my guess hd failure??
day 5: connect to G5 @ work > recognizes > restore > ok!

day 6: suggestions anyone
3g ipod (dock connector)

@ b noir
after reformatting on a mac, i did manage to get back to pc, after a few more blue screens i reinstalled itunes 4.0.1 from the original cd
and started reformatting for windows,
while still in the process of formatting, i got the blue screen again, but.. i didn't write down the numbers...since i hadn't read your post yet...
anyway...
i hooked it up and itunes recognized it...i could copy a few songs to the ipod...without a blue screen...
i decided to reinstall itunes 7.0.1.8 ... restored my original library...
connected the ipod... copied one, then two , then a hundred songs to the ipod... seems to be working fine now...
if you ask me...
there is a spot on the hd wich is damaged, and as long as the ipod doesn't use that spot nothing happens...
since i didn't upgrade any firmware that could've chaged something
(it was 2.3 and still is after all the restoring, reformatting, switching to macformatted and back...)
also after upgrading to 7.0.1.8 the ipod worked a few days before starting to get 'blue screenish'....
tnx for trying to help anyway

  • Xcode 3.2.1 and ipod touch with firmware 3.1.2

    Hi,
Recently my first application was approved.
I wanted to start testing my app also on ipod touch. I bought an ipod touch with firmware 3.1.2 (7D11).
I had to upgrade my OS to 10.6 (snow leopard) and i also downloaded the Xcode 3.2.1 .
My problem is that my ipod is not supported. I've created the proper certification and there's a green light next to my ipod icon in the organizer window in xcode.
The message i see is : Xcode cannot find the software image to install this version (and the "restore ipod" icon is grayed out).
    What do i do ?
    Thanks.

    Ooops.. sorry. my bad.
    provisioning profile problem.
    sorry.

  • Trouble with Safari - it keeps shutting down - all because I tried to get rid of MacKeeper

trouble with Safari - it keeps shutting down - all because I tried to get rid of MacKeeper ad - after I install what I thought was an update since I already had MacKeeper, it would not allow me to continue without buying the new one. Make a long story short I switch to Firefox and deleted as much as I could of Safari (files, preferences etc) Now I'm at OS Yosemite X 10.10.2 and would like to get Safari up and running again - I've searched for Adware in applications etc but could not find it. Found what to do from the community, but before I go that route...Do I have to know where or if I actually have this spyware?    And if I were to reinstall  Maveric - would my files and such be undisturbed?  so that only Safari would be replaced?    I"M LOST .... (as if you couldn't tell)
I've been working with Mac for 30 years or more and although I'm hands on taught the only thing I lack is the newer "buzz words" so if you can help me out - please make it simple ??  thanks

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
You may have installed one or more of the common types of ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it. It's been reported that some variants of the "VSearch" malware block access to the page. If that happens, start in safe mode by holding down the shift key at the startup chime, then try again.
Back up all data before making any changes.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those. If Safari crashes on launch, skip that step and come back to it after you've done everything else.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, ask for further instructions.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. It may have come from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
Malware is also found on websites that traffic in pirated content such as video. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
    or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
    if it's not already checked.

  • I have MacBook Pro and whenever I start Aperature 3 it stays on for about 5 minutes then it shuts down with an error of shutting down unexpected... anything??

Hello, I have MacBook Pro and whenever I start Aperature 3 it stays on for about 5 minutes then it shuts down with an error of shutting down unexpected... anything??
Also does anyone know how to take something from one picture and add it to another in aperature?
    Thank you!!!

I had the exact same problem. Here is what an Apple Support person told me to do - and it worked like a charm!
Go to your APPLICATIONS Folder. Find a folder within that folder called TOOLBARS. Remove the ENTIRE folder. Once you remove that folder, your Aperture should work perfectly.
There is something in that folder that you don't need that messes with Aperture. Try it. Mine worked perfectly!

OS X installers have always been fairly specific, hardware-wise. I haven't read anything reflecting that situation with the Recovery HD, so it may be that the Recovery HD created for the MacBook Pro does not have the necessary drivers for the Mac Pro. Obviously, nothing definitive here, but a possibility.

That's a hardware problem.  Only Apple can help you.

