3G ipod jams after itunes 7 update

So i upgrade to itunes 7 which is quite nice i have to say. But as soon as I copy something to my ipod It starts "Determining Gapless Playback Information" which sound sweet, It sould now make all the tunes on my ipod gapless right? Well out of the 4500 songs i have, it gets to around 700+ then starts pinwheeling. There is no way out of it except to unplug the ipod. Anybody else having this problem? Anyone know how to fix it?
Im on a macbook pro with a 3G ipod
Macbook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I am having the same problem. I connect my 3G iPod and iTunes 7 launches, I get the "Updating Library on iPod" dialog, the progress bar goes about 2/3 and iTunes "dies". Activity monitor show "Not Responding" and I have to force quit iTunes.
The 3G iPod mounts on the desktop but I can't even "eject" it. I have to reset the iPod and of course when it restarts and remounts on the desktop iTunes 7 launches and we're in a vicious cycle.
I would reset the iPod to Factory Settings but I interact with it because of the cycle described above. Is there a way to prevent iTunes 7 from auto-launching when I connect the iPod?
Fortunately, the music and books on the pod are fine, but obviously I can't update it with anything new. It's a good thing I just loaded three new long audiobooks!
As to your question, "Anybody have any idea what's going on?" Apple screwed up and released a poorly tested piece of software. I bet QA for this release never even tested with anything but a brand new iPod on a top end Intel mac. This isn't the first time Apple forgot about us loyal, long time Mac users who can't afford to buy the newest and best as soon as it comes out. Heck I'm still paying for my 2ghz iMac (the one just before the one with the camera) and now they want me to dump it and jump to an Intel iMac.
Thanks for nothing Apple!

my iTunes will not recognize my iPhone after iTunes was updated. what does that mean?
    <Re-Titled By Host>

    Hello mzshay2u2,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
From your post I understand that you're unable to locate your iPhone within iTunes 12 on your Mac.  First, I'd like you to take a look at the screenshot below, as iTunes 12 changed the navigation of your Library.
Sync your iPhone, iPad and iPod with iTunes using USB
If you do not see your iPhone's icon there, then continue on to the link below.

  • ITunes won't recognize my iPod touch after a failed update--my iPod is stuck on the "plug into itunes" screen

Yesterday, I had bought myself an ipod touch and it was working just fine until today when I went along with an itunes prompt to update my ipod.  It failed to update and now won't recognize it, I checked to see if it was recognized by my computer--and it is, but a thing pops up that says "access denied" whenever I try to click on it.  The screen on my ipod is stuck wanting me to connect to itunes.

  • Windows iPod doesn't work on Mac after iTunes 5 update

Hi. I have a windows formatted 2nd (touch wheel) generation 10gig iPod. I also have an iBook G4. The windows iPod always worked on my Mac until I updated from iTunes 4.9 to iTunes 5. I have the latest iTunes software, but now I can't put songs on my iPod. (I use automatic update.) What's more, whenever I plug in my iPod, my iBook deletes some of my songs from the iPod, and says that the iPod software needs to be updated. When I tried to update it, it said that the iBook couldn't do it because it's a Windows-formatted iPod. It's all a mess. Can anyone help?

Are you trying to switch to mac or to use two different computers?
There are a lot of threads dealing with using an iPod on both PCs and Macs at the same time. I believe there is a problem if you try to do automatic uploads from iTunes from both computers, but check the discussions specific to that.
If you are switching, your life would be easier if you reformatted the iPod to HFS+ (mac format)

  • Why won't some songs play on 1st generation iPod Touch after paying to update to software version 3.1.3 (7E18)?

This weekend I purchased the software update for the 1st generation touch from iTunes to update it to version 3.1.3.  Prior to the update, the iPod was still 100% working.  The only reason I paid for the upgrade was so I could get the App Store.  Since upgrading, approximately 50% of my songs won't play.  When the problem occurs, the album art will show up on the screen, but after a few seconds of silence, the "play" button pops up indicating that the song paused or stopped.  If I push play again, it looks like it will play for a second or two, but then it does the same thing.  Then if I skip to the next song, and its a song the iPod likes, I can hit play and that song will play without a problem.  All the songs on my iPod have been downloaded from iTunes or ripped from CD's I purchased, so it's not like I have a bunch of shady, corrupt music files.  I'm just frustrated because Apple wants to charge me for support since this is an older product.  However, the product was working fine until the other day when I PAID for their software update.  If anyone went through a similar issue and has info it would be much appreciated.

