3G Clickwheel Ipod won't mount after update to ITunes 7.0

I recently updated to iTunes 7 and ever since my iPod won't mount. I can't see it on my desktop, and iTunes says the iPod is corrupt. I checked to make sure the Firewire port is working, and as far as I can tell, it is. I have tried to connect the iPod using both USB and Firewire, with the same result. I have also tried another Firewire cord, and that didn't work either.
I don't think the iPod is corrupt, because it was exactly after I updated to 7.0.1 that it stopped mounting. I thought 7.0.2 would resolve this issue, but it has not. The iPod works as it should when not connected to my computer.
I do NOT want to reload the iPod to factory settings, because over 1900 songs would be lost (my hard drive crashed last year, and this is the only place I have of many of these songs). This seems to be a known problem with the new version, but I don't know how to resolve it. Any suggestions?
iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I have the identical problem with my Ipod & Imac. I haven't updated my Ipod for awhile, and although it works just fine independently, once I plug it into either my Imac or Ibook, the computer will not recognize it so I can't add new songs. The ipod doesn't show up in ITunes, in System Profiler, Disk Utility. I'm using Itunes 7.02 and judging from some other newsgroups I have read, there are many Ipod owners with this problem. I hope Apple gets it fixed soon.

ipod classic won't mount after updating to itunes 11.0.2.
I updated to itunes 11.0.2 today, after delaying it for a looong time (I have it @ work and don't like the new layout).
Since then, none of my ipods will mount/show up/update. I've tried all USB ports, 3 ipods, 3 cords. Wondering if you know of any issues. I've restarted the mac about 15-20 times today since as soon as I hook up an ipod, itunes immediately spins the beach ball and won't let me click out of it.
I've restarted the ipods 10+ times each.
All of the ipods DO show up on my desktop though. Just not in itunes anywhere with 11.0.2.
One more thing: It's not the cables or the ipods: they both mount fine when connected to my laptop (running old *** 10.4.11 and itunes 9.)
Machine is a Mac Pro running 10.6.8.

Finding this Post took some time but I thought it was me talking when I read it. I was having the exact same issue. I have a G3 I've been upgrading like mad, including a Sonnet G4-500 CPU a Maxtor 60gb & 80gb HDs 1gb of RAM a new LaCie Firewire800 PCI card Graphics card etc. the latest was installing Panther 10.3.9 on the new 80gb HD and also swapping out the old CD-ROM and replacing with the (Apple standard) Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-110D combo drive in it's place. got everything up and booted and poof! no burning. Toast worked read/write no problem. iTunes could read and import no problem, but wouldn't burn a CD.
Downloaded "PatchBurn 3.1.3" installed, re-booted and all is OK in burner land again :>)
I wanted to just post my additional thanks to the lead to Patchburner, and I'm going to donate to the cause. It's worth a $20 donation just for my joy of not throwing this computer out the window!!

  • IPod Won't Sync After Updating to iTunes 10

Whenever I click sync to add the music that I purchased in the online store, it says that it is syncing the ipod, but then stops and then loads on the ipod screen for it being okay to disconnect. I've reinstalled itunes 10, tried itunes 8 (wouldnt work because library was converted to itunes 10) and it still does this same exact thing where it won't sync my music from the library on my computer to the ipod.
    Help please.

Since upgrading iTunes I've noticed that not all of my podcasts will sync - one or two are always left out. Syncing again will get the stragglers, but it used to work just fine.
Another issue, possibly related, is I've seen an accumulation of 'Other' data on my iPod that I can't identify. I'm beginning to think it might be abandoned audio files from auto updating smart playlists that remove selections after they've been played. Doesn't happen with podcasts, though, because that smart playlist refuses to auto update on the iPod.

