3g 40GB iPod "select" touch button acting as "play" & "Select"

My 3rd gen iPod's "select" touch button is acting like Play + Select at the same time. So as soon as I select "music" on the main menu, the entire contents of the iPod queue up to play. It just started happening not to long ago and I thought cleaning it would help but it didn't. I did a search and plowed through tons of threads about the other touch buttons malfunctioning but nothing of this nature. Has anyone else come across this problem - possible solutions?? Thanks.

On my PC, in I-Tunes, the iPod (touch) button disappears every time I try to sync or update.  Everything has been rebooted, but no changes. Any ideas on how to sync to the IPod?  Better yet, how to keep the ipod button on screen when itunes is open and the ipod is connected?

    - Have you tried another USB port and cable?
    - Inspect the dock connector for bend or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.

  • What's wrong with my iPod Touch? (Touches buttons by it's self)

A friend gave me this iPod touch 3g with a minor crack in the screen (nothing major). Everything was fine and dandy until I downloaded two apps (Mangastorm and mangabox). Now, my iPod touches buttons by itself. For example I'd hover my hand over a button and it'll hit the key next to what I intended on pressing and so many other random buttons. Please help me on how to fix this issue?

    - What happens when you turn the iPod back on?
    - For a 1G and 2G Pod, erasing all contents and settings can take hours and you need to have it connected to a chargings source.
    - You may have to place the iPod in recovery mode and then retore via iTunes.  For recoverymode:

I had my Ipod nano 7th Gen factory restored. Nano touch works smooth without any song in-it but after i have any of the songs shifted from itunes, touch buttons get messed up. They don't work. Help me in over coming this issue.

    Hello Rohantm,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with your iPod nano (7th generation) touch screen.  I recommend the following steps for the issue you described (you can skip the steps you have already tried):
Touch screen does not accept input
Clean the screen with a microfiber polishing cloth.
Do not wear gloves while using the touchscreen. Do not use the touchscreen with wet hands or immediately after applying hand lotion. Moisture affects touchscreen behavior in the same manner as it affects a trackpad.
If you have a protective plastic sheet or film on the touchscreen, try removing it, because it may be preventing the touchscreen from working properly.
The current application may be unresponsive; try resetting iPod by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button and the Home buttons simultaneously for a least six seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
Sync with iTunes and restore the iPod.
    Issue not resolved
If the issue is still not resolved, please read this information on servicing your iPod.

  • RED IPOD CHROMATIC 8GB BUTTONS FAIL TO WORK

    Okay so, to my recollection:
1.I added a podcast to the iPod
2.I clicked the eject button on itunes after the little circle thing had 3.finished spinning and my ipod disapears from the itunes menu
4.I look at my iPod - it still says "synchronizing - do not disconnect"
5.The buttons on my iPod fail to work
6.I plug my iPod into speaker dock, and am able to use all the buttons including the click wheel to turn up the volume.
7.I take the ipod out - the buttons stop working again.
8.I return to my iPod a day later, and try to plug it into the speakers - now the buttons are either not working altogether or acting up (if I press >> to skip a song, it instead fast forwards the song)
9.I've reset the iPod several times (Menu & Select) and nothing is working
p.s. my computer still recognises the iPod on itunes!
Has anyone else experienced this? Really annoyed..this iPod was brand new at christmas. It is my 2nd ipod, my first one had the 'dreaded white screen'.
Do iPods have built in obsolescence?

I unfortunately have to join the group. This just happened to me 4 hours ago and I have had no luck at getting any reaction out of my laptop or the ipod. Do any of the IT people for Apple or any of the programers not have any suggestions?!

  • 40GB IPOD Automobile Compatibility

Is the original 40GB IPod compatible with car stero connections?  Specifically Honda systems?

