3Gs on iOS4.0.1, home screen spacing all messed up

Has anyone seen this? Even before I installed my jailbreak apps, the screen formatting was messed up. There is nearly no spacing between the first row apps names and the app icons on the second row. This goes all the way down, and leaves about an inch of space BELOW the dock bar (and thus it is no longer my DOCK bar) and the bottom of the screen. Also, the spacing between the home screen dots and bottom line of the apps names on line 4 and the dock screen is almost non-existent.

If other apps slow to a crawl and even phone use and keyboard entry gets erratic, double click the home button, tap and hold on one of the icons now revealed in multitasking mode until they jiggle. Then close the apps one by one to free up memory.
This is a kludge caused by the apps not cleaning up after themselves, and I dislike having do it multiple times a day, but without it I would waste even more time bringing the device back to Apple for a permanent fix. One can only hope.
Currently raging mad at Apple iOS4.02 for breaking the iPod playback of the 3GS via AV amp (Pioneer VSX-23TXH in U.S.). Trust totally lost. Never "upgrade" without a way back. Jailbreak suddenly looks desirable.
Just yesterday wife bought an iPad for me, still unopened. Feel like returning it as-is in the box and wait for the German designed WeTab (started as WePad earlier).

First try a hard reset. To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
If still no luck, try downloading another free app from the App Store.

Lastly, try to restore the iPod from a previous backup or restoring it to factory settings.

Help please, my screen is all messed up. the colors are like oppisite of what they usually are. like when i am typing right now the apple website is black and like the desktop picture which is the default picture is orange. Please Someone help me. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!

Is Zoom turned on?
if so, press command + option + 8.
If that does not help, try resetting PRAM.

I opened my laptop today and the bottom of the screen is all messed up and at the side there are like green, red lines...
why is it like this? (BY THE WAY, I USE AN HDMI CABLE TO EXTEND MY DISPLAY ON TO MY TV) Maybe that's why? I just remove the HDMI cable after I'm done -- there is no 'safe remove')

How do I fix iPad2 screen colors all messed up?

Open screen is red and apple is white. All screens have shadowing and wierd.

This happened to me twice so I'm all ready to help :). Start my going to Settings>General>Reset>All settings>confirm then let it reset the with a hammer on the side by the speakers, home button and plugin outlet tap it hard not so hard only hard enough so it won't crack. The colour will change to normal then it will go the same colour if it does hit it again like u did the first time. :) I hope I helped at least someone. It worked for me! Screen is ALL messed up and warped looking!

My Ipod always stays in a nice little case and I haven't even used it for the last two weeks but it's always in my purse.. and the last week or so, my purse has been in the car everyday. The only thing I can think of is that the heat (but it wasn't that hot) has messed it up but the screen is just weird and I can only see the bottom left corner and it is playing, but no sound is coming out. Do we really have a one year warrenty on this? I didn't pay extra for that. I got it in December.

Yes... the heat in a parked car in Louisiana in August can definately ruin an iPod (or almost any electronic device).
You have a warranty, but unfortunately this is certain to be considered by Apple to be abuse and thus not covered. Sorry. There are third-party iPod repair services available. Google 'ipod repair' and see what comes up. I see ipodresq recommended a lot on these forums.

HELP!!! my home folder is all messed up

i inadvertantly renamed or changed the home folder. how do i fix it so that i get my settings back? currently, when i am logged in, the computer doesn't act like i've ever been here before. all of the keychains and prior history are not accessed, as though they don't exist.
for example, the desktop looks nothing like before, the application tray doesn't look like it was, and mail won't access our settings or mailboxes.

i think i must have screwed something up pretty significantly. for instance, i moved the Mail folders from one library to another, but Mail doesn't know that they are there. so something still isn't right (or how you expected it to be).
Also, i can't even modify or place things on the desktop. it's as though the person that had the computer set correctly (a couple hours ago) is gone and i can't figure out how to tell the computer to go back to that configuration.
it seems like the best option might be to start fresh.
how can i make sure i don't torpedo my mail files. everything else is pretty easy to find (movies, music, photos, documents). where are the e-mail files so that i can make sure i move them before doing a system reinstall?

