3G iPad -- is it worth it?

Does anyone anticipate 3G being faster on iPad than on iPhone? I find it hard to gauge how the 3G will feel in practice. The WIFI is plenty fast, but 3G on the iPhone (in my area) is not swift, so I'm wondering if there are advantages to the iPad over the iPhone that would make 3G faster on the Pad?

This is my opinion only. I will NOT pay for data services twice to AT&T through my iPhone and iPad. Because it's clear that the iPhone will never be allowed to tether to the iPad (quoting Steve Jobs during the launch of the iPad), and AT&T has done nothing to give us tethering to our laptops, the 3G version is a ripoff.
Moreover, I have Boingo on my iPad, so I have thousands upon thousands of choices for WiFi. In fact, I can get WiFi in areas that lack 3G from AT&T.

  • If you have an older iPad is it worth the money to get a new one?

I have the IPAD 2 and i was just wondering if one of the newer iPads was worth getting.

Do you use your iPad? Or does it sit there, ignored most of the time? Do you look for new games and apps and run into ones that aren't running so well?
Do you want to keep your apps updated? (eventually, whenever iOS9 comes out there will start to be apps with limited to no backwards compatibility)
I'm guessing that your 2 is running fine. Do you have the money and inclination to upgrade now? Or do you want to wait until your 2 dies?
Is your iPad something you plan to keep using? Or is it something you find sitting there for days on end?

  • Buying used Ipad 2 still worth it

    Hello everyone,
I am a Mac user for about a year now and really like the concept of the Apple ecosystem. Recently, a friend offered me his Ipad 2 (16gb) for 150€ and I am considering to buy it, but I'm not sure yet. Maybe you can help me with that.
I'm planning on getting an Ipad for quite a while now, and I want to use it for simple surfing in the internet, reading e-books, managing my media library and Evernote and watch movies occasionally. Will the Ipad 2 enable me to have a fluent experience with all that, considering that iOS 8.1 was just released. I also want to see if a tablet is the right thing for me and if this should be the case, I'd probably sell the Ipad 2 again after a few months and use the money to buy a new one. At least that would be my plan.
Do you have any input on my case? I'd be very thankful.
    Regards,
    Cheagor

In terms of your question of performance ... well, generally speaking it's a bad idea to get a product when it's nearing its "end of life" and certainly the iPad 2 is. If you want to get as much of your money back as possible in a resale, you're not going to do well with it nearing end of life. At the moment Apple does say it will no longer let the iPad 2 update to the next level of the iOS, the value is going to drop.
I would generally buy one or two generations back (an iPad 4 for example) and get one that can get an AppleCare plan, and resell it prior to the expiration of the plan (say about six months prior). I think you'll do a lot better, money-wise that way.

  • Is the iPad 3 faster than the iPad 2?

    Hi,
Is the iPad 3 faster than the iPad 2? Also, how much better resolution is the iPad 3 from the iPad 2? I was just wondering because I heard that the new iPad isn't worth it's price.

The New iPad is not remarkably faster, but does have a faster chip, which is required to handle the amazing Retina display.  The new display on New iPad is without question significatly better than iPad 2 and offers nearly 4 times the resolution of iPad 2.  Whether it's important to you, only you can know.  To see the difference, go to an Apple store where they still sell iPad 2 and New iPad.  For me, the difference was night and day, which is why I sold my iPad 2 and upgraded to New iPad.

  • Issue with iPad air trade in promotion.

I went to the Rego Park NYC Bestbuy store (Store 483) today and tried to trade in my iPad 4 32GB wifi because of this promotion.
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/promo/trade-in-offer-129347?ref=199&loc=iH2PRtf/I7g&acampID=1&siteID=iH2...
The girl from customer service did not know anything about it so I asked for a manager. The manager knew about the promtion and took my iPad. She offered me $246 in gift card but she said that I will not receive the $50 trade in coupon toward a new iPad Air 2 purchase. I aruged briefly with her but she insisted that was how it works because the promotion can only guarantee a minimum trade in value of $200 and since my iPad 4 has a trade in value of $246,  it will not be considered as an eligible tablet.  Could someone from Bestbuy explain how this promotion really work? Because it doesn't make sense at all if i do not get both the gift card and the $50 coupon. I read about this promotion from various forums and lots of people getting both the gift card and the coupon.

