3gs in recovery mode

My 3GS won't turn on, unless its plugged into the wall charger or my idock, and then it says plug into itunes, which i did and select restore phone, but once i did that it said my phone could not be restored that it was in recovery mode and that there was an error. Now it won't read on my PC or my Mac. Is this fixable is my phone done?

Open iTunes on computer, then connect iPhone to computer, then hold both Home and Power buttons until iTunes recognizes iPhone in Recovery Mode. This usually takes about 20 seconds of holding both buttons. Restore the iPhone Firmware. If the restore Errors, write down the Error Message onto paper so you can look up the cause and fix for the error.

Can't get iPhone 3GS to recovery mode

I have an old iPhone that I haven't used for over a year. Naturally I couldn't remember the passcode. I tried all the versions of getting it to Recovery mode but none of those worked. When pressing the home and sleep buttons the slider never went off. Likewise when starting the phone, pressing the home while connecting the cable never got me to Recovery. Nor did the DFU mode instructions. Now I've ran out of attempts in unlocking the phone, it just tells me to connect the phone to iTunes. Well, surprise, it still won't connect. It gives me the "can not connect to iTunes. Cancel - Try again"-pop-up every time.
I'm wondering if that is because the iTunes is a much newer version than the phone? Or is my home button broken? Pressing the home button doesn't wake the phone up from sleep, should it. My iPhone 5 it does but I can't remember what the functionality was in 3GS.
Any suggestions? Should I try to find an older version of iTunes or what. I tried it with both a Macbook and a PC, same response on both.
Very grateful for any suggestions, my son really (I mean REALLY!) would like to get his hands on the phone...

Pressing the home button should wake up the display if the phone is powered on. It sounds to me like the home button is toast on your phone if it refuses to enter recovery mode.
You can bring it to an Apple store and they can confirm that for you if you'd like.

3GS Enters Recovery Mode randomly!

3GS bought when new, is now randomly entering Recovery Mode. Seems like it does it more often than not when I am out of town and away from my computer.
It has been doing this since 4.0 release. It is now starting to do it more frequently.
Any idea's would be helpful as I am about 2+ hours away from a Apple Store.

It has enterered Recovery Mode again, this time I cannot get it out. I was running iOS 5 B7, so I tried restoring to that, I get the message "the iphone iphone could not be restored. this device isn't eligible for the requested build".
So ok, not a biggy I will just go back to 4.3.5, nope. I get error 1015. Now I put the phone into DFU mode(black screen only) and try both ways. Nothing, it gets to installing my new firmware and either itunes crashes when it gets close to finishing or the same errors pop back up.
So now I downloaded a few different softwares, TinyUmbrella, and Recboot, those do not work either.
Any ideas?

3gs in recovery mode switches off and on when trying to restore

Was updating my 3gs when about 3 quarters of the way through, cable was knocked out and phone went into recovery mode. Now when I try to restore, the phone switches off and then on again during recovery (the 'extracting software' part), and once it has finished 'extracting software' it cannot find the iphone to finish the restore. I am running latest itunes and Windows XP.

Hi, I'm assuming you're waking your computer up from it's sleep. The beep usually indicates that either your battery is low and you need to connect your charger or the beep is notifying you that there is a charger connected when awaking your computer from sleep mode. A bit of background: phone was thought stolen and declared to Police as such. Found it later and cancelled theft declaration. In meantime provider had blacklisted IMEI number. After IMEI number was rehabilitated, was instructed by provider to restore Iphone in Itunes to be able to use it again. But normal restore failed and phone got into recovery mode. Keep getting following error message: "Iphone could not be restored. This device isn't eligible for the requested build".
Checked all software up-to-date. Tried to troubleshoot with test in Teminal, firewall off, identifying ports... Still getting same error message. Anybody successfully restored Iphone in similar situation? Any help much appreciated, thanks.

Having the same problem. I updated and my phone suddenly showed minimal battery power and turned off. Now I it is stuck in a power cycle and won't boot up, gets to the apple screen and cycles power. I ahve been trying torecover all day, but after it downloads I get a network error message. Anyone have an answer or did Apple just hose us all.

Since a few days ago my iphone just randomly keeps going into recovery mode! Its not jailbroken its not anything! its just a iphone I bought updated in iTunes normally I dont understand why this is happening! I had loads of issues restoreing it at first it would not work error -1 came up in iTunes and then all of a sudden it booted as a new iphone. I thought great I got it working again but now if I turn my iPhone off it goes into recovery mode or just randomly it will go into revocery mode and tell me I need to activate my phone.

