3G + iOS 4 = no dock audio

I use(d) my iPhone 3G with both a USB auxiliary connector on my car stereo, and an iHome external speaker dock for charging and audio. Both accessories have worked flawlessly under 3.1 and prior versions of iPhone OS. After upgrading to iOS 4.0, neither accessory will play audio from the iPhone: when I connect the phone to my car, the display on the stereo says "Communications Error", and when I plug into the iHome dock, the audio plays out the iPhone's speakers instead of the external speakers (the iHome remote does not work). The phone still charges from both power sources, however.
Anyone else seeing a similar issue? Any suggestions on how to fix or get support, given that the phone is out of warranty?

Bad news I'm afraid

  • Alesis iO Dock Audio issues: up- or downgrade iOS?

    Hello,
i recently bought the Alesis iO Dock Audio Adapter for the iPad.
(iPad2 GSM, iOS 5.0.1, iO Dock Firmware v1.0.7)
Under iOS 5 i am experiencing all the annoying audio issues described here:
    http://community.alesis.com/alesis/topics/io_dock_hiss
My understanding is that there is no possibility of using the iO Dock with iOS 5, as 5.0.1 doesn't seem to do anything about it.
(tried everything from reset to resinstallation)
As this seems to be a Software issue with iOS, i would really like to see Apple giving me at leat the possibility to either
    - downgrade back to iOS 4, which i'm absolutely willing to do as audio recording is the main purpose i got the iPad for
    or
    - install at least a iOS 5.1 beta Version, which i'd also be willing to do, but not coming with a price tag of a developer account which i don't need.
I really would like to see some support for this issue.
If iOS has unsolved issues like this, users should at least be able to downgrade.
Installing iOS 5 virtually broke my iPad
merci d'advance for responding with some useful solution!
    Max

    update:
after not getting any support from retailers, manufacturers etc. at all,
i managed to install the 5.1 beta on my device.
good news is: it really does fix all the audio issues in my case. yay.
bad news is: 5.1 beta is not available for the public, so non-developers will have to wait for the official 5.1 update.
    so keep your io docks

  • BMW / Land Rover Dock audio not working - 4S,4/iOS5

It seems many are having similar problems, but here goes mine.
Up to iOS4, Everything worked perfectly. iPods, iPhone4 etc.
Plug my iPhone into the dock, music plays automatically. Use the steering functions to control playback, pull it out, music pauses.
Since I upgraded iPhone4 to iOS5, then to iPhone 4S, I can not get it to play music, unless I'm lucky.
iPhone detects that it's connected to a dock, starts charging the battery, then it SEEMS playing music, but so sound coming through.
Oddly all control features of dock audio works - fast forwading, skipping playlist, etc. Just no audio coming through.
Audio comes through about 1 in every 10 times, of placing iPhone into the dock.
I feel there maybe a certain angle? to pushing in to make it work, slightly nudging the top of iPhone towards myself while plugging seems to work better, but it might be just me being crumsy so not too sure about this.
Thought this might be an issue with the dock itself, then I tried iPod Classic and iPhone 3GS + iOS4 and they all work 100% of the time,
So I'm expecting this to be an issue with iOS5.
Has anyone found definite solution to this?
As a side note, I've observed this since iOS3, if you plug the dock cable while talking on BT headset (mine is a Jawbone), music plays through the headset, mixed with the voice of the person I'm talking to.
Would be nice if they can fix this too.

I have the same problem in 2010 BMW 528i and iPhone 4S. I reduced how often this happens by turning off syncing of contact on the iphone. But it still happens daily. The audio is not diverted from the phone to the car.
Really, really hoping that this gets fixed with iOS 5 update soon.

  • Disabled docking audio on L412 & L512...

Apparently the 3-Series docking station audio-out port is disabled for use with L412 and L512 laptops. What's up with this ? One would assume that a current-run series of laptops would be compatible with such an essential accessory. Will there be a compatible dock produced in the near future, or do L-series owners just need to suck it up ?

    Hello Santoku,
i'm sorry, but i think you have to live with it...
As described on the Lenovo Website, and also pointed out in the Options Compatibility Matrix, the Audio ports are disabled when in use with the L412 and L512 Series.
    Notes:
        * ThinkPad L412, L512: ThinkPad Mini Dock Series 3 dock audio ports are inactive, ThinkPad audio ports are active.

The good news is, that the L420 and L520 are fully compatible with the docking station.

  • IOS 5.1 audio drop outs - bring back my music!

