i have been sent a 3gp movie, how do i, or can i import this movie and convert it to another format?

why yes there is bubba622, simply open the movie in ...say real player, go to window-open real player converter drag file into converter box....convert to PC or Mac....start....movie will now upload to Imovie.

Problem with .mov importing as audio

I'm an old school filmmaker who last did intensive stuff when miniDV was king
Now I find myself at a new job shooting and editing testimonials. Everything was fine for a whole year until I tried to import video from another videographer.
I'm on a Windows 7 machine with Premiere Pro CC v.7.1.0
The note on the footage says shot on Panasonic AF150 (AF100?) 1080 p 60i
The .mov import as audio only. I have tried all kinds of sequence settings to change this. No dice.
Also, the footage has, I believe it's called, "Judder". (I can watch the footage with my QT or VLC player.)
Using a video conversion software I was able to import as MP4. But holy heck do I really have to convert all the clips before I can bring them in?
I am pretty clueless about codecs, which is likely the problem. So a quick explanation on codecs and good places to read up on them would also be extremely helpful.
Here's another issue - the videographer used a fisheye lens (or setting?) for some really nice B roll shots. Unfortunately, they are 4:3 and the interviews are 16:9! Is this common and ends up being "my problem" or did he goof?

Hyperlink to a 3gp movie?

In iWeb 08 when I add a hyperlink to a 3gp movie created in QuickTime formated for iPhone.
When I share the file the hyperlink has a .mov extension even though in my movie folder on my MobileMe iDisk shows that it is a 3gp file. The movies download and work fine with iPhone but outher phones don't becouse they think it is a .mov file becouse of the hyperlink created by MobileMe when the file is shared. How can I make the links work with all phones not just iPhone?

Certainly not with Final Cut Pro. You MIGHT be able to do this with one of the macromedia products.
Or in DVDSP you could use the DVD@ccess feature-- have your show jump to a menu page that looks like the last frame of your video, and attach the link there.
This will work on all computers: it's automatic on Macs, but for PC land they have to first install a onetime little applet that will enable the linkage.
Pretty cool feature-- this allows you to also include a lot of data info on a dvd-- pdf's etc.

When I import movies to imovies from a camcorder, the sound does not import. IPhone movies import completely.

I'm trying to import movies from a Canon camcorder into iMovie. The picture imports ok but there is no sound.
I've tried using camera connected as well as card reader. The card is a 16gb SD card.
iPhone movies import ok with sound as well as video.

Once on your computer's hard drive, use iTunes > File > Add to Library... menu to import movie to iTunes.

I instralled the After Effects trial program and it was running okay for a few days, then I was hit with a warning to reinstall plugins. How to reinstall plugin Media Core CFHD AVI importer 32 and MOV importer 32.pm?

Has anyone figure this out?
I started getting this after installing GoPro Studio 2.
Uninstalling it and even deleting the plugins manually didn't work, and neither did reinstalling AE.
All I could get was stop getting the error message at start-up but the problem is that any .AVI file that I import only plays audio, no video.
Please, any help appreciated.

Does iMovie alter movies imported at full 1080i (1920x1080) ?

I have a new Sony HDR HC9 1080i camcorder (Mini DV tape).
I heard rumors that iMovie converts movies imported at full 1920x1080 to something like 900 x 480.
Is there any truth to this ugly rumor?

This not not exactly true.
iMovie imports movies into Event files at the same resolution as their source. If you import 1920x1080 in AVCHD, the event contains an AIC file in 1920x1080.
However, when you use the Event footage in a project, the standard iMovie pre-sets for rendering top out at 960x540 (which is exactly half of 1920x1080). However, by using the Export to QuickTime option, it is possible to render in full 1920x1080.
However, for most people, the 960x540 is good enough. It is about the largest size that can be reasonably streamed over the internet. It is the largest size accepted by the Apple TV. And it easily upscales to 1920x1080 on a high quality receiver/TV with upscaling circuitry. If you are burning a DVD, it will be downscaled to 480i anyway.
As I mentioned, you can export in full 1920x1080 through QuickTime. The issue is "How do I play it?". Some people have reportedly been successful playing these files on a Sony Playstation 3. The new version of Toast allows you to Author BluRay DVDs and you may be able to play them on a BluRay player. You can also play them on your Mac Screen if you have the display resolution set high enough. A 1920x1080 will take up most, if not all, of your computer screen.
As for the Toast BluRay option: It is not practical for me to buy a BluRay burner for USB, since these run over $1000. The SATA BluRay burners are around $300, but my iMac does not have an external SATA port. However, with Toast 9, they claim you can make a BluRay-playable disk from a standard DVD. It holds about 20 minutes of high def content. I am going to burn a BluRay disk using the same project rendered in 1920x1080 and 960x540 to see if I can tell the difference.

Why the movie imported from iPhone is cutting off so many time?

The movie imported to iphoto took by iphone 4S is able to play but is cutting off (Skipping) so many time.
It is very smooth to play on 4S. However not on iphoto (Quick time) some reason.

