3G Signal Loss after upgrading to ios 4.0.1 ?

Hello Everyone,
I don't think that I am the only one with a 3GS that is having this problem. I have the iphone 3GS, I was very excited to upgrade to ios 4.0. Once the upgrade was complete everything was just fine. Then came along ios 4.0.1, I figured why not. Isn't that what you are supposed to do to keep you phone up to date. Well, ever since I upgraded to ios 4.0.1 I have lost my 3G signal. My wife's phone is the exact same model, purchased at the exact same time. She is still running ios 4.0 and not having any problems. I spoke with Apple Care today and they said that ios 4.0.1 was in no way going to affect the 3G signal strength. Now, if I take my phone and my wife's phone and hold them side by side. She will have full signal and I might have one bar. Then when I go to safari and try to load a web page. Her phone,(with 5 bars) will download twice as fast as mine.
Is there any way for me to go back to ios 4.0?
Thanks Apple for fixing all of the iphone4 problems and creating one on the 3GS and then not acknowledging it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Demi

THERE IS A GROWING AND VERY STRONG DISTASTE AT THE LACK OF SUPPORT AND INTERVENTION BY APPLE IN HELPING THE MANY THOUSANDS OF PAYING CUSTOMERS WHO HAVE PURCHASED IPHONES AND FIND THEY ARE NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE.
I AM HAPPY TO INVOLVE THE BBC IN THE UK AND OTHER MEDIA SOURCES TO HAVE APPLE SIT UP AND TAKE NOTICE OF THE NUMBER OF DISSATISFIED CUSTOMERS WHO HAVE PAID LARGE SUMS OF HARD EARNED MONEY FOR A PHONE CAPABILITY THAT IS DISGRACEFULLY BAD. LIKE MANY OTHERS THE IPHONE CAN BE PLACED ALONGSIDE OTHER COMPETITOR'S DEVICES WHO HAVE CONTINUALLY GOOD AND CONSTANT SIGNAL STRENGTH WHILST THE IPHONE SHOWS NONE.
ON A PERSONAL BASIS THIS PHONE HAS CAUSED ME TO LOSE OUT ON A NUMBER OF SIGNIFICANT PHONE CALLS, SOME INVOLVING THE DEMISE OF A RELATIVE - MATTERS THAT CAN NEVER BE REPLACED. AND YET THE ISSUES REMAIN.
PLEASE, ANYONE, FEEL FREE TO EMAIL ME ON [email protected] WITH CONSTRUCTIVE COMMENTS ABOUT THE POOR QUALITY OF THE PRODUCT (IPHONE 4 OR 3GS) AND THE EXTENT TO WHICH THIS MATTER HAS BEEN OCCURRING AND THE IMPACT IT HAS HAD ON YOU EITHER DOMESTICALLY OR IN BUSINESS. I AM LEAD TO BELIEVE THAT THE FAULT DOES NOT LIE WITH THE NETWORK BEARERS, BUT IN THE APPLE IPHONE DEVICES THEMSELVES
I CANNOT PROMISE TO DO ANYTHING OTHER THAN COLLATE THE EVIDENCE THAT IS COMING IN FROM SO MANY SOURCES AND PROVIDE IT TO THE MEDIA GIANTS THAT MAY CAUSE APPLE TO DO SOMETHING. FRANKLY I THINK ALL THE DEVICES SHOULD BE REPLACED WITH ONES THAT ARE FIT FOR PURPOSE OR REFUNDS GIVEN. PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR VIEW ON THIS IF WRITING TO ME. THANKS,

  • I am facing wifi and mobile 2G signal issue after upgrading to IOS 6 from IOS 5 in IPhone 3GS. Please help, restoring setting even didn't helped.

I am facing wifi and mobile 2G signal issue after upgrading to IOS 6 from IOS 5 in IPhone 3GS. The mobile carrier signal as well as WIFI suddenly drops zero and are then restored automatically. Sometimes i cannot conenct to WIFI even standing infront of WIFI router. Please help, restoring setting even didn't helped.

Update: my phone's connecting to the WiFi again. I don't know what did the trick. I did nothing since reinstalling the software. It hadn't worked then, it is now. I tried connecting to my dad's phone's hotspot( he uses a Moto G), and it worked. I then tried connecting to the WiFi at a friend's house, and when I came back home, my phone was able to connect to my WiFi! Is it of any significance that my friend's router doesn't require a password? My issue has been resolved( for now; I hope I'm not counting my chickens before they've hatched). For anyone facing a similar issue, I suggest you try everything I did:
    1. Turn your router off for a minimum of 30 seconds, turn it back on and try connecting.
    2. Click on the WiFi network you are connected to, scroll to the bottom, tap "Renew Lease".
    3. Do a soft and hard reset.
    4. Reset network settings.
    5. Back your data up, erase all content from settings menu, restore from backup.
    6. Reinstall your software( put it in recovery mode).
I am not sure which of the above worked for me. Make sure you try everything. If none of the above works, take it to a genius bar or an authorised service provider. Good luck! :)

  • IPhone 4S signal loss after upgrade to iOS6

Does anyone has experimented a remarkable issue on the signal strength after upgrading the iPhone 4s to iOS 6? I'm having a lot of problems with the reception of my phone; most of the time I only can see 3 bars, and as soon as I grip my phone (with my left hand) the signal goes away totally and the "No Service" label appears; a side effect of this is battery life is much less as the phone is alway searching for signal (in the backgroun as I don't see the searching label).
Do we really have the "Deathgrip" issue again?
Please let me know if you've seen a similar behavor on your phone and if you fixed it, thanks.