    Hello TommyLai,
I have to say I’m rather bummed that I don’t have an older iPad model to trade in. With the gift card and coupon provided with this offer, you could potentially get a new iPad Air or mini at half price (or close to it)! I’m disappointed to hear that our Rego Park location wasn’t quite up to speed with the promotion though, leaving you absolutely confused and without a cool new iPad. I’m truly sorry for this oversight.
According to our Trade in and Trade up promotion, you should have received either a $175.00 or $200.00 gift card for your trade in. Because your iPad 4 was worth more than those amounts, you were correctly offered more than the guaranteed minimum. This shouldn’t have disqualified you from receiving the coupon though. As long as you were intending to purchase the item listed on the coupon, it should have been provided with your trade-in receipt.
I’d like out to local leadership at our Rego Park location and provide them with the necessary details about this promotion. However, I’m unable to locate your Best Buy account, and I’d like to provide them with as many details as possible for further reference. Please know that I’ve sent you a private message to collect some information. You may view it by logging into the forum and clicking on the envelope in the upper right-hand corner of your screen.

  • IOS 5.1 for iPad

Has anybody done iOS 5.1 on iPad 2? Worth it? Got a MSG today about it.

Many users, including myself, have upgraded to iOS 5.1 and are quite pleased. That said, I tend to be an advocate of the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" school of thought, so if your iPad is working without problems now and there's no compelling reason for you to upgrade - no new apps you want to run or new features of iOS 5 you crave - then there's probably little urgency for you to upgrade.
    Regards.

  • Will the new IPad display PDFs quicker?

I use my IPad 1 to follow musical scores that I have downloaded (legally) in PDF. Some complex scores with a large number of instruments can take several seconds to refresh the screen after changing pages. I have compared this against an IPad 2 and it was slightly quicker but not enough to warrant an upgrade. The question is will the increased graphics power of the new IPad offer quicker page loading than an IPad 2 or is the page updating down to the CPU? If the latter the new IPad does not offer any advantages.

Ralph thanks for the reply. I tried Goddreader and it was faster but not fast enough.
From what I've read the iPad3 has a faster GPU but has the same processor so my question really revolves on whether the slow page update is caused by the page re-drawing which is more GPU dependent. I would have thought it was and so a new iPad may be worth a try.

  • Lightroom and iPad

I have been experimenting with the iPad as a photo storage device.  I have a couple of questions regarding LR.
First, my impression is that if you transfer DNG files into LR through the sync process, you lose all your LR edits.  In others words, the photo that is displayed is the original from out of the camera.  Is this correct?
Second, if you transfer the file to the iPad through the sync process, is the file that is stored on the iPad the DNG file, or does the internal processing convert the file to something else, like a compressed jpeg?
Anybody who has other experiences or observations with the iPad that are worth sharing, please do so.
    Thanks
    Jack Siegel

I don't use DNG but when I imported some photos to the iPad (mostly JPEGS and one
Olympus RAW) it displayed them all fine but as you say, the RAW was displayed without any
    adjustments.
But if I export photos from LR to a folder (say "iPad Photos") and then tell iTunes to sync with that photo, then all the shots have my LR edits.
What I want to know is when they release the camera USB attachment and the card reader, when you import RAW directly from the camera, will the iPad display the unedited RAW file or the embedded JPEG.
As far as how it is stored - that is anybody's guess because even with the iPad attached to computer, you can't access the file structure on the internal memory.

  • No intel, unable to upgrade iTunes to 10.7, unable to use iPad

I want to inport some photos from iPhoto onto my iPad but I cannot use iTunes because I don't have the intel chip and connot upgrade to iTunes 10.7 which is what the iPad requires. Any suggestions?

