3g Nano scroll wheel is peeling off

I just got my 3g Nano in the mail and Ive come to notice that the scroll wheel is almost like peeling back from the top. Ive heard they are using adhesives to hold it on there and it seems that the top of the wheel isnt held on very well. While it doesn't seem to be affecting the controls, I'm worried that it will eventually come off all the way.
Also, can anyone tell me if this is normal? When I go to view photos, I click into the photo directory, and I can see the thumbs of the photos. When I center click the photo, a blank screen comes up and its all black. When I hit the center click on more time, the picture shows up.
Its engraved, so will the store give me a hard time exchanging it out? 200 was alot for me to spend and while I like my nano, I think i got a bunk one.

I haven't heard of the scroll wheel issue anywhere else (mine is fine), but the blank picture issue is known.
Myself and many others have experienced it, definitely a software bug.

  • Ipod Nano - Scroll wheel

The scroll wheel sometimes flips and the starts to scroll up and down without you touching it. Menus and sounds follows along. Stops suddenly and works normally again. It's only 3 months old. Anyone experienced same ? Known problem ? Guarantee ?

my 1st generation nano does the same thing, my ipod was hooked up and playing and i unhooked it and the scroll wheel or middle button wont work, but when i toggle menu and the middle button it still resets? i have no idea what to do.

  • IPod nano scroll wheel doesn't scroll

I just got a nano, fresh from the packaging, for Christmas. It was purchased 9/1/06.
The buttons seem to work, but the "click wheel" doesn't work. It's impossible to scroll up or down by rolling my thumb along the circle.

  • 1GB Nano, Replaced battery, scroll wheel stop working

    Hi,
I have replaced the battery in my 1GB nano. For the battery wires, I cut, twisted and taped them together. Closed it up, the ipod seemed to work. All except the scroll wheel.
I am able to do a restart (menu + action) but can't get into diagnostic mode (rewind + action). I've also done a reset. None of the buttons or the wheel work when the ipod is working.
Is there anything I can do here? Is there something inside which I can fix? any ideas?
    thannks

at work so i cant try that now, but do you know if the nano needs the backing on to work? It seems to have some sort of contact sensor. (I have been trying with it on, but if i'm testing it alot, would save time and possible damage to leave it open)
    thanks for the info

  • IPod nano resets when scroll wheel touched or button is pressed

Recently my friend lost my iPod and gave me hers as a replacement. It's a 3rd gen 8 gig iPod nano. It was working fine with her music on it, but when I went to update it on my computer I had to reformat it for windows (my friend uses a mac I guess), and since then it boots only to the language select screen and resets whenever any button is pressed or the scroll wheel is moved. Even if the iPod is connected to my computer (computer doesn't have any problems recognizing the device) it does this whenever I touch any control on the iPod. It resets, goes to the apple logo boot screen, and goes to the language select screen again (repeat). If I don't touch it it stays at the language select screen or goes to the "connected" screen eventually if it's still connected, so it's not resetting spontaneously or anything.
I've restored the iPod several times and it hasn't solved the problem. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    lol, no answers eh
I'm really puzzled. I've put it in disk mode and drained the batteries completely...charged it completely...restored it on two different computers...I guess I'll take it to an apple store?

  • Turn Off Scroll Wheel Zooming

I need to turn off the scroll wheel zooming in After Effects. If I am looking at a Comp window and I scroll with my mouse, the view zooms in or out. I don't want to do this, especially because I have a Magic Mouse and any stray movement suddenly zooms my window. It's a realy problem. Can I turn this "feature" off?
    iMac i7 running Mac OS X 10.6.2

