3g ipod battery question?

I was wondering how long my ipod battery should last, If I keep my backlight set for 2 seconds.
Also does the clicker affect the battery life?
And also what is the normal running time of a 3rd gen. 15gb iPod?
PC   Windows XP

I've been wondering the same. In the first few days of owning my iphone 3GS, I have kept it on, but I have noticed that my battery life is not what I was hoping it to be. I have just today realized that perhaps having the Nike+ turned on maybe the cause so I turned it off to see if I notice a difference...we'll see. An official answer on this would be ideal though.

Ok so i just got a 30gig video ipod. I started to charge it in my sister's laptop then noticed in the book that it said do not charge in a keyboard usb slot, so i freaked..pulled it out and charged it on my own computer, and it said it was fully charged after about 40 min. I know its supposed to take like 4 hours. Now my ipod runs out of battery life pretty quick (just listening to music..not videos) and i think its cause my first charge wasnt to the full extent. anyone have some advice as i am worried i have really screwed up.

  • Ipod battery question

i have had my ipod mini for less than 4 months. the battery life has gone down over time, which is normal, but it is now down to around 4 to 5 hours on average (i have it set to max battery settings). the expected life was supposed to be 18 hours for gen 2, or is this just normal battery wear. it has also frozen a couple times (2 times). i was reading the service form and it said i might have to pay up to $100 if it is determined my ipod doesnt need service. does anyone think it would be wise to send it in now or see if the battery goes down even further, because i dont want to pay the hundred bucks.

have you followed the tips and tricks for better battery life:

  • IPod battery charging

I've had my 5th Gen iPod for a month or so now and love it! However, I wanted to know what is the best way to keep the battery in optimum condition. The way I use my iPod at the moment is to run it during the day and then plug it into the Mac at night, so I have only ever used a little bit of the battery. Is it best to completely run the battery down between charges? Will 'micro charging' degrade the battery faster.
I ask this because the consensus of opinion with mobile phone batteries for example is to occasionally run them until completely flat and then fully recharge. Is this the same with the iPod battery?

Here's some essential reading on the iPod battery that will probably answer your questions. The "iPod battery unplugged" site is especially good.

  • IPod Battery Replacement Program

    Hi Everyone,
My green iPod mini is now in need of a new battery. I read over the Battery Replacement FAQ, but I'm not sure how the condition of the iPod mini I recieve will be. So I guess I have a few questions.
Has anyone participated in this program that has had success getting a good iPod back?
What do they do with my old iPod?
Do they test it when they get it to see if it needs a new battery?
What do they send with the iPod? Or is it just the iPod itself?
    Thanks,
    Brian

Personally, I wouldn't recommend sending it to Apple for an out of warranty battery replacement.
You can get a new battery and do it yourself for ~$20.
    Go to www.ipodjuice.com.
There are other places also. Google "iPod battery".
What do they do with my old iPod?
They repair it and use it as a replacement.
Do they test it when they get it to see if it needs a new battery?
    Yes.
What do they send with the iPod? Or is it just the iPod itself?
    Just the iPod.
They charge $$59, plus $6.95 shipping.
If the battery is good or the iPod is bad, they will return your iPod, refund the $59 and keep the shipping.

  • Has iPOD battery issue gone away?

Have two iPOD minis. Heard about a battery issue about a year ago, accompanied by a class action suit. Time to get at least another iPOD. Questions:
    1) Was that problem with inferior lithium batteries resolved by Apple? Is it okay to get another iPOD mini? And,
    2) Suggestions on purchasing an iPOD. We use them exclusively for music, nothing else. Would like to go with iPOD mini again, unless I hear otherwise from any of you.
    Thank you

1 - The Mini was not included in the lawsuit. The battery worked as advertised (within reason). Don't think it was (widely) published exactly what the cause/fix was.
2 - The iPod rocks. I recommend it. The Mini (the mot popular iPod ever) was discontinued in October last year. You can still purchase refurbished Minis at www.apple.com/store. They come with a standard one year warranty and you can purchase the Applecare Protection Pln for it as well.

  • Mini ipod battery issue

I have an old generation mini ipod. Despite the battery being charged full it cuts out and flashes up NO BATTERY POWER REMAINS. PLEASE CONNECT IPOD TO POWER. The battery icon flashes up with exclamation mark then completely shuts down. After leaving a few minutes eventually starts up but battery is empty. After leaving a further few minutes it eventually acknowleges a full battery and starts to work but then will shut down and repeat process.i then have to recharge via plug to get to work again.  I realise I have  a very old model ipod but can this be fixed without requiring a new battery?  Is this a common problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I have tried restarting but has not worked.

    Hello Paul
The batteries that are in iPods do not last forever, they typically last about 400 times of being charged up and depleted. Check out the articles below for more information about your batteries.  The second article will give more insight and answer to questions that you might have.

