3gs and iphoto/itunes issue

Hi am having a few problems with my iphone. It’s a 3GS running iOS4. Hope someone can help!
I plugged it into my Mac last night to take some photos off, but for some reason iPhoto didn’t do its usual auto-start. When I went in, it only showed about 10 or so of the photos on my phone (there are about 70 odd on there). I tried to sync, but it go tstuck in a loop and froze up
Also, itunes has stopped recognising my phone, error message reads "The iPhone canot be synced. The required disk cannot be found"
And now the camera roll is acting up. new photos taken this morning didn't appear on the roll until about 1/2 an hour after they were taken
Anyone got any ideas? My iphone has been faultless up until now (had it since January). I have had no problems with iOS4 until now

Have you tried resetting the phone?
Hold the home and sleep buttons till you see the apple logo, ignoring the swipe to turn off.
Once you see the apple logo, let go of the buttons and wait to boot up again.
On you mac, Fully quit iTunes and iPhoto with cmdQ.
Then start iTunes then plug in you phone and see if it recognizes it.

Q: i have recently aquired an iPhone 3GS and need iTunes do activate it.But iTunes wont download onto my computer. I am running Windows Vista Service Pack 2. Please HELP!!

I'd first try experimenting with a different browser. If you've been using IE for the download, try Firefox instead (or vice versa).
If no luck there, there's some other suggestions in the following document. (You're not getting the error message, but your problem here falls into the same general class of download trouble.)

  • Clean install and iPhoto/iTunes

I will probably do a clean install with Snow Leopard (format my hard disk and install Snow Leopard). I have backups of all my data and I know which applications to reinstall.
However, I am wondering about my iPhoto and iTunes libraries, I do not want to add all those faces again to my photos or lose the stats for my music and such... so my question is, how to I keep those?
Could I just restore the iPhoto library from a backup since all my photos are actually in it?
And what about the iTunes library? I have my music on an external hard drive, so I guess the library just links to those files. How do I not lose my stats like "last played", "play count" and such?

Drag the iTunes and iPhoto libraries from the Music and Photos items in the Finder's sidebar to the external drive, and put them back when done. If the entire iPhoto library has been backed up, that'll work.

  • IPhoto and iTunes issues.

    Good Afternoon Everyone,
I am having some problems with my iPhoto at the moment. I have over 15,000 images in the library, and they all appear in thumbnail format under their respective dates, however when I double click on any image between roughly image 6942 and 12428 to enlarge it and look at it on full screen, a blank window is all I see, there isn't even a thumbnail of it where it should appear in full size.
Can anyone suggest what I could do to rectify this problem?
I have archive and installed the original OS X discs, as suggested by an apple store rep and it hasnt fixed the problem.
Also now iTunes gives me an error msg when I try to run it saying that it will not run with this version of OS after the reinstall. Previously, iTunes would not connect to the apple store either, and would not find the CCDB info when importing a new CD, and he also told me that an arch and inst would fix this.
Maybe a couple of probs here, but the iPhoto is the most pressing I guess.
I would appreciate any suggestions or knowledge!
    Cheers Trent.

Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). A Finder Window should open with the file selected. Does it?
As to the iTunes issue, best to pop that one over to the iTunes forum:

  • ITunes and iPhoto issues

When trying to sync my Apple TV and iPhone after the 7.7 update, iTunes will only recognize "Last Import", and "Last 12 Months" folders. It will not show any of my events. When I choose to import all photos and albums, they come over, but all uncategorized.

upon connecting you iphone / apple TV with itunes 7.7, has it frozen itunes? I have got iphoto to work, but the itunes issue persists. Any ideas other that deleting the preferences com.apple stuff or reinstalling itunes?

There are a lot of posts in the forums today with people having problems with iMessage.   There was also a published outage yesterday, so it's possible there are still some issues that may be impacting you both.
I would just wait it out - I'm sure it will be sorted out soon.

  • IOS4 on 3GS and Photo / Video syncing issues. TRY THIS

THIS FIX IS ONLY ANY GOOD IF YOU ARE WILLING TO TRASH ANY CAPTURED VIDEO ON YOUR IPHONE
    iOS4 only.
Yep, the same as a lot of people here I am having no end of problems syncing photo's and video from my iPhone 3GS running iOS4.
I get the same black boxes and stuff. iPhoto hangs on import.
Tried image capture. Told me it was syncing 47 items out of the 47 items in my photo folder on the iphone, only 16 items copied across.
iPhoto or image capture not deleting the files after import.
After much deliberation and mucking around I have found it's the video's that were causing the problem. Luckily for me the video's on my iPhone were not important so I deleted them from the phone. Re connected to iPhoto, synced and deleted originals after import - hey presto it worked. Only issue remaining was the black boxes in the photo library on the iPhone. A quick re sync of the photo's tab in iTunes and viola - everything A OK.
Problem is I now know it's an issue with the video files and iPhoto since iOS4 update. Video was working fine before iOS4
Come on Apple - sort this bug out.