Upload the photos to Dropbox from your computer, and then
connect to your Dropbox account using your iPad might be
    worth a try.
Email the photos to yourself and open the emails on your iPad
    might be another way.

  • Ipad 2 not connecting to any wi-fi

So, I've had my ipad 2 since early 2013 and early this year, it stopped connecting to ANY wifi, not just the one at home. I took it to the Apple store only to be told that it would cost some ridiculous amount to fix it so I would be better off getting a new one. After that, I just kinda put it aside but now, I need it. I've tried everything; reset the network settings, restore and update (8.1) the Ipad, reset my router, even had the wifi antenna changed and still, it wont connect. It just keeps telling me "Unable to connect..."
I have no idea what else to do and i'm about 2 seconds away from throwing it against the wall (bad temper). It's the wifi version so without connecting to anything, it's just a $350 piece of crap

your iPad isn't worth bothering with. the iPad 2 is very outdated. i know you might not understand but what Apple does is they keep around older models as a cheaper option. I know you just got it but the device itself was released over 3 years ago. In terms of mobile devices, that is extremely old. i would go and get the iPad Air 2

  • MonoTouch vs Objective-C for iPhone/iPod/iPad development [closed]

For someone with .Net experience and wanting to develop for iPhone/iPod/iPad, is it worth learning Objective-C? Is MonoTouch a good alternative? What are some of the trade-offs when using MonoTouch vs coding in Objective-C?

Most of the information you've suggested there would be found in the source repository.
The only thing you really need is the purpose section, which says what the class is there for.
Would it be tedious to look in repository every time you want to know the other information? I'd say no. How often do you care who the original author was? Or when the file was first created? Plugins (such as Ankh SVN for Visual Studio) often allow you to right
click within your current file and view the repoistory log for the file, so it's not that much of a hassle to actually see this information.
Additionally, if you store the version history in a comment, this comment needs to be maintained. So over time there's a chance it could be lying to you. The source code repository automatically keeps this historical data, so doesn't need that maintenance,
    and will be accurate.

  • Is the ipad 2 good for gaming?

Right now I have a nexus 7 2013 which I'm about to sell would I be downgrading if I were to go to a iPad 2? I heard that all games in the apple store run on all iOS devices I thought this was sweet cuz there are like very few games the work on android is the iPad 2 still worth getting and are there any issues with it?

    So the iPad 2 *****?

I'm in a quandary.  I've had a nook color to use for a while, and I've had a blackberry tablet offered me.  Why should I consider an iPad?

Who said you need to consider an iPad?
If the nook and Blackberry tablet suit your needs (which you haven't mentioned) stick with them.
One of the main advantages of the iPad is the amount of apps and media available for them. Also the huge support from third-party accessory providers.
But unless we know what you're using these devices for, we can't really say why an iPad might be worth considering.

  • Which cover is better whether smart cover or smart case

which cover is better whether smart cover or smart case

It is really a choice to personal preference.
The Smart Cover provides some protection for the front of the device but no side/back protected. However, the Smart Cover is much more easier to use in my opinion and makes the device feel better.
The Smart Case provides all around protection for your iPad and is worth getting. It is not as tough as some of the crazy cases out their that like protect from 100ft drops lol.
So, just go to the Apple store and talk to a representative and he/she will help you out!

  • Syncing photos seems to over write all folders

I am using iTunes 10. When I sync my photos in iTunes from several folders everything looks like it synced ok but when I open my photos app to look at the photos it contains only one of the folders as an album. If I try to sync using another folder with photos it will delete the photos already synced and then the last folder synced is the only one there.

I also discovered something else. When I was trying to delete the photos that are already on the ipad using the delete button Nothing happens. So I was looking at an apple article about transfering photos from the ipad to your PC. The article mentions that an autoplay window should pop up when the device is connected. When I followed the directions to turn this feature on automatically in the control panel under >hardware>autoplay the device (ipad is not listed). I'm wondering if the Ipad is really worth having..... This is the article I am talking about http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083. Someone from apple should get involved here.
