3G capabilities of an ipod touch

Maybe its just me but i think that apple should work with any phone company like they are with the Ipad 1&2 and they should do a 3G plan for the ipod touch's

Seems like they would competing with their own products.
This makes very little sense to me, but you can let Apple know if you like.

can you play that same games on the ipod touch as you can on the iphone?
Can you buy the iphone and not register it with at&t but still be able to use all of its internet features such as games, music store, stocks, chat, and all the other things that arent on the ipod touch?

They are both the same in regards to WiFi but the iPhone also has edge service
They both have the same games as far as web apps go
If you buy a iPhone you have to activate it with phone service or it will not work.

  • IPhone vs. iPod Touch -- question

Hello. I'm in the market for a new cell phone and I think I'm going to buy a 32GB iPhone. I already have a 64GB iPod Touch, and my question is: what are the differences between the two? There is, of course, the obvious answer that the iPhone has cell phone capabilities whereas the iPod Touch does not -- I'm aware of this, but I'm curious what the differences are between the two devices aside from this.
The reason I ask is because the 32GB iPhone and the 32GB iPod Touch are both priced at $299, which I found surprising -- I would have thought that the iPhone would be more expensive than its equivalent iPod Touch. The iPhone can do something the iPod Touch can't (the ability to be used as a cell phone), which I would think would make it cost more money than the iPod Touch, so the fact that they are the same price seems to indicate that the iPod Touch must, in turn, have something that iPhone does not, in order to negate the iPhone's cell phone capabilities and explain the equal price.
So, what, if anything, does the iPod Touch have that the iPhone doesn't? Is there anything the iPod Touch can do that the iPhone can't? Are it's audio and video capabilities just as good? In other words, will music sound just as good through my iPhone as it would through my iPod Touch? Will movies look just as good?
What are all the difference between the two devices?
    Thank you for your help!

The 32G iPhone is $299 because it's subsidized by AT&T. You have to sign a 2 year contract and pay a monthly data access fee for those 2 years. The actual cost of the 32G iPhone is $500-600. The music and video is the same for both but the new iPhone 4 has the hi-res screen that an older Touch will not.
Google is your friend... there are LOTS of iPhone vs. Touch comparisons on the web. Here's one... http://nexus404.com/Blog/2010/09/09/iphone-4-vs-ipod-touch-4g-almost-identical-b ut-so-different-the-new-iphone-4-ipod-touch-4g-should-be-so-similar-but-they-rea lly-aren%E2%80%99t/

  • TS1398 my 3rd generation ipod touch recently lost wifi capabilities. I reset the network settings... this did not help.  I did a complete reset, I now no longer have the Safari icon on my itouch.  Has Apple removed wifi on older models to force new purcha

I recently lost wifi capabilities on my 3rd generation ipod touch.  I reset the network which did nothing so I did a complete reset.  This actually removed the Safari icon off my itouch and still wifi is completely grayed-out.  Has Apple removed the wifi capabilities to force the purchase of new items?
I find it completely disturbing that only recently has this become an issue for 3rd generation itouch users.
Can someone please help as I am exceptionally frustrated

found out i can't update ipod touch 4th generation to ios7 which is now required to use facetime. have used facetime for several years with family now can't use. Apple should not take away the capabilities you already have paid for!!

No correct, you do not need iOS for FaceTime. You only needed to update to iOS 6.1.6.

ipod touch just lost all wi-fi capabilities. full restore as new ipod did nothing to change it. I cannot enter pass codes etc because there are no wi-fi networks found to join, despite other apple devices finding my wireless just fine, all sitting at same desk (and the airplane mode is off). thoughts?

  • Does the ipod touch 4th generation have blue tooth capabilities to use with a jambox

I got a jambox for mother's day can i use my 4th generation ipod touch wirelessly with it?

Sure you can. That's why your iPod is having Bluetooth.

  • My IPod touch 3rd gen. 8GB doesn't have any of the capabilities a "3rd gen." has.  If I would have known this I might have purchased a 16 GB or 32 GB instead.  Why did apple make such a product?  Can I do something about this?

    Please help.

That's because it's not actually a 3G iPod Touch. It's a 2G unit. Apple never sold 3G 8 GB iPod Touches, but some third party resellers erronenously reffered to them as so.

  • IPod Touch 5 Capabilities

Is the iPod Touch 5 capable of movie and tv show watching, and podcasts and audio books? Does it have an FM Tuner like the iPod Nano?

It does not have an FM radio. Yes to all other other features.

  • IPOD Touch Bluetooth capabilities with OS 3.0

Will the bluetooth finally being unlocked with OS 3.0 allow me to connect my Touch to my bluetooth enabled car stereo? Also, will it allow the touch to accept a bluetooth GPS puck in order to use the Touch as a GPS for different mapping programs and integrate with Google Maps for GPS navigation?
    Thanks for the help.

There is no reason that bluetooth GPS should be unavailable on the ipod touch. The sad truth is that Apple has always been way behind the curve in thinking about GPS. This has been intensely frustrating for large numbers of people. 3.0 "unlocks" bluetooth for the touch, but the touch cannot yet speak through bluetooth to GPS devices. Given Apple's past and what appears to be its marketing plan, I wouldn't wait--unless there's some cooperation with Tom-Tom about this. But I don't think Apple's mind is focused on the ipod touch.

