3g iPad in Spain

Question

Hi,
I'm travelling to Spain next weeks, expecting to be there for a couple of months. Does anyone know the best way to set up 3G access on my iPad whilst I'm there?
Points to note:
. Roaming charges too expensive, so using a UK contract/tariff is not an option.
. I won't have iTunes during setup, so must be possible fro. iPad alone.
. I do have a Spanish bank account, so setting up payment details etc. shouldn't be a problem.
As far as I'm aware, Movistar, Orange, and Vodafone offer iPad tariffs.
Has anyone set up an iPad on one of these carriers? If so:
. Is it possible without iTunes?
. What is the monthly cost, and how much notice required to cannel?
. Was the micro-SIM activated instore, or by telephone?
Fingers crossed, it should be possible to establish a connection for two months only, at a price comparable to that in the UK, and configured on the iPad itself under settings.
All helpful advice gratefully received.

Dear Phil and All,
I feel compelled to tell you how I solved my problem. Just as a reminder: I got a brand new iPad and had ordered it with the microSIM from Vodafone Spain. Once I received the iPad, I followed the instructions, registered for the Vodafone service but nothing worked.
I thought that I did something wrong, had an issue with my credit card, wrong settings with the iPad and all... well, as it turns out it is just the usual incompetence and indifference of the service providers and their employees in Spain. Of course I hereby exclude the really few, really nice, helpful and knowledgable employees. I hope the following account helps somebody else:
It turns out that there is a difference even within Vodafone between "online" and "shop". I.e. if you register online and it doesn't work, the shop employees cannot easily help you and visa versa. Talking to people in a shop, the first response was that it is easy to explain why it doesn't work: You have a microSIM and not a normal SIM... Another suggestion was to try another SIM from my mobile phone. Also, they continuously asked me about the phone number in order to access my data. Needless to say that there is no phone number for the data only card (well, read to the end, actually there is one, but only after successful activation), there are card numbers etc, but they don't care to check anything besides a phone number. So this is useless. To make a long story short, I went to the Vodafone story in Barcelona Av. Diagonal and was lucky. I got a new microSIM, the employee activated it on the spot, and yes, I got assigned an artificial phone number for future reference... I didn't have any problems since... So, I am not sure if it helps you, but I bet that nearly 90 % of problems are related to employees lack of training and incompetence...