  • Time Capsule won't mount after upgrade to iTunes 9

See my full post in the Time Capsule support section ("Help! Time Capsule won't mount after installing iTunes 9"). My music library is on my Time Capsule, but after installing iTunes 9, it won't mount on my iMac G5. I can use the internet, but the disk won't mount. My Powerbook hasn't been updated yet and the Time Capsule mounts fine.

To make it easier, here's the post:
"My music library is on my 500 Gb Time Capsule. I just installed iTunes 9 on my iMac. It updated my library and synced my iPhone. Now, the TC won't mount. I still have internet connectivity, but I can't access my media or print to my printer connected to the TC. I can use the computer and everything, but if I hover my mouse over the TC disks menu bar icon, I get the spinning beach ball there. If I try to connect using my Network icon in the sidebar, it allows me to log in and get to the screen to select the volume I want to mount, then stops responding. In the Activity Monitor, AFP Client & AirPort Base Station Agent are not responding. I also have a Powerbook G4 w/Leopard (10.5.8) which hasn't been updated to iTunes 9 yet. The Time Capsule mounted fine on it."

  • Cd's won't burn after update to iTunes 6

New poster here (but have been reading for months).
I am an official idiot. Backround: After much stress, I solved my burn problms that started after updating to iTunes 5, thanks to this forum. I went from the error at the very end of the burn to at least being able to burn very slowly.
Finally updated to version 6, after reading here that nothing changed about burning from v5 to v6, and thinking I'd waited long enough that the bugs would be out of v6-- HA!
Now I can't burn at all --itunes hangs up right after reading the tracks. I can hear the disc spin then stop completely.Help!

I'm suddenly having burning problems also. Was working fine and will burn using other programs so I don't think it's the drive. I can click to start burning a playlist, it runs through checking the playlist, checks all of the songs, then the entire program freezes. It doesn't give an error message to help me figure out the problem. Not trying to burn songs from iTunes store, just my own compilation. Using the same disks I always have. • External drive and ipod won't mount after latest security update

I just downloaded the latest security update on my powerbook, and now my lacee external hard-drive won't mount. I ran disc permissions and still nothing. My ipod charges from the firewire port but doesn't mount either. The hard-drive mounts fine on my dome imac which appears to have the latest updates as well. Could it be a problem with the firewire port itself or something to do with the security update? Thanks for the help.

Your PowerBook is hurting my friend. Check "About this Mac" and see if the memory reported is the actual memory you have installed on the machine. I had a PB that had 1GB installed but the machine only read 256. Ended up needing a logic board replacement. Check http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303173 to see if it applies to you.
Unplug all devices from the PB, leaving only power connected.
If it everything seems cool, then you'll want to start up in "single user mode". Restart the PB and hold down the  + s (apple and s) keys until you get a black display with white characters. Once you get the command prompt signified by a # character. At that point type in the following at the prompt
    fsck -yf
    then hit your return key
As the system check your HD, notice any errors that are displayed. After it is done it will inform you of any modifications, or if it thinks everything is cool.
    then again, type in
    fsck -yf
    then hit your return key
You'll want to have run the fsck -yf utility a total of 3 times. Hopefully at the end everything will be good (No errors) "* appears to be OK".
    In any case, type in
    reboot -n
    then hit your return key
Your PB will reboot. After the OS has loaded, plug in your FW devices and see if they mount. Either way post back with results.

  • IPod won't mount on desktop/in iTunes...updater useless

I have a second generation iPod (scroll wheel/row of 4 buttons), and iTunes 6.0.4 running on a dp G4 500 with Mac OS 10.2.8. Suddenly my iPod won't appear on the desktop or in iTunes when I plug it into the dock. I've tried different FW ports, etc. and nothing happens.
I ran the iPod Updater 2006-01-10 (v. 2.1 I assume) and it said my iPod was connected and was waiting for it to be recognized. Then it just hangs and nothing ever happens.
I can't even get an option to Restore the iPod let alone Update it. I've followed the instructions on resetting the iPod as well but nada.
Would iTunes 6.0.4 have anything to do with it? I just installed it and it may be the cause. Does anyone know where I can find iTunes 6.0.3 installer? It's not on Apple's site or VersionTracker.com.

