3GS not updating iOS

iOS 4.3.3 is the latest and current version of iOS, however iTunes, be it on a Mac or Windows PC, will report iOS 4.2.1 as the latest version, therefore not updating my iOS. Restored numerous times, no luck yet.
Hope there's a solution to this.

Always for some odd reason thought I had the 3GS. Model didn't match though, I've got the Japanese model (MB500J) Guess that means I'm stuck with iOS 4.2.1 for now. Looking forward to the iPhone 5!

Not true... You do not need iOS 6 before iOS 7.
Connect to iTunes on the computer you usually Sync with and “ Check for Updates “...
If an Update Appears Install it...
if not... you are up to date for your particular Device...

IPhone 3GS not updating to iOS 5

I have been trying to update my iPhone from iOS 4.3.5 to iOS 5. I have done the iTunes upgrade that was suggested on my Windows 7 computer. My phone would not restore. I would keep getting an error message 14 and the phone would not restore. Is any one else having this issue?

I went back to iOS 4.3.5. Lucky for me my netbook's iTunes was not updated. I plugged in my phone, did not upgrade the iTunes and it installed iOS 4.3.5. At least I got my phone working again. I tried the upgrade on both my Win7 pc and my Mac and got the same error. I hope that Apple addresses this issue soon. Please let us know you outcome with Apple.

Have you tried connecting to your computer and updating via iTunes?
You may have to do a full restore to upgrade:
Placing your device into recovery (DFU-Device Firmware Upgrade) mode:
Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
   1. Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the
       other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.

You could update your iPad from your iMac if your iMac is running iTunes 11.0 or iTunes 10.7.

You say you are running OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard). I know that version can run iTunes 10.7; I do not know if it supports iTunes 11.0 (current release). Either one of those iTunes will support your iPad upgrade.
You would do the upgrade by using the USB connector to plug your iPad into your computer, having iTunes then recognize your iPad (which would happen automatically if all goes well), and then clicking a "Check for Updates" button on the right side of the iTunes display.

I would like to update my ios from 5.0.1 on 3Gs to 6.1.3. On my iTunes, i checked for update and it took me to pop-up where i clicked on download only and it downloaded the new ios but it is not getting updated when connected to iphone

at times I get a bit of keyboard lag with my iphone4 with ios7 but not too bad but it does run better on my ipad2
if you judge from the posts here then many people feel ios7 made their iphone useless and so slow and defect they will run to the nearests android store and start trowing their money at it
but then people who don't have issues rarely sped alot of time in support forums informing people that they don't have problems
try messing around with a friend or relatives upgraded device and make up your own mind

I have iTunes 10.2.2, my iPhone is currently on IOS 4.3.2 but whenever I try updating to 4.3.3, I get an error message saying that "The iPhone could not be updated. This device is not eligible for the requested build. I have a 3GS, which, according to Apple, IS eligible for the update. What's happening here?

My phone has never been jailedbroked or hacked - just a normally updated phone. However I think the iphone belonging to another member of my family, who aslo connects to my account, was previously jailbroken - could this be the problem? If so, how do I solve this?

After updating my 3GS, (I guess to iOS 6.0.1 or 6.0.2 I'm not sure, so the new iOS, two days ago) the phone continuously keeps restarting until the battery dies. I can't do anything with it because it is just restarting and restarting and restarting and... again and again and again....
Don't even try to tell me to do this or that... press this and that button for a couple of seconds, because the phone is just restarting. The Apple logo appears on the screen and sometimes the small circle as well for a couple second and then the Apple logo again, continuously again and again. I got this itunes message when connecting the phone to the computer: "We're sorry, we are unable to connect with your activation at this time." So again the phone does not respond to anything, just restarting and restarting untill the battery dies.
I went to the Apple store to ask the Apple genius team, but with no luck, unfortunately. He didn't know anything that would help. Now I'm looking for an Apple genius outside the Apple store... So now you geniuses out there try to resolve this problem.
Please help if you're a genius!

Sounds like the battery needs recalibrating but letting the phone die and then charging over night normally helps. Have you tried resetting the phone by holding the power and home button until it turns off and reboots? Try that, letting the phone run down till it turns off a few times and charge it over night. If not you may have to restore your phone via iTunes, make sure you have a current back up, or restore as new if that fails, add all your contacts etc back manually that might remove any corruption you could have. Note you will lose game data etc that way but its normally the best way to sort issues if all else fails.

Is your phone jailbroken? Was it ever jailbroken in the past? These errors are generally associated with jailbroken phones. If it is not and has never been, it may indicate a hardware failure.

Not updating IOS 6 consequences?

Hi,
I am NOT going to update to IOS 6 on my iPhone 4S or iPad because I often utilse the Street View in Maps. The new map is just awful. I don't need turn by turn instructions I have a Tomtom. I don't fly a helicopter (anymore) so the flyby view is of no interest to me.
My question is that my iMac and Macbook Air I are wanting to upgrade to new version of Mountain Lion BUT if I do that will they NOT work properly with my iPhone and iPad running IOS5?

Until recently I was using my iPhone 4S running iOS 5 just fine with the latest version of Mountain Lion, so you've nothing to worry about. Remember, Apple has to support the phones not lucky enough to be compatible with iOS 6.
