable. Never had issues with it, but now with the Toshiba TV, for example when i was moving the image adjustments the TV flickered always when moving the adjustments, i thought that was normal so i didn't commented that. So i owned a Bronzed thing HDMI cable for another TV, so i changed it today i made some tests. With this cable, when moving the adjustments, the TV didn't blink. So i played PS3 for some time today, didn't noticed any flickering or something wrong, so definately it must have been the other cable, i'll try to connect the TV satelite signal with another cable.
Also for the TV signal, i turned off the dynamic features, didn't noticed weird things after that, so i hope it stays this way. I could try with a pause dvd/bluray but the problem was so random and it could happen after 1 hour or so after turning the TV on. But i hope that with the other adjustmens now is fine the problem.
    Thank you both.

  • 42TL515U blacks out when changing channels in different formats

This television is getting annoying. Unlike our previous television, a Samsung, whenever I switch from a program from a non HD channel stored on the DVR to a live HD broadcast the Toshiba frequently seems to "get confused" with the format switch and the screen goes black. Sometimes I have to reboot by turning it off and on and then wait 40 seconds for it to power on and go to the HD station. This was an expensive purchase - at least for our budget - but I am very disappointed. In retrospect, I probably should have bought another Samsung or the Vizio.
    John

Usually, you can turn off a video setting and it speeds up the responce time of the set top box. Try hitting menu - settings - video settings - sd override and selecting off. There are other settings in there but they dont seem to affect the responce time much.

  • Set picture size & use external speakers 42TL515U

I can change the picture size but it does not hold. I want to set the size and have it remain that size. When I change channels and return it goes back to 4.3. It is a non HDTV channel.
Can I hook up a pair of external speakers powered by the TV? I have an Onkyo receiver but I want to power two of those speakers by the TV when I'm not using the receiver. I don't know if both can be connected or how to set that up. The receiver will be off but both connected may be an issue. The TV speakers are a bit weak.
    Thanks

Thanks, it appears the auto aspect needs to be left on for 16:9 and the 4:3 stretch needs to be turned on as well for standard def stations. It might solve my problem if the 4:3 stretch is a good viewing mode. Theater 1 is what I prefer, is a way to retain that setting?
To bad about not powering external speakers, the std speakers really lack.

  • Need help with Toshiba model 42TL515U TV FAN

I recently had an error message pop up on the tv that says the tv fan went out. The tv has worked perfectly since i purchased it untill now. I'm very unhappy about it since i have taken great care of it the entire time and it is not my fault but toshibas for selling me the tv with a faulty internal fan and OF COURSE it tells me fan went out after my warranty just ended. I need help, answers and customer support because this is rediculous...

If there truly is a fan in the TL515U you can easily open up the TV, look at the fan specs, and replace it.
I bet the fan used in it are the ones used in computers.

  • 42TL515U very slow to power up

The set is connected via HDMI to a dvd recorder and a Comcast Motorola DVR. The way this system is connected, the Toshiba remote turns on and off all the components take a lot of time to come on. Is there a way to take power up controls away from the Toshiba remote?
    Thanks, John

Now, when I switch from the dvr playback of a recoded program, the TV will shut down and I have to restart everythng.

  • 42TL515U wireless headphone or 2.1 pc speakers

    Hi,
I am wondering how to setup the connections so that i could get either a pair of headphones or external speakers working with the TV. If someone could guide me how to do it, that would be awesome.

  • Picture setting on netflix or other apps.

So I got the 42TL515U TV yesterday and have been liking it so far, but one of the things that I am having problems with is changing the picture setting while I am using netflix. I can pull up the menu settings when I am on cable, composite, or HDMI inputs, but once I go to use internet apps I can't pull up the menu settings, I push the menu button and on the bottom left screen it says "Not Available". I want to be able to change the picture setting when watching netflix because the stock settings make the picture look very dark. I've searched online and even talked to a Toshiba customer support and both are no help. So I am wondering if anybody else has this problem, or if someone can direct me on how to change the settings that would be great.

Hello I have a new Toshiba 46SL417U - 46" class 1080p 120Hz LED TV and have the same problem at the beggining but look in your remote for the "QUICK" button. On my remote is located next to the "MUTE" and "CH RTN" buttons, above the red "NETFLIX" button. Pretty sure is the same remote and you be able to change picture and sound from there.
I add a picture of the remote here to show you this...
    Have a good movie

I was able to get it working today after removing the other Items plugged into the other HDMI ports
There is a mention in the TV manual there might be a problem with a lot of devices  using the hdmi ports.
Thanks for the responce. The control feature does not work I think it is called CEG
Bit I don't really care about that for the most part.
