On each device check the following in the Settings app.
Settings > Messages > Send and Receive
Make sure the proper phone numbers and/or email address is selected on each. Deselect those that you don't want to use an a particular device.

3GS I Phone Static/Interference - Does anyone else have this problem??

I bought the 3GS on a 24 month contract at the beginning of this month and have noticed that even though my phone is not receiving a call - its interfering being static with my fixed line at work. Its horrible and annoying as my fixed line at work rings and all you can hear is the interference of the I Phone colleagues started complaining - so I turned off the push notifications and wifi connection at work bearing in mind the phone isnt even on my desk!!! but it causing so much interference and this has resorted to me turning my phone OFF!!!!
I have never had this problem with any other phone.
The static/interference happens when in the car and it affects the radio!!!
What is going on? does anyone have any suggestions?
I called O2 and they were like dont know what that could be and we cant do anything!!! So now what???? Im not happy at all .....I dont have insurance on my phone either.

Perhaps I should clarify my question. When I schedule alerts (reminders) in my calendar the phone reverses them. Example: Alert 1 - 1 day; Alert 2 - 1 hour. When I save the reminders the phone reverses them. Example: Alert 1 now reads 1 hour and Alert 2 reads 1 day. So frustrating. I've even tried putting them in reverse order and saving them and the phone then keeps them in the right order. I think my phone is possessed...JK

Distribution List from outlook won't synch to 3GS I phone

I've created a distribution list in my Outlook contacts so I can email a group of people from my iphone but it won't synch over to the phone contacts. Any suggestions

If you didn't get all the apps from 3GS, chances are it's because you haven't transfered purchases recently from the 3GS. Connect the 3GS to your computer and in iTunes go to File >Transfer Purchases to get any apps and music on the iphone into your itunes library.
It's hard to tell from your post whether your computer is syncing at all witht he 4S. If it is, you should get all the apps next time you sync. If it's not, the first thing to check is your version of iTunes. Make sure you are using 10.5 or later or it won't be compatible with the 4S.
As far as wiping your 3GS, just go to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content And Settings. This will set it up like a new iphone.

I just recieved my new iphone 3gs that I got thanks to my step dads upgrade, I now have a problem because I am trying to use it for my number but when I get to itunes to ativate it shows my step dads number. Please tell me how I can get around this. I tried putting my old sim in, I tried calling att and they said they would take care of the number situation but they did nothing about the number showing up wrong in itunes. Thanks

Same issue. I upgraded my daughter's phone, prior to ATT's announcement of its modified upgrade policy, thinking this well could happen but figuring, what the heck. I am not sure there is a way "around" this, since AT&T are entitled to make sure the terms of their purchase plan are respected, but if anyone has a way, would love to know it. Otherwise, I'll just wait a few days for the next one to show up.

Sorry, my bungle - from what devices I am used to - these Apple things still have me confused at times.
The core requirement is the same - to get the contacts from the 4S onto the 3GS without backing up the whole device/apps etc.
And a second part of that is how to get the contacts onto a SIM for a device that DOES store them there. No doubt that will be a problem as it only has name/number combos, not all the fruit the iPhone keeps under a contact. Maybe it can't done. A simple export to CSV or something that could be edited would suffcie if there were an import tool to get it onto the SIM in the simpler format.

3GS Sprint Phone Cannot Work?

Today I've been having trouble with my Iphone Sprint 3gs. Apparently, my brothers have the same exact phone that I'm using, but their phone work, but mine's can't. I have just purchased an iPhone 3GS 8gb warranty replacement phone. This phone was on a contract with O2 which has now expired. To register the phone I had to insert an O2 sim but now that it is registered I can use any sim in the phone with no issues. Does this mean the phone is unlocked or do I still need to apply to O2 to unlock the phone?

Thank you. Do you have any idea why when I reset the iPhone it will only accept an O2 sim to register. I have upgraded phone from iOS 5 to 5.01 and it still works okay with any sim once registered. Would I be correct in saying that I should keep an O2 sim incase the iPhone ever needs resetting?

E-mail addresses don't transfer from Windows Contacts to 3GS i phone

In preparation for my new i phone 3GS I completed all details in Windows Contacts. On syncing using Itunes, via cable connection, all names,addresses and phone numbers were transferred but none of the e-mail addresses. Yet I can now enter a new contact in Windows Contacts and all the info, including the e-mail address is transferred to the phone. Similarly I can add the e-mail addresses direct to the i phone for my existing contacts and they remain on both the phone and Windows Contacts after syncing without any problem. I don't however relish typing all my e-mail addresses into the i phone. Can anyone help please. (In case it's relevant I previously had an o2 xda Zest operating Windows Mobile 6.1 which I may have synchronised at some time using Windows Mobile Device Centre but latterly this hadn't worked so I merely connected using the xda as a storage device)

4.0.2 upgrade on 3GS and phone dead in five hours! Help!

I have had this done to me once on my OG iphone after a update...I hooked it up got an update after being fully chaged and went to complete black screen would not turn on or reseted...I tried hooking it back up with no results, which usually worked if black screen ever occured. Finally I had to play the waiting game let my battery completly drain and than plug it up than by magice it appeared on.

99.9% of the time, the cause of this issue is the fact the phone was jailbroken/hacked to unlock it for use on networks other than the network the phone was originally locked to. Apple maintains a database of officially unlocked iPhones, and when Apple's servers detect phones such as yours, activation stops & you get the message you got.
So, you need to get a sim card from the carrier the phone was originally locked to, or get it officially unlocked, if you want to activate it. Because it appears that it was not officially unlocked.
Apple has started to get "tough" with hacked iPhones, & simply won't permit their activation.

IOS4 update 3GS now phone is junk

Up graded to IOS4 and now my phone freezes in any application I use. I can't get out of any app once I go to it without doing a complete re-boot. Home button does not work at all now.
Anyone else having this problem? Oh yes I did do a clean re-install of os and it did nothing to fix this. Does anyone know if it is possible to re-install older versions of os for the phone.????
One other thing....can't use touch screen to go back or forward through the screens either.

I assume nothing is lost on your phone? you still retain all photos, phonebook, bookmarks, etc???
Although photos and videos in your iPhone's Camera Roll are included with your iPhone's backup, photos and videos in the Camera Roll can and should be imported by your computer as with any other digital camera. Not a good idea to depend on your iPhone and your iPhone's backup alone for this data. Your iPhone can be lost or stolen or develop a hardware problem and if there is also a problem with your iPhone's backup in regards to this particular data, this data can be lost when restoring from the backup.
Although contacts are also included with your iPhone's backup, not a good idea to depend on your iPhone alone for this data which can be lost or stolen, and/or on your iPhone's backup for the same reason. Your contacts should be available on your computer and synced with a supported address book application on your computer as designed and intended.
Safari bookmarks are also included with your iPhone's backup and are also designed to be synced with a supported browser on your computer.