    Hi folks,
I've experienced the same symptom  - cell bars dropping away then 'Searching' message - after I installed IOS 6 on my iphone 4.  The only twist is that I only experienced the symptom when I had a location service-based app open like Apple Maps, Google Maps, Waze, or Scout.  I found a fix though!  After I reset my Network Settings the problem is gone.  Go to General --> Reset --> Reset Network Settings and activate it.  The only caveat is that you'll have to reconnect to your wifi-based network (if you have one) and type in your wifi password again.  Hope this helps.

  • Signal issues after upgrading to ios 6.1.2

ever since i've upgraded to ios 6.1.2 have had problems with my signals, hv never seen all bars; 2 at most. hv drop calls all the time. it;s irritating . tried evry thing like network resets, turning off/on 3g and lots of stuff suggested in other threads bt in vain . happened once before in one of the ios 5.something series bt ws fixed on the next ios upgrade. apple needs 2 fix this soon and launch the next update .once fixed i dnt think i'l eaisly try experimenting with ios updates.

Exactly the same as me. Updated now can not get FaceTime to work. Just hangs on the connecting page then loses connection after several seconds.
Friends calling me does the same thing.
It is not our router, I can download and upload data quickly without any problem.
Who quality controls IPads? Seems lots of mike and connection problems with Talktime at the moment. Apple must be embarrassed.

  • No signal  problem after upgrading to iOS 5

Hi, I upgraded my iphone to ios 5 but now these two weeks every so often at least twice a day my phone drops all signal bars and says no service, or has full signals but no 'Rogers' sign, so I cannot make phone call, and when people call me they said there is no answer but there is nothing shown on my phone. Also, when that happened it freezes in between when sliding between screens. After i turned off it and restart it then it goes well again. however, it often go no service during night. when that happened, all the applications dont work either, most importantly the alarm, because of this i missed one very important quiz. I have restored it once but it just occasionally loses service for no reason. some times i even get an activation required message after i turn it off. I really tired of missing my morning class...However, I just bought it from apple store online on April 28 this year, soI was wondering whether I can go to apple store to change another one since i still have one year warranty??

If you have done all the troubleshooting that the apple support site has told you to do i would go ahead and call apple and see if they can support you further.

  • Wi-fi and data signal problems after upgrade to ios 8.0.2

    Hi all,
I have an iphone 6 and updated to ios 8.0.2 two days ago (skipping the ill-fated ios 8.0.1). However, since the update my wi-fi signal is even worse and keeps dropping out, as does me 3G/4G signal.
Is anyone else having this problem? Should I (can I?) roll back to ios 8?
    Thanks!

    You are not alone.
As stated by gdgmacguy you may need to do a full reset/restore, but this may be overkill. Before putting your iPhone back to factory defaults, you should try doing a full power down cycle (press and hold the power button, slide the off switch on screen). Wait a few seconds before powering back up. Put your password in to unlock the iPhone and wait to see if your wifi/cellular signal improves. If this does not work, then you need to see if there is something else messing with the handset. The way to do this is to backup all your stuff first and then do a full factory reset. DO NOT RESTORE your iPhone yet. Let it start up as a new handset. If your wifi/cellular signal does not improve, then there is likely to be a hardware issue and you should take the handset back to your point of purchase. If your signal does improve without any apps etc, then it could well be that you have some apps using background services. Turn off background services and switch off cellular data and see if this helps with the wifi stuff. If so, then you need to go through the list of apps trying out which combination works.
iOS 8 is - in this shark's opinion - a bit of a bugfest and still has a number of issues for Apple and Developers alike. I expect to see 8.0.3 and 8.0.4 or maybe even 8.1 before too long.
    Hope this helps.

  • Problems with TV Out signal after upgrading to iOS 5.1

Has anyone experienced problems with TV Out signals on their iPad 2 using the Apple HDMI Adapter after upgrading to iOS 5.1?  I am trying to connect to my HDTV after upgrading and cintunally receive an "Unsupported Video Signal" message with a blank/back screen.  Prior to upgrading, I had no connection problems and could view TV Shows, Movies, Music Videos, Keynote, etc...without problems.  I've been unable to find any resolution to this problem, even followed Apple guidance to detach and reattach the HDMI adapter without success.  Seems like a software bug to me and it's a major problem when trying to conduct business or personal activities.  Hopeing Apple has a fix in work already...anyone else have any ideas?  Thx in advance...

Try a reset. Press & hold the Power and Home buttons together for 10+ seconds, ignoring the red power-off slider, until you see the Apple logo. It is safe to do, there should be no content loss. It is the same as rebooting your computer.
If that does not work, restore the iPad to the factory settings.