    Try the standard fixes:
    - Reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPod.

  • No function after iTunes/Quicktime update

After restarting my G4 Power Mac when the iTunes/Quicktime update had installed, my screen went to blue and froze. I did a hard reboot and now any program I open quits within seconds and I can't open any of my folders! When I try to open something, everything but the dock (toolbar and desktop icons) disappears and come back in a few seconds. Is this an iTunes issue or is there something else going on?

Try booting in Safe Mode. Hold down the Shift key during startup. If that doesn't do it, try holding down the X key during startup. If that doesn't start it up, I think you need to post over in the forum that applies to your particular machine (iBook, MacBook, iMac, etc.) The pros over there might be able to help. Don't hesitate to post back if you have more questions.

  • External Firewire HD dead after iTunes 7 update - won't mount!

I have a pretty serious problem.
I have a 70gb music library that I keep on a Lacie Porsche 250gb external Firewire HD. The first time I ran iTunes 7, it gave me the spinning ball and locked up when "determining gapless information". I had to force quit iTunes.
A few hours later, the external drive started making a high pitched noise, and now it won't mount at all. It's also not visible in Disk Utility or Diskwarrior. I'm at a loss!
I have lots of very valuable information stored on my external drive, so I'm really hoping I can do something to revive it.
    powerbook g4 500mhz   Mac OS X (10.4.7)
    powerbook g4 500mhz   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I recently had exactly the same problem with the 200GB model prior to the iTunes 7 update, so would concur that you're probably looking at a hardware quality issue. Thankfully the problems seem to be more related to power supply rather that the drive itself so you may be able to regain the data by swapping this over to a new external caddy as I did, but be wary of warranty issues.
    Good luck ...

  • IPod Touch will not fill to capacity after iTunes 9 update

After updating iTunes to 9.0 my iPod touch will no longer fill to capacity. Although the capacity bar on the Summary screen shows about 80 MB free, I keep getting the error that there is not enough space to sync anything more. I have updated my firmware to 3.1.1 and the problem persists. A possibly related problem is that even if I leave like 200 mb free, the "Automatically fill free space with songs" feature does not seem to work - it just leaves the space empty.

I seem to be having the same problem as well, and it happened after i installed itunes 9. Supposedly, I would have about 90mb of free space on my ipod but when I try to sync a few photos or extra songs it will tell there's not enough available memory..that i only have 20mb. Before, I used to be able to fill my ipod completely. But now, it stops filling once it reaches 70mb remaining. I've read other instances in this forum of this happening to other people.
Even with the firmware update (9.0.1) I'm still experiencing the problem. hopefully Apple will come up with something to patch this up.

  • Not able to download all of my music onto my ipod 5 after 8.2 update

After updating my 5th gen ipod touch to 8.2 software I am not able to download all of my music from my itunes library.
I have updated the software twice now and have restored and gone back to factory settings and have started over from scratch.
Before doing this my ipod wouldn't download any music. After doing this, it has downloaded some but not all music.
For instance, out of 100 songs on a playlist, only 90 will download. My apps and photos seem okey, just not the music.

  • Podcasts are without video after iTunes 702 update !!

After updating to iTunes 702, my previously downloaded podcasts are not viewing any video, just the audio.
Anyone has the same problem ??

When I navigate via Music/Podcasts (or Podcasts straight off the main menu if you have your iPod configured that way), I get the audio and video podcasts and these are then played back audio-only (ie any video podcasts are played back from that menu as thought they were audio-only, which isn't a bad thing if I have my iPod in my pocket, as I guess it uses less power than generating the video which I'm not watching?).
To watch video podcasts including the video, I have to navigate through the menus via Videos/Video Podcasts, then I see only the video podcasts and any I select from there are played back audio+video.
If that isn't the case for you too, I don't have any suggestions because I don't think I am doing anything particular to make it work that way. This is with a 5.5G 80Gbyte iPod and the latest firmware and iTunes software.

