3G speed drops, is it the iPad 2 or service provider?

My connection sometimes drops to around 0,33 Mbps. My service provider tells me I should get around 1-6 Mbps, and suggest there might be something wrong with the iPad modem. Any ideas?

The thing is I have measured 6.004 mbit and 0,3 on the same spot. The carrier tells me that under 1 mbit is not normal. They want me to travel to another city to see if I have the same difficulties there. But one thing I wonder is there any known problems relating to the one I have?
And thanks for your swift reply!

The OS version makes no difference to a carrier unlock.  3 do unlock their handsets but you will need to contact them to check the terms they will do it on.

Realized that speedtest.net app that everyone uses for the iPhone doesn't offically have an app for the iPad (althought you can use the iPhone version on the pad, the resolution is not there.)

  • Unlock the phone from a service provider

I have a contract with a service provider in Australia. I want to unlock the phone so I can use a sim card from USA while I am on holiday there. I have contacted the service provider and they have advised that I have to go onto iTunes to download an application to unlock the phone. Do you know the name of the application I need to download?

They are stringing you along , only the carrier can sanction the unlocking of an iPhone IF  they do as part of their terms and conditions.
Apple act as the carrier's agent by processing the unlock through iTunes no other involvement
Apple have NO say in the process totally a carrier decision

  • Speeds dropping dramatically throughout the day

Hi, my download speed has been 3-4mb down for over a year since I got bt infinity, but in the last week - 2 weeks my download speed has random periods of dropping into kb/s download speed and sometimes completely grinding to a halt, meaning opening webpages of any kind just doesnt work. Any solutions? please help.

    Hi Bombaypotato,
How are things with your connection now? Could you try running the BT Speed tester and posting back your results. You will need to run the "Further Diagnostics" once the first test completes.
    Thanks

any ideas why my broadband speed is half at best after installing iOS 8 on iPad air and iPhone 5s? Pc still gets 50-60mbs like air did before ios 8. Ipad now varies from 10-30mbs

I had same problem. Go to settings, FaceTime switch off iPhone mobile calls. This solved that issue.

  • Speed drops- can anyone help me please?

I had a consistent speed of 1 MB when I got Broadband, not marvelous but bearable.  In the past year I have had my speed  drop, go through the process of the idiots with the scripts even though I have told them the same at least 10 times previously, the speed drops to 0.47 MB, they do all the stuff checks then say there is a line problem and my profile needs redoing.  The speed has risen then to 0.7 MB and never again reached 1 MB, but after a few weeks drops to 0.47 again.  I am 99% sure that BT are " robbing Peter to pay Paul" in the area, adding more people to a network using old wires and BT with all their billions of profit won’t spend a bit on adding a bit more sophistication. In answer to my question why am I not getting 1MB, I have had replies like “ it happens”, they have tried to sell me the thing where you pay a monthly fee to look at my computer, ( My computer is well protected and cleaned out daily) and they just treat people like we are at fault.
So is there anyone who can help me to bypass the stupid scripted people who treat everyone like idiots and get someone to fix the speed, the stress of going through that performance is just too much for me.
The irony is if I wanted to sign up for BT, the estimated speed available is advertised as 1 MB, are they breaking the trade description?

Thank youu for taking the time to reply, I reset router a few hours ago in case it made a difference, not that it ever does.

  • Drastic Download/Upload Speed Drop

Hi guys, I could do with some help!
For the last week or so my broadband connection has been very slow- it dropped from around 8Mbps to 2Mbps, and it's stayed there consistently since. I've tried resetting the hub, to no avail. Also for the last couple of days getting dropped perhaps once or twice a day. Hub settings below:
It could (should be?) a coincidence, but I've just built a new system and was trying to re-download my steam library when my problems began. My first assumption was that some kind of sneaky throttling was going on, but I'm on an Unlimited package, and the download rate is the same across several programs and browsers.
Edited to provide further information: My new system is running Windows 8.1, the slow download speed is consistent across several devices (Windows 8.1 PC, Windows 7 PC, Windows Phone), and the BT Speed Test shows 8.13Mbps from the Exchange to my house, but only 1.9Mbps from the router to my PC, so I'm guessing the problem is in the router somewhere.
    Cheers.
P.S. The low connection time here is due to a manual reset.

Many thanks for the quick reply- I've tried the wholesale performance test several times (gives the same sort of connection speed), but the Diagnostic Test won't run (tried wired on two different systems). Instead, it gives the following message:
The Performance Tester is currently unable to run a speed test for your broadband connection. Please try again shortly, however if this problem persists, raise the issue with your service provider.

  • Wireless downloading speeds dropped

    Hi,
Really unsure about tech stuff but on 24/09/2014 had major issues with my wireless speed dropping hugely. The night before was able to stream TV, play games and many other activitives at the same time. The following morning found that every device I own on the property had close to 0 connection speeds though signal strength was good. Did the BT wholesale speed check found my wireless download speed was less then 1 on other occasions less than 0.1. When the ethernet was connected to the router speeds were over 37mbps so its clearly my wireless. Did the inssider check and my link score is 71, Im on channel 6 atm. Not sure if anyone has had similar issues and resolved them, BT told me the fault was on my property but seems a bit flippant as the change was so dramatic and occurred overnight. Any help would be grateful.,