Open the iPhoto or Image Capture preferences and set them not to open when a camera is connected to the computer.

  • Question regarding iPhone4 and iTunes issue

I posted this on iPhone main forum and no response- i am hoping that someone can shed some light for me...would be much appreciated
ok- so, i have an existing iTunes account (current version 9.2)- i previously had ONE device attached to it- my 3Gs that i upgraded to my iP4 with.
I did not wipe my 3Gs- as i sent it to my daughter who placed her SIM from her 3G into it- HOWEVER, since activating my iP4 the only phone that has been synched to my iTunes is the new iP4- i was able to transfer all of my 90 apps- FINE- but i have an issue with my audiobooks-I keep getting this message when i try to put any of my audiobooks onto my iP4:
"THE PHONE "JILL...." IS SYNCED WITH ANOTHER ITUNES LIBRARY. DO YOU WANT TO ERASE THIS IPHONE AND SYNC WITH THIS ITUNES LIBRARY? AN IPHONE CAN BE SYNCED WITH ONLY ONE (1) iTUNES LIBRARY AT A TIME. ERASING AND SYNCING REPLACES THE CONTENTS OF THIS iPHONE WITH THE CONTENTS OF THIS LIBRARY"
ummm, my question is: A) What other Library might they be referring to? It syncs fine on this one and only iTunes account i have had for years- B) i am concerned WHAT exactly will be erased and replaced??? What is the point of this message if the APPS on the phone are from my one and only library?
I originally thought that maybe i was getting this message because all of the audiobooks had been previously loaded onto my 3Gs and i did not care- as i had already listened to them. BUT I just paid $26 for a new audiobook from iTunes and want it on my iP4- and it STILL gives me this message...
    ANYONE?

Do you have more than one user account in iTunes?
Sounds like you are logged into another account, one different from what you originally synced with.

  • I updated my macbook pro, received may 2011 and now iTunes, iPhoto, and keynote won't work. What should I do?

In May 2011, I received my macbook pro. I updated it a while ago. When I tried to open iTunes it wouldn't work, so I deleted it from my computer and downloaded it again. The same thing happened with iPhoto, but I couldn't find a download for it. And now Keynote isn't working...What should I do?

Here are some suggestions for getting the best results from this site.
Create a user profile that accurately reflects your version of the Mac OS, or include that information in your first message.
Give details of the problem. A statement such as "it doesn't work" conveys no information. If it did work, you wouldn't be here. Instead, you should post something like this: "I did A; I was expecting B; but I got C instead." Include the complete text of any error messages you saw and where you saw them: in an application window, a CrashReporter window, a log, or whatever. Also include the steps you’ve taken yourself, if any, to try to resolve the issue. If the problem is of recent origin, did you make any changes to your setup just before you first noticed it? Is the problem reproducible or intermittent? That is, does it always manifest itself when you take a certain action, or only at unpredictable times?
Before posting, ask yourself whether it’s likely that you are the the only person ever to have had this problem. If not, search the discussions for answered questions similar to yours. If you found any relevant information, but it didn't help, include details.
Post in the appropriate discussion area. Usually that means the area for the type of Mac you're using, if the problem is hardware-related, or for the Mac OS version you’re running, if it’s more software-related. Some other Apple technologies -- including iPhoto, iTunes, and Keynote -- have their own discussion areas.

  • 2007 Macbook Pro suddenly coding over files, pictures, deleting itunes and iphoto albums, after it had been dropped in late november 2010. Apple specialists say they cannot find anything wrong. HELP!

I have a Macbook Pro, the last generation, not the most recent one. It fell about 2 feet in late November 2010 and had the screen and logicboard replaced right after. A day or two after that, I started to notice that my word documents, pictures files, pdf files, itunes library and iphoto library were coded over and deleted out of nowhere. When I click on it, it says it is not a compatible format or cannot be read, etc. However, this doesn't happen all the time and not with every file. I could open a new word document and begin it today, and tomorrow it will not be retreavable, but I have a document on my desktop that has been there since January and can still be opened, so this happens without warning.
I have taken it in to the Genius Bar at my local Apple store several times with this problem, and they say they cannot see anything wrong with my computer. On my most recent visit, the lady told me to buy an external hardrive, transfer everything onto it, then do a complete clean out of my computer and reboot it I guess. If it doesn't continue, then that might have been the problem, but if it does continue, then it is obviously not that. I am really confused and I don't know if I should trust that this is the problem or just go ahead and buy a new computer all together. I don't have applecare anymore.
    Help me!!! I am desperate.

