3g Nano causes itunes/My Computer to freeze...

My nano is 2 weeks old and works fine by itself. The nano connects and charges fine. As soon as it does, though, itunes and my computer freezes and become unusable. It doesn't show up in itunes and sometimes will show up in my computer as a portable device. I've gone through the 5 R's, reinstalled itunes twice , tried disk mode, different USB...nothing works.
Any possible ideas?

I just wanted to add that I can use itunes all by itself to manage/listen to my music. My nano also works flawlessly. I keep reading that itunes 7.6 is causing a lot of problems. If anyone from Apple acutally reads these hopefully a newer version is on its way to fix the bugs.

  • Multiple times spellckecking my emails has caused my entire computer to freeze.

Hi, Many times I have clicked "check word" in spell check and had my iMac freeze. The " beachball" rolls and no amount or combination of keyboard or other cancel clicks will un-freeze the system! Un plugging the computer is the only way of getting out of the screen-Help! I'm afraid to spell check my emails!

i had a similar problem recently. what happened to me was that itunes was doing some kinda "reeding" of music files of some sort [i honestly dont remember the exact name of the action], but whenever it got to a certain song, it would do the same thing you are describing which is crash the computer or freeze it up. i decided to actually FIND the file that was causing the problem and when i got rig of the file and started itunes [this after having to turn itunes on and watch my computer freeze up again to acquire the song name] it worked perfectly.
it seems to me that [since the file itself was a rip of a rip] it might have been corrupted some how and so itunes didnt know what to do with it. i looked at the file and an mp3 file that should be in the range of 2-5mb was actually in the range of 1-200kb which leads me to believe that the file was corrupted.
i dont know if that will help, but i hope you get your problem resolved...

  • With iTunes 10, Computer Still Freezing When Podcasts are Downloading

For the last several versions of iTunes, my computer has been slowing down a LOT while podcasts are downloading, especially when a new iT version is first installed. Then things improve over time. Now, with iTunes 10.1.1.4, it's horrendous. ITunes takes forever to open, and then causes my computer to become completely unresponsive. It doesn't respond to mouse or keyboard inputs, so I can't minimize it or shut it down.
Sometimes when that happens, I can't even open Task Manager, but when I can, it indicates that iTunes is using between 95 and 98% of CPU. In that circumstance, I can't even shut down iTunes with TM. After 15 or 20 minutes and all the podcasts have downloaded, I'm able to use my computer again, even with iTunes open.
It happens with all podcasts, but obviously it's more of a problem when a big pcast is downloading.
Today, I got the famous blue screen of death. All my programs had frozen and I was trying to shut down iTunes. The blue screen said "kernel data inpage error," whatever that means.
With past versions, I've tried uninstalling and re-installing iT, but that has not helped.
All my other programs are working fine. Today I ran CCCleaner, AdAware, RegCure and Malware Bytes, but nothing changed. My McAfee anti-virus max scanning time is 10 seconds.
Any idea what could be going on here? Or how to begin troubleshooting this mess?

    Hi,

You have to be certain that you have backed up your Library's and Playlists and that you are doing the one in the root (if like me you use a HD any old library/playlists instead of deleting them put them some were safe just incase and make sure you are re-creating the library from your root folder i.e user/music/itunes

  • Selecting media to sync to iPod Nano causes iTunes to become sluggish and freeze.

For the past few months I've noticed that when I update the content on my 6th Gen iPod Nano iTunes will freeze after I switch from music to audiobooks, or anything for that matter.  The same issue happens when I try to select specific artists, or an audiobook.

  • 80 Gb ipod classic causes itunes 8.02 to freeze during sync

Itunes 8.02 w/ 80Gb Ipod classic. Owned and synced to same mac for a year. No hardware changed.
Initial problem occurred over a week ago when connecting ipod to mac. Error popped up and told me I would have to restore ipod to factory settings. Clicked on restore. ipod rebooted and cleared itself.
Since then I have trouble syncing completely. Ipod and itunes seemed to be syncing properly but slowly and then stopped with progress bar still-came back over an hour later, and progress bar still at same place and sync icon on itunes and ipod still spinning. Tried to cancel, change settings, and/or do anything in itunes and it freezes with spinning cursor. Will not force-quit. I have to manually reset or unplug ipod from connector to resume.
I have been able to load music (9.96Gb) onto ipod by disabling auto-sync, syncing of podcasts(over 300), 1 audiobook, and 1 .pls file-radio station (which never tried to synced to ipod before). All of these items I have had long before the problem. I loaded a new cd into itunes and created a new playlist. Itunes accepted this with no problem. Ipod will not sync the new music when I manually click sync.
*if thread already exists please send link-tried problem solving using other posts, but to no luck
    Thanks

I found someone online who has the same problem, and claims that it can be fixed by reformatting the ipod in windows. I currently have not yet tried this, but I have tried reformatting it through disk utility on my mac pro, but to no avail.
I am planning on trying to reformat it through windows, and I will let you know what the outcome is when I get around to it.

