3GS problems

3GS has been having the following problems. When not synced "updates library" and then wipes all Itunes content from the phone, usually as soon as I try to play music or videos. Loses wifi network password minutes after it is entered. This has occured multiple times. Anyone had these problems or do I just have a buggy Phone

Have you tried the basics from the manual?
Restart. Reset. Restore.

IPhone 3GS Problem/Touch Controls no longer respond after random intervals

Hi all,
I need some answers regarding my iPhone 3GS 32gig, which was working perfectly until about a month ago, after I upgraded to firmware v3.1.
The touch screen 'locks up' i.e. it won't accept any input via the screen and seems to happen at random intervals, but the app continues to run. If I leave it long enough, it'll accept input again after a minute or two, otherwise, I hit the sleep button and then the home button to wake it, and it obeys my commands again. But only until the next time. It can occur using ANY app but really ***** when I'm de-stressing with a good game of Space Invaders Infinity Gene.
I've tried all sorts of things to correct the issue based on what I've read on the web, foremost, restoring the iPhone from a backup. That didn't help. I had about 500meg of free space left and thought maybe it needs more than that to function perfectly, so I deleted a lot of games and apps (mostly lite versions) and freed up enough space so that 1 gig was left available. Still no help. Tried restoring again, still no change.
When the 3.1.2 update came out, I hoped it would fix it. Alas, no.
Push notifications are turned off for my Mobile Me account, and for all the other apps that allow push notifications. I'm with Optus, not that that would make a difference (?).
Given that apps run one at-a-time, I can't believe any single app could be causing this behaviour, and I don't like the idea of trying to find out what that app might be if it is by copying them individually back to the iPhone just to see when the problem comes back again.
Oh yeah, and I've not jail broken my iPhone. Seriously.
Can anyone make any other suggestions? I imagine resetting all settings from the Settings screen will delete my progress on Space Invaders Infinity Gene, so I'd rather not if I can help it.

Not that it helps, but a me too here.
It randomly seems to stop responding for a while.
I often find I cant skip tracks in the music player etc.
This is a brand new stock phone, upgraded to 3.1.
Sleeping and turning on again seems to fix it, or waiting for ages

I am almost about to give up hope with this. I have posted FOUR questions with no answers, so someone please answer this one.
My iPhone 3GS has never been jailbroken. A couple of months ago now, the bottom half of my iPhone screen became unresponsive so I thought I would try to restore it to see if it would make it alright again. Worst mistake of my life. It is now stuck in recovery mode and will not come out, for anything. I have had various different error messages, i've tried everything. All the software programs, holding home and power and whatever else. Nothing. When trying to restore it, it will come to the last part of the bar and fail. Every single time. I really could do with some help on this one. Please.

Take a look at this link, http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414 It's look like your iPhone needs to be repaired, the digitizer is damaged and it could be causing the problem of not letting your iPhone completely restore. Take your iPhone to your nearest Apple store.

Restored Apps from Iphone 4 to 3gs, problem.

I had a Verizon iphone 4 with ios 4.2.6. I lost it, so I went and got my old AT&T 3gs phone with ios 4.2.1 and did a "restore from backup" and used my Verizon Iphone 4 backup. Everything works great..(other than I dont have cellular service) but.... all the icons of the apps I had installed on my iphone 4 are blank. The native iphone apps icons show up fine, but every single app I downloaded from the appstore (about 100 of them) are blank white icons. The programs all run fine, but this blank icon thing is driving me nutty. Any help out there?

Errr... I wanted to keep 4.2.1 on this one. Trying out something new for once. Any other suggestions? I was thinking it was due to the retina display on the iphone 4 and the icons were the retina versions? Just not sure how to switch them back to the regular icon resolutions for the 3gs.
I'm surprised it even let you use a 4.2.6 backup on a 4.2.1 phone. If it is just a retina icon problem, try deleting an app the get it again from the app store (you won't be charged again if you are using the same iTunes account).

I solve the problem you just need to go to Settings -> General -> Date & Time then turn (set Automatically) off then go back to Settings -> Wallpaper then change the wallpaper to the first one on the top then turn the iphone off wait 2 mint then turn it one on

brendan002 do you have Iphone 3Gs did u upgrade to iOS 4 after the upgrade did u face any problems if your answer is No to all that mean it is not your problem if your answer was yes that mean you still dont anderstand the case.

IPhone 3gS problem

Hey guys,
I've got a problem with an iPhone 3gS, the volume bar in the 'iPod app' doesn't respond properly, The bar moves but the volume doesn't change. Tried resetting and that didn't work. The only thing that worked for a short time was turning it off or syncing it. I then sent it in for repair and got a replacement but a couple of days later the problems came back and it's now alot worse.
Does anyone have a clue on how to solve this?

How are you listening? Via headphones, then internal speaker, or a dock? If it's a dock, in some cases output is controlled only by the dock system, not the iPhone itself.

Take it to an Apple Store and have it checked out. You could have a hardware issue there if the SIM is not being recognized.

IPhone 3GS: problem with address book changes after 5.0.1 upgrade

Hello World,
I upgrade my and my Wife iPhones 3GS to 5.0.1,
my Wife's one has a big problem:
- in the address book/contact menu disappears + sign (upper right) in order to add or modify contact
I tried to search in some forums, but I didn't find any solution.
I already tried to:
- soft reset
- hard reset
- restore backup
but no way to solve this problem.
I hope in someone help ...

My parents are also having that same problem on their mac mini after updating to 10.5.4. Their Mail app is also giving the same error. I'll post back if I find an answer... and if anyone else knows how to resolve this problem, please let us know.