Hardware can fail with a partial or complete failure without being dropped.
Once again, if the iPhone is constantly going into recovery mode it has a major problem. If no change after restoring the iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from the backup, the iPhone has a hardware problem.

Not only will the warranty be void, you will have given up your ability to get a discounted out of warranty replacement phone.

My iPhone is stuck in recovery mode. I have a 3gs, firmware 5.0.
Before I tried to restore it, my iPhone would randomly shut off, turn back on, and display a notification that said "Activation Required." Now, sometimes my phone would shut off again and return to it's previous working state. However, this time it did not. I put the phone into recovery mode and tried restoring it on my Acer Aspire 1 with Windows 7. iTunes put the phone through the various stages of restoration; Extracting Software, Preparing iPhone for Restore, Restoring Software, Verifying Restore, Restoring Firmware. After all of this, a nice little error message pops up that reads, "The iPhone 'iPhone' could not be restored. An unknown error has occured (1)."
After this little mishap occured four more times, I decided to click "More Information," and was promptly brought to the help page set up here. I proceeded to troubleshoot by updating to the latest version of iTunes, updating my security, restarting my computer, and so forth until all the necessary precautions were performed. Now it was back to iTunes to try my luck at getting my life back.
To my delight, I found that this time the restoration process took upwards of forty minutes to complete. However, to my despair, a nice little error message popped up that read, "The iPhone 'iPhone' could not be restored. An unknown error has occured (-1)." Ah, a different error message! i thought, feeling as if there was hope in fixing my phone. I clicked "More Information" and skimmed through the specific error messages, looking for that lucky -1. Nothing.
I need help. I have attempted to restore my phone a dozen times since this occurence, and I'm growing tired of going through the same process over and over and getting the same result. I have an iPhone 3GS which I updated with the last firmware (iOS 5) 2 weeks ago. Everything goes ok.
And suddenly, while the phone was recharching. It asked me to activate it but I was unable to do it as it was rebooting constantly every time I connected it to iTunes.
I tried both 2 restore modes (Restore and DFU) but since I can't achieve a restore with the last Apple iOS 5 firmware. I got the error code 1.
I I tried on 3 different computers but same error. I really don't know what to do next...
I already called Apple Customer Care and I'm still waiting for an answer. I let you know.

IPhone 3GS stuck in recovery mode while updating to iOS 6.1

Hello there, I was updating my iPhone 3GS(New Bootrom) from iOS6.0 to iOS 6.1. While it was updating, iTunes suddenly ends up saying error and now my iPhone is stuck in recovery mode loop. I've tried DFU mode on my iPhone and try to kick it out by using TinyUmbrella but the computer doesn't reconize it. And when it was on recovery, iTunes doesn't reconize too, a window pops up and says i have to install 'Apple Mobile Device'. I've re-install and install iTunes a couple of times and nothing is working. Switching on and off the iPhone doesn't work too. Please, someone help me with this problem! I really do not know what to do! Please reply this As Soon As Possible!

Ok. I have spent the last 8 hours researching this problem and have the absolute 110% answer to everyone's problem with this issue.
Error 13 and 14 : Are checksum problems with the firmware image that is in the update package.
The update package is a .ipsw (IPod or IPhone SoftWare). This file is actually just a .zip renamed .ipsw.
The error is caused by a failure to download a crc-free version of the file. Not really sure why there are so many crc problems with the iphone updates, but Apple does not check the integrity of the update package before wiping your current version of IPhone software and that is why all IPhones that start an update with a bad update package end up in recovery mode. These errors are NOT related to the iTunes installation, antivirus software, or firewalls.
Recommendation : use a program like "Object Fix" (Freeware) to verify the integrity of the file prior to commencing with any new updates. You will have to keep trying to download it until you get a error free file. Once you have a CRC error free file this problem will go away. (I thought TCP/IP helped get rid of CRC errors.)
I had another problem and that was...
Error 1603 and 1604 : These are USB driver connectivity problems.
Recommendation : FULLY uninstall and re-install itunes software as stated in the Apple support documentation. Be sure to reboot between each step and these problems should clear themselves up. In addition, firewalls and anti-virus software may cause these errors as well.
Finally, shame on apple for not properly documenting their software so that end users do not have to decrypt their error messages with no true support to solve the issues. These are problems that enough people have had that there should be specific documentation on these problems.