UPDATE: I brought my iPod to an Apple retailer yesterday and they were able to get it to mount on a Mac there using the Dock Connector to USB 2.0 cable. They let me borrow it to try it at home and it worked! The iPod mounted on the desktop and in iTunes with no problems.
I even tried plugging the iPod into the FW Dock afterward and it's working again like there wasn't ever any problem. Somehow just getting it to mount seems to have fixed the problem so hopefully this info will be of some use to someone else.

  • External Buffalo HD won't mount after update to 10.5.7.

As the title suggests, I have a 250 GB Buffalo external HDD connected to my mac mini (2009). I did the update via software update & after the restart the external HDD won't mount. Any ideas anyone please?

Not exactly a Buffalo drive, but my problem seems very similar, and I'm convinced it occurred after a recent operating system update.
I have a Tascam DP-01FX that I use infrequently and that functions perfectly. I have used the USB connection to transfer files back and forth to three computers; and old G4 Mac (now out of commission), a new iMac (running OS 10.5.8, and an old Dell Inspiron 5000 (running Windows XP). The last time I tried to connect it to the iMac, the System profiler indicated it was connected, but it never mounted on the desktop, and it could not be made to appear in Disk Utility. I tried all varieties of connection; through a high speed hub, directly to the computer (with ALL other USB devices disconnected including the keyboard), etc. I zapped the computer's PRAM, verified and repaired permissions on the system drive. I even unplugged the computer and everything connected to it for half an hour, then reconnected and zapped the PRAM again. Nothing I've done will make the Tascam device mount on the desktop. However, it mounted with no problems on the old Dell Inspiron 5000. The kicker is that I've successfully and easily used the DP-01FX on the iMac on a previous occasion. All this leads me to believe there is something in an Apple software update that is causing this problem. All other USB devices work flawlessly, including an external hard drive that I only use for special projects about once a week. It mounts and un-mounts without any problems. This has got to be an Apple "oops."

  • IPod won't sync after update

After updating iTunes files were corrupted.  I unintalled and reinstalled according to the instructions from Apple.  My iPod doesn't sync and I my library is gone.  It may be in iCloud but I can't get it to work.  Any suggestions?

If the iTunes Library file becomes corrupted, iTunes creates a new one (that is empty) and starts using it.  That may be why your iTunes library is "gone."  However, your iTunes media files (such as your song files) are probably still on your computer's drive.  In Windows, do a search on the name of a song that was in your iTunes library.  If you can find that song's file, note its location.  All of your song files are probably along that same path.  If you were using standard settings in iTunes, they are in your user home folder's Music folder, under iTunes and then iTunes Media.  Something like this
    \Users\[your username]\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\
If you can find your song files, you may be able to recover your iTunes library using the procedure described in this document
iTunes: How to re-create your iTunes library and playlists - Apple Support
If that is not possible, you can still add your song files to a new iTunes library.  You will lose supporting data such as playlists, ratings, and play count.  After you have your songs in an iTunes library, you can sync your iPod to that library.  NOTE:  Songs on the iPod that are not in your new iTunes library will be lost.  You can reply back, if this is a problem or you have problems syncing your iPod to a new library.
Songs purchased from the iTunes Store can be re-downloaded at no cost.  If any purchased songs were lost, go to the iTunes Store.  Be sure to sign in using the Apple ID used for the purchase.  Then, go to the Purchased screen (there is a link to Purchased on the main iTunes Store screen along right side).  You can download (most) previous purchases there.
If you subscribe to Apple's iTunes Match service, your entire iTunes music library is matched or uploaded in iCloud.  If this is the case, please reply back.