  • Very long blue screen with spinning sprocket at shut down

When I shut down my Mac Mini, after everything closes properly I get a blue screen with a spinning sprocket for a very long time. I end up having to power down and restart. It happens most of the time, interupted with an occasional proper shut down.
Any ideas on what this means?
    Thanks for your time.
    Kevin

Check Console in Utilities for messages from around the time of the shutdown. Check system.log expecially, but look around at some of the other logs as well. Also, try booting in Verbose Mode, CMD-V at startup. This will scroll text of the bootup sequence before it goes to the regular screen, but the next time you shutdown, it might scroll text of the shutdown sequence and give a clue as to what's going on there. Be ready with a camera or notepad to write down what you see.

  • IPod 4G keeps crashing, freezing and shutting down randomly

I think since the IOS7 update, my Ipod keeps on skipping songs, freezing on apps, crashing on apps and sometimes
shutting down randomly. I have tried deleting from multitask, and shutting down (which only works for like 10 mins).
How can I fix this? And repair is too expensive.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

Ipod nano black 4gb   Windows XP

Difficult to say. It would depend on what is the issue with the iPod. Cable, firmware, iPod software, etc.
But be aware if you chose to do a restore to any machine other than the one you originally started with the iPod will end up being erased and the contents will be gone.

  • IPlanet 6.1-SP6 auto re-starting with Child admin thread shutting down

We are running the same application everywhere without any issues. Just migrated to new machine/environment and whenever the client (browser) tries to acess a JSP, the web-server automatically re-starts itself with message Child admin thread is shutting down.

Any help will be highly appreciated.

  • Why my 2009 desktop with OS Maverick keep shutting down by itself

Why my 2009 desktop using OS Maverick keep shutting down by itself?

When it shuts down, the screen blanks (more like turns grey, like the color of the background when on the log in screen). It reboots immediately, so at first the problem was presumed to be restarting, not shutting down and powering back on. The computer is usually very warm, and definitely gets hot easily. A test was run determine when the fan would turn on to start cooling the computer by running digits of Pi, and the tester concluded it was too close within the safe temperatures before it would permanently affect the computer. (I believe this was within 5ºF, but I am not 100% sure.) The times when it will turn off and reboot do not seem coorelated with much if anything. It has done this at multiple times, among running varying amounts of programs and for different lengths of time: right after logging into the user, within a minute of after it has turned off and rebooted, within 5 minutes, 10, 30, even 60 minutes of turning off and rebooting, when only running one program such as Firefox, when running various programs such as Firefox, iTunes, Microsoft Word, Sticky Notes....
    Basically, it makes no sense.

  • Lenovo x220 tablet pc with ubuntu 12.04 Shuts down and starts up unexpectedly

    Hi
I bought a lenovo x220 tablet pc and installed ubuntu 12.04 with GNOME 3 a while ago.
It was working fine at first however recently:
    1. the computer shutsdown unexpectedly, the shutdown dialog appears (the one that gives you the option of restart, cancel, or shutdown); I try to cancel it however the laptop would just power down (without going through the proper shutdown routine). Once it powers down it would try to reboot on its own but halfway during the reboot it would power down again.
    2. At times when I do shutdown normally, I would just close the lid and the computer would start back up again, without my pressing the power button (just moving the monitor makes the computer startup)
In addition I dropped the computer on the battery side at one time and cracked the plastic casing a little. The above mentioned problems still exists when I use the laptop without the battery.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to go about finding out what's wrong and how to fix it.
Thanks in advance for the help.

    Hey mate,
sorry to here about that. Here may be a path to the clearing where a possible solution is waiting: Nowadays it is standard to let the pc (or more exactly the power manager of the OS) listen to the ACPI bus for messages like power button pressed and such things. If such a message surfaces and your power manager picks it up it is possible (if you have this configured as an action) that it shuts down you computer or restarts it. To eliminate this possibility you can try one of the following to things:
    1. stop your power manager from working
    2. get yourself superuser rights and use acpi_listen to listen to the acpi bus (if not working then install "acpid", shut down your power manager and start acpid as service)
    3. open your system log (e.g. /var/log/messages) and search for things connected to your power manager or acpi
Please tell me if it worked! If not you could also post the content of your system log for analysis.
    Using x230t (i5-3320M, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, 80GB mSata-SSD) and loving it!
