  • Black & white photo has a magenta cast.

New HP Officejet Pro 8500A, using the recommended HP brochure paper 180g glossy.  I'm trying to print borderless and have set up the print options correctly.  I am getting a magenta cast only when I print a black & white photo.
Brand new ink, and I have already tried  aligning the printheads.
I was getting muddy prints using non HP paper, so bought the HP paper and now have this magenta issue.
    I am using Windows Vista.
    thanks for any help.

  • Black & White Photos to not appear in iPhoto

I added several black & white photos into the library of iPhoto along with many color photos, but none of the black & white show.
Each of the B & W have a black place holder but it is totally black. If I click a photo, it displays as a ghost image lacking detail.
I originally edited these photo scans in Photoshop and saved them as a jpeg image without layers.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance

I had same problem. I scanned and saved as greyscale, imported and then they show up as black in preview, etc. Is there any way to change the photos that I have already scanned and saved without having to scan all of them again under the new profile?

This would indicate your magenta ink is not printing properly.  Try the troubleshooting steps in this page.

  • Canon EOS 6D - Black & White photos

Hello, With my current camera (Canon Powershot IS 50) I can do black & white photos but tell the camera which colour should remain (so for example I can do pics where all the photo is black & white but the red colours stay red, etc.) I would like to do the same thing with the EOS 6D, but cannot find how to do it. Sorry I am a completely new user of the 6D. Thanks for all hints !! Michael

If you mean something like this, it is a little more involved. I was/am not aware of any camera that does this. If you are just asking if you can use "filters" on a color photo to make a certain look on B&W, it is much easier.

  • My iPhone only takes Black & White Photos?

Out of the blue, my iPhone will only take black & white photo's in Photo mode.  Color will appear in the Video, Square & Pano mode.   How do I fix this?  (I did not download any apps & I tried rebooting to no avail.)

    Thank you for the hint.
A filter is just a property. Deactivated it you will be shown the original.
The filter colors are not rendered into a photos file, the photo's data keeps unchanged in the camera roll.
For example: you shot 100 photos of an important event. You take a look at the camera roll and see many photos in weird colors, because you accidentally activated a filter. You can simply select this photo, deactivate the filter and get back the original.

  • I am scanning black/white photos and making a few adjustments - retouching and cropping.  The photos then turn red.  Why?

I am scanning black/white photos and making a few adjustments - retouching and cropping.  Some (only some) of the photos turn red. Why and what do I do to correct this problem?

This is because we've scanned the photo's using grey scale.
Through further searching I found a solution thanks to Terence.  You can convert your already scanned photos to the required sRGB format by doing the following:
Open Automator.  Select your photo's that need converting from the file and drop into Automator.
You can create an Automtor workflow to assign an sRGB profile to images.
The variable you want is 'Apply ColorSync Profile' to images and then select sRGB from the drop down.
    Hope this helps!

  • Black & White photos printing as purple

My wife was copying some historical black & white family photos.  Six or so printed fine, then one photo changed from black & white to a purpleish tone at the 90% complete phase, only the bottom edge had changed colors.  We loaded another black cartridge believing this was the cause, but to no avail.  Now all Black & White photos are printing in purple.
    Standard printing is fine.
    Copying is fine.
    Scanning is fine.
But photo printing of black & white pictures results in the copies being 100% purple toned.
    Why?
HP 6510 printer, only two onths old.

The printer uses color ink to print black when printing on photo paper because the pigmented black ink is not compatible with photo paper.  It appears you have run out of yellow ink.  I would suggest the troubleshooting steps in the document here to resolve the issue.  Be sure to check the vents on the yellow supply as shown in solution two.

  • Iphone shows black & white photo's & video when connected to HD TV?

I bought the Apple composite A/V cables to connect my iphone 3GS to my HD TV. While both photo's and video do play on the TV, they are in black & white. Does anyone know why? Is there a setting in the iphone that allows color? I'm sure it's not a setting on my TV, as all other devices that I'm able to connect to the TV work in color, except the iphone. Any suggestions?

I know that on some TV's(Samsung as an example) not all of their component inputs will work properly with composite cables and will display in black & white unless the correct input is used. Try using a different input like the one labled number 1.