  • Cannot update 5G iPod setting after 1.2 update...

Has anyone else run into this problem. I updated to iTunes 7 today along with the 1.2 update for my 5G iPod. I am running Mac OS X.
After the update, my video playlists were removed from the iPod. Checking the iPod setting showed that the video playlist were no longer checked to auto sync. The problem is my iPod will not stay connected long enough for me to update this option. The iPod is recognized when I connect for once iTunes realizes the songs are up to date, the iPod disconnects. If I check to sync the video playlist and apply, an error message will appear saying that the iPod could not be found.
Any ideas or anyone else have this?

Ok well, i'm having a problem updating my ipod. Are you saying i should not even attempt to update and be glad for the block? I keep getting error messages.
But i totally agree with you. I'm frustrated. I can't add songs to my ipod and itunes won't even recognize the ipod. I've tried reverting to v6 and tried restoring as well. Always ending up with ERROR. Apple should have tested every version on every OS system. How long could that take??? 2 weeks with as many ppl working as they do. If i asked alll the ppl who had trouble with this new version if they could wait 2 weeks for a perfected version, what would they say?? THEY WOULD SAY FREAKING YES!
I would also agree that for close to $500CDN for an ipod... it should definitely last longer than a year. I'd say at least 3 or 4.
And if it does come to the end [ipod dying] i won't buy another. I think i will go back to the retro days of bought and burned cds on my trusty sony cd player.

  • My phone is jammed after trying to update

I started my IPHone update last night. As of this morning it is not complete and jammed. How do I unjam it?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • 5g iPod crashing after 1.2 update

My iPod has been crashing multiple times per day during track selection (usually right after I select a track). Yesterday it happened on a particular track, but today that track is fine, but others are not.
This started after I updated to 1.2. I have downloaded 1 game and several of the newly encoded videos, but the crashing seems exclusive to music/podcast selection. I'm not sure what else to comment on here.
    Any suggestions?
I've considered reformatting the iPod as it does receive a lot of I/O (I listen to many podcasts and sync at least once daily, so a portion of tracks are constantly changing).
    Thanks in advance.

  • ATV unstable after iTunes 11 update

    Hi Guys,
I have a problem. Since the update of iTunes 11 and the new ATV updates my Atv's are useless.
I have 4 x ATV 3 and 2 Macbook pro's. All wireless connection via an airport extreme
since the update the following happens:
    - Once you have started the Atv up and out of sleep mode, it now takes a while to find the Library.
    - Then I select the show I want to watch and within 5-8 min's it suddenly stops and says no network connection.
    - Then after a minute, the ATV regains network connection, so I select the library and then its says that there is no Home sharing available.
    - After2-3min it finds home sharing and I can get back into my itunes library.
    - Select the same show to continue watching but the same S*^%$ happens again and again. So after doing this 2 or 3 times I give up and put on a DVD.
Has somebody found a fix as this is just so annoying.
    hope someone can help
    BR,
    Nicholas

    Hi everybody,
I have two App TV's, one is a 2nd gen and the the other is a 3rd gen model.
My network is based on a Mac Time Capsule 3 Tb, connected to a ADSL router. I connect to the Time Capsule, via Ethernet, a iMac, a MacBook Pro, an iPod, an iPhone 4S, both Apple TVs and an iPad 2.
First I updated all my devices to the newest version of iTunes and also I've started to have the same problem you are reporting. I was sure that updating the Aple TV 3gen to the newest firmware was going to solve the problem, but no... I'm still having the same problem, exactly as you described it.
As a matter of fact, the Apple TV 2gen is not working properly with my videos, when accessing to the iMac or the MacBook Pro.
So, the problem started with the new iTunes 11. It's my conclusion.
Has anybody experienced the same problem?
    Keep well,
    Carlos
