3g (3.1) Will not boot past the apple screen

I have been having the random shut off issue intermittently for a while now. I woke up Wed morning and my phone worked fine. I checked it 20 minutes later and the screen was black. Completely unresponsive.
I plugged the phone into the wall and thought all was fine as I saw the apple appear when I pressed the sleep/wake button, but the phone shuts off. The phone will continuously show the apple on bootup and then shut off when I press the sleep/wake button. I booted the phone and managed to get the "connect to itunes" to display, but the second I disconnect from the power source again the phone shuts off.
The phone is completely unresponsive when plugged in via usb. I have tried multiple computer and different cables.
I have tried, resetting, hard resetting, DFU mode and nothing works. My phone is out of warranty and I am running out of options outside of having the unit replaced.
Can anybody shed some light on this issue? It would be much appreciated.

Hi,
Try leaving the iPhone directly connected to a high-speed USB2 port the computer, using the cable that came with it, for 5 minutes. Then try to restore the iPhone from recovery mode as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
If that doesn't resolve the issue, the iphone will need service. This webpage: apple.com/support/iphone/service/faq/ provides answers to Frequently Asked Questions about iPhone service.

I have tried resetting PRAM and all other items listed in the Apple support site. This happened after an update to iTunes was added. Also this is happening to other people. Please help.

  • B/W G3 will not boot past the startup screen

It boots all the way through to the last step - "Login Window Startup". It will not boot in Safe Mode, PRAM reset, etc. No Joy. It has sat and spun the colored wheel of death for hours.
    Any suggestions?

Boot from the Install CD by holding down the C key at startup. Do not install or even choose a language. Choose Disk Utility from the Installer Menu. Select your Hard drive and click "Repair". If anything is fixed, rerun again until it has no errors. Then run "Repair Permissions" once. Its many messages can generally be ignored.
If it will not chime a second or third or fourth time in response to the
    Command Option p r
keys held down at startup, anecdote says that the PRAM battery is likely to be dead.

  • HT1688 My phone is turning on but will not load past the apple screen

help with my iphone 4 ive tried everything i know

Reset, hold both the home and power buttons until the iPhone restarts again, usually takes about 10 seconds of holding both buttons. If still problem, you may need to Restore the Firmware of your iPhone. If you decide to do this, try DFU Mode Restore. Steps for DFU Mode are, open iTunes on computer, connect iPhone to computer with USB Cable. Hold both Home and Power Buttons for exactly 10 seconds, release the Power button, keep holding the Home button until iTunes recognizes iPhone in Recovery Mode, usually about 20 seconds of holding Home button. If the iPhone screen is black, blank this is DFU Mode. Click the Restore button of iTunes. If Restoring iPhone Firmware fails, and you have Warranty or AppleCare make Genius reservation and take iPhone to Apple for resolution.

  • My iMac will not boot past the logo and spinning gear

My iMac will not boot past the logo and spinning gear (After a Rogue Amoeba update). I can't access the recovery disk I made on a flash drive. (Am I doing it correctly? - Hold down option while switching on? It just stays on the logo). What (if anything) can I do please?

If you installed Lion onto your machine, it should have created a Recovery HD (hidden from view, but visible in Disk Utility with its Debug menu enabled, under Show all Partitions).
    That article states:
Note: In order to create an external Lion Recovery using the Lion Recovery Assistant, the Mac must have an existing Recovery HD.
Would I see the recovery menu (by holding down option on power up)
    Yes.
if there was no recovery disc connected do you think?
Shouldn't matter, since your int HD is always connected.

  • I have a Macbook and I left it unplugged. It started up slowly when I plugged it in again, but it seemed fine. Once it started charging I shut it down so it would be easier, but now it will not go past the grey screen with the apple. What do I do?

I have a Macbook and I left it unplugged. It started up slowly when I plugged it in again, but it seemed fine. Once it started charging I shut it down so it would be easier, but now it will not go past the grey screen with the apple. What do I do?
I have Snow leopard on my computer, and I tried to do a hard restart as an article suggested, but it did not work. I also tried cleaning out the PRAM.
The only things I did last night:
-cleaned the history of Firefox out, including cookies
    -let it unplugged all night
-plugged it back in the morning, it took a long time to figure itself out, but eventually the time was correct and I got on the internet for a bit
-shutdown the computer since I was going out and thought it would help the computer charge
-came back, tried to turn it on, and found that it would not go past the grey screen the apple on it and the spinning wheel even though I left it for 20 minutes or more
-tried turning it off and on to no avail

Before doing a reinstall, which may not be needed at this point,
Try using Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair, as shown in this link, while booted up on your install disk.
You could have some directory corruption. Let us know what errors Disk Repair reports and if DU was able to repair them. This could just be a start in repairs and you may need a better utility to finish the job.
    Then Repair Permissions.
No need to report any Permissions errors........we all get them.