  • ITunes is causing entire computer to freeze.....

iTunes is causing my entire computer to freeze since my last upgrade. If I'm using the application or its up and I'm not using it, after a while, it will cause the entire computer to freeze and I have to do an emergency shutdown because my mouse won't even move. Everything is locked up @ this point. Having the iPod plug in without the application up doesn't really seem to bother from what I've seen it but there were occasions when the iPod was plugged in and the application was in use that the computer made this skitzing sound and then completely locked up. I got the blue screen on approx. 2 occasions. And when I plug my iPod up to some speakers in the same manner you plug up headphones (Sony brand), I got that same skitzing sound while listening to one of the songs, but it didn't stop playing.
It has froze/shutdown while using the application alone while I'm browsing the store for different items. This is the majority of the times it has happen.
It has froze/shutdown while the iPod was plugged in.
It has froze/shutdown while the application has been open on the computer but not in use. And this is the only common factor going on in relation to the shutdowns.
I use the same thing basically everytime I come on this computer. Always FireFox, MSN, Gmail Talk, & Yahoo Messenger running in the background. <--- This hasn't caused a problem before. And that's about it. I've had the computer to slow down due to low memory but not the skitzing sounds and frequency of shutdowns its experiencing now.
Can anybody relate to this and if so, then what should I do? Is there a problem with the last release? And at this point, what should I do about this?

i had a similar problem recently. what happened to me was that itunes was doing some kinda "reeding" of music files of some sort [i honestly dont remember the exact name of the action], but whenever it got to a certain song, it would do the same thing you are describing which is crash the computer or freeze it up. i decided to actually FIND the file that was causing the problem and when i got rig of the file and started itunes [this after having to turn itunes on and watch my computer freeze up again to acquire the song name] it worked perfectly.

downloading itunes causes computer to freeze because of high computer usage...how do i fix it?

With the Error 2, let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • Help: iTunes and my computer (XP) freeze when trying to synchronize iPod Nano (6G)

    Hi,
My iTunes (10.6) and my computer (running on Windows XP SP3) (near) freezes when I'm trying to synchronize my iPod Nano (6G). iTunes consumes 99% of my computer processor. And the iTunes screen stalls with the text "Synchronize starts". My iPod seems to react in the beginning, it shortly shows "synchronizing", but stops after a few seconds en says "connected" after.
I tried waiting for a long time, maybe it's just slow but that was just disappointing.
I allready changed the drive letter for the iPod in computer/disk management (a suggestion on an another forum). Didn't help.
Also tried resetting the iPod, didn't help.
I always end up killing the iTunes process in TaskManagement or rebooting the computer
I tried updating iTunes to a newer versions (running on 10.6). But that's also not responding. When I select download the newest software just nothing happens.
(I had this before and know how to fix this: run Windows Installer Cleanup en do a complete new install, lots of work).
Problably related problems but keen on suggestions

  • Connecting ipod causes computer to freeze

Hello, I'm not sure which ipod I have (a 20 gig purchased around Dec. 2004). I just got a new computer with Windows Vista because my old one (which my ipod was configured to) died. That computer had Windows XP. I installed the latest version of iTunes on the new computer and tried to connect my iPod to the new computer and it causes iTunes as well as my entire computer to freeze when the iPod is connected via USB. However, when I disconnect the iPod the computer unfreezes. I would like to synch my ipod with the new computer so I can add everything from the ipod onto the new computer. Does anyone know what's going on and how to fix it?

I am having a similar problem. My whole computer doesn't freeze just "my computer" and itunes. But both windows and itunes don't recognize my ipod. I restored my ipod using a mac (erasing all my songs) and re-restored it on my pc. (It did recognize my ipod once I had formatted it on a mac first and asked for a reformat to windows) But it would not sync once I had finished with the restore. Please help?

