3G iPhone firmware 2.2.1 (5H11) - 02 User In UK

Hi 3G iPhone Users,
Has anyone else noticed that with the most recent firmware update of 2.2.1 it has caused the iPhone Google Maps to use only Km. I have tried everything to switch it back to Miles (Imperial) - but to no avail. I contacted 02 support today and they said it is due to the most recent firmware update.
One person in the tech support division of 02 had an older firmware version on his iphone - he could get the distance in miles. The other people with 2.2.1 - could only get Km.
Apple - can you please address this? Your clients in the UK would likely appreciate Miles. Not sure what is happening with your clientele in the United States - it goes without saying, they probably prefer miles as well!
Thanks
3G Ginger Six String

Yes, this happened with a recent firmware update. US distances in Maps still show in miles, and if you change Settings > General > International > Region Format to United States, they will show up in miles for you as well (although your date and phone number formats will also be affected).
FYI, though, "we" are not Apple - this is a user-to-user forum.

  • Update to iOS 5.1 causes iPhone to crash on "Restoring iPhone Firmware"

    Hello everyone.
I have been vry please with my iPhone 4 on Verizon for the last 6 months.  I was on iOS 5 which worked great.  Then this morning the AppStore icon had the familiar red circle indicating some apps had updates available.  I clicked Update All.  In there was an update for iOS5.1.  I clicked OK.
I gave me the usual License agreement etc… I clicked OK.
A few minutes later I looked at it and it showed a picture of a cable with an arrow towards an iTunes icon.  SO I plugged it to my computer and it launched iTunes.
iTunes tells me that my iPhone is in Recovery mode and I need to Restore.  Why is it in Recovery mode???  All I did was I clicked OK for software update!
I have no other choice but to click Restore.  It asks if I want to Restore and Update.  I click OK.
I downloads the software (25 minutes worth!!!) then goes through the motions.
    - Restoring iPhone software
    - Verify iPhone software
    - Verify iPhone Restore
    - Restoring iPhone firmware.
After it sits on that Restoring firmware with a striped bar for about 30 seconds, all of a sudden, a new window pops up and says "The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored.  An unknown error occurred (1)."
iMac 2.4G 24inch .  OS 10.6.8  All my software is up to date as of this morning.  That includes the most recent iTunes.
Nothing else is plugged in the USB ports.
    I have restarted the computer.
No third party firmware.  No illegal mods.  No jailbreaking or anything, all on the up and up.
I have called Apple tech support but was put on hold for 30 minutes and finally had to go to work.
I have done a search on this and other boards but could not find a solution.  Would anyone have any suggestion?
    Thanks for any help.
    Bo

    UPDATE:
I tried about 6 or 7 times with no luck.  Maybe trying even more would have worked as Milis and some others have said.  But I ran out of patience.
So I called Apple tech support.  After a few minutes a woman answered, I explained the problem, she said that since it was out of warranty, it would cost $29 for a one time incident.  I said that since I did not initiate this problem I did not think I should have to pay for anything.  Then she put me on hold, and evidently sent me to the slow cue.  I waited for about 20 or so minutes and another woman answered.  She was very friendly and tried to be helpful but this was clearly out of her league so she transferred me to a specialist.  A very friendly british sounding woman came on and really wanted to get to the bottom of this.  She did a remote access to my computer so she could see the contents of the log files.  After a while, she determined that it could not be repaired.  She told me the phone had to be replaced.
So she filled out a request to that effect, gave me the location of the nearest Apple store and made an appointment for me.  I went there during lunch and they replaced my phone with a new (or new looking at least) unit.  They set it up and now everything is fine.  It is still on iOS5 but I really don't have any pressing need for iOS5.1 so, given this previous experience, I'm going to stay with 5 for a while.
Bottom line is that this was a real pain and huge waste of time.  But Apple support did come through without any trouble (apart from the waiting on hold) and got things fixed and working again.  The people I talked to did not have any idea of what might have caused this.  But one thing I was remember is this:  Usually I always do iOS updates through iTunes with the iPhone connected to the computer.  This was the first time that the update was started with the phone unconnected because it came about through the "Updates" panel of the phone's AppStore icon.  I'm not sure why this would cause the firmware update to go south but that is the only thing I can think of.
At the end of the day, I think I have to put that in the "You want cutting edge technology? well it's going to work most of the time but every now and then there will be the inevitable pothole" column.