  • Ibookg4 will not go past the grey screen and will not accept a disc

my ibook will not go past the grey screen and will not accept a disc

Have you tried starting up in Safe Mode? If not, I suggest that you give it a try. This will take quite awhile longer than a normal startup because it does a file check and repair of the hard disk.
If this works you will see your normal desktop. Once completely started up in Safe Mode, try to restart normally, and go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility. Click on the top hard drive icon in the left sidebar and note the S.M.A.R.T. status at the bottom right of the pane. What does it say?
Select the named boot volume in the left sidebar, ("Macintosh HD" unless you've renamed it). What is the hard drive capacity and how much space remains available on it? Repair permissions on it.
See if you are able to do a little hard drive maintenance to help things out.

  • Satellite L500 will not load past the 'welcome' screen

    Hi,
My Toshiba Satellite L500 laptop will not load past the 'welcome' screen. The cursor thing just keeps going around and around but won't go to my desktop.
Last night it went into some temporary profile and it had a message saying 'your other profile cannot load at this time please try again later'
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Kara

The error message is not known to me and also searching in google didnt get any hints.
Possibly your Windows OS is muddled up.
Did you try to boot Win 7 in safe mode?
Try this. Restart your notebook, tap the F8 key.
In advanced boot options choose the option called Safe Mode.
If the notebook does not allow booting in Safe Mode, try the option Last Good Known Configuration.
If this didnt help, try Repair my Computer. Here you can choose between different settings.
The one which could solve this is HDD recovery which helps you to set the notebook to factory settings. But this means also that your HDD would be formatted!
    So be aware of this!

  • My 4th Gen Ipod touch will not get past the apple logo

My 4th Gen Ipod touch will not get past the apple logo (unless the battery is dead, Then it tell me to charge it).  Once it gave me the connect to itunes screen.  I clicked restore in itunes but the ipod went back to the apple logo before the update download finished. I tried calling apple but my over the phone technical support just expired. PLEASE HELP!

This can be a corrupted software/firmware on your iPod touch. If the recovery mode you did was not forced, then try to force it into recovery mode. This is how:
    1. Force it to shut down (note: this sort of shut down should not be preformed unless you are in a situation like this because it is a hardware shutdown and will not attempt to unload software, save unsaved files, safely stop system processes, etc.) to do this, hold down the power/sleep button and home button for about 7 or 10 secs. Also I might be incorrect but I heard that you can just hold down the sleep and home button until the screen goes blank and then immediately let go.
    2. Have iTunes running. Hold down the home button and plug the USB cable that came with your iPod into it. Keep on holding on the home button until a picture of a USB cable going into the iTunes logo appears. You are now in a forced recovery mode. (In case your not so tech-savvy forced recovery is the same as a normal recovery mode that an iPod might do if it knows an update or restore failed.)
    3. iTunes should have shown a pop-up message about it found a iPod in recovery mode. Click OK, click your iPod from the sidebar and click restore. The iPod will show the apple logo for a while and iTunes will say "preparing iPod for restore" and then "waiting for iPod" this was the longest part of updates for me.
    4. iPod will reboot when restore is completed. When I update my iPod it one time showed the apple logo for one whole sync until it showed the slide to unlock screen, so do not worry. P.S if that does not work do a DFU mode restore ( I've been told DFU mode stands for device firmware update mode) I'm running out of room, so google it. Hope this helped ;)

  • My iMac will not boot into the Apple Hard Ware test. Why is this?

I have a late 2012 27 inch iMac. It will not boot into the Apple Hard Ware test. I do have File Vault turned on. Will this stop it from booting in to the test?

See Using Apple Hardware Test. For some Apple computers that shipped with OS X Lion, if Apple Hardware Test cannot be found on the hard drive, an Internet-based version starts up instead. An Internet-enabled connection via ethernet or Wi-Fi is required to use this feature. Some computers that shipped with Lion require a software update to use this feature. See Computers that can be upgraded to use OS X Internet Recovery for more information.
Note: your machine cannot be running Mac OS X (10.6.7).

  • The dowload of firfox will not move past the run screen

I have been trying to install Firefox to my desktop. The dowload will not progress past the run screen. There is no set up. I successfully installed on my second computer so I am confused.

I believe you have Voice Over on:
You have to tap, then double-tap to select the numbers to enter your passcode.
    Then:
    Press Home.
    Tap Settings. Then double-tap Settings.
    Tap General. Then double-tap General.
Use three fingers on the screen to scroll to Accessibility.
    Tap Accessibility. Then double-tap Accessibility.
    Tap VoiceOver. Then double-tap VoiceOver.
Tap "On" next to VoiceOver. Then double-tap "On" to turn it off.

  • Ipod will not got past the home screen

Help please!!!! When I turn my ipod on, (with a full charge and fresh restore and update) it will not go past the home screen (music, setting, ect). The hold button is off. The click wheel will move the selector up and down, but I can't go any further than that.

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here. You WILL lose your "stuff" with Recovery Mode.