  • FileSharing Transfer Speed Drops after sharing internet connection

    Hi Folks
Sometimes, when I copy files via FileSharing,
the speed drops exactly to the max. upload speed my internet connection has.
    = instead of 12 MB/s I got 600 ~700 KB/s.
I needed a bit of work to see this connection.
But after a while, it changes back to normal.
However, I did share the ethernet-internet-connection from one machine via WiFi (to surf with an iPod Touch).
Could that initiate this problem? I believe so.
    Internet-Provider is cablecom, switzerland, zurich.
I use a Zyxel Ethernet Switch to connect  two macs with the cablecom-modem (and together).
So Idetached the cablecom-modem from the ZyXel Switch and restarted both machines.
Now, the copy-action via filesharing has the expected full speed. (Just no internet, of course).
After that I connected the Cablecom-Modem again,
    restarted (PowerOff/On) the ZyXel Switch,
    and tried the same again:
    Now the speed is slow.
It seems that I really should NOT share the Ethernet Internet Connection with WiFi
Won't do that anymore because I often copy files from one machine to the other and this slow transfer speed kills me.
Why is that affecting the connection between two local machines?
How can I reset this to "normal".
I hope there is a way to do it in OS X instead of waiting until it sets itself  to "normal" from cablecom's side.
[ -Despite the fact that I should use a wireless router- ]
Is there any chance that this is an issue that OS X could resolve?
Best would probably be: the local connection between two machines should not be affected by the provider in any circumstances.
BTW: The cablecom-modem gives - via a ZyXel Switch - both computers unique IP's and they are reachable/visible from the internet.

I am doing the same thing (have tried it occasionally over the past 6 months or so and cannot install Arch because of it)...sad panda.  The downloads start fast (up to 5MB/s), then when it gets to 49% it slows all the way down until it gives up and moves to the next mirror, repeating and repeating and repeating until finally it shows:
        core is up to date
error: failed to update extra (download library error)
error: failed to update community (download library error)
:: There are 51 members in group base
        :: Repository core
Enter a selection (default=all): error: failed to prepare transaction (could not find database)
I've tried commenting out the XferCommand and using wget but that fails even worse.
Thank you for posting this, I am glad I am not the only one experienceing this.  I was about to give up searching and post too.

  • IHome for the iPad?

I want to get an iHome for the iPad, because I'd like a nice set of speakers. But the problem is the iHome is only wide enough to support either an iPhone or iPod. The base of the iPad is way too wide. Is there an iHome that can handle the iPad's wide base? Or maybe a power connector wire from the iHome to the iPad?

    extender cables...
I received the Juice cable yesterday I've done a little more experimenting.
Neither cable works reliably for syncing the iPad through any of my three USB hubs. There just isn't enough voltage after the cable resistance v drop to keep the iPad charging so the iPad 'acts funny', i.e. it continuously gives the beep and acts as if the cable is being connected/disconnected. iTunes does not see a device or gets an error when reading the iPad. This is when connected to a 500ma USB hub port through either extender cable. Both cables work as advertised when connected to my 3GS iPhone via any of the hubs, but then the iPhone has a much lower current draw so the voltage drop won't be nearly as much.
Both cables work as advertised when connected directly to a USB port on my iMac. These ports offer a bit higher current and the iPad doesn't give the 'Not Charging' indication.
From this I gather that the iPad current draw is on the ragged edge when connected to a 500ma USB port. A reduction in voltage through a longer cable run may produce the connect/disconnect cycle I have observed.
The 3Gjuice cable works fine for audio--I tested it with my iPhone FM adapter--no problems at all. The FM adapter has more charging capability so the iPad doesn't act funny. That would be the caveat--does the iHome or whichever system is used provide enough current to keep the iPad from thinking the cable is constantly being plugged/unplugged?

  • Verizon iPad not getting serviced/replaced in india

I randomly made choice of Verizon while purchasing iPad from apple online store while I was in US last month, as choice was immaterial to me as I had to use it in India.
Later on after few days of use it's screen started to blink every at interval of 10s, when I took it to service center the people refused to replace it saying its gsm + CDMA model and they can't replace it in india.
This is very bad on part of apple as it was not mentioned any where on apple online store about such issue. It only mentioned that iPad will work with local sim but not what will happen if there is some hardware issue.

The warranty on the iPad says that service may be restricted to the country of original sale, and that is indeed the case with models that are specific to the CDMA US carriers, Verizon and Sprint. Those models can only be serviced in the US.
Your choices are to send the iPad back to someone you know in the US to take or send it to Apple for service, or call Apple customer relations in the US at 1-800-767-2775  (you will have to use one of the several methods, such as using Skype, for calling a US 800 number from outside of the country) and discussing the matter with them. Posing a complaint here will do you no good, since the only people who will respond are we your fellow users.

  • "Test Error" - "raise the issue with your service ...

    Help!
I have had performance problems on my broadband for quite a while but not been able to progress. The usual number based test from BT says we should get between 4 and 7 mbps. In reality we struggle to get 2 mbps, frequently lanquishing at 1.5 mbps.
I have been onto http://speedtester.bt.com/ to get analysis on the line (previously having had problems with our profile) but whenever I try to run a test (over several weeks) I now always get the reply:
The Performance Tester is currently unable to run a speed test for your broadband connection. Please try again shortly, however if this problem persists, raise the issue with your service provider.
Following up on this with the Indian call centre was an exercise in futility, they just couldn't understand what I was talking about and just wanted to follow the usual script for speed problems. The last time I tried they said they'd found an error at the exchange which they would fix shortly. The result of the "fix" was that our phone and broadband disappeared for 4 days and resolving this came with the usual threat of charging us £99 is the problem wasn't BTs fault. The fault was fixed without any explanation but subsequently I've been reluctant to follow up the problem through this route.
I don't know how to go about getting someone to fix the problem without being able to run the speed tests that BT will accept.
I would greatly appreciate some assistance from this usually very helpful group.
    Thanks,
    Andrew

    John,
    Thank you for answering.
The details from my ASDL statistics are below. I cannot provide a BT Speedtester result - this is one of the problems I was raising. I have done a quiet line test and there is no noise. I don't have an internal master socket; I have an external grey box from which a number of wires run to various sockets.