I have run network connectivity tests from iTunes and All Tests passed.
    Can anyone help?
    Thank you,

Did you make sure it was the exact file for your device and the latest version? I just downloaded the latest file for my iPhone4, put it in the folder I mentioned above and it ran the install versus downloading the file. This problem where it times out after downloading is a big Bug within iTunes that has been there ever since IOS 7.0 was released. I wished these apple developers would just fix iTunes. There are a ton of complaints about this issue. I sure miss Steve Jobs running this business, I really feel like it's gone down hill after he left.
    I hope this helps!
    Regards.

So basically, I was updating my phone to iOS 4.0 and all was going smoothly until now. It has been stuck on "Restoring iPhone firmware..." for the past hour and a half. My phone had turned off and I searched around and was told to turn it back on again, but still nothing has happened. My phone says plug into iTunes, but it already is. Can anyone help me?

alright guys i just got mine to work. im on a mac, i signed into a different user name, i downloaded a fresh copy of itunes from apple, and it all worked.

    steps for working
    1. restart computer
    2. log into a new user name/ or try your normal one, new user name worked for me
    3. download fresh itunes 9.2 from APPLE.

Put your phone in DFU mode,
Hold the Power Button (3 secs)
Continue holding the power button and also hold the home button (15 secs)
Release the power button while continuing to hold the home button (10 secs)
Your device should prompt with the "Connect to iTunes Screen"
    Restore.

  • TS3681 I have tried restoring my I-phone at least a dozen time and it keeps freezing at the Restoring Iphone Firmware step.. It has now discovers IOS7.1 so I thought it would pregress right through but stuck for 4 hours on restoring Iphone firmware?

I have tried restoring my I-phone at least a dozen time and it keeps freezing at the Restoring Iphone Firmware step.. I had not been using this phone since October as I updated to the 5c and have had my kids using this for games.. About a month ago I thought it would be useful to update the IOS after I had updates the 5c but this crashed and it has not worked since..
I have reinstalled Itunes - I have just updated again now that IOS7.1 has come thought and I though I may be there as each step of the restore seemed to be working and the line under the apple logo was progressing. However it has now has now been stuck for 4 hours on restoring Iphone firmware?

After 4 hours of frozen screen is came up with an error message - Error (3)...Any solutions??

after upgrading my iphone firmware i'm unable to activate via wifi and is not able to recognise my sim card

Try a reset: hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until the screen goes black and you see the Apple, then let go. (No data loss)

  • NEVER uprade the iPhone Firmware while Parallels is running!

Just that no one else makes this mistake. When Parallels Desktop is running a Windows-VM and you are updating your iPhone Firmware, after the reboot, parallels Windows XP will find a new hardware (your iPhone) and iTunes will report an error which will crash the update.
Only solution is to return to factory defaults.

Yup, same problem on a 4s on iOS 7, but it happens with every music/audio app I've tried, not just 3rd party apps. The play/pause/skip controls become unresponsive for me on the lock screen, control center, and it affects the same controls on Bluetooth devices (my car and a wireless speaker). Restarting the phone seems to make them work again briefly but the problem keeps returning. All these scenarios worked fine before I upgraded to iOS 7. I hope it's fixed soon.

  • Determining iPhone firmware by serial number?

Hi, I heard that I could find out which iPhone firmware my family’s iPhones are on, by interpreting the serial number?
If anyone knows which part of the serial number divulges this information, it would be very much appreciated as I’d like to know the firmware before visiting, when I’ll be helping them activate the iPhones and sort out the contracts etc.
    Thanks.

the serial number will tell you somthing about when the phone was made - i foget the pattern but there is a posting about this in the archives
its very simple to determe the modem firmware version

  • HT1414 Restore stops at "Restoring iPhone firmware"  for hours??

Restore stops at "Restoring iPhone firmware"  for hours??

iTunes will first of all download current iOS 6.1.3 firmware which is about 0.94 GB for your iPhone.
It will take time depending on your net connection speed.