  • Classic Ipod Battery Issue

So I bought an Ipod Classic 80GB when I was in Fallujah mid 2007. First things first, no sand managed to get into the ipod casuing its epic failure. After about a year or so the Ipod started crapping out but wasnt a big deal at first. Little things like shutting off by itself, I thought maybe it was becuase I forgot to hit the hold button becuase I was always on a bike hittin jumps and maybe the jolt cuased a shutdown i never could figure it out. But then it got to where songs would be playing and the ipod paused itself and would freeze for an hour atleast. Then one day the Idud, I mean Ipod, just wouldnt work. Wouldnt charge, wouldnt turn on, wouldnt nothing! Only showed "please wait battery very low". So id plug it into the computer for the rest of the night and come back the next morning and still it would read "please wait battery very low". I was told the battery was most likely bad as the Ipod classic battery life expectancy isnt very long due to not being able to keep a charge.
Ipod was gonna get repaired until I saw the repair prices apple charges. I might wind up getting a new ipod but I dont want to lose the items I bought beucase its the only copy i have. All backup discs were misplaced...differnt story moving on. My Ipod holds a sentimental value and If I can get it repaired for a low cost and not risk losing the songs and videos I have stored then I'll get the friggin thing fixed.
QUESTION - Does it really cost nearly $200 to replace a battery ($59 on itunes replacment program, $159 for the repair) or did i just read the battery replacement page information wrong? Anyone know whether or not thats any repair on an Ipod or what Apple charges just to swap out a battery?

  • Speakers with Alarm and iPod Battery Life

    Hello everybody,
I am thinking to buy speakers with alarm for my wife's iPod video (30G). I have the following concern though. Since such kind of accessories charge iPod once I connect it, is it going to shorten the battery life due to frequent charging? Or is there any way to somehow disable charging if the battery is still OK?
    Thank you.

  • IPod battery help needed pleeeeeease!

    Hi
I did the battery test yesterday on my 30GB video as recommended. I let it play an album continually with no backlight what so ever and no equalizer. I don''t have the exact time that it took to run out but the last I checked was after 13 3/4hrs and it was still going but was deep in the red. It had add 2 accidental stoppages during this 4 about 2 mins. However I was pretty pleased with the results. I don't expect that they would have been much different with the backlight as this should have turned off after a few secs.
However I am getting pretty annoyed with the fact that just skipping about 4 songs begins to run down the battery. I haven't done a test of how long the battery will last with skipping a few songs and having the backlight, however, I have noticed significantly less than 14hrs if I do this. Is this meant to happen? And is anybody else thinking like that why didn't apple make a battery that would withstand peoples normal usage? Also does anybody know if the battery packs are any good and if they damage the internal battery?
    Pippa

Apple used the best battery technology that was
available and for the price. I have yet to just sit
and listen to my IPOD for 13 hours straight, 6 hours
maybe but not what the battery is rated at in terms
of hours. How the songs are encoded also affect how
long the battery lasts. No two batteries are going to
    give exactly the same results.
    A lithium-ion battery provides 300-500
discharge/charge cycles. The battery prefers a
partial rather than a full discharge. Frequent full
discharges should be avoided when possible. Instead,
charge the battery more often. There is no concern of
    memory when applying unscheduled charges.
Although lithium-ion is memory-free in terms of
performance deterioration, batteries with fuel gauges
exhibit what engineers refer to as "digital memory".
Here is the reason: Short discharges with subsequent
recharges do not provide the periodic calibration
needed to synchronize the fuel gauge with the
    battery's state-of-charge. A deliberate full
discharge and recharge every 30 charges corrects this
problem. Letting the battery run down to the cut-off
point in the IPOD will do this. If ignored, the fuel
gauge will become increasingly less accurate.
    Simple Guidelines:
Avoid frequent full discharges because this puts
additional strain on the battery. Several partial
discharges with frequent recharges are better for
lithium-ion than one deep one. Recharging a partially
charged lithium-ion does not cause harm because there
is no memory. (In this respect, lithium-ion differs
    from nickel-based batteries.)

  • Ipod battery display

first off, i have to say, this site ahs a horrible layout. (i know whoevers reading this probably cant do anything about it, but whatever)
i just updated my ipod software. i used to have a program that changed the ipod battery display to a numeric value (it was more accurate). i know that its a 3rd party application, but it worked fine before the update.
after the update, it said the numeric value was still on, but all it showed was the bar. i downloaded 2 other programs that did the same thing (all independent of each other), and they all told me the same thing.
Apparently this option was turned off in the update? if so, would you please either include this option in the next update or send me something to fix that please? i really like the numeric value. thank you in advance
    -Aramil

"its been nearly 2 weeks, and i have yet to recieve even the slightest reply"
You are completely misunderstanding the concept of these Discussion forums. They are provided by Apple so that users of their products can ask questions and receive advice from other users to help out with technical problems. No one from Apple responds to these posts.
You were using some third party (non authorized) program to hack the iPod, so it's a little unfair to blame Apple if it no longer works wouldn't you say? I don't know which program you were using, but very often when Apple updates the iPod software, these 3rd party programs need to be re written accordingly. Maybe you should ask the writer of this program what steps he/she has taken to ensure that the program works with the current iPod software?
I would take issue with the statement that the numeric display makes the meter more accurate. With the bar display your iPod is "guessing" about battery state and demand to draw the bar, so it will also "guess" which number to display. So even if it displays alleged battery capacity to six decimal places, while that looks all scientific and digital and more accurate, it is working from the same info as the silly black bar. It's just a cosmetic change.
However, if you want that numeric display, this is the place to ask for it.