How can I show my appointments directly on my home screen without changing the layout to "today" and keeping it at "zen"?

I would really like to keep my home screen with all of my applications lined up at the bottom but I would also like my current appointments (my appointments for the day from my calendar) to shop up as well. Is there a way this can happen?
If the only option is switching themes from "zen" to "today" is there a way I can choose what is listed on the "today" one, for example instead of call log have bbm.
Ideally, I would like to keep the home screen the way it is now with the calendar addition.

Which OS? Go to Options > About, it looks like v5.0.0.681
Are you using the calender that came pre-loaded?
With the basic theme, you get the 6 choices only at the bottom of the screen. It sounds to me as if you you need some sort of calender them that would permit more icons. Have a look on App World

Hi, I'm having trouble with my Ipad 2. I was recently playing a game and my ipad just shut off on me. Then when I turned it back on it was stuck on the Apple Logo and it won't go to the home screen at all. I plugged it in my itunes but I don't know what to do from there. I left it charged hoping the apple logo would dissappear but it didn't and now for some reason the battery is always dead. I really need help. Does anybody have any suggestions? Please.

Did you try rebooting the iPad? You will need to have some battery power for this.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

7.1 Multitouch home screen gesture slower.

Ever since updating to 7.1 on my iPad, I've noticed that the five finger gesture to get to the home screen, is significantly slower because the icons animation now happens AFTER the closing app animation resulting in a twice as long app closing process. This seems like it is most likely an unintentional bug.
I use the multitouch home screen gesture ALL the time because it is generally faster, but now the home screen button is faster.

I have exactly the same problem, i have tryed restart, reset, restore... Nothing helps.. Some times when i type a message the erase button dosen't work and it selects all and wants to insert something insted...
It sometimes helps to lock the phone and unlock it again or swipe my finger over all the letters.. But not always..

ATV 5.0 Home Screen

This is a re=post of an earlier post that was removed by the moderators.
I did the update and all appears fine. While its nice that they provided 5.0 for ATV2's I do hope they provide a way to organize the home screen. Now with the menu nesting gone for the former "Internet" menu, it really provides for a messy and arduous user experience on an ATV2 due to the 720 resolution as everything will not fit even on a 50" screen, so I have to scroll significantly to see some of the channels I use. I understand the "channel" idea that's coming but at this stage the home screen has *all* of the default channels displayed. There are some I will never want/need that i have to surf by to get to my preferred channels.
The moderators removed my earlier post and advised me that they had done it because I had not asked a question, so I will now ask the question that I was hoping my earlier post would address. Does anyone know if there is a way to clean up and organize the 6.0 Home Screen in 5.0? Am I missing something?

Annoying reappearing "blank Bookmarks" on home screens

Hello fellow Mac-ers,
So I have a very annoying problem. It seems that every time I sync my iPhone 3G, my home screens are littered with these strange bookmarks. They are not visible until you are in the application delete mode. And then my home screens shows all the "x's" that mark these bookmarks. They add themselves, adding 2 or 3 pages of them at the end of my home screens.
What are these, and how do I get rid of them? It's annoying to have to delete 50 or so of these every time I sync.
Also, when you do tap them accidentally, like while flipping through home screens, it opens Safari to a blank web page that says "about:blank"

9800 home screen went really dark and cannot change it back to bright screen

it seems I have pressed something when my phone was in my pocket that caused my home screen with all my icons to go to a very dark screen
the screen goes bright if I touch the "search" icon on the top right, but then I cannot access the apps
if I touch the search function again the bright screen disappears and I have access to all the features on the phone
I have tried "reset" in the options menu; I have tried adjusting the "backlight" function to no avail
I used to be able to touch the notification bar across the top to access all emails and facebook but now it is hidden behind the search function bar

Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