Can't Move Imported Skype Recording in GarageBand

Hi all,
I run GB 10.0.2 on my MBP (OSX 10.9.2).
I record a conversation in Skype using Call Recorder 2.5.8
Whenever I import (drop & drag) a recorded track to GB, I can't move it and it shows a little lock Inside the track.
I can cut parts out of the track, but I can't move it left or right.
I can create a new track and drag it there. But the lock doesn't disappear, and the track won't move.
I've looked in the Locked settings of GB and there (on the left sidebar) it shows as being unlocked.
How do I solve this?

We would help, if we knew the answer, Chris. I have not worked with Call Recorder 2.5.8. So I cannot check the output format of that program, and we are supposed to try all advice on our own computer before recommending a solution. So I can give you only a general idea what to check for.
What you are describing, is very typical for movie tracks. If you import a video instead of an audio file to GarageBand 10.0, the audio file track will be locked and cannot be moved. What is the format of the media files you are importing to your GarageBand project? If you want to edit the audio, try to extract the audio from your recorded conversation with the tools provided by "CallRecorder" and import only the audio, not the video.
If that does not work, use GarageBand to extract the audio from your conversation. After importing your saved conversation to a track, share the track (Share > Export song to disk) as an audio file to your disk. Then reimport the shared audio and delete the previous track. Now you should be able to edit the audio properly.

Hi8 Movie Import

Hello All,
I have been using my Sony DCR-TRV510 connected via FireWire to import my home movies recorded in Digital 8 format without issue.
Now I want to import my old Hi8 tapes, which play fine on the camera, but do not play out via firewire. Are there any recommendations on how to get this footage on my computer without purchasing another device... retaining the time stamp on the footage would be nice as well

Know the DCR-TRV520 would. Unfortunately, I believe another user previously indicated the DCR-TVR510 was not hardwired to convert Hi-8 based on his conversations/discussions with Sony USA regarding the same problem. Believe this individual decided to go with the Sony GV-D200 Digital8/Hi-8 Walkman Player/Recorder for editing all of his old Hi-8 tapes. Unfortunately, I'm not sure this model (lists for about $699 but supposedly as low as $400-$500 "on the street" or $199 Refurbished from Sony Style USA) is now listed as "out of stock" everywhere I checked. May mean the model is no longer available.
The reason I ask is I have several boxes of Hi8 tapes and would like to retain the date and time coding on them if at all possible.
You take your chances here. Correct readout of DTG data seems to be "hit or miss" based on the numerous posts here.

QT movie batch conversion in iPhoto library

i would like to ask for some suggestions on the following scenario: our iPhoto lib has grown rather big after 2 years of using a 720p HD camera. upon evaluating size to quality it appears that one can live with a smaller size movie format, such as the AppleTV 960x540 m4v, which plays better on laptops and lesser machines and also fits well with iMovie presets - in all, quite an acceptable compromise, but most consumer HD cameras have either 1080p or 720p shooting modes. as said, for home use, one can implement the 960x540 standard without much loss of quality for better use flexibility, especially if you employ a Mac Mini to a HD TV as we do, but the clips have to be re-saved.
so here is the question - how to convert multiple movie entries in the iPhoto library to Atv format, without loosing metadata, such as date and time? QT obviously puts the current data/time on the new m4v file. i did try several things with limited success - Automator can do this batch conversion (but no custom one, this is how i got to the Atv format in the first place); once you select the movies in an iPhoto event, go 'show in finder' - they appear highlighted in the Finder window. chances are they will be in in the same folder, A converts them to desktop or any given location, then you re-import the files to iPhoto, compare the date and time to the original, hit the 'batch change', adjust date/time and delete old files.... but a bit time consuming altogether.
would there be any Automator workflow or AppleScript to ease the task in larger batches, since one can filter all movies in a smart album? or anything else for that matter? tnx in advance!

Do you still have an untouched copy of your V2 library folder? If so, copy it to your Pictures library replacing the one you've tried to updated. Then download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, putting your administrator login name, long or short, in the owner and group sections. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field.
Now launch iPhoto and see if the upgrade will go thru successfully.
Also you might try rebuilding the V2 library with iPhoto 2 before copying to the Pictures folder.
If you don't have copy of the library folder then run BatChmod as mentioned before and launch iPhoto.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. .MOV IMPORT STILL NEEDS RENDERING?

Working with project shot in hdv and tried importing a .mov file (from google earth).
Two problems:
1. Needs render and takes very long time to do it.
2. Once rendered and viewable, if clip is moved in timeline it needs to re-render.
I'm trying to match 'item properties' before importing, but my copy of AVCware doesn't have the right parameters.
Am I doing something wrong, or do I need some other type of conversion software?

That's because your clip settings is not matching the sequence settings.

Convert the material into an editing codec like ProRes or DV. Then create a sequence with same settings and the problem will be solved.

3gp files | import into iMovie?

Does anyone know how I can get 3gp video files (that I took on my cellphone) into iMovie for editing.
I would have thought there would be some sort of automated conversion but iMovie doesn't seem to like the file format.......

I am wondering the same thing. The fact that iMovie will export 3gp usually would indicate that the user can import it. I am capable of converting these files into an iMovie acceptable format, but would prefer not to if it can be avoided.