  • Printing a black & white photo

    Hi all,
I'm not sure whether this is the right category but here goes.
I have scanned an old photo using my HP Photosmart C4580, into Photoshop and changed the now, sepia colours to black & white which is fine.
The problem arises when I then try to print it on the same printer, as it doesn't come out black and white, it is printing with a distinct blue tinge so obviously it is not using the black cartridge but is trying to cobble something using the colour cartridge.
Is there a means of forcing it to print in black & white, i.e. ONLY use the black cartridge.
Before you ask, I am on WIndows XP SP3 (which I don't think should make any difference) and I haven't tried removing the colour cartridge as I have a feeling that it might complain that it is missing a cartridge and then possibly get stuffed up when I put the colour cartridge back in.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
    Regards

OK, there are a few issues here.  First, the cartridges are regionalized and there are four different regions and cartridges and printers are not compatible across the different regions.  If you bought the printer in the UK and moved to New Zealand then you will need to Contact HP to request a "Regionalization Reset". There should not be any charge for this, it is covered as part of the cartridge warranty. You will need to have access to your computer and printer while on the line with HP. You will also need to have a set of cartridges for the new region, once the reset is complete cartridges from the original region will no longer work.  HP's web page on the subject is here.
As for the color vs.. black vs.. photo cartridges, your printer can use several different combinations.  The cartridges are as follows:
Black:  Contains pigmented black ink.  This is excellent for plain paper text but is not compatible with glossy photo papers.  The drop size is ~3x larger than the color or photo drops since this cartridge is optimized for text.  When photo paper is selected this cartridge will not be used.
Color:  Contains cyan, magenta and yellow dye based ink. The dye based ink is compatible with plain paper or photo paper.
Photo:  Contains light cyan, light magenta and black dye based inks.  Used in conjunction with a Color cartridge the combination can give more detailed B&W prints and less "grainy" light areas such as color sky and face tones.
For your case a working color cartridge would likely print fine B&W photo's, but if you did a side by side comparison with a print made with the color and photo cartridges installed you may see an improvement.

  • How can I Copy/Paste a Black & White Photo into a Layer Mask

    I have a landscape picture.
Then I will copy it into another layer and convert it to black and white. I will make some changes to the B&W photo
Then I want this B&W photo to be the layer mask of a "Layer-Multiply" of the original ...
I tried copy and paste as it is, but it doesn´t works
Please help me with the steps or what I am doing wrong.
    Regards
    Roberto

You can paint not only a black and white photo, but also a coloured one.
Once you have copied the photo (Ctrl A and Ctrl C), before trying to paste, be sure that the layer mask is active, Alt click in the layer palette in the mask icon on the right : you get a white screen and the mask icon is shown selected. Only then can you paste into the mask (Ctrl V). To exit the mask view, Alt click again or click in the layer icon on the left.
When you paste a coloured pictures it is automatically converted to grayscale.

  • Colourizing a black/white photo

Is there any way to put some colour in a black and white photo?

Switch mode to RGB or CMYK
Make a new layer on top, and set blending mode to color and begin to paint. If the color is too bright set the opacity of the layer to something less than 100%.

  • Adding Color to Black & White Photo

I have PE 9 and I know how to change a photo from Color to Black and White.  I am having trouble adding color back to the photo...Could someone please help me selectively add color to my now black and white photo.
    Thanks in advance.

    That's the easiest.
    Open your full colour image.
Choose the Smart Brush tool I showed in my previous post.
On the Options bar for the tool,
    hit the dropdown arrow (1).
Hit the effects dropdown box and choose "Black and White" (2).
    Select "Grayscale" (3).
Set your brush to a small size.
Paint over the areas you want to be in Black & White.  The brush automatically selects entire areas as you paint.
If it goes too far, set the brush to "minus"
and paint over the excess area to return it to the original colour.
The automatic selection kind of "learns" what you want, so by going back and forth between "plus" and "minus", you'll ultimately get what you want.

  • Creating a sharp line in a black & white photo

I have a jpg of an old family picture.
I brought the jpg into PSE 5.0 for Windows and saved it as a psd.
I did a 'Convert to Black & White' to sharpen up the picture.
Now I would like to add some notes to the picture to help identify the people who are in it. I can add text to the top margin of the picture to put the names on the image. Then I tried to use the line tool to draw a line with an arrowhead to the person. But when I drew the line I got a significant fuzzy blur to the left of my line. If I go the the Layers and change the Opacity from 100% to 0% then I can eliminate the blur. But when I do that my line changes from a solid black line to a 'hollow' line. That is, the arrowhead is no longer solid black, it is just an outline. Which tends to get lost on my black and white photo.
I've tried using the Pencil tool. I can make a nice sharp solid line with it. But, of course, my hand isn't steady enough to get a straight line. And I'd want to put an arrowhead on the end of the line anyway.
Well, any suggestions on how to get the line tool to give me what I want on this image would be great. Or, if there is a better way to identify these people I'd be happy to try that as well.
    Thanks.

    Thanks, Ken.
When I hold down the shift key while drawing my second and subsequent lines the new lines are drawn on the same layer as the original. With the opacity of that layer set to 0% my lines/arrows look pretty good. So I'm happy with my image. It has a background layer, several text layers and the layer with all the arrows in it. Now I try to save the psd file as a jpg. It saves ok, but all the arrows disappear. I went back to my psd file and tried some things like flattening the layers and I get the same result - the arrows are no longer visible.
If I could get the arrows to remain visible I believe this would be a fine solution for marking up my picture.
    Thanks!