Updating a iPhone 3GS - problems

I have bought an old iPhone 3GS for my daughter and it had no wifi showing. I was advised to do a software update via iTunes however it is now stuck on the iTunes connect / connected page. If i connect to iTunes it scans and then an error message appears on the itunes page saying "sorry we cant continue with your connection at this time"
If i switch the phone off and back on i am still stuck in the itunes set up - can anyone advise me? Before at least it was a working phone with internet connection now it won't do anything!! Thanks

IOS 5.1 3Gs Problems

Since I updated to 5.1 on my iPhone 3Gs, I keep getting problems with the updated OS. I can't download apps, music or books from the iTunes store, it's very hit and miss. It is pointless having a pin upon wake up of the phone as all you have to do to get past the pin is by swiping the camera button up to by-pass it. The battery life has dramatically dropped from lasting a couple of days with everyday use to around 9 hours. The signal from the network has dropped from 3 bars on 3G to 4 bars on GPRS, and finally apps keep crashing and exit themselves to the home screen.
I have rang my network (O2UK) and they have said that they have had serveral reports of Apple products having these bugs since the release of 5.1, and saying that nothing has changed in terms of te settings and masts near me, but they advised me to check my network settings and if they are different from what O2's website said (they were the same).
So why are there so many bugs with 5.1? I can't download any apps at all and my battery is worse? Is there any advice that anyone can give me to fix these small bugs or a temp fix until Apple fix them in a future update :)

Now be nice.... Many people have issues after an update... I wouldn't think there would be much of a change for apps between iOS 5.x versions. If native iOS apps keep crashing, then maybe you have an issue. Folks having issues might want to try a full DFU mode restore directly to 5.1 with iTunes... If still having issues, make sure you backup everything OUTSIDE of iTunes backup. I have contacts calendar and notes synced with my Outlook. Pics and vids are dragged off phone to pc and re-synced back, and music and apps are in iTunes. So I could lose this phone and still have everything... Anyway, DFU restore and setup as a new phone and NOT from backup. Of course this mostly applies to folks using a PC/MAC. If you stricktly use iCloud back up, this may not apply. I don't know. I don't use iCloud at all. Anyway, I know local backups CAN get corrupted and cause issues when you restore from them. I never restore from a backup. I always setup as a new phone. I've been on 5.x several times and have had no issues, except the fact that it zaps battery too fast for my taste, and it uses too much RAM and storage. But of course, with all the new features=more space needed... Other than that it seems to run well on 3GS. I'm still waiting for Apple to fix the issue of iTunes 10.5+ and iOS5.x not puting my pics back on the phone in the right order....when they fix that I might go back up....4.2.1 is best on 3GS!! Long Live 4.2.1! lol

3GS Problems Sorted

I updated to IOS4 on my 3gs from a backup and it was as buggy as **** and the battery was running down very quick. A week later i did a full restore and that seemed to fix a few problems. Then sunday morning the battery ran out and the phone asked to be connected to iTunes and did a full restore and then crashed again. I booked a place at my local Apple store and went down. They checked the phone but couldnt really help because there was no stats opn the phone. I explaned the crashing and they swapped me for a new one. They installed IOS4 for me there on a mac. By the time i was back to the car i had synced with my mobile me account and was up and running. Since then no more problems. Plugged into iTunes put my apps back on and away i went. Battery is good as it used to be. Could Upgrading on a mac helped? anway a happy ending!!

Nope - swapping the phone for a new one is likely what solved your problem. I've seen several other reports on the same. My experiences with crash / power off / reboot have happened even though I've done all restore and formats using a Mac - not only my own but also at the Apple Store genius bar.

Is Apple Aware of 3Gs Problems?

How long till Apple acknowledges the problems and fixes them with a quick firware update(GPS Map, Battery, Sound,...etc).

My problem is the GPS Map. It dose not scroll from top to bottom of the iPhone continuosly when you double tap the locatoint button on the lower left of the screen. I can spin my phone around and the map spins and spins but when set up right again the map wont follow from scrolling from the top to the bottom.
Double tapping that button is supposed to make the maps rotate with compass input, I think, and so the map spins and spins. I don't understand the "scrolling from top to bottom" description; to scroll I drag the map with my finger.

3GS problems with new v4 system! Internet

I have an Apple IPhone 3GS and since uploading the new v4 software thru itunes I have had endless problems. When I am in a 3G network area my Internet and Mail does not work?? When I am out of a 3G network area it works but is obviously very slow. What the?? This is outrageous. ( I have even tried restoring factory settings to a new iPhone.
It's been a week now and I have tried nearly everything with no success. This is very frustrating and affecting my business so any assistance is appreciated.

Try Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings.

Major 3GS problems...

My wife and I both purchased a new 3GS roughly 2 1/2 months ago. Yesterday, mine decided to shut itself off. I tried turning it back on; I tried doing the reboot thing. Nothing. I was able to take it an Apple Store today, where they decided it was irreparable and just gave me a new one. The associate informed me that I could sync it to iTunes and restore it to the last time I synced. So, I tried that today and in the middle of the sync the NEW iPhone just shut itself off again. Now, when I try to turn it on the Apple symbol shows up, then it shuts off again. Guess I'm going back to the store tomorrow... is anyone else having this many problems? I LOVE the phone, but I also HAVE to have a phone that will work when I need it. I use this phone a lot with my job, and I cannot afford to have a phone that doesn't work consistently.

Maybe what you are syncing is corrupt. Have you tried setting it up as a new iphone rather than syncing the old files?