I was in the car listening to iTunes via Bluetooth and later via an iPhone dock connector to stereo cable.  On both occasions iTunes also dropped all audio the first time another app made any noise.  For example, I'm listening to music and then my GPS app tells me the next turn, as soon as she finishes talking the music audio drops out. The next time she tells me to turn I hear my music playing in the background, but it drops as soon as she stops speaking again.  If I turn off Bluetooth, then force a connection back to my stereo the music works until another sound happens, even the beep of a new email will cause the audio to be lost.
As I sit here and type this I could hear the clatter of the keys, until a moment ago when I received an email (and got the email sound), now the keyboard is silent.
I just got another email (c'mon people, it's 6am on a Saturday!) and the keyboard sounds are now back.
My wake up alarm just sounded and my keyboard audio is gone again.
Didn't notice this until the iOS 5.1 update.  It definitely did not occur previously, as I used my iPhone for music driving cross country the week prior to the update.
    Thanks,
    Sean

  • IOS 8: Spoken audio or speech stops before end of the file

    Hi,
I try to use iTunes Match on my iPhone (iPhone 6 , iOS 8 latest version). Uploaded files like audio books or other spoken files stop about 30 seconds before the file ends. Unfortunately I can't fix the problem. What can I do?
It's the same playing the files from the cloud or playing them after downloading.
It's the same to third party player like écoute.app.
This problem doesn't arise with music files.
    Who can help me?

Well, in early iTunes Match days all worked fine with these files. This problem appears since itunes shows the german information "Bestimmung der Information zur unterbrechungsfreien Wiedergabe" (translate.google.de: "Determination of Information for Seamless playback").

  • I have a big problem with IOS 6 and audio bluetooth

My Radio Car Pioneer AVH-2400 BT dont work with bluetooth, no tag, no control, just possibility to play from iPhone. All the function is OK in IOS 5
    Nothing jn IOS 6 :-(
    Help!

I have an iPhone4 and a Pioneer AVH-P2400BT car unit.  I've upgraded to IOS 6.  The update (from what I've tried and what I can tell) is NOT reversible.
Here's what I've found happening between the iPhone & Pioneer for bluetooth streaming audio:
    1.  The track/artist info no longer displays.
    2.  The track skip buttons no longer function.
    3.  The pause/play button no longer functions.  It may SEEM like it does, but it simply mutes the audio, the content continues to play (silently) on the iPhone.
    4.  The content no longer resumes when the vehicle is started.
    5.  The content will pause when the vehicle is turned off, but a couple of seconds continue (silently) on the iPhone.
    6.  If content is paused by the vehicle being turned off, it will resume playing on the iPhone speakers following an incoming phone call, whether answered or not.  (This can be a little embarrassing, depending on the content of your prefferred podcasts! )

  • IOS music player audio gets paused when switching to AIR app

    Hi,
iOS default music player's audio gets paused automatically whenever I switch to an AIR app.  Is there a way to keep it playing?

I believe this issue occurs only between songs that iTunes has converted to a lower bitrate for you during transfer to your iOS device and songs that it has not done this for. Take this Between the Buried and Me album, for instance. I have marked all of the transitions that should have been gapless but probably aren't in red. I know for sure that most of these marked transitions are indeed broken and that the most of the transitions not marked in red work flawlessly... I honestly can't remember whether or not some of these transitions were gapless or not, but the many transitions I do remember working or not working match up exactly with whether or not the songs on either side of the transition were also on other sides of the 256kbps threshold, the threshold at which I enabled iTunes to convert tracks to 256kbps AAC.
I'm going to try re-sync'ing my library with that "feature" disabled and see if it fixes my gapless playback problem. Will post the results once I test it out.

  • Can iphone5 w iOS 7 take audio dictations?

I've Googled, asked Siri, and am on hold w AppleCare who is a bit baffled...
Can iPhone 5 with iOS 7 do any/all of these:
    1. Do a simple audio dictation, store as a MP3) that I can play back later?
(I'm thinking if not, a workaround could be to use the video recorder, but hope
This is built in so I don't have to buy a 3rd party app.
    2. A way to create a Reminder (like: "walk the dog") and have the iPhone or Siri speak
"walk the dog" at the designated time set instead of just getting a generic audio alert?
This would be great so you'd know instantly what you need to do w/out having to look at iPhone to READ
what the alert is for especially if you're not close to the phone at the time the Reminder goes off.
Note: I know I can have the iPhone speak via Accessibility but then EVERYTHING speaks which becomes
    overwhelming.
If 3rd party apps are the solution, I'd love to hear about any rave reviews and which to purchase.