  • Please help- Audio Cd won't mount after Update to 10.3.9

My CD/DVD drive is MATSHITA CD-RW CW-8122. Data CDs and DVDs are mounting fine. However when I put in an audio cd it clicks a few times and soonafter ejects. Everything was fine as far as I can remember before my update to 10.3.9 (from 10.3.5, I think). I've done the list of suggestions in some of the posts (deleting preferences and cache files, permissions, pram zap) but there's no change. Please help!

"And here's what's REALLY wacky- audio CDs created on a computer (non-store bought) mount fine AND launch itunes just like normal. And the CD track names are retrieved and all that. It's only with the manufactured Audio CDs that I get this click-click - small purr- click- eject. This is any manufactured Audio CD, old or brand new."
Hummmm--- I wonder if you are purchasing any of those copy protected audio CDs? It is the only thing I can think of that can cause that.

PS... On the other hand all this happened after an update??? Puzzling!

  • Time Machine EHD won't mount after update to  10.6.7

I recently upgraded to OS X 10.6.7. Yesterday, my Time Machine backup failed and the LaCie EHD that I use for my backups won't mount anymore. My husband was able to see the EHD on his PC, so I don't think it's a problem with the drive. I suspect that it has to do with the OS update. Any suggestions?

If you have a desktop computer: Unplug it from the outlet and anything plugged into the firewire/usb ports, leave it that way for 45 seconds minimum check it again and see if it mounts in disk utility
If you have a laptop do one of these two steps and post back if it mounts:
Removable battery: Remove battery, disconnect charger(power adapter), hold down power button for 5 seconds, put back in battery should resolve
Embedded (non removable) battery: plug in the power adapter/charger, turn off computer, hold down on the LEFT side of the keyboard Shift-Control-Option. While your holding all of these press the power button once, let go of just the power button. Two seconds or so later let go of the rest of the buttons, you'll know this step was successful if it didn't turn on.
If it doesn't or does show up also post back your answer to this:
Click on the Apple icon in the top left hand corner, click on About This Mac, click on More Info. Then Click on Firewire or USB (Depending what type of connection your EXHD has) if you see it in the right it's a recognized device, just not mounting, give me a heads up whether you do or don't see it there.

  • Applications won't open after update to iTunes and QuickTime

I just allowed a software update for iTunes and QuickTime. After rebooting, I found that the Finder will not start, nor Mail nor most other applications. TextEdit will start, which gives me the Menu bar so I can switch users, but all users have the same problem.
I cannot see the hard drive icon without the Finder. If I hit the Finder button, it wiggles and then dies. Safari starts, but "quits unexpectedly" when I try to browse with it.
I bought the G5 with 10.2 installed, then upgraded to 10.3 I have the 10.3 upgrade disks, but don't know if I can use these to do an archive and re-install.
I can see the hard drive by doing an "open" from TextEdit, but of course I can't use that to open another application. I've booted of the 10.3 upgrade disk and used Disk Repair, but it found no problems. Lots of permissions problems, but I doubt that is causing the trouble.
I'm in a real fix here. Any suggestions?
    Thanks,

I'm having a similar problem only with disk utility after updating iTunes and Quicktime. I am unable to repair permissions, but otherwise the machine is working great as before. When I try to repair permissions using either Cocktail or Onyx it just keeps going, going, going and going but never finishes. It will run for several hours before I have to force quit the application. Repairing permissions has never taken more than 15 minutes prior to this update.
I decided to try using disk utility while booted to osx, I get a message that says communication between the disk managment tool and disk utility has been lost and operation cannot continue. The same error occurs when running disk utility off the startup cd. I restored using my backup then ran disk utility and all was okay using all of the methods mentioned above. I installed the updates again and the same problem occurs when trying to repair permissions.
Guess I will reload my backup and wait for a fix from apple unless someone chimes in with ideas on what could be wrong. Thank goodness for backups!!! This is the first software update that has given me any problems. Oh, one other thing. I installed the updates on my titanium powerbook running 10.3.9 and didn't have any problems. The setup on my tibook is essentially the same as my powermac G4. What gives? Anyone else having problems after installing the updates?