  • MacBook loses wireless connection when iPod touch connects to network

    hi
ever since upgrading to 10.5.5. on my MacBook i've had the "intermittent network connection" problems that have been described and discussed (without any real solution from what i can see) in another thread.
PROBLEM: every couple of minutes my MacBook loses connectivity to the network - the AirPort icon still says that i'm connected, albeit with one less bar than before, but i can't connect to anywhere, not even to the wireless router - and to re-establish a connection i need to switch off AirPort, switch it back on, it will then reconnect, and after two minutes or so i have to do it all over again because the network connection drops again.
NOVEL OBSERVATION 1: reinstalling the 10.5.5. combo system updater helped somewhat. i used to get an error in system.log about there being too many state transitions on the wireless network and about network traffic reduction measures being taken to overcome this problem, but after reinstalling the 10.5.5. combo system updater this message never appears in the logs and I get kicked off only sometimes (see what i say in point 2 below)
NOVEL OBSERVATION 2: now my MacBook will only lose its connection to the net if i switch on my iPod Touch and switch its wireless interface on. in fact, the only way to avoid the MacBook getting constantly disconnected is to make sure that the wireless interface on the Touch is switched off in the Touch's system preferences; if I just sleep the Touch (top button) without switching off its wireless network interface first in its System Preferences, then the MacBook will keep disconnecting even while the Touch is in sleep mode (presumably the Touch keeps polling the network or something, even while it's in sleep mode).
DIAGNOSTIC NOTE 1: I have another wireless device (my Nokia E51, which has wifi capabilities) and if I connect it to the wireless interface then the MacBook's connection isn't dropped - i.e. the MacBook only loses its wireless connection when my iPod Touch connects to the wireless network.
DIAGNOSTIC NOTE 2: I have upgraded my wireless router (before I had a Linksys WRT-54GC, now I have a Netgear WGR614v9) but that has made no difference.
DIAGNOSTIC NOTE 3: I have also tried altering the router's settings (i have played around a_lot with this, trying every combination I could think of - e.g. staple down particular devices to particular ip addresses, use only 802.11g versus automatic b/g, etc) but that has made no difference either.
    RANT:
The only thing that prevents these disconnections from occurring is to keep the iPod Touch's wireless switched off, which ***** because if I'm in the kitchen I can't have it switched on to monitor my email (yes, I've no life, i hang around waiting for emails), or if I go have a lie down and want to check out stuff on the net, or to browse the iTunes music store or whatever, then I know that my connecting my iPod Touch the computer will be disconnected.
This obviously *****, right? And a lot of people are having wireless problems with their MacBooks, right? And these problems seem to have been around for over a year, right?
So why hasn't Apple solved this problem yet? Or am I just being melodramatic?
Your thoughts on any or all of the above, or flames if that's your preferred method of communicating, are invited. =)
    Cheers
    dr.colekat

Having the same problem here. As a first time mac user, Apple has certainly made a bad first impression.
For me, the issue seems to occur when transferring files between computers that are connected to the same access point (when transferring files from wired computers on the network there is no issue). My vista laptop and every laptop I have tried has worked perfectly fine with this access point so I am 100% convinced it is the mac. Basically when I copy the files, after about 100mb, I am unable to access anything on the local network or internet until I restart Airport. The weird thing is that even though I am unable to access anything, the airport utility says it is connected. I might also note that the wireless signal strength is full.
If I can't get this figured out in a few days, this computer is going back to the store where it came from and I will officially label myself anti-mac. This type of issue is just unacceptable for something so main stream.

  • How can I get my ipod touch properly when it keeps stalling in different stages and hours later doesn't sync all the songs I checked?

My ipod touch has been stalling in different stages of the syncing process and when it finally stops hours later, it only syncs some of the songs and playlists I've checked. This is well within the memory storage. To be honest, this thing has been a problem since all the updates a year ago. I've been using my ipod classic, but I would like to use this one because of the blue tooth capabilities. This is very frustrating.

Try here. Do not forget the Additional Information topic.

  • How to set up "Find My iPod Touch" 3G without MobileMe

Hi, I have an iPod touch 3G and want to set up "Find My iPod Touch" on it, as described here:
    http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/find-my-ipodtouch-setup/
I'm running OS 4.3.4 (8K2) and have iTunes 10.4.1.  I have an AppleID but not a MobileMe account.  I understand that since iCloud is replacing MobileMe, they are not accepting any more subscriptions (not that I'm anxious to pay $99/year for what will now be a free service).  I'm not sure I want to create a new account anyway, because all the apps I own are linked to my current Apple ID which is not an email address.
I have a program called "Hidden" for my Macbook which works via wi-fi.  If I lose the Macbook, I log into the Hidden website and it triggers the Macbook to  broadcast its location via wi-fi (assuming it's within range of a signal).  So I would assume that since an iPod touch has wi-fi capabilities, it could do something similar even though it's not directly linked to the internet like an iPhone.
Does anybody know how I can get this going?
My son has an iPad 2 that is wi-fi only and I would like to set up the same for him.
Thanks for any help you can give!

I updated to OS5, and changed my Apple ID to the email account associated with it on this page:
    http://www.apple.com/support/appleid/manage/
and now Find My iPod Touch is installed!  Resolved!

  • Can i upgrade the OS on my iPod Touch 1st generation so i can use wifi and apps?

i recenlty cracked the screen on my iPod and my son gave me an older one of his, which i think is a 1st Gen.  there is no access to the internet capabilities and therefore no apps.  would downloading the more recent firmware allow me to use the iPod the way I'm used to? i miss mail, facebook and texting capabilities of my other device.

    Here it is
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2052
The page has a link that directs you to a page you have to open iTunes. The iTunes link then directs you to download the update directly into your iT account and from there you plug in your ipt and wait while it does the update.
    Hope this helps.
If, for some reason the link doesn't show up, I found it by Googling "ipod 3.1.3" and clicked on a link called "
OS 3.0 for 1st gen iPod Touch - 23 Feb 2011" then followed their advice...