Yes, use the Voice Memos app (it is built in).

No, not with any native iOS function. There very well may be apps that will do this, but I don't know of any first hand. Check the app store.

  • Since iOS 5 no audio in recorder

Since I've updated to iOS 5 on my iPad 2 the audio recorder using the onboard mics doesn't register any audio. I looked through all the settings for a mic gain slider or something and found nothing. Is anyone else having this issue?? I saw a similar issue on the boards but not related to iOS 5.

Same here boys, think Apple need to "hear" about this one, only I'm talking about the iPhone4.  What's the way to go about talking to someone about this??!  I quite literally use my iphone every day with video, and since my update yesterday, no sound...

  • IOS 7 stereo audio malfunction

Watching a movie on Netflix app, left stereo audio suddenly diminishes noticeably. Problem persists after closing Netflix and opening iTunes and other apps. General>Reset>Reset All Settings corrects problem temporarily: stereo audio works properly. Problem recurs after watching movie on Netflix app for about 30 minutes. I have duplicated this malfunction 4 times, it is clearly not hardware related. Seems as long as I avoid the Netflix app audio works fine. Is this a Netflix problem or an iOS 7 issue? If Netflix is causing the malfunction, why does it persist even after closing Netflix and opening iTunes?

I have problems with bluetooth too, I can pair but sudenly the stereo freez !  The problem is with IOS7 only, I tried with ios6 and no problems. Maybe your stereo as well as mine and many others need firmware update. That´s why I am requesting to Renault to fix the problem.

  • IOS 7 background audio?

I would like to get some guidance from the AIR team.
I need to know if it is possible to play audio when my app is pushed to the background or when the screen is locked by pressing the power button. My app streams audio from Adobe Media Server 5 using HLS. It relies on StageVideo and Direct mode to support HLS streaming through the Netstream class.
This issue seems to have been dealt with in the bugbase as well as here in the AIR forum. My impression is that the app should be able to play, but I have not been able to get it to play in the background. I would be happy to provide the source code and description file to the air team.
I use Flash Builder 4.7, Apache Flex 4.12, and AIR SDK 13.
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi,
Can you please share the sample app with source code, swf, app-xml and assets with me at [email protected] with which bug is reproducible?

  • IOS 6 background audio bug

Anyone else find that when trying to play audio in the background From any browser it won't work such as when playing a YouTube video and them wanting to go on Facebook and have the audio playing in the background it just will not work, anyone know a fix for this?

A workaround is available - once you initiate the playback from YouTube, hit Lock button, not the home button. Then bring up the lock screen's playback controls by hitting the Home button twice. Tap play and it should playback.
One thing - if you let the playback complete, you won't be able to playback again. You must bring up the safari again and go thru the above process. I think we have this problem because the quicktime player will automaticaly exit after playing the entire YouTube clip, which was the case only when you have it active on the foreground pre 6.1. Now it seems like even in the background, it will close the player after letting it play till the end. To prevent that, just tap the rewind button at the lock screen playback controls before the clip finishes.

  • Yosemite/iOS 8 - Airplay audio working from iPhone 6 but not from macbook

I have a 2012 macbook pro that I've just upgraded to Yosemite and a new iPhone 6. My airplay setup is a Pioneer VSX-1121 receiver that has built-in airplay. My iPhone can connect via airplay to the receiver and it works perfectly to play all my audio. My laptop however, cannot. When I use option-click to click on the speaker icon in the bar I even see the icon for my receiver there - but when I click on it nothing happens.
In the System Preferences I can't see it in the sound panel though...
Here is the output of Console when I attempt to connect to the speakers:

I don't have any logs of a successful attempt so I'm not sure what that looks like in Yosemite..any help appreciated.
For the record, I've tried a PRAM and SMC reset to no avail.

THis "fix" maybe for the missing AirPlay icon in iTunes. But it wouldn't hurt to try it for this issue. I had the missing icon, did this and it worked. I also re enabled the IPv6 and it continued to work.
    1) open control panel.
    2)Choose Network and internet
3)Select the VIEW NETWORK STATUS TASKS under NETWORK and SHARING CENTER section
    4) Choose the active network connection. It is usually name " wireless Network Connection 1" or something similiar.
    5) Click the properties button
    6) If the Internet PROTOCOL VERSION 6(TCP/IPv6) is checked, uncheck it, then click OK.
    7) Click CLOSE
    8) Restart iTunes and try to use the Home Sharing feature again.