Does your MBP still have its original hard drive? If so, it may have started to go south. The average useful life of a notebook drive is 3-5 years, and if yours is the original, it would be about 4 years old. The drop could also have affected it.
It might be worth booting from your install disc and repairing your boot disk. It sounds like you could have some directory issues. Repair until there is nothing left to repair. If Disk Utility cannot repair the drive, you will need a stronger utility like Disk Warrior or possibly a new drive.
It also sounds like you may have some software corruption, which can happen if you have hard drive problems. Have you tried reinstalling the OS? You would want to make a backup first on an external drive and then use the archive and install feature and then update the OS.
You might want to download and run SMART Utility:
    http://www.volitans-software.com/smart_utility.php
You can download the demo and run it several times for free. SMART Utility seems to be somewhat more critical than Disk Utility, and may be able to detect impending drive failure sooner.
If the drive checks out OK, then you can follow the advice you got from the genius and make a clone of your boot drive using Super Duper or carbon Copy Cloner on the external drive. You could boot from the clone you made and see how your Mac does when booted from a different drive. If all is good, you can reformat the internal drive and clone back to it.
If all you need is a replacement hard drive, then your Mac is likely worth fixing. I too have a 2007 MBP, and I replaced my hard drive right after Applecare expired, as the drive started to fail a week after Applecare ran out. I put in a Western Digital 500 GB 7200 RPM Scorpio Black, and have been running on it ever since. I have also upped my RAM to 6 GB and my OS to Lion. Not all the features of Lion work on a 2007 MBP--the trackpad does not support Gestures, and AirDrop is not supported. Even so, I expect this Mac to last me a few more years.
iFixit has instructions for replacing the hard drive, and OWC has both good RAM and kits for hard drive replacements. My gut feeling is that your hard drive is behind the weird symptoms you are experiencing.
If you are ready for a new computer, by all means get one--there are some great choices. However, you should be able to fix your old Mac for not very much money and get some more use out of it.
    Good luck!

  • I just synced my iPhone 3GS and lost songs..they don't show in my itunes account either and I downloaded them from ITunes to the Phone

  • 3gs and I've never backed it up so I decided I should. Says ok to disconnect so I do. Checked music and have 42 of some 435ish artists. Where is my ridiculously expensive music collection? Only voice memos in itunes library. Restore failed to fix.

Years ago I bought a 3gs and have never backed it up so after I cracked the screen I figured it would be a good idea to do so. I download iTunes and plug in the phone. Drivers load then backup in the summary. Everything goes as planned and iTunes tells me it's ok to disconnect. 3 voice memos were synced. Out of all my music, some 435ish 4.5 days of music didn't sync which I downloaded at considerable expense. I thought that was weird so I checked my library on the phone and I have new picture albums from deep within my laptop of junk I saved to reference and I have 42 artists on my phone. Really? I didn't tell iTunes to put pictures on the phone or to take my music off. I just wanted to save my stuff incase the broken screen let in moisture. I hook it up again to restore it and see if that helps and it tells me it will delete what's left of my once great collection because there is already a copy of my file on YOURNAMEHERE-PC. I clicked cancel as that would only add to my problems. I bought this phone new from AT&T in 2010 and it has never been hooked up to any computer that I'm aware of and it's always been password protected. *** is up with that and where did all my stuff go? Then support wanted money to provide support. I knew apple products were somewhat of a scam after losing my first 3gs to an otter box failure but this is ridiculous. Lost the first on to a pool when the otter box clip broke and I had to buy all my music back but this time their program may have possibly robbed me so I have to pay them a third time? I'd love it if anybody could point me in the right direction to resolve this issue and one thing is certain, I'll never buy another apple product again!

I have to tell you that music is not backed up to iTunes backup or iCloud backup file. You should check the part what is in iTunes backup. So, that's why you have not seen these songs after the backup. Of course, because of that, restore can't fix it. And only iTunes store purchased songs on your iPhone can be transferred to iTunes (connect your iPhone to computer > launch iTunes > in iTunes File menu, there is an option for Device 'Transfer purchases'). As for other non-itunes purchased songs, you should find a third-party tool to copy songs from iPhone to iTunes or computer. Search in Google, then you can find a suitable one.