  • ITunes 9.2.1 Freezing Computer, Failing to Install Properly

I've run iTunes on my Dell Inspiron 1454 for over a year. I have Windows Vista Home. I updated iTunes to 9.2.1 about 2 weeks ago.
I started having serious problems on my computer. Software such as iTunes, MS Word, and Mozilla Firefox would take several minutes to load, and iTunes would not load at all. My computer took 5 minutes to shut down and up to 15 minutes to boot up. Over the next 2 days of troubleshooting tactics, I uninstalled most of my software to try to find the problem. I had even uninstalled iTunes, but the problem remained. (My iTunes library stayed in place.) I finally used a windows utility that listed iTunes.exe and AppleMobileDeviceHelper.exe as "Causing Windows to Shut Down Very Slowly." But I'd already uninstalled all of that software. So, I went to the recycle bin and cleared these. My computer instantly started working fine.
I have since tried again to download iTunes 9.2.1, but every time I get the same result: my computer completely freezes. I can't use my mouse and can't pull up the task manager. I have to manually restart my computer.
I have also tried downloading the previous version of iTunes. These download fine, but when I try to open them, I get an error message along the lines of "iTunes can't open these files, because they were created by a newer version of iTunes." So basically, I have no access to about $300 of songs.
I can't use my iPod (3rd Gen) either, as it froze about 2 weeks ago and I need to sync it with iTunes to fix it. I used to have my iPod set as an external harddrive so all my songs were backed up onto it, but that was last year and I'm no 100% sure all of my newer purchases have been backed up into my iPod. I don't believe my iPod ever synced with iTunes 9.2.1.
I do have my current iTunes library backed up to an external harddrive, but they were backed up after I had installed iTunes 9.2.1.
    Things I've tried:
    - Emptying the Temp Directory
    - Installing older versions of iTunes
    - Installing iTunes 9.2.1 and then immediately deleting the downloaded executable file
Any help would be tremendously appreciated!

I started having serious problems on my computer. Software such as iTunes, MS Word, and Mozilla Firefox would take several minutes to load, and iTunes would not load at all. My computer took 5 minutes to shut down and up to 15 minutes to boot up.
What make and version of security software are you using on the PC, Brieanne?
Even if it isn't currently installed, has a Symantec security product like Norton ever been installed on the PC?

  • Downloaded iTunes, now computer freezes whenever I insert iPhone/iPod.

I recently updated to the latest version of iTunes and when I come to sync my iPhone/iPod Nano, the computer totally freezes (including mouse cursor and music).
iTunes support told me that it could be due to out-of-date drivers, however I've updated all my drivers and the problem persists.
Any ideas on how to fix this problem would be appreciated.

I have almost the exact same concern. Mine happens with just ITunes open or when device is connected. I notice that after I sync and remove the phone in a while my computer will lock up tight. I’m almost positive it locked up with just ITunes open and no device connected. You can't do anything! I have had my curser still messed up after reboot and had to reboot a second time to get things back to normal. I'm using windows XP SP3, Internet explorer 7.0.5730.13 and iTunes 8.2.1.6. It's getting to the point that I charge my iphone 3G from a wall charger because I need to reboot every time! If you’re having the same concern, please post! We are obviously not the only people with this concern. If enough people post maybe Apple will do something!
As far as having drivers out of date, which ones?! I have all the updates from Microsoft. There are way too many drivers to just start going through one at a time. Are we just supposed to update all of them or are there specific ones to look at. That answer paints way to wide of a brush stroke. Can anyone be more specific on which ones?
The other concerns I have is my phone is getting slower and slower. I can be texting someone and 4 to 6 letters are typed before they even show up on the screen! I can count to 5 sec or more waiting for simple things to open. I have also just restored the phone 3 weeks back or so for the same problem because that’s what all the post said and it did not help much.
I also notice that the service on the iphone seems to have changed. Before I had 5 bars sitting in my house and now I'm lucky if I have 2 bars sitting in the same room same seat. Not to mention that the network seems to be crawling! It's less frustrating to not use the browser and wait till I get home to find info.
I have to say that in the beginning I was such a sales person for the iphone! I have personally helped sell at least 7 iphone! I was one of those people you wish would just shut up about the new toy! But as time goes on it's really losing its luster! It seems that every time we get an update the concerns it add to the phone are not worth the updates! I'm finding out that I'm starting to use the phone for just a phone! (Don’t even get me started on dropped calls.)It's not going to be too long till the cost of ownership out ways the use.
I know these sound like a ***** session but I have seen post about all of these concerns at one time or another. You would think they would be addressed by Microsoft! I mean Apple. Just a slip of the tongue. LOL!

  • Will not enough RAM cause iTunes to freeze?

My computer does not have the required RAM that Apple says you need for iTunes 9. Will this cause iTunes to freeze?

It's possible. Whenever a computer doesn't meet system requirements for a particular piece of software, it's possible the software may work just fine and it's also possible that some issues may be encountered. I ran iTunes 7 (required 512 MB RAM at least, as I recall) on an XP box with only 256 MB RAM. iTunes worked but lagged, and video playback was pretty much not an option.
    Hope this helps.
