3GS - Left side of screen suddenly not responsive

Went to type in a message in email and realized I couldn't type in the number "1" or any characters on the left side of the screen. I then went back out to the main home page/icon pages and nothing on the left side of my screen responds.
I purchased the phone through AT&T... can I assume I can walk into an Apple store and get it immediately replaced or is this wishful thinking. Will Apple say, "hey, we didn't sell it to you, ..."
If not, I'm hoping this voids my AT&T contract. They didn't live up to their end by supplying me with functional equipment, why should I live up to my end of the contract?
I have a 2 year old original iPhone that works perfectly still. They must have made the first batch better than this 3 generation.

Well, AT&T does not handle the warranty work of the iPhone, Apple does, so if it needs to be replaced, Apple would be the one to do it. However, they are going to ask if you did the troubleshooting steps and will probably repeat them before they think about replacing your phone. If it is non-functional, they will decide on the replacement.
This would not void your AT&T contract because you can get the phone replaced under warranty.
If after you try the troubleshooting steps in the manual and the phone does not work, then call Apple Care, or if you have a local Apple Store, make an appointment at the Genius Bar and they will check out the phone. Troubleshooting is power off/on the phone, reset by holding down power off/on button and home button together until you see the Apple Logo, then release, ignore the red slider. The last step would be restore, either from a backup or as a new phone. Good luck.

    Mine has this, too, with an area about 2/5 of the way over that is dim after being off for a time. I've found that running the brightness up and down a few times tends to speed up the time it takes for it to adjust to a more averaged brightness. It is a bit strange that it takes so long for only a portion of the screen to warm up, and even then there's always a slight hint at anything lower than max that it isn't quite even (though it is less noticeable if you happen to be just left of center, as is my case.)

    The problem of tracks becoming de-linked between iTunes and the music files in your iTunes music folder happens for different reasons - this seems to come up fairly commonly in this forum.
    The solution can be to locate each song in the iTunes library, as you mentioned - or, but wait, before I get to that...
    trouble finding the original track in your iTunes music folder? maybe look for it under compilations, or if not using the 'group compilations preference' then look in the folder under the songs artist name, but what song artist name iTunes uses depends on what you have in the metedata tag spot for album artist or song artist. Any varyation in artist name spelling, in the menu item 'get info' metadata for any selected individual track will cause iTunes to create that as a separate artist folder in the library, even names like 'various' or any difference at all (even the word 'the' can change where in your iTunes music folder a track gets placed by iTunes). You can try to use the finder function of find file (finder munu item outside of iTunes) to locate hard to find items.
    Back to how to re-link any de-linked tracks .
    There may be scripts that can help re-link de-linked music files - or, at least provide you a list of such files, Scripts are easy to install and use...

    What causes a white line on left side of screen of my iphone 4? It runs from the top to the bottom and is about 1/32" wide.
    Just showed up yesterday. It's like the entire screen image is shifted to the right. Is this a sign of a major problem coming?

    I did all of trouble shooting procedures but it did not work.
    I called Apple Care and explained what kind of problem i had and they booked me up with Genius Bar @ Apple Retail Store.
    I went to them last Saturday and they replace my troubled iPhone with the new.
    they said it is very rare problem reported so far and i could be the first few ones.
    it was no hassle and they all were very kindly listened to me.
    anyway, problem solved with replacement and i was lucky to have back up for iPhone.
    Anyone has same problem, call 800-MY-IPHONE and book yourself to nearest Genius Bar to get your iPhone served or replaced.

    There were some recent ui changes around the downloads manager. What version where you on before? Anyway, you can customize things in Firefox really easily. Take a look at [[Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars|this article on customizing Firefox]] for details. Should be a piece of cake to move the bookmarks button.
    As for the color of the button, you might be in [[Private Browsing - Browse the web without saving information about the sites you visit|Private Browsing]] mode. That changes the color of the button from orange to a purplish color.

    Basic troubleshooting from the  User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order.

    the left side of my scroll wheel has completely stopped working!! all of the buttons on the wheel work fine, but when scrolling only the right side scrolls, its extremely frustrating! I'm planning on buying another ipod sometime in the future, but if I cant get my current one fixed, I'm not going to get another one.     I bought this mac through ebay some time ago now. After a few months of use, i noticed the left side of the screen flickering/twitching. It gradually got worse till the majority the left side of the screen was completely distorted. Now, there's a dead space there, and when i take a print screen, the image comes out fine.

    Sorry for late response, I'm not sure if you have resolve the issue by now. From what you are describing there can be only 2 things wrong : 1 - video card or 2 - the logic board now if you are in my area (orange county, CA)I could help you do the hardware repair so you save some money, otherwise Apple will charge you almost as much as getting another one, for fixing issue like this...
    Or if you are handy with hardware repairs try to get another part and swap it your self.