  • ITunes 10.1.2 and iPhoto 8.1.2 Not Syncing Properly

I'm running iTunes 10.1.2 and iPhoto 8.1.2 on Mac OS X 10.6.6. I'm syncing to an iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 4G.
I've discovered that photo syncing to both the iPhone and iPod Touch is not happening correctly. In fact, when I compare the Albums and Events listed in iTunes with the Albums and Events that actually exist in iPhoto, they are different. The albums and events listed in iTunes are from some time in the past (months ago). Any changes in iPhoto are not reflected in iTunes. Syncing the iPhone or iPod Touch does not work correctly when iPhoto is set as the source. I can successfully set a folder of JPEGs as the source, but iPhoto as a source doesn't work properly.
As per Apple's suggestion, I tried deleting the iPod Photo Cache from inside the iPhoto Library. This did not make any difference.
In fact, I've even deleted albums from iPhoto, yet they are still listed in iTunes. *The list of Albums and Events in iTunes photo syncing does not correctly reflect the actual contents of iPhoto*.
How do I fix the link between iTunes and iPhoto so that the Albums and Events are correctly updated?
    Thanks.

I've since determined that the problem is not isolated to iTunes, and in fact the problem lies with iPhoto. As such, I've posted a new question within the iPhoto area:

  • Any way to restore iTunes and iPhoto libraries from failed Time Machine backup?

Is there a way to restore iTunes and iPhoto libraries from an unmountable Time Machine backup?
Background: I received an update alert on my iMac (mid-2010, 1TB) from Time Machine (wirelessly connected to a Time Capsule, 2TB 2013)  that it required an update and required rebooting, of course, it happened when I was in the middle of a project and I postponed the restart for later.  That evening I turned off the computer and coincidentally the next morning, the iMac would not start; it loaded to the Apple logo and about an 1/8 of the progress bar would load before the iMac would turn off.
The iMac had been fine to that day (OS upgrades and all since 2010) so I was assuming something misfired when I declined the Time Machine update. I tried the PRAM and SMC resets mentioned in the forums but no dice. I then went into Disk Utility to try repairs and there were errors on the hard drive that could not be fixed. My next step was to erase the drive and restore from my Time Machine backup. Before doing that I checked Disk Utility and to my horror,  it told me that my Time Machine backups were unmountable so of course my first thought was that all my files were gone.
The TC was under warranty so I called support and they referred me to the local Genius Bar. The Genius was great and showed me that my files weren't lost even though the Time Machine backup was unmountable. They recommended I erase the partitions, starting from scratch and I would have to transfer the Time Machine backup files manually by directly connecting an ethernet cable from the TC to the computer. If that didn't work, the hard drive was bad and needed replacement which they could take care of.
I followed their recommendation and the hard drive is fine. I was so relieved to hear that my files were safe that I forgot to ask about all of the metadata that was lost in iTunes (de-selected songs, playlists, rankings, play counts) and iPhoto (geotags, names, etc). Any ideas / help? I sank considerable time into my music and photos and would love to have that time back.
FWIW, I'm in the process of buying an external hard drive as a secondary backup to the TC as my confidence is a little shaken on the product line - the first time I ever actually need a backup and the backup is unmountable. My whole point of spending a little more and buying into the Apple ecosystem for a backup solution was to streamline the backup process and avoid these types of issues.

Thank you for the reply. I tried the Disk Utility to repair my TC's Time Machine backup disk with no luck, it stopped with the message:
    Disk utility stopped repairing "iMac"
Disk Utility can't repair this disk. Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed-up files.
It took a night but I was able to copy all the TC Time Machine files to the external hard drive as a backup to a backup just in case. I'm still pretty bummed the TC's backup didn't allow for Disk Utility's restore functionality. Fortunately, the iPhoto library backup I dragged to the iMac from the Time Capsule backup worked without a hitch. On the downside, the "iTunes Library.itl" backup I dragged over is locked so now I'm checking out the forums for any ways to fix that. I temporarily created a new iTunes library with all my apps and music but plan on reverting to the old iTunes library if possible so I can start syncing my iOS devices again.

  • I recently lost access to external hard drive connected to my iMac (no icon visible). My iTunes and iPhoto files are accessed from this drive.  I can't seem to get the time machine to restore these two. that drive was NOT excluded from time machine backup

    Hi.
help!  recently I noticed  the external drive icon missing from my desktop...the one with my huge itunes and iphoto libraries. I tried several things but couln't get it back. So I tried to restore to an older date in time machine with no success. I'm sure the drive was not set for exclusion from the backups. Any thoughts as to where i'm going wrong? I was under the impression that external drives were also backed up with time machine...am I delusional?

Frequently doing a SMC reset will help this issue, for directions please click the iMac SMC and PRAM reset link. Also check the obvious such as cables and connections. Or it's even possible the EHD has failed, they can and do.