The original 40GB iPod is the 3rd gen model, which was even before iPods had the click wheel.  It had a touch wheel and separate "touch buttons" (that glowed orange) for the playback controls.  Is that the one you have?
If so, and you are asking if that iPod will interact properly with car audio systems, probably not.  That's the first one with a Dock Connector.  I have one (3rd gen iPod), and it does not fully work with an old (interactive) desktop docking station accessory, although the 4th gen iPod works with it.
But it really depends on the car audio system.  A really old system that was produced at about the same time as a really old iPod has a better chance of working.  If it's a brand new system, it is much less likely to work with an older model iPod.
You should find the official specifications, to see what iPod models are supported.

  • My ipod touch will not stop playing music

My ipod touch will not stop playing music. I will pause the music, leave the playlist, and after 30-60 seconds, the music starts playing again. I use my ipod when I run and when I drive (hook it up to the stereo). It is very annoying when I stop to take a phone call or listen to directions, turn off my music, and then hardly a minute into my stop, the music starts right back up again.

  • My ipod touch 4th generation wont play music

My ipod touch 4th generation wont play music. I hit the play button and it turns into a pause button but the music does not play and the song length thing stays at 0:00. It is brand new and has not been damaged. No songs are greyed out. Certain songs play but most dont. Please help.

I have same issue with iPad3.  all songs play great, both songs I have downloaded and ones on iPad, except 2 albums by same artist that I bought from iTunes.  maybe more, but I have not found any others that seemingly hang exactly as you describe at 0.00 seconds and with pause button displayed.
mindful meditation in everyday life and mindful meditation workshop....Jon-kabat zinn.  I can play these on my iPhone which is on same account without issue.
I also checked console and don't see any relevant messages.
    I have restarted.
I have not restored from backup, but I did do a complete restore a few days ago....I had lost my ipad(left in cart at Walmart), so sent remote wipe command....but got it back!  iCloud restore was perfect.  I takes a while, so hoping to avoid another restore and would rather find the issue.
    please advise.

  • Songs deleted off of iPod, after I deleted "iPod selection"

Hi! I DESPERATELY need help! (I can't live without my music)
I have the 2nd generation, 4 GB nano, and when I synced my songs today, iTunes (the newest version available on the apple website) told me that all of my songs in iTunes cannot fit in my iPod. So it asked me if I wanted to create an "iPod selection" so my songs would be synced, so I said yes.
After turning on my iPod, I noticed that all my playlists were gone, and this "iPod selection" had replaced all of them. So, I went back to iTunes, deleted the "iPod selection", and went back to my iPod thinking all my old playlists would be there, but ALL MY MUSIC IS GONE! Luckily, I have all my songs backed up on my computer, but now my iPod is EMPTY, and I have no idea how to re-sync my songs!
Whenever I try to sync, it tells me "it cannot be synced because all of the playlists for syncing no longer exist".
I would really appreciate some help, thanks!!

You get this problem when the option 'Sync Music - Selected playlists' is being used to sync your iPod. If the playlist selected is deleted from iTunes the iPod no longer has a location to sync from and you get an error. (Syncing selected playlists by the way is a useful setting to use when the iPod is smaller than the iTunes library). However you can make a new one or make use of an existing one.
Open iTunes and create a playlist to update your iPod from, call it -My iPod for example (the dash will position it at the top of the playlists in Sources). You can make it a smart playlist that picks the songs for you or just a normal one and drag whatever content you want to have into the playlist. If you are making a smart playlist limit it to just less than the size of your iPod (for example 3700MB for a 4G iPod Nano. Now connect your iPod and when it appears in the Source list click on the iPod icon to bring up the preference tabs in the main pane. Go to the Music tab and choose Sync Music and the Selected playlists radio button. Choose the playlist you just made from the selection and click Apply. You can also sync from any existing playlists by choosing the same setting, you just need to make sure that the size of the playlists don't exceed the capacity of your iPod:
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
    Syncing Music to iPod
To make a random playlist go to File>New Smart Playlist.
    Uncheck "Match the following rule"
Check "Limit to" put "3700" in the number box, choose "MB" from the first list box, choose "Random" from the next list box. Check "Live Updating"
When you want to change the selection in the smart playlist just delete everything in it and it will add a new selection. When you want to change the normal playlist just delete out what you don't want and drag in a new selection.