Feh. If Adobe actually DID listen, they would have taken one of the following steps (in order of likelihood):
added all the features to Illustrator that FreeHand had 10 years ago that are STILL missing.
continued to update/upgrade FreeHand (not as stupid as it sounds...look at how many different clothes detergents Proctor & Gamble makes that compete with one another).
release the source code with a Creative Commons license, and allow developers to create an open source alternative to Illustrator (okay - THAT would be suicidal for illustrator, but a guy can dream).
I know a few things about the way Adobe (and all software companies for that matter) work. I worked for competitiors of theirs, and a company they acquired. Lots of friends still work there at Adobe.
Problem is, what we don't see as consumers is what REALLY goes on there - the jockeying for dominance by one product group over another, the limited resources and the constant battle for them between fixing what's broken (not a money-maker but helps the customers) or adding new features (attracts new customers but introduces more bugs). At Micrografx, we used to joke that a X.0 release was our "X.UH-oh" version. At one time tech support guys would ask each other, "did they want help with the "original recipe" or "extra buggy." But what really kills me is I have a lot invested in FreeHand. And it had features and functionality that is simply not in Illustrator, even now. That's insane. To make an analogy in another area, it's like GM buying Chrysler for their variable-speed transmission, and other cool technology, then discontinuing all the unique features and products, and continuing to sell the same old stuff. I realize that vector drawing is a mature category, but we deserve better than Illustrator.
Even worse is the Windows-centric nature of Adobe. Back in the day, Adobe was a Mac company, first and foremost. Their Windows products were...um...kind of a joke. Illustrator 1.0, for instance, cost $100 more than it's Mac counterpart, and could only PRINT in color...it couldn't display anything in color on the screen. (!) Somewhere along the way, someone made a decision to develop on Windows (with a huge advantage in overall market share, this makes financial sense) and port the code to Macs. That's a BIG mistake, because ported code is, by definition, bloated and unresponsive. It's a cost-effective way to do business...right up until your users wise up. Unfortunately, by going for the larger Windows market, Adobe's forgotten that in graphics, Macs are still the choice of a majority of graphics professionals.
How do they diss Macs? Let me count the ways: let's take video, for instance. Take a Mac and a PC. Equip both with the same CPU, RAM, and Hard Drive. See which one plays back video faster. Surprise! It's the PC. Why? Bloated code. Same is true for Flash. And Photoshop.
The only thing that allows Adobe to get away with listening to their bean counters instead of their customers is they have VERY little competition. In fact, where they DO have competition, they are (surprise again) competitive. Final Cut almost destroyed Premier. But Adobe got serious about improving Premiere, and today it's begining to win the hearts and minds of the Apple faithful.
As I see it, there are two solutions here. I'm good with either one.
Someone (like Apple) steps into to make quailty apps on the Mac that will make it a two horse race. Adobe will improve...or die.
Apple buys Adobe and folds CS6 into their software line, like Final Cut Pro and Logic Studio.
Don't care which happens. But I'm really very unhappy with the state of things as they are. So...Adobe...ARE you listening?

  • Turn off double-click scroll wheel/middle button mini navigation window?

So I've found a couple posts without working solutions....
I use AutoCAD all day, so using the scroll wheel button to pan documents is pretty common for me.
If I accidentally double-click the scroll wheel, the mini-page navigation window appears, and the only way to disable it (that i know of) is to click the tiny "x" each time.....
QUITE ANNOYING as I am in Reader all day, constantly scrolling through documents to reference things.
Anyway to permanently disable the mini page navigation window?

oh, sorry. i realized i had posted the other one in the 5th generation iPod forum.

  • 3G iPod nano with scroll wheel when the iPod is connected

The scroll wheel of my brand new 3G iPod doesn't respond when I plug it in a dock cable (the dock connector of the USB cable and the dock connector of the FM tuner). The iPod is recognized by the computer and can be synchronized. The FM tuner is working except that I can't use the scroll wheel.
It seems to be an hardware problem. I try to reset it several times without success.
    Thanks in advance

No it is every time I just plug the iPod through the dock even the FM tuner.
Any connection of the dock connector deactivate the scroll wheel.

  • Ipod Help! (scroll wheel froze.already did the reset steps!)

Ok, so I was walking around with my ipod in my pocket. I hear a song playing so I turn the song off to play another one. The song stops playing, but I can't do anything with the scroll wheel. Yes, I've checked my updates, tried to recover it, and done the rest. It shows the apple icon the it goes back to the main screen and doesn't let me go anywhere! But! When I insert it into my spa fusion ipod home product it plays and lets me scroll! Please help me! I love my ipod dearly and can afford to go out and buy another one. Can anyone please help me?

Is there any chance that the Nano (it is a Nano, right?) got wet in your pocket, especially from perspiration? I don't know how waterproof these things are, but I suspect contact of the wheel with salty perspiration, which is a fairly good electrical conductor, is not good for them.