  • My iPhone 3GS lost the signal operator completely after upgrading to iOS version 6.1.2

My iPhone 3GS lost the signal operator completely after upgrading to iOS version 6.1.2, someone with the same problem? Just think when I enable the 3G, soon followed falls again.
I have already put another chip carrier and the same problem happens, my phone is factory unlocked.

Had same problem with iphone5 6.1.2 update. First tried reset network settings and didn work... Support recommend me a restore and ended up in recovery loop with iTunes error (-1)
Been at my carrier store (Optimus Portugal)... and iPhone sent to warranty. After 2 macbooks, 1 imac, 2 appletvs, 2 iphones, 1 ipod... I find disappointment with apple reliability....
At least the support guys at Optimus Portugal were very helpful and friendly, but I'll be 15 days without iPhone...

  • Loss of AP signal strength after upgrading to Clean Air on 5508's.

After upgrading three 5508's (which support 150 AP's) from WLC/WCS version  6.0.182.0 to version 7.0.98.0, our users complained about low signal strength.  Our pre-upgrade RSSI benchmarks confirmed a decrease of -10dB to -20dB signal strength across all AP's, effectively causing wireless networking to be unusable in key areas.
After confirming our Global signal strength settings in WCS and WLC's were still at the same settings they were at prior to upgrading, we contacted our VAR for advice.
He suggested that perhaps the upgrade caused all AP's to run at a lower signal strength.  He was right.
At his recommendation, we reconfigured the WCS to set two AP's to use Individual mode instead of Global mode.  This is found in Radios/802.11b/g/n/Tx Power Level Assignment.  Setting them to level 2 resulted in an average -15dB increase of RSSI, solving our problems in the test environment.  In one case we saw an increase of -30 dB for one AP.
The signal strength loss due to the upgrade was not expected, based on the upgrade documentation.  Now we must change the settings manually on the remaining 148 AP's.
I'd like to hear from anyone else who has experienced a decrease in signal strength after upgrading to Clean Air 7.  If you have information from Cisco that documents this problem, I'd REALLY like to read it.
    Hoping this may help you,
    RS

    Hi Rick,
this is not "expected" or "on purpose". It just happens that improving the RRM algorithm makes things better for 90% of the people but maybe worse for 10% of the people.
This is why you can set the Tx power treshold on the RRM or set the overal RRM algorithm sensitivity.
If you put the Tx power treshold to a louder number (=closer to 0) then the APs will reduce less their power level.
    Hope this helps.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • Unable to connect to the MS Exchange server after upgrading to ios 7.1.2

I received a new iPad 4 through work.  Upgraded to ios 7.1.2, but now I'm not able to connect to the Exchange server.  Contacted IT through work, they have no idea how to correct it.  They say all of my settings are fine.  The error message says "Cannot Get Mail   The connection to the server failed."  Any thoughts?

Appears to be a wifi connection problem. Did it work prior to the iOS update?
Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430

  • Reception / Battery problems with iPhone 3GS after upgrading to iOS 4.2.1

There are major reception and battery problems with iPhone 3GS after upgrading to iOS 4.2.1.
I can not believe that Apple did not test this for major bugs like this one is.
I am a business user and can not effort to have bad reception. Apple wants to gain in the business clients... I never had this with my former BlackBerrys!
I need a reliable phone not a play thing like this is right now, it just needs it to work propely. And if a major bug like this comes along, fix it immediately. After the iPhone4 story, now this...incredible! Going back to my reliable BlackBerry! It just ain't reliable and takes forever to fix a problem.

I have the same issue after iOS 4.2.1 update. I am using iPhone 3GS officially unlocked by Apple. I tried using different SIM cards and both carriers show same problem when using phone in 3G mode. Phone falls back to EDGE mode showing 'E' from '3G' at start. I have reset the phone and rebooted several times and moved to different cell areas in the city just to verify the problem.
I had no such issues earlier. I also have Nokia E71 which shows full signal and has no such issues.
I have posted the bug on apple iphone feedback page. I hope they Apple will fix the problem and test the release properly on all models before releasing to public.

  • My iPad Mini Retina   LTE got No Service after upgrade to IOS 8.1

After upgrading to IOS 8.1 my iPad Mini Retina lost GSM signal and No Service indication appears in top left screen.
Tried to reset, switch off without positive results.
With manual carrier search, my carrier is still in the options but no results.
    Please help

I upgraded ipad mini 2 with LTE from 7.1.2 straight to 8.1.2 hoping all the bugs are ironed out by now.... nope!
Got the free 200MB/mo Tmobile sim and 4G works.  LTE network connection seems fine.  I get an LTE next to Tmobile on the status bar.  But I get a message saying "Could not activate cellular data network.  You are not subscribed to a cellular data service." as soon as I try to use a browser.
With AT&T sim,  4G works just like Tmobile, but as soon as I switch on LTE, there is no network connection at all with "No Service" on the status bar and falls back to 4G after a while.  So seems like something broke LTE even on 8.1.2.