  • DVD,s won't mount after updates

    I recently bought a G5 1.6gig, 1.25 gig ram.
I got it a couple of days ago. DVD's were fine on it with Tiger, no updates installed. I then installed leopard on a new had drive I installed, seagate 320gig and did all the updates for tiger and leopard. I can play/import cd's to may machine but now it will not mount DVD's. It will read the leopard install DVD and commercial dvd's but will not read any I have burnt myself on different machines......any ideas?
    Thx

I'm sorry but I can't answer this question.. All I can say is that a lot of people on this forum are experiencing the same problem. Sadly, I'm out of support and can't get apple to even discuss this with me. My DVD read blanks no problem until I installed the latest iTunes and added an iPhone. Now I'm having the exact same problem as you. This is driving me mad as I know it's not hardware and must be something to do with one of apple's flakey updates.. Do you have support on your G5?

  • Quicktime and iTunes Won't Open after updating to iTunes 7.3.1

So this morning I downloaded iTunes 7.3.1, but I winged it as usual. And I only winged it because the option to upgrade was in Korean, and for some reason I can't change it to English. But anyway, I updated as usual and my computer restarted. Then I tried to open up iTunes and I got a error report. And it took me to a Windows Error Reporting and said the problem was my hard drive. And said to go to run, type in EVENTVWR, and double click on application and than double click on an event ID of 1005. That didn't work, so of course my iTunes and Quicktime(which won't install even after I tried to repair it) arn't having a temp. problem. So I tried the second solution and typed in CMD after I clicked run. And then a black window popped up and I was suppose to type in chkdsk /f, but when I tried to start typing the window just closed itself. And after I got home this evening, I tried opening iTunes and it said to reinstall iTunes and I did. So I tried opening it agains after I reinstalled it, and the same error popped up and quicktime still will not open.
So any suggestions on what to do?

Okay. That's looking like a badly broken QuickTime (although it's not the most common message people see under those circumstances).
So we'd better try swapping out your existing QuickTime. Since it's giving you "fatal errors", it's unlikely that you'll be able to use Add/remove Programs to uninstall it. So we'll try getting it out of there by other means.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. then use it to clear any existing QuickTime installation configuration information from your PC (Run CleanUp, find "QuickTime in the entries in CleanUp, select the QuickTime entry and click "Remove"):
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Next, we’ll manually remove leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx.
    7. Restart your computer.
next, we'll try to get a fresh copy of QuickTime into your PC by doing a repair install of itunes.
switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the repair install.
go into Add/Remove and select itunes. click "Change" and then click "Repair".
if the repair install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching itunes again. does it launch properly now?

  • IPod won't sync after restore - now iTunes freezes up and iPod is empty

Two days ago my iPod started acting up - playing a song for about the first 10 seconds, then freezing up. I did the 5 R's - many, many resets, switching the USB port, reinstalling the software, and several restore attempts. The new and more pressing issue now is that, after a restore attempt, the iPod syncs to about song #50 (of about 1500) and then iTunes freezes up. Because of the restore, the iPod is now empty...no tunes...and I can't get it to sync. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I fear this is a glitch with the new update? What is the solution here?

I am having similar problems. My ipod was working perfectly fine in the morning and then at lunch time it said i needed to "connect to computer source and restore" i didnt have a computer at the time so i waited till i got home. when i got home i let it sit on my computer charging before i did anything. i took it off when it was fully charged and went to go listen to it. i listened to one song and in the middle of the second song, the music started to flicker and skip. i just shut off, when i turned it back on again ALL THE CONTENT ON MY IPOD HAD JUST DISSAPEARED. i was so angry and ive been calling around, reading the internet site pages and trying all that i can to fix this **** of a problem but nothing works. HELP ME PLEASE!!