  • Raised scroll wheel issue

My nano's scroll wheel feels slightly raised and as if I could easily pry it off, especially at the top and bottom. Is this part of the new design or is it a legitimate problem? The reason I ask is because my last two ipods, a 1st gen nano and a 4th gen classic both have scroll wheels that are aligned with the face of the ipod and i can't feel any edges on them. Has anybody else had this problem ?
    Message was edited by: TimidTiger

I just got my wife a 3rd gen Nano and I think it has the same issue. My 5th gen 60gb is not like that, so i doubt it was designed that way...
    Anyone else?

  • Scroll Wheel no longer works. Please Help !

About a month ago, my scroll wheel suddenly just stopped working. I now have very limited use of it. For example, I cannot scroll through my song list, because it takes about 5 minutes of constantly trying to scroll, for it to move down one song. The only way I can listen to music,if to have it on shuffle.
Please help me! Its driving me up the wall.

It sounds like a job for service, but if you're confident/have a technically able friend you could see if the connector is dirty/has come loose.
I posted this a few threads down:
Ok, this is a potentially easy fix for the confident.
BEFORE DOING ANY WORK ON AN IPOD, ENSURE THAT YOU'VE SWITCHED IT OFF (HOLD PLAY) AND PUT IT ON HOLD.
Go get a small jeweller's flat-headed screwdriver (~2-3mm wide), and gently pry away the white bit from the case. Inside there should be a metal bracket. Using the screwdriver, ease away the metal bracket from all four corners, trying not to bend the bracket. Be careful, they have a tendency to spring free. Once you've removed this, with your mini face up there is a brown plug connector (big square of silicone. Gently remove that with the screwdriver, ensure that it's relatively clean, and push it home. Reassemble the iPod, and let me know how you get on.
It sounds less likely in your case than the other, since he 'd said that he'd dropped it, but it's worth a try if it's outside the warranty.

  • Why isn't the scroll wheel working properly with Firefox 4?

I have a new Windows 7 PC at work with Firefox 4 on it. The scroll wheel on my mouse is not working right. It will work if I use Internet Explorer but I have trouble getting it to work with Firefox. Usually what I have to do is click the wheel to get that mode of scrolling where you move the mouse up and down to scroll the screen and that will work. And then when I click the wheel again to get out of that mode, my scroll wheel will work as expected. But I don't want to have to do that all the time. And sometimes that trick doesn't work. The scroll wheel is working fine with MS Excel and Lotus Notes and Internet Explorer, etc, so it seems to be something the new Firefox has an issue with.

I fixed my problem! I was messing around in msconfig to turn off Lync from my Startup list and noticed something called Mouse Suite 98 was in my Startup. I did a quick google check and learned I could remove it without doing any harm. And voila! My scrollwheel is working properly with Firefox, finally! Hope this helps someone out there.

  • Mighty Mouse bluetooth: scroll wheel in Vista 64 bit doesn't work

I Installed Vista 64 bit on my Mac Pro.
My bluetooth mighty mouse has been recognized as an hid mouse. It works but the scroll wheel.
I tested on osx and it works, so it is not dirty or broken.
I tried to install the drivers from my leopard dvd but I receive an error message during the installation.
I downloaded the bootcamp update for 64bit systems but when I try to install it, it tells me the software to be updated is missing.
I tried to use a recent leopard dvd a friend gave but it tells me that my system doesn't support 64 bit softwares (is a late 2007 Mac Pro).
Is there anyone who knows the answer?

You have to have a pre-2008 Mac Pro I take it.
(might want to include more in your profile)
First you need to install 64-bit drivers from Apple off 10.5.4 or later DVD or from a 2008 Mac Pro.
Might even be drivers for generic BT mice available somewhere??

I think you'll need to uninstall your current Apple services and device drivers, restart and then go with BC 2.x for 64-bit.

  • My ipod nano click wheel will not work - Ipod works when docked on mobile speakers from remote control

My ipos Nano click wheel will not work, however when it is docked on mobile speakers it will work from the remote control.

If it continues to malfunction after a restore, it's probably bad hardware.
I'd recommend making a Genius Bar appointment. They'll probably give you a couple options: Replace it with an identical model for a discounted price, or trade it in for recycling and get 10% off a new iPod.
